Vestibül

"With a penchant for seasonal and regional produce, this restaurant serves flavoursome culinary delights such as freshwater fish dishes or classics like Wiener schnitzel. The imposing historical building, which also houses the famous Burgtheater, makes for a unique location with a stylish interior that has a typically Viennese feel with its striking columns and gorgeous stuccowork." - Michelin Inspector

"Don’t let the umlaut throw you off. Vestibül restaurant occupies an original vestibule in the Burgtheater, known for having one of Vienna’s most gorgeous interiors. And the space is not just any vestibule, but includes both the porte cochere for the Hapsburg coaches that would arrive at this famous imperial theater and the marble-lined hallway leading to the guests' private loges. Located across from City Hall on the Ringstrasse, Vestibül is under the guidance of one of Austria’s most celebrated chefs, Christian Domschitz. His menu is not flashy, but rather rests on superb takes on traditional dishes, such as his signature Hummerkrautfleisch —creamy cabbage with lobster."

This place is excellent! I love the atmosphere here, it's very quiet and the decor is lovely. However, I wish they played some soft classical music in the background. Though some plates disagreed with my palette, I could still tell they were masterfully crafted and put together with care. The service is what you would expect at a Michelin guide restaurant. If you want to try a unique take on traditional Viennese food this is the place!

The decor is very nice and the staff is very friendly. No complaining on that end. I do feel that, while it is good, the food was overpriced. We paid about 100 euros per person just for the 5 course meal. The portions were quite small because I think they are the same as the 7 and 9 course meals. It is not a bad restaurant I just think you can get better value for money.

Nice place to have dinner as it is in the same historical building of the Burgtheater which is situated in front of the Rathaus - architecture and history overload. Warm welcome by the owners, pretty interior with white cloth tables. Menu is rather small but enough choice to choose from some Viennese classics and a la carte dishes. All dishes that we had were good especially the chestnut soup with truffle foam. Service was rather slow as the waiter had his first day as he mentioned , so we were understanding of this as he seemed overwhelmed in general. It is pricey but we were aware of that so no surprise there. All in all , was a pleasant dinner.

We made a last minute reservation on a busy Saturday night and were welcomed with warmth and care. The entire front of the house team gives excellent service. Food was delicious: from the amuse-bouche to the desserts. Try their Lobster specialty. Dining hall design is exactly what you would expect from a restaurant set in a Historical building. We also enjoyed the diverse crowd in terms of age range: families with young children, groups of young adults, couples.

Beautiful restaurant with an impressive interior and top-notch service – the staff were kind, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere is elegant and really sets the stage for a great evening. Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet expectations. Several dishes were too salty, and the fish was dry and lacked any sauce. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the cheese plate, though it was served quite plainly. Overall, a lovely setting and excellent service, but the kitchen needs improvement. A bit of a mixed experience.

The food was absolutely amazing—especially the lobster, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. However, the experience was ruined by the extremely rude waiter. He threw the knife on the table while serving and acted very unprofessional throughout the meal. To make it worse, at the end of the meal, he directly asked for a tip and got upset when I didn’t leave one, even questioning if I liked the service. Unfortunately, despite the great food, the poor service made this a disappointing experience overall.

Google
Unforgettable experience. Had our anniversary dinner here, 6 course tasting menu, and left with a smile (and strangely for this kind of experience, sated as well). The service was incredibly professional and gentle, they took seriously the request I made in the reservation form online. Location is stunning and food is tasty. You will not regret a dinner here.

Google
Very nice and elegant. Didn’t think I’d find a nice restaurant for my wife and I that didn’t have people in t-shirts and shorts looking like they just got off the plane or out of bed. Everything was great and you can’t beat the atmosphere. The servers speak perfect English as well which to me as an American is very helpful. I’m also a picky eater and even I found myself being exploratory. Would recommend to anyone that wants a nice dinner with substantial portions

Yelp
Elegant ambiance and decor. Good service. Food is well prepared but not as memorable. The lobster cabbage definitely stand out. We tried it as an appetizer.

Yelp
On my recent visit to Vienna during Thanksgiving week I stopped in at Vestibul as we were walking past on our way to another restaurant. Without a reservation for a Michelin rated restaurant they were so accommodating. Or, maybe lady luck was on our side. It was 6:15 and they said they can give me a table but it was reserved for 8:15. 2 hrs was plenty for us and glad we did. From the coat check, friendly and professional waitstaff, gorgeous ambience and the food it was an evening of delight. i highly recommend if you are in Vienna. they are across from a tram station for ease of travel.

