Where to Drink Coffee on Seattle’s Eastside | Eater Seattle

"Time slows down at this decades-old Redmond staple. With no Wi-Fi and an abundance of old-school charm, the cafe and roastery encourages customers to chat with each other (“Talk to each other, pretend it’s 1995,” instructs the website, which looks like it was created in that same year) over a variety of indulgent house specials, such as the zebra mocha, banana split with chocolate whipped cream, and fresh bread pudding and pastries." - Maggy Lehmicke

Very unique and homely coffee store. Staff are very kind and patient to explain the menu, and the coffee tastes great, and the sandwich is yummy. The place is dog friendly, which is a plus!! Have plenty of seats and area, great for weekend family gathering or just hanging out with friends for a very chilled and lay back holidays.

Google
Their coffee quality has really dropped. They used to be incredible doing wonderful art on the top. Now everything is just dumped together and tastes bitter. The breakfast sandwich still slaps.

Went in at around 9:30am for a take out 8oz matcha latte. The attending baristas were not hospitable at all, no smiles not any greeting. The matcha latte tasted like warm milk. Latte not well blended and very little matcha taste. There are plenty of coffee places in downtown Redmond now. I don't think I will ever go back to this one.

I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon Victor's Celtic Coffee Roasters! Not only did I enjoy a delicious breakfast, but I was also impressed by the coffee shop's commitment to inclusivity and community involvement. By hiring autistic young students, Victor's Coffee is making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities. This honorable initiative truly sets them apart. Kudos to the team for their dedication to creating a supportive environment. Congratulations on this wonderful endeavor! 🎉 If you're looking for a coffee shop that not only serves great coffee but also gives back to the community, look no further than Victor's Celtic Coffee Roasters!

Google
Cozy Find!! This coffee shop stands out as a cozy spot with a unique setup. During my visit, I found the staff to be friendly, and the menu offered some interesting options. The Irish Nudge and Mandarin drink were enjoyable, and they also have basic pastries to complement your coffee. It's a decent spot to grab a drink and relax while exploring the city. Price is $$$$ - 2 coffees + 1 muffin for $18

Definitely worth checking out if you like coffee. It's a quaint little establishment with indoor and outdoor tables. Sometimes they have a musician playing guitar. Yummy bakery items and sandwiches available as well. Support your local coffee establishments. There really aren't enough of them around anymore. It's hard for them compete with the big corporate joints but the coffee at these local places is typically much much better.

Google
Love that they don’t have WiFi so community and conversation are encouraged. Only ever had their beverages, but they are always great. A cabin-like homey feel. Great for meeting up with friends or for a quiet spot to sip on coffee or hot chocolate. A local coffee shop with a lot of heart.

Edit: I have revisited a couple of times after this. The first experience was definitely a one off. The coffee is great, actually one of the better ones amongst the local coffee shops near by. The latte s are great and so are the dark coffees. Old review below: The only reason I give it a 3 star is because of the coffee quality. To admit I've only had there once and it was the zebra latte or something like that. Maybe my experience was one off but I'll update review when I have again. The atmosphere is very nice to work and the service is good. Nothing to complain about.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 19 years and this is still my favorite cup of regular drip in the pacific northwest. i love the new ownership (although there was something charming any the old cash only days). also the sandwiches here are excellent. they're also one of the few coffee shops with heavy cream as a drink option
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
With new ownership comes a renewed commitment to excellent coffee and a whole new customer experience. No longer do you have an ogre come in with bluster, yank coffee cups out of customer's hands and generally cause havoc and mayhem in his own establishment. There's still no Wi-Fi (which is just fine by me, so you have to talk to your fellow coffee-lovers) and a wonderful father/daughter team running the place makes this a perfect place to slow down and sip a cup of coffee made from beans roasted just days or hours before. This has all of the charm it ever did without the black cloud of a seemingly bi-polar ogre/owner.

Yelp
I come here once in a while over here they have fresh orange juice. The customer service is really great. They don't do Wi-Fi, which is great. They want people to talk instead of just being on their phones. They have outdoor patio and they have fresh bake pastries, which are delicious.

