The best restaurants in Rochester, Minnesota | Eater Twin Cities

"Known for its outstanding service, Victoria’s is a longtime Rochester tradition. This establishment takes advantage of its proximity to dairy capital Wisconsin, as all parmesan cheese is sourced from Eau Galle Cheese Factory in Durand, WI. Be sure to embrace the leftovers, as Victoria’s restaurant is especially known for its heaping portion sizes." - Katy Spratte Joyce

Everything I've ever had at Victoria's is absolutely amazing—this is hands-down our favorite restaurant in Rochester! Whenever we're visiting Mayo Clinic, it's always the first place we hit, no question. This trip alone, we went twice and had zero regrets. The food arrives piping hot, perfectly prepared, and just bursting with flavor every single time. We started with the Hot Artichoke Cheese Dip (with crostini, of course)—creamy, cheesy, and loaded with artichokes and spinach. It's the ultimate comfort appetizer! Here are some mouthwatering examples of what it looks like in action. The entrees were next-level. The Lasagna was rich, hearty, with layers of meat sauce and that perfectly melted cheese on top—classic Italian done right. Then the Grilled Norwegian Salmon over fettuccine—flaky, flavorful salmon with fresh veggies and a light, herby sauce. So good! The Scallops Lazio Fettuccine was a highlight—tender scallops, zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a delicious sauce that ties it all together. Seafood perfection! We washed it down with a Blood Orange Coconut Margarita (refreshing and fun!) and finished with the Homemade Tiramisu—creamy, boozy, and topped with that rich chocolate drizzle. Absolute heaven in every bite! The service is always attentive (shoutout to servers like Ashley!), the portions are generous, and the atmosphere feels welcoming and cozy. Yes, there's a 3% credit card surcharge (clearly noted on the receipt to offset fees), but it's a small price for such consistently outstanding food. Don't wait—RUN to Victoria's if you're in Rochester. We can't wait to go back again! 🍝✨ 10/10, highly recommend!

Google
The hospitality began with a serving of hot buns that were ripped to dip into the olive oil with balsamic and shredded parmigiana. Then the Caprese was fresh with basil and chilled tomato over creamy fresh mozzarella. So yum. The Eggplant Parmigiana was incredibly flavorful with gooey melted cheese over tomato sauce deliciously covering tenderly breaded and perfectly fried eggplant slices. The Pork Marsala was tender and rich with mushrooms swimming in the sauce.

First time here, Food was amazing! Service was very odd. Very reasonable ticket times, food was nice and hot. However our server Justin was very attentive to the tables next to us. For some reason not us, we could not get a second drink or dessert. Like I said very odd. We would return again.

Google
Delicious place to eat at and fun for a romantic occasion. Food portions were excellent and food tasted excellent. Make sure you get their pasta and homemade desserts! It is downtown and in walking distance from hotels too.

We had an excellent experience at Victoria's Restaurant & Wine Bar! Our waitress was Velinda and she was so awesome! If you go you should ask for her if she's available. She made perfect recommendations for our meal and was on top of drinks and food! We started with the sautéed shrimp and it was fantastic.... buttery and delicious... a great start to our meal. My brother got the chicken parm and Velinda suggested Scallops Lazio for me. Both of our meals were top-notch and enough that we couldn't finish our meals😉... plus we wanted dessert 😋. Again, Velinda suggested the Strawberries and Cream Cheesecake and we also got a slice of chocolate cake to take home to my nephew. I will definitely go back to Victoria's and I strongly suggest going there if you are in the Rochester area or going to the Mayo Clinic.... you won't be disappointed!

Google
Tried this place for the first time. The food was excellent, very good portion size. Atmosphere was nice, very quiet & laid back. Service was fair but very friendly. Will def come back to try more off the menu! Highly recommend for a date, night out or just casual.

My husband made reservations at Victoria's for our 10 year anniversary lunch date. The food was DELICIOUS. The service was EXCEPTIONAL. Our server was AMAZING (Thank you Isaac C). The atmosphere was BEAUTIFUL. We will definitely be back!

Google
Had a really nice first visit to Victoria’s tonight, a Monday night. The atmosphere is great with a bar in the front and dining in the back. A mix of booths and tables with nice ambience. The menu has an excellent selection and I had the jumbo stuffed shells while my wife had pepperoni and meatball pizza. We started the meal with fried mozzarella as an appetizer which had eight pieces and plenty of marinara sauce. There is also complimentary bread that I could’ve ate all night. All the food was tremendous and came out in a timely fashion. Our server was attentive and very pleasant. For two people with an appetizer and water to drink we were just north of $50.

