Best Restaurants in Houston’s Memorial Area | Eater Houston

"Austin’s famed Detroit-style pizzeria, Via 313, has found a home in Memorial, delighting locals with its signature cheesy, crispy crusts and rectangular pies. Each pizza is baked in a heavy steel pan, creating a golden crunch, while a chunky marinara sauce is ladled on in thick streaks just before serving. Favorites at the family-friendly restaurant include the Detroiter, topped with pepperoni and two kinds of cheese, and the Carnivore, loaded with meats like sausage, ham, and bacon." - Marcy de Luna

Austin’s Beloved Pizza Spot Via 313 and Miami Burger Joint Pincho Are Headed to Houston | Eater Houston

"Launched by two brothers out of a trailer in Austin in 2011, Via 313 has developed a cult following for its deep-dish Detroit-style pizza, noted for cheesy edges, a crispy, rectangular crust, and chunky tomato sauce, and has earned 'best pizza' titles and fans such as Elijah Wood. I also report that the restaurant has faced recent scrutiny after alleged attempts to stop employees from unionizing: employees filed two unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board, and Restaurant Workers United alleges the company retaliated against organizers, withheld pre-planned raises and promotions, and disciplined a union leader for asking about the withheld raises." - Brittany Britto Garley

First visit tonight for me and my son, and we walked out smiling. Mazie took good care of us — calm, attentive, and on point. The gluten-free crust here is the best we’ve had anywhere, and the whole meal felt slow, solid, and worth savoring. We wrapped up the night going over Algebra 2 and Delta Math. Helping him grow is one of the best parts of my work with MBAcademy® — and evenings like this make it feel less like tutoring and more like time well spent. We’ll be back.

Seems Detroit Style Pizza is not for me. Expected a lot more from this restaurant as it has great reviews. Service was good. Atmosphere was relaxed but for me the pizza was horrible . That style of crispy oily base and not so great toppings on the bar style pizza just doesn’t shout pizza to me. I received a free portion of cinnamon fingers which were nice but similar style crusty dough. I must say the Caesar Salad for starter was nice. Overall Thanks but no thanks 👍

When the Houston deep dish pizza institution Barry’s closed in 2020 after 37 years, we’ve longed for a great Detroit style pizzeria. After seeing Via 313 featured in the Houston Chronicle “Best Pizza” feature, we were excited to see if this might be the place. 313 did not disappoint! Our favorite is adding black olives, mushrooms, and artichokes to the pepperoni Detroiter. The pie’s crust perfects the signature Detroit style of crisp cheesy edges. Now if they can come up with a creamy bacon salad dressing like Barry’s had, I’d be in absolute heaven!

Our server was great, we may have enjoyed the atmosphere a bit if there was more guest interaction however we completely understand that some days it is not possible. I eagerly awaited our pizza to be cooked as it enhanced our experience. The pepperoni and crust were perfectly crisp, while the bell pepper sustained a fresh taste and the sausage had a subtle spicy kick elevating the flavor of each bite! My husband was delighted to find Faygo bringing back childhood memories from Michigan. Definitely will visit again as all the pizza varieties were intriguing

My son took me here 4 Mother's Day, I wanted a gluten-free pizza! We waited over an hour 4 our pizzas! The Brussel sprouts took 40 minutes! My pizza was ALL BREAD! They charged for every item! And there was hardly anything on it? My son got the Carnivore, and it had some toppings! At the end it was almost $60 for our meal!? Totally Not worth it! I do not recommend this place! 😤😠

Via 313 is a nice spot with a decent menu, but our service was slow. It took about 8 minutes before anyone came by to greet us and take our drink order. Meanwhile, other tables who were seated after us had been tended to first. When our server arrived, she apologized for the delay, noting they were backed up. Drinks arrived roughly five minutes later, and the food took quite a while to come out as well. As for the food, the Detroit-style pizza and breadsticks were both tasty, and the meatballs were a highlight. The Caesar salad, however, was dry. The Faygo root beer was yummy. Overall, it was an okay experience—good food, but the service delays made it less enjoyable. Not sure if this is typical or just an off night.

Google
I got the veggie pizza, and it was SO good! Perfect amount of sauce, veggies, and crunchiness! I have no idea why there weren’t many people here, but I would come again!

Yelp
I had passed by this restaurant several times but never stopped in. I decided to try it yesterday and I'm glad I did. It was sooooooo good. I love the ambience and the story behind the business of the two brothers from Detroit. The manager explained that they have great happy hour specials too! I had the deep dish pizza with prosciutto and balsamic and a pepperoni (they allow you to select 2 different pizzas 1/2 and 1/2), while my guest tried the supreme thin crust pizza both were delicious. The music was a little loud in a little too hard rock for me, but overall, I had loved it. They do have tables out front that you can sit at so you don't have to hear the music.