Yelp
Stopped by Victors for a mandarin mocha before work. The service was fast and friendly and the coffee was good. I would not hesitate to return when I'm back in town!

Yelp
Classic coffee shop with great coffee, service, seating areas, pastries and food, and parking. Been going here for 15 years and it gets better and better. They roast coffee beans for sale, too.
google avatar

Jinny C.

Yelp
The thing I found weird is there are no prices listed anywhere for anything. It's just a guess to how much you'll end up paying. I also ordered a bread pudding and they offered to warm it up, but it ended up just being barely room temperature. That being said, the bread pudding is tasty and I recommend getting it with your coffee. Their coffee menu leans very sweet, but we ordered an americano and cappuccino which was standard. The cafe has a cozy ambiance and there is space inside for seating. Small parking lot in front and bathroom inside.

Yelp
Such a quaint coffee shop and something about this place just keeps me coming back! Coffee is pretty good- like most coffees you get, some are phenomenal, some are average. The breakfast sandwich was surprisingly good, this last time was my first time getting it. Lots of seating, friendly staff, and a homey vibe. There are lots of coffee shops in the area, but each time I'm over this way I always stop here!

Yelp
This place is a weekly visit for me. Best ambiance, service, and value. Very good quality coffee too.

Yelp
My family and I can always count on victors for excellent coffee and pastries in Redmond. It's our favorite place to enjoy each others company and a well made latte. The baristas are efficient and consistent and the fireplace inside offers for a cozy environment.

Yelp
I spotted Victor's online when searching up coffee shops, and I was excited to see a celtic café. There were several parking spots available right outside the business. The door was propped open, so I went on in. It was not too busy; there were 3 or 4 tables of people quietly sipping their drinks and no line at the register. I waited at the counter to place my order, and the two workers kept glancing sideways at me but ultimately kept working. They did not greet me or ask me to please wait a moment. One barista even looked me up and down, made an annoyed face, and walked to the back while saying, "Yeah, somebody should close that front door." For context, I was just standing silently and smiling. Eventually, I got service, but there was no apology or explanation for the wait. The other workers, who I assume were back-of-house, were fine since they offered me a table and brought me my order. No complaints about the food or venue. I want to like this place because the interior is so charming, but alas, the rude batistas make me feel unwelcome here.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with large variety of yummy homemade pastries. Super cute decor inside also. A very unique coffee shop worth visiting!

Yelp
Service - 4/5 Ambience - 5/5 Coffee - 4/5 Loved the ambience. It has a retro vibe and has some great corner spots that serve as good reading spots. I went early in the morning so it wasn't very crowded and indeed very bright and serene. The staff were friendly and the order was quick. The coffee was lukewarm although I specifically asked for extra hot Overall a good coffee spot and one of those spots that I would like to come back again

Yelp
We've been a customer here for 20 years and today was a major disappointment. They should change the name because they aren't doing "Victor" a good service. Victors was a place you could go and enjoy a great cup of coffee, friendly customers and good food (during all hours of operation). They would deliver the food to your table and chat with you. Today was horrible. At 10:30 their food case was empty, the place is cluttered, and our coffee was just ok, not to mention way more expensive since than it used to be. $17 for two jumbos used to be about $12. They didn't ask for our name just said "we'll yell out the coffee". That doesn't work well if there is more than one of the same order and you're sitting in the dining area. My coffee was made to go because they didn't have any more clean cups. The guy taking our order just wanted to take the order and be done. No more bell ringing for tips and no more friendly conversation (we were the only people in line). Victor you should have never sold - we won't be back, this place changed for the worst....such a shame.

Yelp
I'm not keen on being negative to a place, however, the food is mid and the service is typically worse (depending on which day you go). As a big fan of rustic aesthetics, art, and historical attributes to a place the ambiance is what keeps me going there once in a while. Would I recommend this place? Maybe for a quick stop for exclusively coffee. Otherwise, there are other coffee shops nearby that i'd rather recommend.