Yelp
They woo you first with warm size buns that come out hot and soft. The olive oil with balsamic and shredded parmigiana for dipping disappears quickly. The Caprese was so fresh and delicious: the basil was flavorful and refreshing with the chilled tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. The eggplant parmigiana -- truly yummy -- with al dente noodles buried underneath the mountain of rich tomato based sauce smothering delicious breaded and still-crispy fried eggplant slices. The Marsala was also saucy with hearty mushrooms and significant pieces of pork that were tender and filling. Skipped dessert but did have a glass of quilt red blend from Napa Valley. $13. Service was attentive and the interior was lovely and welcoming.

Yelp
Always good food here. A little pricey but wife insists it's worth it. They have a Victorias Express just down the hall for takeout meals.. salads, soups, calzones, and pizza. $12 range. Very good, fast. Limited menu

Yelp
Excellent service and the food was great! Four stars because there was some trim falling off the wall next to our table. Went there with my aunt, uncle, and cousin on a Friday night. We made a reservation since we were coming in from out of town. It was busy, but there were a few tables still open. We had red wine (happy hour prices if before 6pm)! Reasonable prices in all. We were all happy with our food selections: lobster ravioli, chicken Alfredo, seafood linguine, and chicken Parmesan. Large proportions so you will probably end up with a box of leftovers. For dessert we had the tiramisu which was delicious, but unremarkable.

Yelp
My family and I were staying in Rochester due to my husband having Surg and recovery . My adult son and I were out exploring one afternoon and poked our head into your establishment and your hostess was wonderful enough to tell us about many other places around the area but based on her friendliness we returned one night later and we had a wonderful dinner. Thank you.

Karnina M.

Yelp
This restaurant has a sign in the window that reads, "From Scratch Preparation Allows Us to Meet Your Dietary Needs." Don't believe it. Before I sat down, I checked with the hostess and confirmed they could handle dairy-free, gluten-free, and garlic-free dishes -- which already felt ambitious for an Italian restaurant. They reassured me it wouldn't be a problem. It absolutely was. My order came out missing half the ingredients. They took it back, then returned the dish with all requested ingredients plus tons of garlic. They took it back again to remake it "from scratch," and it came out with no sauce at all. At that point, after 30 minutes of back-and-forth, I just ate what I could. If you're ordering straight off the menu with zero changes, you'll probably be fine. But if you have dietary needs -- the very thing they advertise and claim to accommodate -- do not dine here.

Yelp
Our daughter gave us a gift certificate to Victoria's for our visit to Mayo's in Rochester. What a fabulous ristorante this is! Our meals were prepared perfectly and the wait staff were friendly and responsive. I had the shrimp and clams with Angel Hair pasta, my wife had the Marco Polo with chicken. Cooked to perfection. Our desserts were Tiramasu and Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake. Everything on the menu is priced very well, this shows on the large portions you receive.

Yelp
The food amazing the service They were nice and fast and the ambience don't get me started. It feels like you're in Italy.

Rachel W.

Yelp
Service was amazing! The place was very busy and our waiter Isaac never let my drink go empty. Everyone helped each other on staff, makes for a great experience!
google avatar

Sasidi F.

Yelp
We started with the basket of bread. The bread was delicious, but the plate of olive oil, balsamic and parmesan cheese on top was ok. The ravioli with the marinara sauce was good. My son had the cheese tortellini and the sauce needed salt but the tortellini was good.

Yelp
A little early for our reservation so we got a drink at the bar. Hubby ordered an Alaskan Amber (solid!) and I had their award winning Sangria. Tasty with an unexpected fizzy bubble finish. Yummy! Started our dinner with a creamy, tangy Caesar Salad. Huge!! I had the chicken masala. They have a snazzy veal but it was $10 more so I skipped it, but the server said it was delicious. The chicken masala (again, sizes are ginormous!!) was salty, wine forward and comforting. Just what I was hoping! My husband loved his chicken parmesan. Tender chicken, classic red sauce was good. Our server, Sophia F was so sweet! She patiently answered all of our touristy first time visitor questions! Amazing dinner and great service! Highly recommend this for a cozy Italian dinner!

