Very cute mom and pop restaurant. It was very busy when we came for Sunday breakfast but the wait time went by fast. Good food! We will definitely have to try the huge cinnamon roll next time.

Weekends can get busy, and since it’s self-pay at the end, the line tends to build up but that’s all part of the charm. This cozy, family-run spot serves up generous portions and keeps the coffee flowing. The older ladies are incredibly sweet, and the servers stay friendly and attentive, even in the hustle. I found this place by chance while hunting for the best cinnamon roll and they delivered. It was soft, fluffy, and tasted freshly made, like it came straight from their own kitchen. It’s not your typical Broken Egg, Early Bird, or First Watch but it’s got a true family vibe that makes you feel right at home.

Google
Parking was hard to find, since it's a very popular place to dine in. Place was packed but we waited and were accommodated with a big table for our group. Food was delicious and staff friendly and helpful. Prices are average and you get alot of food for the money. Place is a local favorite.

Lovely! We stopped here on our way home from a road trip to see a concert. I ordered the country fried steak breakfast and my husband had 2 omelettes with hasbrowns. The "silver dollar" pancakes are as big as your hand! And they came wirh the cutest little individual syrup pitchers. The food was delicious! The hasbrowns crispy on the outside and my steak was crispy on the outside but tender enough inside to cut with a fork. Highly reccomend! Don't miss this one!

We’ve been coming to Vidlak’s for over 7 years, and it’s truly one of our absolute favorite spots in Omaha. It’s the place we always recommend to visiting friends and family—and for good reason. Everything on the menu is delicious. I especially love their sausage links (they’re unlike anything you typically find at other breakfast places), and their buttermilk pancakes, French toast, and cinnamon roll all hold a special place in my heart. The staff are usually so kind and helpful, and they always make my toddlers feel special and welcome—they really enjoy the attention! It’s a cozy, comforting little piece of home for us. That said, our most recent Sunday visit was unfortunately the worst experience we’ve had in all the years we’ve been coming. Our server was noticeably short with us from the beginning, but was very outgoing and warm with what appeared to be a few of her regulars. She took our order but didn’t check back even once until she dropped off the check. Thankfully, the staff running food and refilling coffee were wonderful—the gal going around topping off mugs was especially sweet and attentive. As always, the food was delicious, but I ended the meal feeling uneasy after finishing my coffee. My mug had been refilled several times throughout our visit, and only at the very last sip did I notice a piece of a pink sugar packet at the bottom—which I never use. It left me with the unpleasant assumption that my mug may not have been properly cleaned. Because of that, I’ll be taking a little break from Vidlak’s (and definitely from their coffee). But this one experience doesn’t erase years of amazing meals and memories. We’ll be back eventually—just hoping for the warm, welcoming service we’ve always known and loved.

Well, that was great! First visit. I had a Vidlak's burger and cottage cheese. The patty dwarfed the bun. Good diner fare and the price was right. Everyone working there was genuinely nice. Nebraskans rock.

New as of September 2024: added photos. Original review: Very large facility with many many tables. Touted as a breakfast cafe especially on the weekends. Bathrooms very large (one person). Coffee $1.99. Very few entrees under $9.99. Value Okay. Food okay. WiFi very good. Staff very friendly and cordial. Lady always coming around to fill coffee (EXCELLENT). Had the cinnamon roll - okay, but not impressed. :New menu Photos as of May 2025

Google
The whole place can be completely packed and you can still order your meal and have it at your table in 10-15 minutes TOPS! The portion sizes, quality, and variety of options are all genuinely great (and I’m personally not a small eater). The staff are always super polite, quick, and smiling! I would recommend this place to anyone, hands down.

Yelp
The third time was the charm in our attempt to have weekend breakfast at Vidlak's. We rolled out of bed early, hit the road by 7:45 and pulled up -- and into a parking space!!! -- just as the establishment opened at 8 (at which time there already was a line of 15-20 folks). Seat yourself, the sign said, and there was plenty of room. Its larger inside than youd think. The restaurant is in a long-established strip mall, but the restaurant interior was clean, bright, with high ceilings and plenty of room between tables. It appears there were quite a few regulars, sitting at their regular tables, with no need for menus as folks "already knew what they wanted." And guests greeted each other as well as sang happy birthday to a server. Coffee is hot, constantly (though not intrusively) refilled, and everyone is friendly. We started with a shared, gigantic cinnamon roll swimming in (sour cream?) icing. Pillowy soft and light, though probably not calorically, we stopped halfway through to leave room for our "real" breakfast. Just to get a basic feel for the place, we both had a standard bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. The bacon was cooked just right -- cooked all the way through with some flexibility remaining. The flavor was not the best, a light sense of smoke, but no real other flavor -- no sweetness, no saltiness. I was disappointed with that. Eggs were cooked just right for dipping with toast that actually was toasted, with a nice bit of butter without being soaked. And the star -- a healthy (size-wise ) serving of deliciously crispy hash browns. I could eat those all day! I highly recommend you try this place, but do some reconnaissance first to get an idea of just how popular it is. If you just show up some morning at 9, you might find an extremely long wait. (It's probably worth it, though.)

