"The hotel’s soothing sea blue and white color palette brings the ocean indoors, putting you in a vacation state of mind. If you’re looking to dine in, Sugar Palm offers Pan-American fare and classic cocktails, but the real star of the show is the outside area, which includes two pools flanked by brightly decorated private cabanas and a quirky, geometric (and very Instagram friendly) graphic art wall." - Krista Simmons

"Start us off with an overview. Walk to the beach, the pier, and other Santa Monica highlights from this intimate hotel, one of the few four-star options in the neighborhood. Opened in 2002, the Viceroy has undergone a recent renovation transforming many of its spaces to make the most of the Southern California weather. Hang by the updated pool area in one of the new private, open air cabanas or at the redesigned restaurant and bar that flow seamlessly from inside to out. Who else is staying here? Special occasions celebrators, romantic weekenders, limelight-shunning VIPs, and families who want to be by the water can all be found lounging around the resort. How fluid was check in and check out? Checking in is smooth sailing, from the welcome glass of bubbles to the efficient service. Tell us about the digs. Enjoy views of the ocean, pool, city, or gardens from the 169 accommodations, which range from standard guest rooms to multi-room suites. Pillow-top mattresses encased in Italian linens, bespoke furnishings, ROIL and Natura Bisse bath products, Bluetooth alarm clocks with USB ports, and a modern beach house vibe are found in all, while suites have separate living rooms. Were there in-room amenities or little touches that you'd rave about? How was the Wi-Fi—and was it free? A daily guest amenities fee of $35 gets you Wi-Fi. and access to bicycles, the fitness and business centers, beach yoga classes, and discounts at select area retailers and the in-house restaurant. Give us the lowdown on the F&B. Enjoy drinks and snacks in a poolside cabana, or head inside to the dramatic Sugar Palm Lounge for cocktails and DJ-spun tunes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the poolside bites come from the kitchen at Sugar Palm Ocean Avenue, which was recently revamped and serves up coastal dining in an indoor-outdoor setting. Any other services or features you'd like to shout out? In addition to the two plunge pools, there's a 24-hour fitness center where, for a fee, you can book a trainer for a one-on-one session (either in the gym or on the beach). The daily amenity fee also gets you access to beach yoga classes led by a nearby studio, and the staff is at ready to set you up at an area spa or arrange a surfing, paddleboard, or biking experience. Bottom line: Why is this place worth a stay? If you're after a beach-chic hideaway near lots of oceanside action, this is your spot." - Sandra Ramani

"Another year, another Cochon 555 at the Viceroy in Santa Monica. The hotel has just confirmed that the roving pork party, where a handful of chefs compete against each other using all things pig, will go down on March 11, with tickets starting at $130." - Farley Elliott

The staff at the Viceroy could not have been sweeter and more accommodating. During our stay, my husband and I got COVID and ended up needing to quarantine for a week in our room. We ordered in Door Dash for pretty much every meal and Laura and BJ would immediately notify us when it arrived and set it outside of our room. It was SO appreciated. Sasha, the manager worked with us on our rate since we had to extend for so long, and Germana in housekeeping cleaned up our mess!! It was as pleasant an experience as one could expect being quarantined with COVID. ||Additionally, the coffee bar downstairs is really good and so is the food in the restaurant! Before we got sick, we enjoyed happy hour each day with drinks and hummus and it was a bargain. ||Thank you so much, Viceroy Santa Monica! You all truly went above and beyond. We will absolutely be back next time we're in the area.

I couldn’t be happier we chose the Viceroy for our stay in Santa Monica. Just on the edge of all the action so it is quiet and tucked away from the crowds of downtown. Very easy beach access, and we loved taking the hotel bikes for a ride around town. The outdoor bar and bartenders are wonderful. The room is spacious and decorated beautifully. The staff at the hotel could not be kinder and more attentive to the guests!

Google
The Viceroy hotel was an exceptional experience. It is beautiful with lots of nooks inside and outside to sit, work or relax. The service was exceptional from the check in desk, housekeeping, valets and especially the servers. We really enjoyed Amy who was the bartender each night of our stay. She was so sweet and attentive. The hotel has a lovely happy hour and delicious coffee bar.

