Actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco Visit Chicago’s New Dine-In Movie Theater | Eater Chicago

"Tucked into the same building and open to the public, Video Vortex is a bar with cocktails and 32 beer taps; I found it offers a playful, film-inflected menu and bar program. Tim League said he developed a few drinks using Jeppson’s Malört (he’s not a fan of drinking it straight) and favors a malört old fashioned, though his personal recipes don’t appear on the menu. At the bar there’s a drink called “Save Ferris” made with malört and an orange slice. Video Vortex’s hours are: open 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; noon to 2 a.m. Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday." - Ashok Selvam

Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville To Open First Chicago Location | Eater Chicago

"A standalone cocktail bar inside the new Wrigleyville theater that opens Friday, January 27 at 3519 N. Clark Street, it’s designed to evoke late-20th-century American video rental stores with art installations and a strong nostalgic vibe. The space will offer free borrowing from an enormous media collection—more than 11,000 DVDs and Blu-rays plus about 200 VHS tapes—and will rent DVD and VHS players for a fee. The concept, which has outposts in Brooklyn, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Raleigh, pairs craft cocktails with cinephile-focused memorabilia and lending." - Naomi Waxman

I don’t know whether it was the lack of greeting or lack asking what I wanted when I walked in or the fact that when I decided to enjoy the act of walking down and enjoying some of the old movie poster one of the employees, Robert, decided to agreesively ask “what are you doing down here”. The lackluster response and reassurance from the cashier confirmed what I already knew in the first 2 minutes of being here. I wouldn’t let these employees run a lemonade stand in a starving community. Diabolical.

I’ve been really enjoying Alamo theaters Video Vortex since it opened in Wrigleyville a few months ago. I haven’t yet seen a movie inside but have been renting DVDs and taking them home to watch. It’s nostalgic, almost like a Blockbuster video store— and the rental is free of charge. I haven’t tried the food yet but you can order from your seat in the theater. The staff are all very friendly as well.

Place was dead on a Monday night. Only had one drink (margarita) and was rather good, but I feel the main attraction here is the atmosphere. Definitely want to take advantage of the video/vcr rentals in the future. I’m of an age that I’m the target demographic for a place like this. Curious how older/younger generations view it.

This is the fifth location in the country and the first one here. What's good about this place is you can rent movies for free. Ahh!

Yelp
Man I didn't even know that this place existed until October of this year. The Queen and I love seeing scary movies in October and discovered that the Alamo was showing a slew of them throughout the month. I had never heard of this establishment and would soon learn that they are other locations throughout the US. First let me say that it is located in the heart of Wrigleyville, so while there is street parking, you might not want to go there on a game day. The theater is on the 3rd floor. When you step off the elevator, you walk into a large open area with seats and there is a bar in the front. This is also where you check in. The Alamo has its own app, so you can just scan you tickets to get in. The lobby and hallway is filled with a lot of cool movies posters of old movies, a lot in foreign languages. There is also a section in the lobby where you can rent DVDs, if that is your thing. The theaters themselves are small, less than a 100 seats and I love that. The seats recline and have temperature controls. What sold me was the fact that I could order food and drink from the comfort of my seat. The menu is pretty solid. I have had the Royale with Cheese (Tillamook cheddar, beef patty, smoked bacon, caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato, lemon-garlic aioli, toasted seeded bun). This comes with fries and it was very good, fresh and hot. The Doctor and The Queen got the pizza and the quesadillas during the times we have gone, and both said it was good. They also loved the Churro Popcorn (fried churro pieces, popcorn, real clarified butter, tossed with a custom blend of cinnamon, sugar, maple, & vanilla). I am not a big fan of popcorn, so I can't speak on it beyond the pieces of churro I had, and those were great. I wish I could just get those whole instead. I love being able to get a bottle of bubbles while watching a movie. And they also have the sweeten bottomless ice tea. Cocktails are also pretty good according to The Queen. She also recommends, highly, the salted caramel shake. In the month of October, we came here five times to see Halloween movies. The Queen went back in November to see Five Nights at Freddie's and I may go back to see it with her. In December I am going there to see the new Willy Wonka movie. Hmmm, can you tell I like this place? In fact I like it so much I got a season pass that allows me to see two movies a day all month. Yeah I like this place

Yelp
Great beer selection albeit overpriced, good range of food choices, friendly service! Solid rotation of music and theming.
