Where to Eat and Drink in Portland’s Pearl District

"Walking into Via Delizia, the first thing that greets diners is a looming faux olive tree and walls depicting a rambling street in Italy. Via Delizia started as a cafe focused on gelato and pastries, and later expanded to a full restaurant serving fresh pastas and salads. In the mornings, locals flock to the trattoria for Italian-style espressos and the black pearl Benedict with apple balsamic creme sauce. And it’s impossible to leave without at least one scoop of the restaurant’s gelato, which has held the neighborhood’s attention for more than 15 years." - Maya MacEvoy, Thom Hilton

Via Delizia took my husband and I back to our honeymoon in Italy. This was the most authentic Italian food since we’ve been back in the states. The atmosphere was amazing. It felt like they plucked one of the little restaurants off an Italian street and dropped it in Portland. The price was reasonable and the portion-sizes were again very Italian as opposed to American, which we appreciated. If we make it back out here again, we will definitely be back.

Google
Upon walking in, it looks like an ice cream shop. We took a seat with the full menu offering authentic Italian dishes. Nice wine menu as well. Also kids menus! The prices were very fair, I was surprised at the end when we got our bill. My kids loved their spaghetti, Mom loved her salad and whatever I had (Italian name I couldn’t pronounce). It was so fresh! The server was so precious. There were also tables outside with a park across the street so that was nice but the ambiance inside was so cute so we sat inside. We’ll be back for sure!

The meatball was flavorful, though a little jarder than I like. My salmon salad was nice but slightly over cooked... probably because it was so thin, which made it chewy. My husland enjoyed his bolognese and my stepaon enjoyed his spaghetti. The service was excellent.

We visited recently for a special occasion. The server was great, very friendly and we ordered almond Italian soda, Tiepida and beet salad, burrata, fettuccini Alfredo, rigatoni alla pesto, penne Al diavolo rustico and penne Pomodoro and all the food was delicious. I could tell pastas and sauces were freshly made and tasted really good. We finished our meal with their creamy, rich gelatos. A must visit if you like Italian food. Also, all our dishes were made without meet and we got seasonal grilled vegetables on the side .

The ambience was really good. Ordered a caprese panini and beet salad with chicken. Got our food after 20 min wait. The salad came with no chicken and had to wait for it again. Both our dishes were delicious. Disappointed with the quantity of chicken that was given for the salad which was extra 6$. The service could definitely improve. But would come back here to try more dishes.

Intimate European-like setting right next to a beautiful park. Each dish we ordered for our family of four had to take a trip around to each person's place to enjoy. Each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff is lovely and we also enjoyed the unique flavors of gelato.

Very cute place. We stopped by for breakfast on a weekday so it wasn’t busy. Service was friendly. Food was delicious. We tried the panini and the frittata

Downtown Portland

Google
The food here is authentic and excellent. I had the spaghetti alla bolognese, which I have at every Italian restaurant, and it was one of the best. The noodles tasted authentic and were cooked perfectly. The sauce was a sensational combination of ground meat and tomatoes. One person I was dining with got the salmon pesto fettuccine. The pesto sauce was amazing- they add cream to it which is a perfect addition. All the food was great, service was excellent, and atmosphere great. The neighborhood is also fabulous- one of my favorite places to walk around downtown.

Yelp
Everything was amazing about this place! The food came out very quick, and was really tasty and flavorful. I ordered the sangria, and for $10 this was an amazing deal. The service was very quick and the entire restaurant had a calming and relaxing ambiance.

Yelp
I think this might be my go-to dessert spot this summer. Reasonably priced gelato at $3.85. Lots of options and basically now I'll need to try each flavor. Super friendly staff with a good sense of humor, which is appreciated. Cute inside seating with a giant tree (it's the nature in me). They also have some outside and there's the park across the street to enjoy your gelato.

Yelp
Good price for the top quality food. Beautiful part of Portland and nice park across the street. Place was immaculate and well decorated with a cool tree inside. Gelato selection was heaven along with all the other desserts I tried. Very rich food. The dinner itself was hearty but healthy and not massive quantities. Good background music. Very cute to see the prom couples there. Waitresses were very polite and easy going. Pretty too. The place smelled really good even from outside as we walked up. Can't wait for summer to get cold gelatos all the time! Thank you guys!