Google
The hotel was in a fabulous location and the hotel staff amazing, accomodating and helpful 100%. (I am hoping to get a late check out ( 1hour) of noon tomorrow so fingers crossed!) . The coolest part was the awesome driver Chuck who not only drove us to Hollywood but gave us a fabulous overview and experience of LA!! His insight into the area, its history, “cool places to see” and safety tips was second to none. He made our trip for sure. He really cared we had a great time and he was the absolute best. Hope to see him again on our next visit.! Thank you!!!

Google
I paid expensive cost and it was worthy. I felt a little bit sad cause my partial ocean view room has really small ocean view but the restaurant which located in 1st floor the name Sugar Palm was amazing! I never have eaten Shishito pepper before visit here. It was really nice dish. Valet guy was really nice and kind.

Google
2 stars only because the service is really really good. They’re super nice here. The rooms are beautiful and the location is great, but gosh - the rooms are so dirty. The duvet was stained, and when I asked for another one, they gave me yet another duvet that had blood stains. What is it with hotels these days being extremely dirty even though we’re paying good money to stay? The bathroom is lovely too but again - it wasn’t properly cleaned. I found hair in different places, and the tub had small stains. I wanted to love this hotel, as the service was really good, but if I’m paying this much, the rooms absolutely have to be clean.

Google
Marta was super helpful in setting up our group for our work trip! The entire staff were really great. ||The rooms were spacious and the beds and pillows omfortable. And the food was really good! I’d come again for work or pleasure any day! Thank you!

Matheus B

Google
Just a perfect stay overall. The room was cozy and bed/pillows were extremely comfortable. It’s a great hotel if you like walking around since it’s nearby the best stuff in Santa Monica and traffic there is bad.|Special thanks to John and Paola for helping me out with everything I needed!

Yelp
I had a great at the Viceroy. Initially I was nervous after seeing some of the reviews but I didn't have any issues - staff was very friendly, my room was very clean, only downside is the walls can be a little thin but it didnt disrupt my stay. I had accidentally booked a city view room but switching to an ocean view room when I checked in was super easy. Gorgeous view and only a 5 min walk to the beach. Bathroom was clean and I enjoyed taking a bath there! The hotel food is hotel food - I had a good breakfast but recommend checking out the local flavor. Reception offered to have the bellman bring my Uber Eats up which I thought was a nice touch. Overall solid beachside hotel with excellent service, looking forward to staying here again in the future.

Yelp
When we left the hotel they credited both room costs, which I felt was appropriate. On December 30 and 31 they put the charges back on our card without telling us. BAD BUSINESS AGAIN.

Krystle M.

Yelp
Where do I start?! I've been dealing with a dispute with this company for the past 3 months. Upon arriving at this hotel (which I booked through Amex travel) I was told that I would have a room with a CITY VIEW as well as be able to receive IN ROOM spa services during my stay. For these reasons I selected this hotel for my birthday staycation on Aug 13th - Aug 16th. Upon checking in on the 13th ... I was told that I wouldn't be able to receive the complimentary upgrade because the hotel was full. When I went to my room.. I noticed that I did NOT have a city view. I contacted the front desk and was told that my room was a "partial city view" however that was not an option when booking. They would not allow me to upgrade unless I paid an additional $250 per night. I declined considering my stay was already a total of $1532.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Súper chic hotel with great amenities and food! Must stay if you are in the area. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Haven't finished my stay but wanted to get some thoughts out. Everything I've read about the staff is true. Welcoming, friendly, accommodating. Ryan at the front desk was also patient, informative and charming. I have my service animal and they brought a bed and bowls up for her. I also requested a coffee maker to be brought up and wow they're fast. I was a bit bummed it was Folgers thinking it would be something drinkable. They're generous with the bottled water which is nice. Also like the others have said, the A/C is loud. The room is very cozy. My partner said that it's one of the coziest rooms we've stayed in in a long time. That it's homey and I agree.