Yelp
First time patron. Overall this has potential to be a great spot to catch up on gossip or have a date. Decor: On a "Good, Better, Best" scale the front room is firmly 'best' but the back room is 'good'. The cafe is a cross between industrial and homey: with handmade seasonal decorations displayed amongst the rustic wood beams and antique coffee paraphernalia. A poster wall of upcoming indie shows, gigs and exhibits decorates the pickup area which wraps around the right. To the left of the register is a nook with personal seating and a great view of the cafe. In general the front of the cafe is more 'instagram ready' but past the roasting room, tastefully enclosed in glass, is a 'open concept' area where a collection of local fine art is displayed on rotation. The back room is larger, still homey with hewn wood beams and light filtering in through vintage windows but feels a little sparsely decorated. The seating is community center style with a large table (seats 8+), great for groups, and a number of miscellaneous tables on the outskirts nearby outlets (good for catching up on email if you don't mind the chatter). Food & drink: On a "Good, Better, Best" scale this is good. The macchiato was a little burnt or over extracted but the presentation was cute and most people would be happy with it. The almond mocha Rocha was similar, the flavor is there but not a wildly unique. The apple pastry was good and the price was right- get it warmed if possible. My partner enjoyed the scone but as it came in plastic wrap (perfect for 'to-go') but it should have automatically come with a plate because our drinks were 'for here'. Service: On a "Good, Better, Best" scale this is good. The staff are presentable and generally courteous. We stated we were first time patrons and asked for their recommendations, which we got, but didn't really receive much else as far as etiquette for empty cups etc. Again, the pastry and scone are great but are missing utensils and a plate; Apologies if the customer is supposed to request a plate or utensils, it is not immediately evident and we would've appreciated the guidance as to not mess the beautiful table. It may be because they were prepping for another rush we did not know about but the workers were a little impatient with our pace for selection. For reference, we ordered and it was not at a busy time (no one in line behind us, mid-week, and it was around 10:30-11am between rushes). Price: $$. On a "Good, Better, Best" scale this is good. Food and drink are priced fine to be a treat, but I'd expect it to be a little pricey if you're looking for "commute coffee" or have large orders. We had 1 Large Specialty Latte (with milk substitute) $8/ea a traditional macchiato about $6. and 2 pastries - it was about $30 including a small tip for staff. Value: On a "Good, Better, Best" scale this is good. I feel the presentation for the drinks and food needs to be elevated to better fit the price.

Yelp
Love this place . Great sandwiches and pastries and of course coffee is awesome. Staff is friendly and helpful. This spot has a unique vibe, it's a feel good one. Lots of seating , indoor and outdoor. They do have live music so be sure to check their events.

Yelp
Used to be fantastic. Used to be. Long time customer (20 years+) New ownership has dramatically changed the product, service and ambiance. In the worst possible ways. Pass.

Yelp
I'm not sure what is celtic about this place, but I love the space and vibe. This is the sort of coffee shop that hangs local art on the walls, has tons of advertising that local and independent vendors stick up on the walls, and where you can easily hang out for several hours. I love community coffee shops like this, and they get a five for ambiance, service, and the baked goods. Coffee is not so great, but suits those who like their roasts burnt. I prefer light to medium roasts.

Yelp
Been going to Victors for a long time now. I order the same thing each time. A grande snickers. It's been, $6, $7 and now today $8. That's way too much. Not sure I could find anywhere else in Redmond for a drink that size of any kind to be that expensive. And lack of consistency in pricing. I'd like to know going in what I'm going to be paying. Very sad.

Yelp
Employees were friendly and helpful. Service was quick. There's a sign that says "no wifi, talk to each other like back in 1995" (luckily we didn't bring a laptop to work) Place had lots of character - very unique Coffee was really good! (Coming from a coffee snob ) Next time I visit, I will definitely be trying their blueberry scone. * local firefighter spot * -from a Redmond FF spouse