Yelp
This place has really gone downhill in the last couple of years. The service is good, but the food is just terrible.

Yelp
This is a great option if you are wanting a weekend brunch place that doesn't have a wait and has easy nearby parking. Pre-Covid I am sure this was not true, but sadly The Pearl is not what it used to be, which in this case worked to our advantage. We dined here at prime brunch time on a Saturday. I had made a reservation, but it really was not necessary, as it was not that busy.  We ordered the Pearl Benedict, and the Frienze. I really enjoyed my omelette, but friend was disappointed in here Benedict as it said it came with brioche, but her's had the same boring piece of bread that came with my omelette. You expect an Italian place to have amazing bread but it was nothing short of what you get in the grocery store. Both dishes seemed very similar. The only difference is the Benedict had a poached egg, but the vegetables and the sauce seemed to be the same.

Yelp
We had some time to kill in the area and happened to discover this small restaurant. We were looking a an iced coffee at the time and discovered that the Starbucks around the corner had closed. It's a small corner restaurant with in door and outdoor seating. The inside is quaint with fake trees in an area designed as a European courtyard. It was a relaxed vibe. They serve coffees, gelato, wines and a food menu. I can't speak to the food, but it was a hot day and the staff recommended an Affogoto; Italian espresso poured over a scoop (traditionally) of vanilla ice cream or gelato. My husband went the traditional route and I ordered mine over cookies and cream gelato. It was such a refreshing treat! My husband actually ordered a second one to go and I had a Doppio shot of espresso to go. Yes. (86 can assume we liked it!! We definitely would be back when we are in the area.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We started with the burrata. They brought us extra bread when asked. I had the salmon - also delicious. Service was friendly and all orders accurate, though just a little bit slow. Ambience was great! If I could give 4.5 stars I would. Solid place. I will return.

Yelp
We got 8 water glasses and everytime there were floaters in our water. Servers were really nice about it. Honestly, the water grossed out the whole table.

Sally M.

Yelp
This is NOT a 4 star place. Ambience is cute and cozy. Service is average, but food disappointing. They took the order of and served two parties that came after us. The pallella had no sign of sausage or chicken, and the rice is not basmati. They did attempt to fix the dish and took it off the bill. , which was nice. The chicken w my house salad was hit and miss. Some of the chicken tasted gamey.

Yelp
Cute little place with friendly staff. The food was great. Probably the best spaghetti I've ever had

Yelp
A small corner bistro that has an amazing range of gelato and a decent selection of fresh food options. Located in the Pearl, on a rather nondescript corner, Via Delizia has a few outdoor tables to enjoy Tanner Springs Park and the parade of people making their way to and from. On the food side, pasta, a few different protein dishes and a nice range of vegetables - make it easy for just about everyone to enjoy a meal. They have a few wine pours of both red and white varietals, and the ever important negroni. The service is kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Ticks all the boxes.

Yelp
I found out about Via Delizia through TikTok, and was enchanted by the tree and the ambience of the restaurant. The video did a good job making the restaurant looking way bigger than it really is. It's a very small restaurant. When we came, thankfully we missed the lunch rush, and we got seated at a table right by the tree decor. It was so lovely to take photos by. We both got pasta dishes, which to be honest, weren't very memorable. They were kind to give us samples of gelato and ice cream from desserts, and we ordered two small cups for ourselves. A satisfying lunch before continuing on the rest of our adventures in Portland.

Yelp
laid back place with Italian cuisine. They have limited cocktails but we like wine and pasta was delicious with generous portions
google avatar

Melinda G.

Yelp
What a great little gem. They have outdoor or indoor seating. The service was impeccable! Very inviting and casual ambience. I had the Mediterranean salad with chicken and avocado. It was very delicious. Fresh and had the best combination of savory flavors. I will definitely be back to try some of their Italian dishes and paninis
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the ambience and friendly service. The pasta was overcooked. That was a little disappointing. The pasta primavera could have used more veggies.

Yelp
One of my favorite stops, in Portland. This time was the Beet Salad, add olives, avocado, and salmon. Everything was perfect; food, service, ambience, cleanliness. Until next time!