Yelp
We had the most incredible experience at the Viceroy Santa Monica hotel. The proximity to the beach was an absolute game-changer - just a short walk away, making it super convenient. Exceptional level of service and thehe staff went above and beyond to make us feel valued. Our room was a haven of modern comfort, with a stylish and clean design that perfectly captured the coastal aesthetic. The subtle beach-inspired decor was a thoughtful touch, creating a serene and relaxing ambiance. But let's talk about the staff again - their hospitality was next level. From offering personalized recommendations to promptly addressing any requests, their dedication made a significant impact on our experience. The prime location, impeccable service, and inviting room combined to create a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Gayla H.

Yelp
Sweet boutique hotel! Concierge Adam was amazing to work with. All the staff were friendly and accommodating.

Kelly N.

Yelp
Great hotel, great location, great staff. Enjoy my stay here 3-4 times a year. Menu is always updated with new foods and wine selection.

Marshall Y.

Yelp
Trendy, relaxing atmosphere. Rooms with view of beach shows how close you really are to the beach. It's just a quick walk down the block. Nice cabana area for breakfast and night time hangouts. Breakfast is pricey but tasty and convenient

Yelp
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Viceroy Santa Monica was updated about 20 years ago by the very talented American interior designer Kelly Westler and it was a marvel for years. Her designs are luxurious, visionary, unexpected. Of coarse, things date, and in the hotel industry this means an update in order to keep things fresh, but in this case, at least to a fan of Westler's vision and taste, it felt more like an inexpensive, boho white wash. While the bones are still there at the pool area, and the service experience was overall a good one, the recent hip, modern, light wood remodel at Viceroy broke my heart so much so I had to go online and look at the genius in Wertler's original color saturated redesign and marvel at the decision to erase it in order to go in such a boring, West Elm direction. The rooms are small, and they definitely skimped on remodeling these, with just some small changes like bedspread & a fresh coat of paint. Great location by the SM pier. Sad to see such design vision erased --still has great bones, and others may enjoy this update, but for me, some of the gorgeous has left the building.

Yelp
I booked the Viceroy because it was on Travel and Leisure Condé Nast Traveler magazine list of top Hotels. I booked a 2 queen, partial ocean view and we were upgraded to a full ocean view. The room was spacious and nice but the AC blew right on me and when I adjusted the thermostat, the room was too hot. We couldn't leave the sliding door open because of the traffic noise. The bathroom had a nice size tub and makeup vanity area, but the sink had no counter space, I did know where to put my toothbrush. It was basically big enough for the bottle of soap. The in-room hair dryer did not work and I had to call for a shower cap. The room package I booked included valet and a credit for breakfast. We ate in the restaurant which had a nice outdoor dining area. The food was ok, not spectacular. The location was a block from the beach and walking to great restaurants. The hotel was remodeled and looked modern and cool. For what I paid, I'd probably stay someplace else next time.

Yelp
Five stars are for the staff... super friendly and responsive. The location was also perfect. Otherwise I wouldn't spend the money to stay here... mattress was awful (thin and hard as a rock) , rooms are not sound proofed at all... Heard our neighbors loud and clear all night long. Rooms were renovated but dingy. Small and low ceilings. No towels in room when we arrived one roll of toilet paper. Just not what you expect from an over $500/night hotel. I would rather pay the extra $ a night somewhere else and be happy. Also you have to Valet for $55 a night which we didn't see listed anywhere when we booked. Among other annoying things. There was a fire drill where the alarm went off several times for 5 minutes at 9:30 in the AM. We will never return

Bobby M.

Yelp
Exceptional hotel experience from the moment I got out of the car, to the moment we set off! The entire staff are incredibly service oriented and made you feel like a VIP throughout your stay. Fantastic location with a quick walk to the beach or downtown Santa Monica. I would definitely return and highly recommend!