Yelp
This places jumps at meal times. It's quite popular with its regulars. I know Yelpers who are regulars. It's good cafe fare. Coffee is reasonable. Staff is good. Parking is a bit challenging, but achievable. It FEELS right for a cafe. Suits well for breakfast. Haven't tried lunch yet. We enjoyed it and will doubtless return.

Yelp
Vidlaks has been around forever. I remember eating here 25 years ago when I first moved to Omaha . It attracts a crowd so you may need to wait but tables turn over quickly. Wide variety of breakfast staples as well as omelets. Menu features more traditional breakfast items. Prices reasonable and service attentive!

Yelp
We brought our grandparents here and the food was outstanding. I had steak and eggs with hollandaise. Super Yummy. We never needed to ask for anything as there was always a server checking in and they have a lady who just goes around and fills coffee up. Such amazing service. Our grandparents have walkers and the place was a little packed on a Saturday morning, but the staff were so friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Sweet cute older restaurant. Really good service and nice staff. The omelette I got was stuffed and super moist. The pancakes were delicious as well. Is pretty busy though so expect a little bit of a wait.

Yelp
I ate here recently for the first time and had breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with extra gravy and pancakes. The place was bustling and busy at about 1030 on a Friday morning. Service was quick. The food came out quick and the taste was very good. A very simple Breakfast which to be honest is a nice change from all the other breakfast places that are out there now trying to be different and maybe too modern. A good simple place that's I'd like to try and do lunch at sometime too. Prices I thought were reasonable as well.

Yelp
I've been going to Brookside for 20 years, and every single time it lives up to the hype. We got there at 10:45am and they were packed. Waited for a 2 top for about 20 minutes, and loved watching the regulars and newbies come and go. Food was delicious, hot and filling! I've never had something on the menu I didn't enjoy. The waitstaff is wonderful, from those that have worked there for as long as we've been going, to the newer employees, they all have the same great attitude. Welcoming environment and a great place to grab some food on a Sunday morning!

Mona H.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday for breakfast and there was a long line so we were apprehensive at first. But it didn't take long at all to get seated! The servers and hosts were extremely nice and food was amazing!! It's hard to make perfectly crispy hash brown but somehow they do it. I got the western omelet and my friend got the traditional eggs Benedict!
google avatar

Ro M.

Yelp
Tasty food, diner style cafe. I had the french dip w/ mash potatoes, my husband had the gyro. It was really good. The wait staff was kind & helpful. The ambiance was clean, friendly and down to earth! They seem very busy, & we thought they're be a wait but we got seated right away! It's nice & big on the inside. Loved it!!

Yelp
Another year... Another great breakfast! We decided to bring my parents for a good breakfast and it did not disappoint... Everyone was pleased and walked out full. I can't remember what I ordered, but it was very good. I believe it was some type of veggie, potato, and cheese skillet thing. My boys went with cinnamon rolls and cinnamon roll French toast, and I will probably go that route next time instead of trying to eat healthy lol. Overall great price for all the food, and if you download the PinPoint app you can build up for discounts..

Yelp
Excellent breakfast spit in Omaha. Great service and excellent portion sizes. It was busier than usual, obviously for a Sunday morning. Waited about ten minutes to get seated. Rachel greeted me and took my order within minutes. The only downside is deciding what to order. Coming back again the SO.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Very home-like feel. Super packed but service was exceptional!!!

Yelp
Finally got a chance to check this place out. If you're looking for classic dinners food, this is it. They also have a bunch of unique combinations of omelets and skillets that I will have to try next time. The atmosphere reminds me of going to diners as a kid. My favorite part was the red chairs. If you know, you know. The service was great. Food was out so fast and was so fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food and warm welcoming staff. Steak was a little fatty and slightly over cooked but still had great flavor. Cinnamon roll melts in your mouth and the left over icing is perfect to dip the pancakes in.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and the food is always good. You might have to wait a bit on weekends but it's worth it.

Yelp
Organized, clean, well staffed and friendly. Very good breakfast and lunch spot. Decent prices and portions.