Yelp
First of all, the staff at Via Delizia are wonderful people and a joy to be around. I work nearby, and by the time I actually ordered food from there, I was already a fan. However, I have a very particular palette and wasn't surprised when there was something to my dish I wasn't quite sure about. The quality and taste was amazing, but there was just something I couldn't quite distinguish so I could order the dish a bit differently, next time. I did not ask, but the chef actually came out and went through each ingredient with me. He was able to figure out exactly how I would like it best, and without a second thought, brought it out to me after remaking my dish. It was absolutely delicious. I didn't write a review after this experience, though. I generally don't unless I think a place is truly special and absolutely deserves it. After coming in several more times, I found Via Delizia's versatility refreshing and quite fun, actually. For what are you in the mood, today? Dinner with a date in a romantic setting? Make a reservation for what you have in mind. Are you looking for a place to have lunch with a colleague? There's a beautiful bar area that overlooks the Pearl District and not the cash register. There are the people, as well, who like to take their time, sit in the sun outside, and enjoy a quality glass of wine. Personally, being on the go much of the time, I like to pick up orders that have always been made just as I'm picking them up. Honestly, the chef is amazing. When I have time, sometimes I just stop in for a treat, which is always top shelf. The gelato is amazing, and they keep things interesting with a flavorful rotating menu for it. It's a must to try out, and truthfully, Via Delizia is a must to try out. As I found out over time and not just one particular great experience, Via Delizia covers just about any dining experience you're looking to have. Honestly, though, it's the unbelievable Mediterranean fusion inspired dish the chef went out of his way to make sure was everything I could want that is the basis for this review. That is the kind of service, when paired with amazing food, that can set a restaurant apart from most when backed by consistency. Via Delizia has not only been consistent over the course of time but has also delivered in many different ways providing outstanding versatility, as well. It's the kind of place you will see the same people at multiple times per week, including myself. I truly appreciate the people behind the food and service at Via Delizia, the embodiment of the vibe you'll find in the Pearl District.

Jane C.

Yelp
Tonight my son took me to Via Delizia. He goes there often and wanted me to try their food. I loved the atmosphere, especially the huge tree covering the ceiling. I felt like I was sitting out side. I had a pesto dish with fresh vegetables and shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. The chef prepared an excellent dish--five-star dinner for sure. The Mediterranean fusion was fantastic!!! We also had some of their gelato for dessert. It was yummy!! Their service was terrific. Great staff. I can't wait to go back and sample some of the other dishes on the menu. Thank you Via Delizia for a wonderful evening!!

Sophia W.

Yelp
This restaurant is AMAZING!!! The waiter (Cory) was such a pleasure and the pasta was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect for the occasion. I would also highly recommend for large parties!

Mary C.

Yelp
Sorry...I'm 1/2 Sicilian and 1/2 Italian and this place was a huge disappointment. We asked for some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the side and what they brought was a shot glass filled with mostly olive oil and the vinegar at the bottom of the glass (most places put it in a small plate so you can mix it and dab your bread in it....and the bread they provided was focaccia (which already has olive oil in it) not the normal white italian bread that's soft on the inside and a little crunchy outside. The Cannoli I ordered for dessert did not taste like it was made with ricotta cheese. It was something white and something creamy with a sweet taste to it but it missed the mark. Last but not least, I ordered Rigatoni Bolognese and it had very little flavor. The service was slow and uninformed about what they have and do not have. And the photos make it seem like it's a huge place with tables under the tree, etc. (a very romantic setting) when in fact it's a very small cafe with about a half dozen tables. I don't write reviews very often, but I thought this one was important.

Yelp
I have had lunch and coffee here multiple times somehow never got down to the review . The place is pretty popular with the neighborhood so you will find them crowded most lunch days .The interior exudes a cozy atmosphere, featuring imitation trees and a laid-back ambiance but the seating is not very comfortable . I love that they are not too extensive with the menu but what they have they make really good . I would highly recommend the gelatos here -lots of options and great quality .
google avatar

Diana H.