Yelp
Wonderful, local neighborhood coffee shop. We have been coming here regularly for years and are always pleased with the service, the ambiance and of course the coffee! It's cozy and warm in the colder months with a fireplace and lots of seating. Love the working coffee roaster in the middle of the cafe! Really gives it a cool vibe. Also lots seating on the outdoor porch with the awning during sunny days. Feels good to support a local business rather than a chain. You'll often see the owner there making coffee and food and roasting coffee. She is really lovely and puts her heart and soul into Victor's. This place also support local artists with new artwork on the walls every month. Gives artists a spot to share their art which is also often for sale. The caliber of the artwork displayed is high. The coffee is excellent! Along with a regular latte, mocha, cappuccino, matcha, they also have several signature drinks that you can choose from as well. I've tried almost all of them and they are really good. A nice variety to the regular latte. I included some of the selections in the photos. Mostly I go for the coffee but we have also been happy with the panninis and pasteries. There are lots of choices for food so it's a good place for lunch or a snack with your coffee. You can also buy the beans for your own home espresso and they have lots of different roasts to choose from. I don't have a machine myself, but I've given Victor's beans as gifts and the recipients have been very pleased. Love this place!

Yelp
Came here in a working day afternoon. Love the place. Besides coffee, the bread pudding was good.

Yelp
Drink 1: jungle Jane, triple shot. Made as ordered, fine but nothing special. No whip which was a bummer. Drink 2: tall snickers, half sweet with almond milk. Made full sweetness (sickly sweet), doesn't taste like almond milk. Lemon loaf: good, nothing crazy Barista (tall older woman with beanie and short blondeish bob) was not friendly and we did not ask for a remake because of this. She was wearing leggings and a crop top, and because the leggings were ruched around the butt, she had her asscrack peeking out and even more so whenever she bent to get to the fridge. There's no way that's not a health code issue. Food: 3/5 Drinks: 1/5 Order taker: friendly Barista: unfriendly First time here in over a year, does not inspire a revisit any time soon.

Yelp
Great gathering place; I always get the tomato soup and sandwich. They were patient and kind even with our large group of 8!

Caolan O.

Yelp
Came in today for the 2nd time. I had a so-so experience on the first one, but thought that might be an anomaly. Nope. My order was a 20oz drip coffee. It was weak with no flavour. Truckstop coffee or kcups yield more flavour. They remade it thinking it might just be old, but no. It tasted the same. Costa Rican coffee was used. They put it in a 28oz cup(I think) . It was much bigger, but unfortunately more garbage juice is still garbage juice. For food I had a cheesy brunch burrito. despite being toasted and hot, the cheese and potato inside was still cold, cheese unmelted. And some kind of uncooked chard leaf? Not sure what that was. A crappy 2nd visit is a pattern, not an anomaly.

Yelp
Go to place for a morning drink on a weekday! Cozy coffee shop with vintage atmosphere. It is small but I like the layout and decoration. I think it would be a nice place to bring my laptop and work but unfortunately they do not have wifi. The drinks are good. I usually order the hot chocolate. I have tried some hot chocolates that are very sweet but the sweet level on this one is on point!

Yelp
I stopped by Victor's Celtic Coffee since I was in the area and I have never been so blown away by a coffee shop! It's so close to RTC, just a short walk away, so I love that it's in the vicinity. I decided to get the Irish Nudge since it contains Irish Cream - everything else you can just get at a normal coffee shop, right? I asked for whipped cream and was blown away that it was CHOCOLATE whipped cream! Amazing! The Irish Nudge in general was so good, lots of chocolate and hazelnut and super creamy, as expected. I loved how sweet it was but I will say I barely tasted the coffee (fine by me). I would love to come back often, but I don't live near Redmond... maybe every time I'm in downtown :)

Yelp
I came here for a quick chai a few minutes after it opened. The baristas were still getting the place set up and ready for business. They were apologetic and tried to finish what they were doing to help me. The lady took my order, and I had maybe a five minute wait. I spent that time looking around to see what was there. The place has a lot of cozy nooks and tables to hang out or work. It has a lovely warm environment, and I can picture it being a popular hang out place during peak hours. I ordered a chai latte to go. I have to admit; it was pretty mediocre. I'm not sure if it's because I was the first customer or the barista wasn't ready to make drinks yet, but my drink was mostly milk and little chai. Since it was mostly milk, it was lukewarm, and I had asked for it to be served hot. I was already headed towards the highway, so I wasn't able to turn around. I'm giving this place 4/5 , because the ambiance is great but the drink was a little underwhelming. I want to try this place again, maybe a little later in the day though.

Drew C.