Yelp
Horrible. We rented a pool side cabana for the day, for a birthday celebration. Never again. It was over an hour before a server came to take out food order. Once the food arrived, it was very tasty however, we asked for our dishes to be cleaned up, no one did. The staff cleaned up everything around us but skip our cabana. We asked at least 6 times, nothing. The restaurant was not busy nor were there any other cabanas in use. The server did make sure to add a 20% tip to the bill and made us close our tab, claiming he was leaving. He didn't. I hate to say this but we were the only brown people there, and it was obvious that no one cared about our experience. I'm extremely disappointed. Will not be going here again.

Ana R.

Yelp
What it feels like to be brown at the Viceroy. We were a party of 10 Latinas celebrating a 40th bday party. We rented a cabana poolside. Ordered food and drinks from 11am-5pm. About 2 out of 20 dishes were picked up. The bill was brought with 20% tip added- even though we were not serviced. we couldn't even ask to speak to a manager because the staff was non existent. The last 90 minutes we didn't see anyone at all. Couldnt take pictures because the area was so messy. There weren't even any trash cans to do it ourselves (even though we shouldnt have had to) Drinks horrible. My sister asked for a lemon drop and it was sour. She asked if they could put more simple syrup in it. She was given a cup of syrup for her to fix it herself. It was NOT busy even though the manager used that as an excuse when they finally came at the end of our pool day. The other big groups throughout the pool had areas that were spotless. Our browness was not welcomed here. I will never go back ever again. But being that I'm brown- I doubt they care.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Feels like it's been forever and more since I last visited Santa Monica since the pandemic and prior to, but Viceroy is such a great location for brunch and just relaxing without worry. Alfred helped take care of my order and always checked in between other servers who would stop by to drop off food or my drinks. Also my first time have something different from a cheese board but their Mediterranean items were amazing. Stuffed grape leaves with not too soft fillings and the right level of sourness, and the hummus with pita bread actually paired super well with the green olives. The overall vibe is chill, there's no rush to go anywhere and parking is complimentary, how can it be any better for a long awaited visit. Will be going back for brunch with friends and family again.

Yelp
If you stay here, esp. on the weekends, you will be woken up 7am with air horns and chanting protestors. DO NOT BOOK! They do not warn you!

Honest A.

Yelp
Pros: -Super friendly staff everyone was super helpful and nice -Cute lobby Cons: -Dark dingy room with low ceilings and outdated furniture -Holes in towels and upholstery on chairs -first thing I see on the ground in valet is a used drug syringe, told them when I checked in and it still was there in the morning. Shows how much the care huh? -some bald guy was following us back to our room Late at night and security confirmed he was following other people earlier in the day -got the car back from valet and it was covered in ants? My girlfriend was soo pissed! Got this room for her birthday For $450 for 1 single night, definitely going to stay somewhere else next time. The employees are nice but this property is garage way overpriced for what they are charging

Emily N.

Yelp
incessant disruption caused by striking hotel workers every morning at 7 am. It's unacceptable that this has been going on for a year without any resolution or consideration for the guests, or citizens around the building. The noise and rudeness of the workers made it impossible to have a peaceful stay. Management needs to address this issue immediately for the sake of their guests' comfort and satisfaction. Avoid this hotel if you value your peace and quiet. Pretty pathetic, and selfish for many many reasons.

Kassandra N.