Yelp
We had driven past Vidlak's so many times but had never been in and when we finally went for breakfast, we were absolutely delighted with how yummy everything was but also disappointed it took us that long to try it! The parking lot is always packed even at 6 am during the week--but service is always prompt! I don't think I've had a single bad meal here and my personal favorite is their cinnamon roll--it's definitely my favorite one in Omaha! We've told so many friends about Vidlaks & each and every one of them has been thrilled with how delicious their meal was and how affordable as well! It reminds us of some places back home and it feels nostalgic in that way and makes our meals there that much more special!

Carla S.

Yelp
Great food at a reasonable price! I love their eggs Benedict and excellent hashbrowns.
google avatar

Derek M.

Yelp
We've been here two times now for breakfast, and both times I've bought steak and eggs. The steak is always cooked perfectly with great flavor. My over-medium eggs are cooked just the way I like them as well. This place is always busy, but the staff is quick and you get your food in a very timely manner.
google avatar

Yelp
Vidlak's is perfect. It's simple. It has great food. It has great service. They know how to get people in for breakfast or lunch. It's local, local, local. By far, most of our visits have been in a Sunday morning always trying to beat the church crowd. The menu selections are wide ranging. They're affordable. It's never disappointing!! We typically get the Hungry Man which gets you three eggs, three bacon, three sausages, hash browns, and three pancakes. Enough to provide a Monday morning breakfast too!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
vidlak's hits the spot every. single. time. it is the perfect simple, down home breakfast that anyone & everyone loves. plus, they make extra crispy bacon perfectly & have sourdough toast :) AND it doesn't break the bank!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Do you remember going to a small town diner for breakfast and they give you amazing service with a steady flavor and variety of foods? This is the place!! Their brunch menu is vast ranging from the basic eggs, bacon, and toast, to lunch options like burgers, chicken, and soups. I ordered the breakfast burrito and was very happy with the choice as it had a lot of eggs and cheese, which I love in a good breakfast burrito. I also had a sweet tooth that day and wanted a blueberry pancake, so I a la carted one and it was worth every penny! And calorie. We came on a Sunday around 1230, which I don't recommend as it's packed from post church goers. But I imagine this place is consistently busy with the way they conduct business. Very happy with the place and would definitely come back!
google avatar

Makenzie L.

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM, okay maybe not so hidden as everytime I drive by the parking lot is busting at the seams but Vidlak's offers home cooking, fast and cheap but that does not influence the quality or taste. They make you feel right at home with great hospitality and a huge menu that you can customize and make your own ideal breakfast. I can't recommend it enough please don't be intimidated by the line as they will get you right in sat and fed within the blink of an eye! Top new comfort place!

Yelp
I had only heard great things about this place and I have to agree, It's a really great placed. We were greeted and seated quickly. My only gripe about Vidlak's is the seating. The rooms are not small, there are plenty of tables and a lot of room. So why sit everyone on top of one another. I know it is probably to help with the clean up and less distance for the servers, but one thing I dislike about dining out is people and their lack of respect and the fact that everyone talks over everyone else until it seems like there is no use having a conversation at all. I would prefer at least one table between us this morning. I was excited about the German Potato pancakes. I chose for them to accompany my Cattleman's Benedict. The cattleman's is a New York strip cooked how you like it. I asked for a rare preparation and the folks in the kitchen delivered my Benedict was Phenomenal. The potato pancakes came with a sour cream packet and a small (but appropriate size) portion of apple sauce and they were AWESOME. Crispy on the outside and had delicious warm texture on the inside. We also ordered the chicken fried chicken and chose the pancakes to go along. The sausage gravy was out of this world tasty and there was decent amount too. The pancakes tasted good and seemed to melt in the mouth. It was all so dang good. Our server was super, the water and tea glasses were kept full and she checked on us regularly. I cant wait to go back for lunch.

Rachael T.

Yelp
Delicious food! The staff is very helpful and we got in and out very quickly! It was a nice place to sit down and have breakfast!
google avatar

DT T.

Yelp
This is the place you go when you want a down home midwestern cafe/diner meal. The menu/prices/service are consistent every. single. time. It's not the kind of place that had avocado toast, green juice or bottomless mimosas for 'brunch'. But they also aren't going to charge you $14 for a plate of eggs and hash browns. The employees seem to be local high school/long time servers. It's kind of like your neighborhood corner spot where everyone actually smiles and bedhead is acceptable along with the after church crowd. I went with a buffalo chicken salad (grilled not fried) and got a healthy side of blue cheese dressing. Quick friendly and just wanted what I wanted In and out in an hour
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Great service, neighborhood diner atmosphere! Food was hot & tasty, but a breakfast & lunch joint.
google avatar

Thomas S.