Yelp
I'm sad to post this review because I've been a customer and a fan of this place since the 1990's. I don't work in Redmond anymore so I try to stop in here when I can for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Today was a big disappointment. Both employees acted like they would rather be anywhere but working there and the sandwich was about 1/2 the size of the old ones. Bummer to see this place slide. Sandwich and a self serve drip coffee was $15.00. Lots of other options out there for mediocre overpriced food and grumpy service.

Dj S.

Yelp
Awesome coffee. Maybe even the best I've had around the area. I love how cozy the inside of the shop feels.
google avatar

Maryam A.

Yelp
I've always walked past this place, mostly because I never knew that it was actually open. They serve fresh roasted coffee (you can literally see them roasting the coffee instead the store!) and selection of tea. There's also a limited range of baked goods and sandwiches if you wanted something to snack on. There's a lot of seating if you wanted to have coffee with friends. I had the Irish Nudge, which was surprisingly not overly sweet, and the Nanaimo bar which was overwhelmingly sweet (they were really nice when I asked them about what was in the dessert). The reason for rating is because the coffee was lukewarm (even though I collected it as soon as it was made) and how blindingly sweet the dessert was.

Bryan T.

Yelp
Great service and delicious coffee and muffins! Thank you for creating such a wonderful environment.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Hmm... I have seen previous reviews complaining of service and I have to agree. We stood in line and waited for about 10 minutes with no one saying hello or addressing us. We stood in front of the counter waiting and unsure of what was going on. Nobody made any attempt to have a conversation after we said hello. Finally, an older man behind the counter and another employee were discussing how their WIFI is down. They told another customer who already had their drinks if they could come BACK later in the day to pay.... They did not make any attempt to say hello to us, offer a solution or at least acknowledge the rapidly growing line. This experience really lacked any kind of customer service or reasonable manners. Disappointed.

Yelp
The coffee shop is a nice, funky space, with artwork by local artists on display, so on one of my many visits here, I took down the posted contact information for local artists to connect and potentially get their art displayed. My friend, whose work has been accepted into juried shows, emailed the contact and heard ... nothing. I stopped in again today, and since I noticed there was new artwork on display, I inquired with the staff about who my friend should contact. I was told, the artists are booked a year out. Okay, but that wasn't my question. Let's say my friend, a local and recognized artist, would like to show her art here in a year, who should she contact? The staff member grudgingly offered and email address, which she typed into my phone so I could be sure it was correct and ... "the recipient does not exist." Thanks, that was really helpful. I know what you're thinking: that's a pretty rude way to treat a customer, but I'm not an artist, what's their coffee like? Since you're asking this question in the greater Seattle area, allow me to assure you that you have better options, and lots of them. Today I ordered a vanilla latte, and it tasted of neither vanilla nor espresso- it was downright watery. On a recent visit, I had a similar experience with the latte I ordered, and worse, the bag of house-roasted beans I purchased wouldn't brew into a beverage that tasted of anything other than mud when I got it home. I tried, I really did. I believe in supporting local businesses and go out of my way to support local businesses that in turn support local artists - and my belief that this was one of those businesses kept me from posting a deservedly poor review on the quality of their coffee. But there is something decidedly dishonest here, in my opinion, so I'll take my coffee dollars elsewhere and suggest you do the same. This is Seattle, for crying out loud - there are too many good options out there to waste the money here. Editing to add: This review was only up three days when I received a profanity-laden, insult-filled message from a photoless "new user." Avoid this place!

Yelp
Decided to stop and grab a coffee since I walk by it almost every day. Disappointed it took me this long to go. Coffee was great, good menu looked great. Nice atmosphere!

Jesse B.

Yelp
Waited 20mins for a bagel with cream cheese on the side that they forgot. The drinks aren't good and the environment was chaotic and they kept forgetting about peoples orders. Not going back sorry
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. They make one of the best cortados I have ever had. They were playing 80s music.

Nicole J.