Yelp
Solid selection of decently priced wines that are great for an afternoon sip! We stopped in for a pre-dinner glass of wine and enjoyed the selection. We had worried that we weren't dressed up enough but the decor was more in line with your neighborhood Italian restaurant/sports bar. A nice stop for a quick, friendly afternoon sip!

Yelp
We had a large group, $500+ tab, 25% gratuity added and the only person who liked their $30+ entrée was a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Food lacked seasoning-service was good. Lasagna was reheated and lukewarm. White Clam sauce dish used canned clams and had no flavor. Overall very disappointing food.

Yelp
I wasn't super hungry by the time we arrived at Victoria's for lunch. We got seated outside, right upon arrival. Their menu is broad featuring pizza, salad, stake, there's everything here. I was intrigued by the Portabella Mushroom from the appetizer section of the menu. We were given complimentary rolls and olive oil with cheese. I got the sangria for my drink. I was a bit taken back by the Portabella Mushroom dish. First, this was HUGE and it was messy. There were slices of sauteed Portabella mushroom floating in a very salty sea of wine and balsamic vinegar, with spinach and topped with mozzarella. This didn't look appetizing, yet it could have been if it wasn't as salty. My sangria was very good and refreshing. My lunch companion ordered garlic bread with cheese. The waitress never brought it out. When she was reminded about it, she apologized, and brought out garlic bread but it had no cheese on it. We were only charged $1, for this poor excuse of garlic bread. I wish they communicated what the issue was. I feel like they have plenty of tasty options at Victoria's, based on how busy it was, and on what others were having. We probably didn't pick the best off their menu.

Yelp
My mother had been telling me how great this place was for years and how she always went whenever she was at the Mayo Clinic. So, on a recent visit to the area with her, we swung in for dinner. The ambience and service were very nice; cocktails and wine were fine. The food however, was average at best. I had a carbonara, which as it turned out was not made in the proper Italian style, but was instead just a bowl full of noodles, drowned in Alfredo and Parmesan cheese with bits of prosciutto, which had not been given adequate time to render down at the beginning of the cooking process. In trying the other dish we ordered, I feel I could've done better in my own kitchen. I think Victoria's popularity might be based on the high traffic volume due to its close proximity to Mayo more so than the food. However, in seeing some of the other dishes coming out of the kitchen, I would try another visit for comparison.

Yelp
I could only eat about 5 forkfuls, but the Spaghetti and Meatballs were so good. I had to order through DoorDash, but it was worth it. The roll was so fresh and soft.
google avatar

Rebecca Z.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. There was gluten free and vegan . The service was amazing and fast . The price were great and lots of leftover . The room was full beautiful painting and full of life

Mary Beth J.

Yelp
Our server Manny was so pleasant and knowledgeable. He was great. The food was wonderful, and the drinks and meal very well priced. We will be back!
google avatar

Casse L.

Yelp
Great service, very cute and cozy place. Good: calamari, picatta (albeit a little saucy), cannoli, and HUGE portions all around. Okay: spaghetti & meatballs (more sauce please!), fried mozzarella (it was pre made). We enjoyed the meal overall and would come back to try something different, for sure.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner experience and came back for lunch. Food is excellent and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Feels like home.

Yelp
We've been coming to Victorias for 25 years almost every time we travel to Mayo for an appt. We stopped for lunch today, and my husband and I were blown away by our entrées. I had the chicken lunch special which had fettuccine with a very well flavored Alfredo sauce along with chicken, mushrooms and prosciutto. Absolutely outstanding, and easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. My husband had the sausage and peppers and his was top-notch as well. His one and only complaint was that the pasta was maybe a tad overdone. But all in all, the portions are gigantic, the food is absolutely delicious and our service was perfect. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
The good: food was pretty good, I think they could use a menu refresh while keeping some obvious standbys. Everyone enjoyed their food, and portions were ample. We skipped desert because we had no room, so we can't comment on that. Service: I guess I expected more from an established family owned restaurant. Our server was fine, just didn't seem really happy to be there. Ambiance was nice, if not predictable. We will definitely try again, and try some different menu items.

Melanie J.