Yelp
The hotel was in a great location and the pool was nice. This, however, is not a luxury hotel, I suppose you're paying for location alone. There's no option to rent or watch movies (my kids favorite thing to do at hotel is rent a movie before bed), only limited cable TV. The light in the closet doesn't turn off, ever. We had the worse night of sleep, we asked for assistance or explination of how to turn off light at 11:15pm by calling the front desk. They sent the security guard up at 11:45 (he admitted he had no idea why he was sent because he had no idea what to do), unable to help. My husband asked for some blue painters or masking tape to cover the seams of the door.... He came back 20 mins later, "we only have clear tape". My husband said "you have a permanent marker too? Maybe we can color in and cover?" This guy was over us... he laughed and left the room. So no luck and time wasted staying up til 12:15am with the kids for nothing. I'm quite sensitive to light during my pregnancy, I'm already having a hard time sleeping.....but I'm finally able to fall asleep, and then our neighbors in room 206 get to there room at 2:30 am..... and the girl is wasted, and screaming and crying at her boyfriend, throwing things, slamming doors..... thankfully my kids were knocked out after getting to sleep so late, but this went on for nearly and hour and a half. I debated calling front desk, I really should have, but I was already so exhausted, I knew they'd suggest we change rooms.... Not happening at 3am. We played some ambient music to try to drown out the noise which eventually came to an end. I fell asleep. 6am, the alarm clock in the room starts blasting..... someone set and left an alarm on for Saturday morning.... Needless to say, I will never stay here again and do not recommend. When checking out I explained the evening to the front desk, I also explained that when we changed our reservation (my pregnancy brain thought I had booked the hotel for the night we arrived, I had actually booked for the following day, but they kindly let us change the reservation after another 40 mins on the phone with Amex to resolve), the woman at the front desk kindly honored the hundred dollar credit towards food because originally we had booked through AMEX which offers a $100 credit toward hotel food/activities when booked thru them. I let the front desk know that we had an awful night, and I hardly got any sleep, I forgot to mention the alarm clock going off because it was so ridiculous my daughter had to remind me bc it woke everyone up . When I booked the room, she told us $516, turns out it was actually $539. That included the $55 valet comped and $100 toward food. So our total bill was $711.20, (didn't realize you are charged an additional $89 Santa Monica tourism fee). Anyways, I was hoping for some kind of compensation for staying at this hotel and not being able to sleep but all they could do is takeoff the $40 for the amenities. Nice pool, ok food, awful rooms.

Roxana H.

Yelp
Cosmetically well done but actually is a very outdated building . The A/C in the room is noisy like hell , also the drain in the sink and all the bathroom features are too old for the fancy look room . The ceiling height is super suffocating. The service is also not very friendly . I just enjoyed the coziness of the patio

Cassandra B.

Yelp
I love it here. This hotel is so welcoming! As soon as you step inside this hotel. You get a feeling of excitement. You just want to explore everything this hotel has to offer. Everything was gorgeous. I instantly ran to their outside dining section to check it out. I could see the beautiful rest of colors from the lobby. The front desk gave me a second to look at everything before welcoming me and my guest with champagne. My guest and I did a quick toast then we went to view our rooms. Our rooms were nice and a pretty good size. Beds were comfy and the views were nice. I will definitely be back

Bethany J.

Yelp
My friend and I went here last night for drinks after a lovely dinner at another restaurant. It is a very hip and eclectic hotel with newly remodeled decor. It is very bright and cheery and such a cool vibe. The outdoor patio area where the pool is has great lighting there's a beautiful fireplace out there they have cabanas tables couches heat lamps to make it very comfortable having a drink outside on a cool evening. The drinks were fabulous and the ambience was romantic. A perfect way to end a fabulous evening. The only thing I didn't like is that the cabanas were reserved for the next day, so those that were there for the evening could not use the cabana. Other than that we will definitely be back so we can stay in a cabana lol. I love the decor inside the hotel, very nice. If I didn't live in California I would definitely stay here just because I like the way it looks so much.

Matt L.

Yelp
Viceroy hotel is always nice to visit to grab a drink or just lounge at their living room. I have never stayed at this hotel personally but I came here to check out with my gf and we were really amazed with the interior style and the modern architecture vibes. It is cool to visit a hotel like this once in a while. They have cabanas and pool with hot tub for summer guests at their outside patio area too! Enjoy your stay when you get a chance to visit Santa Monica and if you decide to stay at Viceroy!

Danni O.

Yelp
The front desk people are the most unprofessional attitudes I've witnessed in a hospitality business . They're behavior during my stay was confrontational , violent, and concerning . I hope they do background checks because there might be some serious mental health issues going on with the odd and menacing behavior from the staff.

Eddie H.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we felt pampered, special, and exclusive. The front desk staff was quick to check us in, and they were able to get us in our room a few hours early, which was EVERYTHING. While we waited for our room, they let us use a cabana by the pool for free, and even gave us prosecco and waters. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the restaurant food was outstanding. The only complaints were that the pillows were thin and the water pressure was low when showering. But other than that, this place was fantastic.

susan k.

