This 2-mile Ice-skating Trail in Canada Winds Through a Forest — and Lights Up at Night

"When I lace up my skates and hit the ice, the Victoria Park IceWay feels like a forested escape just south of downtown Edmonton along the North Saskatchewan River: a three-loop trail covering just under 2 miles that winds languidly through the trees and, once darkness falls, is illuminated by rainbow lights so you can glide under a colorful glow until the park closes at 10 p.m. The trail is completely free and open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., though there are no on-site skate rentals (bring your own skates or rent elsewhere). Parking is available at the Victoria Park main lot, the east lot, and at the Victoria Golf Course." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. Victoria Park Trail is a wonderful place to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. The trail itself is well maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to follow whether you’re walking, jogging, or cycling. I love how it winds through green spaces, offering a mix of open areas and tree lined paths that provide shade on sunny days. There are spots along the trail that are perfect for taking a break, enjoying nature, or snapping a few photos. The trail feels peaceful and safe, even on weekdays when it’s quiet, and you can often see local wildlife like birds and squirrels, which adds to the experience. It’s also clean and free of litter, which makes for a more pleasant visit. Whether you’re looking for a short stroll to clear your mind or a longer route for exercise, Victoria Park Trail is very versatile. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nature escape without leaving the city.

Winter or summer this is a great park. The park is easily accessible off a major road and there is plenty of parking. There are public washrooms that are accessible for all. I visited here in the winter so there is a skating oval and trail that is family friendly. There is an indoor changing pavilion that is open from 9 am till 9 pm. In the summer there is a playground and trails available. There picnic tables for use also. It’s not a huge place but nice. Right in the Edmonton river valley to enjoy a little piece of nature.

A great place for picnic and relaxing. It is a big, beautiful and huge area for walking and relaxing. They allow you to bring in bouncing castle for children and you can reserve the picnic sites. The only downside for me is the limited parking area compared to other parks like Kinsmen Park. For barbecue, there is a small store close by where you can get some stuffs though quite expensive as expected. A great experience all the same.

Super great for skating during the day. The last few times have gone (between 5pm-8pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights), the rink has been closed for speed skaters. It is usually very busy and hard to find parking, and the lights on the path have burnt out a couple times. When it is all open, it’s beautiful though! People are friendly, no hockey sticks allowed so it is perfect for people who just want to enjoy skating without people playing hockey getting in the way and knocking you over! The rink is very well-kept, but the path is very sloppy. The ice feels like it has never been zambonied and snow keeps falling on it, making it very difficult to skate on and we see people wiping out on it constantly. The microphone by the rink is very fun, makes it feel like you are in a movie (but is very crackly so hopefully you like the old-movie vibe because you can’t hear the music very clearly haha)

Went to this park to celebrate Aboriginal day. The park was beautiful with lot's of old growth and Victoria golf course wrapping around it providing some of the most beautiful views of the Edmonton river valley. There is a lot of walking/biking tails around this park!!! With some free public parking!

Nice spot for a family, work or school picnic or BBQ. You need to book some spaces I believe e.g. the gazebos. We used Spot 6 and it had a lot of parking, a BBQ spot and a lot of space to run around in.

Victoria Park is a beautiful and well-maintained park located in the heart of Edmonton. Spread over 10 hectares, the park offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. Whether you're looking for a peaceful place to relax or a fun-filled day out with the family, Victoria Park is definitely worth a visit. One of the things I love most about Victoria Park is the peaceful atmosphere. Even on a busy day, you can always find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables scattered throughout the park, making it easy to find a comfortable spot to relax. Overall, I highly recommend Victoria Park to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing day out in Edmonton. It's a beautiful park that's well worth a visit!

Trails are a little bland, would be nice to have some info plaques along the route. Nice little hidden gem however. Great huge area for dogs ad some pretty weird sculptures.