Yelp
Vestibül is conveniently located next to Rathausplatz. With the interior reflecting imperial decor and the food a mix of modern European cuisine, there's something for everyone to enjoy. We particularly liked the lightly fried char and the seasonal chestnut soup.

Yelp
The setting is impressive, marble columns and decorations expected for the 250 year old National Theater of Austria building. But I feel the restaurant tried, but the food and service couldn't match the decor. The servers were polite and mostly attentive, which was concerning, as there were less than 25% occupancy. I added a small plate of the signature dish, lobster with creamy cabbage, to my prixe-fixe menu. The menu claims this dish has given the chef accolades for two decades, but with almost overcooked claw meat, I could not discern everyone else's facination. The veal cheeks with sunflower seed dumpling was not bad, nor was the Germknödel dessert. But the tiny Viennese catfish fillet was overpowered by the paprika and chilli. The chef was present, and spoke to guests at a couple of other tables, but never made it to mine. Maybe next time I'll get to speak with the chef. 2022 09 15. M0.

Yelp
Everything was absolutely phenomenal the staff, the food, and most importantly the ambience. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and complemented the food pristinely. Definitely would recommend coming back here, as for the main man, Christian Domschitz. Was more than accommodating to every single one of our needs. In addition to the staff specifically Geosappa and Anastasiia were extremely professional, proactive, and accommodating. There was even a moment, when we were trying to make a reservation that he put us under Christine because had trouble hearing what we were saying. All because of how packed the place was (as it should be). Upon arrival he was more than joyous to see us, and have a little laugh with us as we made banter. Again, this place is a must if you ever come to Vienna and would recommend it for anyone anywhere at any time. They are very relaxed with the dress code, and do not judge a book by the cover. I highly recommend the Campari orange, and the salmon. We also ordered the Beef bourguignon and the Wiener schnitzel In addition of that finishing off your meal with a nice glass of port is also a beauty. Cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
The lobster cabbage is a must try The exec chef came out and chatted with everyone and he showed me his Cookbook. For same day reservation best to call instead of online. It's part of a bank building turned theatre - beautiful building.

Yelp
Alright, so, shocked more than I think I've ever been on this fine platform to see this place has 4 stars -- I'd expect 5, and I'm giving it 5. I'm from NYC, but forget about me. I came with my brother and my mother, who are total food snobs. Very picky, very well traveled, and my brother's best friend happens to be a Michelin sous chef so he's eating fancy all the time. We ate at all the top spots in Vienna this week; and this was our favorite, hands-down and by far. The atmosphere is great. The service is attentive and all you could want. Every course was great. The bread (and butter!) and the pickles we got to start were enough to send me home happy. But we also got the signature dish (with the lobster), the goulash, the chicken entree, the gnocchi -- we'd recommend all, and we would come again tomorrow night and get it all the same all over again if we were not leaving. But do not miss the date cake. We asked the waiter what he would recommend, he suggested this, we agreed but kind of felt regretful about it when he left. Date cake? DATES?! Like, I guess? It arrived and we devoured it. It was the best dessert I've had in this city; and all we have done for a week is eat everything we can!! Come here. Eat well. The prices are shockingly reasonable for this high level of food and ambiance and quality. We are grateful we had this experience and have already recommended to friends and family as our best meal of the trip. Enjoy!

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant! It's located in a really neat setting and you have to option to dine inside or outside. We dined outside and it was beautiful. The chef came and introduced himself to our table, and from what I could see he did so with every table. It added a nice personal touch to the restaurant. The food was simply amazing. My family members all ordered different dishes so we tasted a fair variety of the menu and every dish had us very impressed (quail, trout, escargot, lamb patties)! We ordered the lobster with cabbage as a starter and it was so tasty. They also had great desserts to finish off a wonderful meal. The portion sizes were not too large; I'd say they were the perfect size! Overall this restaurant really impressed us and it was by far my family's favorite meal that we've enjoyed in Vienna!