Yelp
So excited to go to Victorias. Took the whole family. We come to Rochester every 3 weeks for my husband's cancer treatments. We love Rochester, the whole down town area, the people and restaurants. The person seating us looked like she was 12, and if she smiled it might break her face. The restaurant is beautiful but we were forced to sit in the non functioning bar area. 3 crammed in tables. Which should not be there! So terrible!!! Tried to make the best of it. Ordered cocktails, 2 appetizers and 4 meals, tipped our server well with cash. We will not be returning to be treated like that again! Shame on you Victoria! People deserve better!!!
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
Ordered via DoorDash while in town. The food was amazing! Eggplant Parmesan was the best I've had. Bruschetta was delicious as was the garlic bread. Great food!
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Incredible food! Friendly staff! Amazing dessert! The pasta was perfect, the sauce was flavorful! My husband had a scallop dish and said they were cooked perfectly!

Pey J.

Yelp
My food was okay but they forgot that i ordered like ok???? also my shirley temple took an hour and the food i got after a long time was mid ahhhh. the bread was a clutch tho

Yelp
I was seated promptly outside. Service was friendly but slow. I was looking to get another glass of wine before Happy Hour ended but no one came by for 15 minutes. When they did, it was then full price. The dish had tons of sauce and just looked sloppy. Tasted mediocre. I left most of it. The plate that was brought out for bread was dirty. The outdoor area was nice, but with the other restaurants in the area, I don't plan to return to this one.
google avatar

Yelp
This is Sorellina's By Victoria's at the Mall. Not the Downtown location. First of all, this restaurant is very inviting. Whether you like fireplace on the inside or a very large outdoor patio seating. Excellent choices either way. The food. I came from Mpls w a friend and she is quite discerning. Especially Italian. So we came in with great Expectations. Turns out, this place is really good. We both noted that folks came with kids and folks came on dates. Fairly rare to see places good for both. We ordered a couple dishes and they brought some of their fresh baked bread w olive oil, parm and balsamic. Also beverage was a sparkling cider. A bit sweet.
google avatar

Yara D.

Yelp
The food was yummy. They provided 2 rolls with a parmesan balsamic oil dip, and the dishes were very filling. Their portions are reasonable too. Service was good and the restaurant looks nice from the inside. I would come back again.

Lisa h.

Yelp
I am in love with this restaurant. I'm from out of town and a friend recommended. I hope you go when "Booty" is bartending! She's so good at her job and we had great conversations. I'm gf and they can make almost everything GF! Do you know the last time I had stuffed shells?!
google avatar

Troy I.

Yelp
Great pasta and ambiance! I wish I could have ordered a sandwich - a local secret available from 11-3pm only.
google avatar

Sonny G.

Yelp
The service is really nice. Super good food. Good Alfredo, buttered noodles, pesto, ravioli, and crab ravioli. Very nice ambiance, lots of lights, very calming place. Also very good desserts, homemade tiramisu, giant tiramisu. Overall really good place, nice service and good food, definitely recommended.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food!! Great outdoor seating!! We love to eat here when we're in town!! We'll be back!!

Yelp
Always excellent food and friendly, attentive, yet unobtrusive service. I had the walleye sandwich, friend had a lunch special of alfredo pasta with chicken, prosciutto and mushrooms. Delicious. Large portions, we each took home half.

Yelp
My business trip in Rochester wrapped up with dinner at Victoria's. Our host, a local, selected it since our conference was taking place at the Kahler. We took a short trip upstairs and found a bustling dinner crowd. It was old school but with a level of energy that says; "This joint still has what it takes." The full menu offered anything an Italian food lover could ever want. Our large party ordered an array of dishes, pasta, lasagna, veal, fettuccine and even a salad. I selected something, which I couldn't even begin to pronounce (spaghetti noodles sauteed in olive oil, kalamata olives, and tomatoes) and subbed out meat sauce instead of the customary marinara it normally comes with. Wait-I almost forgot the bread, which you CANNOT forget. It was amazing, infact, I probably could have just eaten bread all night long. A nice crisp crunch outside-soft inside and warm. This is everything a bread maker and a fan of bread wants. The large restaurant was hopping, a large kids birthday party was near us, he was wearing a fire hat-who knows why, and it appeared that the kids ordered up pizzas which looked pretty good. I didn't get a Godfather vibe and it certainly and most definitely is not an Italian chain restaurant, thank heavens! This joint is solid old school and better. Check Victoria's out when you are in downtown Rochester, be prepared to be sleepy after consuming a plateful of excellent Italian fare and consider unbuttoning your top shirt button, donning a gold chain and nugget ring and wearing your hair all slicked back just for the fun of it.
google avatar

Erwin V.