Yelp
Sorry to give such a review as the service was very good and the ambiance nice sitting under the big olive tree; however, my daughter, whose birthday we were celebrating, was the only one who enjoyed her dish! I am so glad for that, as she chose the place! We started with the buratta, which was tasty, but could have been better with smaller chopped tomatoes (they were very big!) My daughter got the fettuccine Alfredo had chicken, chicken, spinach, and tomatoes and was very good (a bit light on the sauce, though). My bolognese, to be honest, I could have made much better myself. The meat sauce tastes slightly burnt. Hubby got the seafood risotto, but as you can see in the picture, it was more like a brother soup than a risotto! So, it was not the best Italian experience.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Love the ambiance Great food Friendly staff Came here for the wife's birthday and she loved it!
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
Great food, excellent sauces, good wine list and 20 plus fresh homemade gelato - whats not to love??

S M.

Yelp
This place does not know what it wants to be. Gelato shop? Maybe, but there are better places in town and the case humms so loudly it is annoying. Breakfast place? Maybe, but it is not better than a Dennys. Dinner restaurant? Maybe, but the ambiance is sterile (except for the big cement tree) and the food is like a cafeteria. There is no organic way this place has such a high rating. I have been here twice for breakfast and it was just fine. Nothing special and nothing awful. We went last night for dinner and it was just blah and so-so all around. Their beet salad is large clumps of romaine lettuce, cold canned beets, literally two strands of carrot and some feta on top. My girlfriend's pasta was clearly out of a box and I would be shocked if they even made that sauce. Tasted like something you would toss together at the last minute at home. My salmon tasty oddly like shrimp and was covered in some sort of gooey brown/grey sauce. $90 bucks later we left hungry and disappointed.

Yelp
I was visiting from California with my mom and we came across this amazing restaurant in pearl district. It was so amazing we came 2 days in a row for breakfast. Very welcoming atmosphere and service was outstanding. I got the breakfast panini and my mom got an omelette. Will definitely stop here again once we come back to visit.
google avatar

Tess S.

Yelp
i got the Italian melt panini and it was delish!! the house salad and the dressing was soo good too!! loved the tiramisu, just wish it was richer.

Yelp
I've passed by so many times on walks around my friend's place in the Pearl and finally stopped by this morning (solo) for a quick breakfast. Wow! The service was amazing the moment I walked in. Two friendly men greeted me immediately, handed me a menu and asked if I'd like something to drink. I got a vanilla latte that transported me to heaven! The foam on top was delicious, too. I ordered the black Pearl Benedict and well, just look at this photo! It was so good. The only reason this experience is 4 stars and not 5 is because my eggs were overcooked, not an ounce of jiggle, which as you know is blasphemous for eggs Benny. It was delicious, and I can't wait to come back and try lunch!
google avatar

Dannie C.

Yelp
Fresh pasta, great atmosphere... fun memorable afternoon with the family! The spicy pasta wasn't all that spicy, and the bread was closer to a toasted bun than it was an Asian bread... every thing else was solid.

Giorgina M.

Yelp
Cute atmosphere! It's just smaller than I expected but the food was great and portions were perfectly sized

Marie-Louise O.

Yelp
It is important to me that food served hot (temperature) is served in a hot dish, of course not burning hot Lately I have enjoyed the service. Our party of 10 enjoyed the hospitality extended to us and yes the food was just the right temperature and good The ambiance is pleasant, espec ially when piano music is playing in the background.
google avatar

Katrina H.

Yelp
The food, gelato, AND customer service is all immaculate. Prepare for them to always be busy and give them grace for any wait times- it's worth the wait!!!

Emilyn C.

Yelp
My family and I came here for dinner and it was lovely! The restaurant was decorated very nicely and it was very pretty. The staff was very friendly and inviting as well as helpful. I had the Lasagna, and it was delicious. There was a cheese sauce on it that tasted so good and honestly if it was not for manners, I would've licked the plate clean. For dessert I had the Cookie Dough gelato and a warmed up chocolate chip cookie. It tasted very fresh and high quality. Overall, very good experience!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Everything we had was just delicious! Lasagna, wow! Bronzed Salmon? Yes, please! Wish they had cocktails but wish they had more comfortable chairs even more. Lol. But will definitely be back! Seriously good food
google avatar

Helene T.