Yelp
We went here for NYE dinner and I have to say the dinner tasted better than what was described in the menu. A bit pricey but the quality of the food and the flavors were fantastic. Would go back anytime and loved every bit of it. Only advice to the staff is that if you want to be a Michelin starred restaurant you need to be more consistent :-)

Yelp
Unfortunately most reviews of this restaurant are old. We ate an amazing meal here tonight. This was recommended by our hotel concierge over the various very highly priced tourist favorites. Most tables were locals, always a good sign. We ordered the full chef's tasting menu and were impressed by the food, quality of service, perfect Austrian wine pairings and value. The tasting menu includes all their signature dishes. The outdoor setting on a warm June night was magnificent. Highly recommend.

Yelp
It was my mom's first visit to Europe and I brought her here based on reviews I saw online. The hostess who greeted us was kind. We got to our seat which was in a part of the restaurant where it was a bit compact so I asked if we could be seated somewhere else. The waiter took us to another seat and gave us the menu. The chef came around and I asked if I could have my mother take a picture with him. He said we had to purchase the "chef's menu" and he was then take a photo with her. I thought that was a big wierd given the reviews. I've been to really nice restaurants that that's never been a precondition for asking for a photo. Second and what really angered me was the way the waiter (local) treated me and my mother. I asked him about recommendations on the menu. His response was to squint at me and say that everything was listed there. Unperturbed because my mother was there, I kindly asked again what he thought about a certain dish. Again he seemed annoyed and said that everthing was written there. The final straw was when my mother dropped her knife and asked, in her broken English, for a replacement. He may not have understood her but his reaction - moving his face back and forth in a nasty grin and looking at me for interpretation- really rubbed me the wrong way. I still left a nice tip but I wrote a note to the waiter to treat his customers better. I rarely leave reviews but this review was necessary. Food was good but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
My main memory from this meal will be not the food, but the building - the interior of the restaurant is as gorgeous as the opulent exterior of the Burgtheater. The view from the front of the building across the park to city hall is also magnificent. The food was delicious, although it comes at a fairly steep price (expected). We ate from a prix fixe menu. Both starter courses (the beetroot-cumin soup and the steak tartar) were exceptional, and were probably our favorite parts of the meal. The carp main course was very delicately flavored - delicious, but perhaps not the most memorable. The wait staff was fairly accommodating of our initial confusion regarding the menu.

Dieter E. Z.

Yelp
The restaurant is located in a beautiful surrounding of the Burgtheater; unfortunately the decorations with ostridge feathers and eggs do not complement the otherwise astonishing neo-renaissance interior. The menu is sofisticated, and quite balanced; everyone can find a suitable menu for himself. The quality of dishes is high, however, some of them are a bit "over-done" - meaning that there are just too many ingredients on the plate, which somehow "blurr" the original tastes and the original ingredients. The service however is not up to the quality of the restaurant; they are slow, not too pleasant, and a bit clumsy. I would recommend to the chef to take more focus to improving the service level. The restaurant with this quality of food and this price level requires also impecable service. One final remark: if the chef personally visits the guests (which is very agreeable), he should do it (at least quickly) with all the tables, and not only with a few selected tables; otherwise some guests might get the feeling that they fall into the category of the "second-class" guests!

Yelp
I don't remember ever being greeted by the chef at the door, but that's exactly what happened at Vestibul. Christian Domschitz is obviously very proud of his establishment and for good reason. The atmosphere is formal in terms of the building, but extremely welcoming and warm in terms of the personnel. But as architecturally interesting as the dining room is, the food is the real star of the show--and frankly, I'm not sure how Michelin has failed to award Vestibul at least one star (and it probably deserves two). I don't remember for sure what my wife had for a starter, but I know for sure that I got the chestnut soup. If you go, do yourself a favor and get the chestnut soup. It was amazing. And I doubled down on the creaminess with my entree: I got Chef Domschitz' famous lobster and cabbage dish. This pairing sounded odd, but it worked wonderfully. This was one of the best signature dishes I have had at a restaurant in a longtime. It ranks right up there with Guy Savoy's artichoke soup or Joel Robuchon's potatoes. It was that good. We closed the meal with a cheese plate. I was a little disappointed that the cheeses were not local (although they were purchased from the Nachtmarkt) but they were amazing nevertheless. And at this point in our meal, Chef Domschitz came over to our table. Unlike other chef visits we have experienced, Chef Domschitz was genuinely approachable. He is clearly passionate about what he does. I was so impressed with him and his food that I bought his cookbook--and we ordered a dessert. We got a small gingerbread house. The dessert was as good as the rest of the meal. if I had more room, I would have eaten more. And if I'm ever in Vienna again, you can be sure that I will revisit my lovely experience at Vestibul.
