I would say this was the worst experience I have ever had at an establishment, and it wasn't due to service or the food. Management made an absolute fool out of themselves due to a singular manager, Jan. We came in to dine last night originally having a group of 6 we were promptly sat. Although getting food and drinks was a bit slow it's a Saturday, and our group completely understands. We Ordered a ton of food and drinks, and happily provided ID to our server. A few friends in the area had joined our group, but we were mindful and simply squeezed in at our smaller table. Which because we knew it was the original understanding of 6 guests however the 3 extra people had shown up, we were not trying to inconvenience the hosts and server by moving tables, plus at this point we were half way through our meal. Some things to note, the section we were in had plenty of open tables, we provided all the appropriate ID upon ordering drinks. Now let's talk about JAN THE MANAGER! Jan thought it would be appropriate to approach our table and berate us regarding the 3 extra guests, stating it was a fire hazard and dhec would get on them, etc,etc... Following making a scene towards the end of our meal and treating us like children JAN THE MANAGER decided to reproach us and pulled out a flashlight and her glasses and proceeded to reID us even though our server had done so prior to us ordering and we had already ordered drinks! She then felt it necessary to harass one of our guests by asking her questions about her ID because she's visiting and her ID is Maryland asking rude and honestly overbearing questions for the circumstance regarding. Flashing her light around at our table and struggling with reading IDs AGAIN AT THE END OF OUR MEAL AFTER WE HAD ORDERED! She left and then felt the need to come back again this time with wristbands bugging us about whether we were going to the bar downstairs, to which she wristbanded us and made sure over emphasize it is apparently 23 and up after 10pm, which I have never heard of or experienced at Shem creek, seeing as the legal drinking age in the United States is 21+ . We promptly left after that horrendous encounter, embarrassed on our own behalf and our servers, who if dealing with assholes could have been dealing with a walkout, but we went out of our way to all put extra in on the tip that was already being given. I also asked our server if this was a regular occurrence, and he let us know that it wasn't and was also confused and embarrassed by the encounter. More than JAN THE MANAGER being a horrendous individual and scaring off paying customers, I will never dine or recommend Vickery's to anyone ever again. Also if you are going to be the only bar on Shem to have a 23+ policy maybe post it on your website, the bar, on the menu, and socials. I did double check and no where does it say 23+ only,,, which from my knowledge is illegal and could be considered ageist discrimination. But what do I know. This establishment is an embarrassment on behalf of southern hospitality, and I'm sad to say that because our server was wonderful and all of us in attendance frequent Vicks. AGAIN JAN THE MANAGER Is someone I recommend reconsidering their position.