Yelp
I do not recommend this hotel. Although recently renovated the infrastructure (like water pipes) needs work. Took a shower and actual sludge back up through the sink, gross! Also the hotel is not waterfront and the service is mediocre. I had a late check out and even had the do not disturb sign on my door and the cleaning crew still came into my room while I was there. Disappointing overall and much better hotel choices that are waterfront and charming like The Oceana.

Chris N.

Yelp
We spent a weekend at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. The staff was attentive, catering to every need with genuine warmth that made us feel like VIP's throughout our stay. Our room was very comfortable with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and amenities that made it hard to leave. The hotel's location is unbeatable, close to the Pier and the promenade, but we spent most of our time at the hotel and Sugar Palm Restaurant. The restaurant has incredible food, we had dinner there both nights. The first night we tried several dishes and each one was incredible, I highly recommend the short rib, mussels and lamb chops. Our waiter, Warren, was helpful and attentive. The second night we had a 3 course meal in a cabana by the pool. Claudia made us feel comfortable and Chef Fernando explained each course before it arrived and Warren was wonderful again. We enjoyed having dinner by the pool. Overall, our experience at the Viceroy Hotel was nothing short of exceptional, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable getaway.

Yelp
woke up to labor protestors blasting sirens and horns at 7am. apparently the hotel knows about this, it has been going on for almost a year, and there was no warning at check-in. all the front desk offered was a free breakfast. just settle the union situation. for the rate the viceroy charges, it is absolutely not worth it. do not give viceroy your money. the vibes are not good here.

Prathima V.

Yelp
Our first time here and we couldn't have been happier! The things that stood out for us - family of 5 with 3 kids age 13,7,4 1) the room was clean and comfy 2) the staff was super friendly from the bell boys to the valet to the restaurant staff 3) the food was fresh and delish. We ate at Sugar Palm for dinner and breakfast. The steak frites and garlic bread was a hit with my kids. 4) the pool, bar and cabanas area was cute and loved the vibe 5) the location was so close to the pier so we could walk or bike -10-15 mins We would definitely come back here again!

Ramona G.

Yelp
Nice and trendy hotel! It's located within walking distance of the Santa Monica Pier. The rooms are cutely decorated and the beds are also comfy. The only thing was that the A/C wasn't properly working, even though it was blowing out air it felt like it was room temp. The broken A/C made it super hot and sweaty while sleeping.

Lucy T.

Yelp
I came in today to check on our stay and cabana rentals for later in the month at the Viceroy Santa Monica. Laura G and Maribel handled everything so effortlessly and kind! They walked me through all of the steps for the cabana rentals, wine lists, bottle list and food menu. They were patient and kind, as we kept having issues with the internet to log on. I had already came two days before and worked with Laura G and she was simply amazing! While I was there, there happened to be a disgruntled guest who was clearly drunk and was very hostile towards Laura G. She did everything in her power to remain calm and professional through out the entire communication with this woman. The woman antagonized Laura and Laura continued to represent the Viceroy with her professionalism over and over again. I felt awful as a patron watching this and at the same time proud of Laura G for not losing her composure. I am a huge fan of the Viceroy based on their location, the quality of their rooms and most importantly their staff. I look forward to our stay at the end of June and to celebrate life around the pool! Maribel and Laura G are two complete examples of what the core values of the Viceroy and any hotel should be.

Mikaila M.

Yelp
Stayed here multiple times and each time is such a great experience. The staff Edith, Laura, Paula, Luis, Diego, and Jose were all so welcoming and accommodating upon each encounter. Even the maids are the sweetest!

Patrick C.

Yelp
Overall, the staff is very friendly and the hotel is very nice. However, for the price and being charged three dollars for a cup of coffee seems outrageous to me. Most hotels provide complementary coffee, at least a coffee service in your room, which we had neither. I assume this is due to the cost of living in California, which is very very unfortunate. I doubt that will ever return, and certainly will pick another state for future vacations simply due to the cost of everything here

Kiki S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this hotel, our favorite in Santa Monica. There is an enclosed small pool area with table seating in the back, cozy and quaint. There are cabanas for rent, but it really isn't necessary. The living room is modern and timeless to enjoy an evening beverage after a day of exploring. No need for a car, you can walk or Uber to the District. The staff always welcomes us back with smiles and special accommodations.