Yelp
First time and last time. Was excited to try a new place. During checkout they don't take your name then you just go sit. After waiting forever and seeing how dusty and run down the place is, I happened to see possibly my iced coffee being made. When I went to their crowded pickup area they yell out my coffee item. Then they sloppily sprayed some whipped cream on top and I had to ask for my pastry. The gentleman in front us didn't even get his. My dried up like Costco pastry and coffee was 17$ before tip! The most expensive place I've been in the area. Oh yah no prices on anything?
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
Service: 5 Food: 5 Coffee: 2 I think it's awesome that they roast their own beans here, but my partner and I both got coffee (them a snickers, me a cold brew) and both of our drinks were fairly subpar. Maybe the beans were overroasted? Otherwise, service was pretty good, and the breakfast sandwich was downright tasty. If I ever happen by again, I'd much rather snag a bite (and maybe try out a tea) rather than order the coffee again.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
I totally wanted to love this place but I just can't, The coffee itself is about average. Not great but not terrible. They do have a nice menu and some very interesting flavors. The place looks small on the outside but once you step it it's rather large. Although it was a bit crowded when we came in (1pm) the place still had the feel of being cozy and homey. Staff was neither polite nor rude just doing there job. All in all I would not come back or recommend this place. Going out to eat or even just for a coffee has a lot to do with the experience and this place was more of a let down. I see it almost every day and was happy to try it but I walked away with disappointment. The price is just a hair about the big chain coffee joints.

Yelp
I've been a customer at Victor's for a good 20+ years, but I have to say that more recently it has left me very disappointed. Just a couple of suggestions for the staff - make eye contact with the customer, smile, and if you see someone standing at the counter for an ungodly amount of time, ask them what they're waiting for and work on getting it to them in a timely manner. I waited for 20 to 30 minutes for a cup of decaf coffee today. I had to ask someone THREE times before I got one cup. You guys can do better.

Alec M.

Yelp
This isn't just my favorite cafe in Redmond it is my favorite cafe in Washington period. They have great beans you can buy the bag at a fair price. Their lates are awesome and the staff is friendly and quick. Not sure where the other reviews of service are coming from. Also I love the general vibe inside the coffee shop

Samuel M.

Yelp
I just recently went to this coffee shop and bought a Snickers coffee and the owner accused me of stealing the things you put on crocs and when I emptied my pockets in front of her she didn't even apologize for accusing me and then she bad mouthed me to her employee
google avatar

Elie B.

Yelp
Decided to give Victor's another try after the owner response. I gotta say, I wasn't really thrilled with the service this time either. Yes, the cranky old guy was gone, but in is place we're a few folks that that just hung around chatting behind the counter, finally got around to taking our order, but some how managed to warm up when it was time for me to pay and tip. Not cool.

Yordan P.

Yelp
Probably the worst latte I have ever had. Very watery and had the texture of drip coffee with added creamer. I just dumped the whole thing after two sips. Absolutely disappointing because the interior of the place is nice.

Yelp
I came here with a friend in the later part of the afternoon for coffee, and enjoyed myself. it was not to busy and we received our coffee quickly. Customer service was friendly and our table was a nice place to sit and catch up. The owner has signs posted that there is no wi-fi and that talking among friends is encouraged.

Yelp
Great coffee, good food, nice vibes. Definitely a go-to place to have a nice breakfast/brunch/coffee with friends. No wifi so don't expect to sit for a while & do work/study. There's an outdoor patio with a few tables as well as some additional small outdoor tables. Lots of seating inside. There's a parking lot in the back so usually it's not a problem finding a spot.

Yelp
The coffee is fine, but the owners, Joan and Andrea are toxic. At a certain point, it's difficult to separate the people from the coffee. They appear inexperienced, yet lack self-awareness which shows up in the way that I have seen them treat the people that work for them. They clearly don't understand how to manage people or run a business professionally. Instead, they rely on a system of blame, intimidation, and outright aggressive behavior to demonstrate their "authority". Which is a shame because I've been a customer of the place for quite a long time, but will have to find my coffee and beans elsewhere. EDIT: The owner followed up through a third party to ask me to "relax on the reviews! Move on" - going through a third party to complain about a review is probably a good example of the issues I identified earlier.

Yelp
I get it. No wi-fi to facilitate conversation. But it would be nice to have the option. The coffee was nothing remarkable and was rather burnt/watery.