Yelp
I ordered seafood pasta. The white wine sauce was not to my liking but that pasta had more seafood than pasta. I cannot complain about that. Calamari was well seasoned and abundant. Service was excellent.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Great menu and service in a delightful romantic atmosphere!! I have dined here for years and look forward to many more visits.

Yelp
Amazing service! Amazing food! We stop here every time we come to Mayo. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Excellent food. Pleasant servers. Lots of good options to eat from. Nice place to sit
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
A huge variety of Italian food with over half of the menu being gluten free! A great location for lunch or dinner with ample seating inside and outside.

Joseph S.

Yelp
Food is outstanding. I enjoyed the fettchini. Bread and service were great! Nice location and ambiance to the place. Only negativity are the surcharges. As I find this offensive, I will limit the visits to this establishment. The surcharges are reason for the 3 stars.

John T.

Yelp
Very good food and service ! Great atmosphere. I love spaghetti. My friends liked everything they ordered
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
I love coming into town and visiting this place! Such a classic, nostalgic dining experience that takes you back to mafioso eras. This menu is temptation island: what to order? I came for lunch and was overwhelmed by the salad options. How wonderful to have so many different types of greens available: sprouts, spinach, fruits you name it. I got the grilled chicken salad with honey mustard dressing on the side...a real treat. No shortage of chicken and loved that the dressing was on the side to add at my discretion. The oil and balsamic appetizer was a delight although I was trying to avoid this carby temptation. Great for lunch dinner or outdoor dining.

Jessie G.

Yelp
The happy hour gnocchi and the Fettuccine Della Nonna were phenomenal! The bread that accompanied the meal was also great. The service was good. The happy hour wine was a cheap house wine. We ordered a medium priced bottle of wine which ended up being a really cheap wine as well. We shared the main course and weren't told there would be a $3 plate fee. We were annoyed because the meal was $38 and we were spending plenty of money. We just didn't want leftovers since we were here from out of town. They also charged $3 for anchovies on my husband's Caesar, which I've never heard of. In summary, food was amazing, wine was not, nickle and diming was annoying.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I had the minestrone soup and frutti de mare. The pasta was a bit salty, spicy and sour. I normally like capers but not these. The scallop and jumbo shrimp was over cooked. The service was great. I was greeted right away. I did not dine in but they had outside seating and it was a beautiful day for outside.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Everything regarding this visit was wonderful-the wait staff and the food, etc, and the ambiance was Excellent as Well
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
We were in town for medical appointments and decided to stop at Victoria's for dinner. We've been here before and used to go often to their sister restaurant in Minneapolis. My mom and I spit the lasagna. They have a 3.00 up charge if you split. It was basically a lot of mozzarella cheese and sauce and barely any noodles. If you're looking for traditional lasagna with layers of noodles, this dish isn't for you. We won't be back.

Jila L.

Yelp
I went with my son after a hard day at the Mayo Clinic. Our waiter could talk the talk but all hot air. They made a mistake on my son's dish so they told us they are re doing his plate. I told him to make sure they keep my plate hot while we wait. And he went on and on as to how vigilant they are about keeping the food hot. They brought our food. My son's steaming hot and mine disgustingly cold. Made my stomach turn. And I send it back of course. The only thing I tasted there was the salad I had and that was very basic and tasteless. I will not go back. Too bad. I left hungry and angry.
google avatar

Jo S.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. Decided to stop for lunch during my day of appointments. The pasta dish I had been eyeing on the menu was on special...it was fate! Chicken Bianco. The pasta: perfectly cooked. The sauce: perfectly salty and creamy. The chicken: beautifully cooked and so much of it! The prosciutto: large and beautifully presented. The button mushrooms: delightful! Bread with oil/Parmesan/balsamic plate. Just awesome. I wi be back when I have more time!!

Jimmy Z.

Yelp
I'm am circling back on victorias. My first experience was just bad. But I know blame it on my choices. My second and third visits were much better. We enjoyed a pizza there. It was solid. The crust can always be more crispy in keeping with my liking but the crust, toppings and sauce were flavorable. On another visit, we had the lasagna and fettuccine Alfredo. Both were flavorable, plenty hot and large sized portions. And the waiter was spot on. Victorias is not chicago foodie quality Italian but not bad. It's a solid choice.