Joshua A.

Yelp
Spent the weekend here on February 18th! Customer service was incredible. Rooms were very modern and clean. Wish the ceilings were a little higher in the rooms. Amenities were good. (Fee for amenities so USE THEM!) also no self parking which sucked because you're basically forced to pay for valet. Took off one star for those two issues other than that, we had a nice comfortable stay! Within walking distance of everything Santa Monica has to offer. Watch out for homeless at night, they are everywhere around Santa Monica and ocean Avenue. We would stay again, no hesitations. Price is fair, we spent about $540 a night. Also the robes inside the rooms were really nice!

Hung-Hei Y.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of staying at the Viceroy a few weeks ago. The lobby was beautifully designed and we enjoyed spending time there as well as eating from the restaurant. Modern / hip decor throughout including the rooms. Beach was very close, just needed to cross the street and then walk a block down. Pools were more like dipping pools - a little small but adequate outdoor seating. They were heated nicely so that kids could enjoy despite colder weather. Valet was quick in getting cars each time. Was probably our favorite hotel so far in the Santa Monica area.

Yelp
A manager there harassed me because my daughter was lying on a couch and treated me like a criminal after my family spent over $5000 there. He pushed his body toward mine and wouldn't let me leave. He told me I was disrespectful when I asked him why he wouldn't leave me alone. I should be filing a police report but instead I'm writing a Yelp review. I plan to report this to his superior. Also the woman who was his accomplice was equally unprofessional with eye rolls and once again treating me and my family like criminals. Also the pool here is really bad and so is the food at the restaurant.

Yelp
Five days spent at Viceroy April 2022, very designed environment "Plantation" style though that sounds bad can see it pulls from Asia and India with British and other colonial influences, fun décor. Light woods, details, furniture, terrazzo floors, very cool and hip, also very L.A. and Santa Monica. Room was good, a little tight, lacked in-room coffee making and on demand movies on the TV sadly. Biggest problem for me was street noise all day and night. The double glass sliding doors, we had an ocean view room which meant facing busy Ocean Avenue with loud cars and motorcycles non-stop. For better or worse, the HVAC system was equally loud which helped drown the street noise out, and the double sliding doors were effective at reducing street noise but not eliminating it. We were on the sixth floor. Good location and able to easily walk to good restaurants nearby. The Sweet Palm Café was our go-to place for breakfast everyday, and other meals. Really good inventive food, high quality ingredients, good service, always sunny and bright with big Nanawall bi-fold sliding glass doors looking out to the cabana area adjacent.

Yelp
Pros: Great location, very nice employees, and the hotel felt clean for its age. Although valet parking is $50/night, they were very prompt so I am not upset with the cost. Cons: I can't believe the price they are charging for what feels like a 30 year old mattress. When I asked if ANY rooms had newer mattresses, I was told, "we will be getting new ones next year." That alone is why I won't be back until the mattresses are replaced. I was told the hotel was recently renovated which is why I chose this hotel. It makes 0 sense for the mattress to be as unbearable as it was. The carpet was also very old with cigarette burns.

Yelp
Before this last time I went, it had been about a decade since I went to Viceroy. I realized I never left a review, and they definitely deserve one. Mind you, over ten years ago, I went there with a friend to celebrate her Birthday. I gave the waiter my card to open a tab, and we had a complete blast. Drinks, food, ambience. When it was time to sign the bill, the manager came and told me that he had mistakenly given my card and bill to someone else. That person was gone. So, to make things right, they told us that everything (including the bill) would be on them for the rest of the bday night celebration. Well...we absolutely tried every drink they introduced us to and even a cigar. Let's just say I quickly learned don't do well with cigars. So, as it is time to leave, they notice the bday girl is off her wheels. Totally wasted. They made sure she wasn't driving, and I assured them that I (just as wasted) would be driving. Instead of letting us go, they offered us a room at no charge to sleep it off. I think this says a lot about their care for their patrons. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that at that time it didn't seem very diverse or a welcoming place for people of color. Again...this was over a decade ago, and I'd definitely be down to give them another shot. Without being wasted... lol