Yelp
It's sad that this place is getting a two star review compared to what it was when it first opened. We waited at the front with no one around for about 8-10 minutes which in itself was odd. When someone finally came and sat us down, we were told our server would be with us soon. As we sat there, and waited another 10 minutes to get our drinks It was the same gentleman that sat us. The drinks then finally came out after 7 minutes of waiting. We noticed quickly that he was only one of 2 people on staff working. The other employee was working the bar. Frustrated and concerned about the service, while still determined we decided to put in an order of the cheese bread and small Detroiter at the same time. The cheese bread had taken 10 minutes, and the pizza had taken 15 minutes both of which came out separately. Although the ambiance was nice and the server was polite, i feel as if my money would be spent better elsewhere. Hopefully this place will change for the better!

Yelp
The staff workers really are the nicest people. Walk you to your table and waiters are in great spirits and know the menu. Bartender did amazing on Pumpkin Spice Martini, what a treat that was. Highly recommended to try! Detroit-Style pizza was great crust with a soft crunch not burnt and the flavors just flow in your mouth with out an overpowering sauce. If you love pizza I highly recommend! So many options to try and cinnamon sticks were truly icing on cake!

Yelp
Via 313 is Austin based and it feels like it from the inside. The environment is bright and inviting and the restaurant itself is quite spacious. I ordered the roasted artichoke, bob brazil and the monthly special the vodka pizza. My favorite was the vodka pizza. It was crispy and fluffy and the flavor was on point. Not too sweet or tangy it was just right. My least favorites were the roasted artichoke. The dip tastes like it needs more seasoning because the marinara/tomato part tasted like it came right out of the can. Would definitely come back here and try other pizzas. The service was quick and the serve I had was very accommodating.

Yelp
Of the Detroit style pizzas in Houston, this is one of my favorites. It looks heavy, but is actually light on its feet like a great offensive lineman... that's when you know you have a good Detroit style pizza. I can eat this and be happy knowing I won't be comatose napping in an hour. The bread is buttery and light, the cheese is nicely crispy at the corners, and the sauce has a nice tang. My only complaint would be that I placed the order online for pickup at a certain time, and when I arrived it wasn't ready for another 10-15 because they seemed to be a little in the weeds with the dinner crowd. Thankfully, I wasn't in a hurry, and I happily ate my pizza when it was ready. Recommended!

Yelp
Love this place! If you're a pizza lover I recommend coming here. I hope they open more locations in Houston. Pizza is always great & it's a chill ambiance. They have rotating specials.

Yelp
Customer service was great! Gave us cinnamon dessert rolls on the house. Detroit style pizza, can combine 2 flavors and extra toppings if you want. Very customizable, and they have appetizers, delicious dessert, and drinks if you prefer other food items. Overall, would recommend if you feeling a different style pizza.

Yelp
Love this place, nice, clean quiet atmosphere, the Detroit style pizza Detroiter was delicious and the Caesar salad was delicious as well, will be coming back for sure

Yelp
This pizza was extremely delicious! Service was great and prompt and I will 100% be coming back. I didn't have the Detroit style this time but I'm excited to try.

Yelp
Tried this pizza place and it was amazing! The Detroit-style pizza was perfectly baked with that crispy, cheesy edge and soft inside--so good. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're looking for great Detroit-style pizza!

Yelp
Music is loud and like heavy metal. Not the genre to dine to. Terrible service slow not very knowledgeable soggy bottom of the and very pizza long wait time over 40 mins

Yelp
This is our go to pizza for pizza delivery. They have a fig and prosciutto that's amazing. But you can't go wrong with the classic either. The crust has a crunchy outer texture but nice and fluffy inside.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, crispy and thin. We ordered the cheese and the pepperoni pizza, and the cinnamon sticks. All were so good. Reminds me pizza I've had on the E Coast.

Yelp
We are SO happy to have our Detroit style pizza! We have missed that part of home so much! The crust...the sauce SO GOOD! Excellent customer service and so clean! The literal only thing we wish was different? We wish they would put Detroit history on their walls and play music by the MANY MANY artists out of Michigan! Detroit is rich with history and this is an amazing opportunity to show that to people while they enjoy Detroit style pizza! GO LIONS!

Yelp
Food and service. As a recent diagnosed Celiac, I ordered and ate the most delicious gf pizza. The waitress was exceptionally patient with me and explained the menu. I finally found a restaurant where I can eat a pizza. It will be my go to place from now on