Yelp
Soothing ambience, great service, and delicious food. The mussels were tender and it came with a cheesy tomato sauce. Yum! The dressing on the beet salad was sweet and citrusy. I was kinda full when the entree was served but that didn't stop me from eating half of it I had the fettuccine with pesto & salmon but I'm pretty sure I got Alfredo instead. I didn't complain because it was so scrumptious. The salmon was seared to perfection. We'll come back for lunch or breakfast next
google avatar

Cole K.

Yelp
Absolutely FANTASTIC place to go in Portland for dinner. Wow I was IMPRESSED! I took my parents from California and my girlfriend there for a Saturday night dinner. Was very impressed with the attentive service from our waiter. The decor in this establishment was incredible as well. The entrees and appetizers were incredible and so was the wine! (They give you good hefty pours of it, which we all loved!) I would 100% go back to this place. Really appreciate the excellent service. Highly recommend for your next dinner and date night here!

Jim B.

Yelp
Luis as a server was terrific and all the dishes served not only appeared relatively quickly, even though the restaurant was very busy, but they were superbly prepared. I inquired about a wine selection at a neighboring table and Luis even offered me a sample taste--certainly above and beyond the call of service. I will definitely be patronizing Via Delizia!1

Patrick C.

Yelp
This gem is just fantastic. The food is consistently great, always fresh and bright flavors. Today's tomato soup was surprisingly rich! Our waiter was attentive and on the spot. We love the tree that sprawls across the ceiling. It provides a great ambiance, more than just a sit-down diner.

Marissa M.

Yelp
Adorable little place with great service. The food was good and the gelato was yummy.
google avatar

Melanie A.

Yelp
Really interesting take on eggs Benedict. I really did enjoy the twist. I shared the one with meat and shared with my aunt. My mom got the vegetarian one.. hers was a little too sweet for me. I prefer the savory, with the cheese sauce. Delicious
google avatar

Karina M.

Yelp
Great pasta and gelato . Love the interior. Staff is always friendly. You must try cannoli!!!!
google avatar

Felix F.

Yelp
Excellent spot for breakfast and coffee. The Breakfast Panini was flavorful and fresh. Loved the calm and inviting ambience as well.

Steve D.

Yelp
The service was slow with bursts of attentiveness. The restaurant has the vibe of like a little bistro... but with a huge fake olive tree inside. Didn't really add anything for me. I ordered the chicken bacon panini and my girlfriend got the Toscanini panini with Caesar salads. The salad was below average. Lettuce was old, had some browned edges. The sandwiches were ordinary. A bit dry.
google avatar

Bradlee E.

Yelp
By far one of the most beautiful eateries in the Pearl. The food is consistently fresh and lovely. Staff is amazing (Louie) especially, always going above and beyond. I recommend the bruschetta to start!

Richard F.

Yelp
Delicious, friendly, reliable, tasty, fair pricing, wonderful service, nice restaurant in Pearl District

Trisha C.

Yelp
Came here with a friend on Friday. There were only two other parties during our entire stay, so we were able to space out. I had their Penne al Diavolo Rustico based on the recommendation of the waiter. It is filled with sausage, tomato, spinach, and tomato-creamed sauce. It was very creamy. Though I would have liked it a bit more hot when it was served to me. We also had their gelato. Since the gelato was in a restaurant, we were able to try the flavors before purchasing a scoop. I highly recommend their blueberry flavor! The waiter was very friendly and wore a mask the entire time. The huge olive tree is absolutely gorgeous especially with the lights hanging from it. I would definitely like to come here again!
google avatar

Sd H.

Yelp
Note to self: Huge fake tree inside: looks like a nightmare to clean. Glad i wasn't sitting underneath it. Pesto Fettuccine Salmon wasn't bad; maybe 4 stars The glass of Vinho Verde, while a generous pour, was horrible. I left most of it. My partner got the paella, but it was really a risotto w/a base of rice. 2 out of 5 stars. Definitely an old school Italian feel with an older clientele to match.

Yelp
Review for breakfast - I order the Sunrise in the Pearl Benedict and I was very happy. Great flavor, a beautiful presentation, the right amount of sauce, and beautifully cooked eggs.