Yelp
I encountered someone who works here by the name of William Frishkorn. I was having a conversation with a few of my friends and out of nowhere this guy interrupts us and takes off his AirPods and started cursing at me and says "I'm tired of hearing this Mother fucker talk" I would understand if I was obnoxiously loud but i wasn't. I was having a normal conversation about work. Still no excuse to talk to someone like that even if I was a loud person. It was really upsetting because he really singled me out and i knew its due to my sexual orientation. Sucks that there are still people out there treating others with so much disrespect. I hate writing reviews on yelp but i felt like it was important to do so because this company hired someone who was very aggressive and rude. He even threw a piece of paper at me after I told him his opinions don't matter to me. He is extremely rude and I hope no one encounters someone like him. I just want this company to know what kind of person represents their company. I will take more action about this situation because i never been so humiliated by another human being.

Yelp
I dropped by here for a b'ness event. The Viceroy is on Ocean near Pico in SM, in from the water from nearby Shutters. Before the event started, my friend and I watched March Madness in the bar that offered special pricing during "Rush Hour". She had a cosmo, while I had a sangria ($7/each), and we shared deviled eggs w/ kimchee & bacon ($5). First of all, the drinks were very good. They were nicely presented, and packed a punch. In addition, the deviled eggs were very tasty. The eggs were nicely seasoned, and unique w/ the kimchee & bacon: 4 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its very nice in here. The bar is very quaint, there are good size TVs, and the outside pool area has cabanas & a nice layout: 5 Stars. On the other hand, the service was mixed. At first our server (who appeared to be a Mgr) was very attentive. However, after our first drink arrived, she disappeared. It took a while to get a second drink and the check. Additionally, the valet charges 10% extra ($1.20) if you use a credit card (that's fukn bull$hit!). Lastly, the valet didn't remove the tag from my windshield (fukn hate when that happens): 2 Stars. All in all, a good place to have a drink and a snack if you are in the area. You can park in a public lot around the corner less expensively and avoid the bull$hit 10% surcharge for using a card.

Yelp
What the hell has happened to Kelly Wearstler's beautiful lobby?! It's now become a mosh of bad taste. Sure the seats are comfortable but so is a couch in a dumpy frat house. Only vestige of Wearstler's design exists in the BATHROOM. Still gorgeous. It's enough to have my cocktails in THERE. And don't bother to ask the staff, they're as clueless as the dumb lobby.

Yelp
The staff at the front desk was very polite and accommodating upon check-in. The room at first glance was nice, but had a lot of things wrong with it that definitely do not justify paying $650/night. There was several rust stains in the shower, the duvet cover on the bed had a huge rip on it, and the chair looked like it just got back from Burning Man, having rips and stains all over the leather. I didn't even want to sit on it. The pool is also very small, tucked in a dark corner in the back of the building. Upon checkout, we went to Sugar Palms to grab breakfast, and asked to substitute the Migas Angeleno chorizo with soyrizo, which they do have on the menu. The chef refused, stating he can take out the chorizo, but won't give us soyrizo. Wow. Just throwing fuel on the fire. We'll never be back here. It was our anniversary too. Thanks for the hospitality

Yelp
Be prepared to be charged extra fees on everything! Was really looking forward to enjoying our stay at the viceroy, however the staff charged us $300 for a broken lamp without providing any proof of it being broken. After calling and emailing multiple times nobody ever got back to us about why they charged us an extra $300. Extremely disappointed with the service/response time of the staff and will never stay here again.

Yelp
Avoid at all costs! It is one of the worst hotels I ever stayed in. It is noisy, staff, while trying to be helpful, don't return calls, strike outside the room! No minibar, bathroom is tiny. What a mess! I regret booking this.