Yelp
This is one of the best places in Omaha for breakfast and lunch. The close at 1:45 so get here early. The food is amazing, the staff is amazing and the food is the best ever.

Elisabeth M. G.

Yelp
I stopped by to try this restaurant's breakfast on the recommendation of a friend since I was in the area. Despite the excellent service of my waitress, I was greatly disappointed. Perhaps it's a difference in my palate with regard to their cooking. I ordered the Omaha omelette with hash browns and pancakes. The omelette looked perfectly fluffy but instead of enjoying broccoli florets there were broccoli stems in the omelette, very little cheese and no seasoning I could taste. The hash browns were greasy with no distinct crust or buttery insides and what bothered me the most were the pancakes. The pancakes were razor thin instead of thick cakes and the maple syrup didn't taste good hot. I am sorry to write such a negative review. However, I will give the place a second chance and go try their lunch menu.
google avatar

Natasha S.

Yelp
I've been here several times and tried different things and still seem to be underwhelmed with the food. At best the food is average and like most popular breakfast places in Omaha, I always get there right when they open.. service is good and the employees are friendly, but on the fence if I'll ever go back again.

Carmine C.

Yelp
My lady and I went in for lunch, and the food was spectacular as was the service. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was a bright airy feeling in the room. Cleanliness is a big thing for us, and you can tell they cared about their appearance. Highly recommended, and we will be back again for sure.

Cara K.

Yelp
Wonderful food; fast turnaround; such a pleasant wait staff. I look forward to going back.
google avatar

Larry T.

Yelp
Sue and I stopped in today after a Doc's visit. Never been but heard lots about it. Coffee was hot and never ending. Service was quick and outstanding. Portions were too big for both of us. Sue had her usual eggs, toast, hash browns and sausage links. She said it was very good. I had Denver Omelet. Packed with onions and peppers. I thot the menu said "Dollar Sized" pancakes. Came out more like "Pizza Pan" size. Huge. Yeah, when in the neighborhood, will go back
google avatar

Madeline W.

Yelp
We arrived at possibly one of the busiest times (Saturday late morning) and only waited about 20 minutes for our party of 2. Our server was prompt and friendly! The breakfast was warm and tasted like grandma made it. Definitely returning soon!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Vidlak's is a staple in our selection of breakfast food places. Staff is all seasoned and knows exactly what questions to ask to get your order perfect and they also make some great suggestions. It's generally pretty busy there on the weekends, but they have fast turnover so you'll be seated in no time. Menu has sweet breakfasts (my favorite in the cinnamon roll French toast), savory breakfasts, lunch, and a la carte options. Great pricing for the quality and the portion size. This place is not fancy by any means but it's affordable and delicious. They are able to accommodate larger groups of people as well. Went there with 7 adults and two babies and we were sat with no issue.

Kyler M.

Yelp
They let me bring a fork home for my lucky band utensil set. These are random words because i need 85 characters to post a review.

Richard H.

Yelp
Great food for the price. Great ambiance for a breakfast spot, almost seemed like a small town restaurant. Had an omelette and silver dollar pancakes. Omelette was good, silver dollar pancakes were great. Service was good. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Holly N.

Yelp
As always, great service, great food and they always get you in fast even on weekend mornings! Place is always clean with a good atmosphere. Sweetest people work there! Highly recommend trying out Vidlak's!
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
It's good. Not great. Quick and very casual. Chicken fried steak and potato pancakes are solid along with pancakes. Alacarte menu is pricy for what it is.

Dick C.

Yelp
It's a great place. My grandson and I were very happy with the quality of the food and the obvious care factor that the owners have ingrained in the staff.

Mike S.

Yelp
I was there recently and had the chicken fried steak special. For a local restaurant that gets great reviews I was expecting something homemade. Unfortunately this was not the case. The chicken fried steak was an out of the bag food service product, canned vegetables and instant potatoes. It was not bad, just was expecting more. It seemed like something you can get at Village Inn. The service was very good and the food came out quick. I would go back and try something else, but for chicken fried steak I will stick with Shirley's.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Folks if you want great food and fair pricing this is your place! I've only had breakfast there twice but was waited on very quickly and the breakfast came out very quickly also!
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Everything you'd expect from a diner breakfast! Good servers. Solid food. Generous portions. Reasonable prices. Why the 4*? Their checkout process is a hot mess. We waited in line for over 5 minutes to get to the register. Time to update the process or add a second register.
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
First the good - coffee is refilled often, friendly staff Bad- food . Haven't been to this establishment for a long time , I knew why , but decided to give it just the one more try. We got seated quickly even though it was busy. Coffee refilled often. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it came out promptly . One look at it and I knew I would hate it . Gravy looks like a bunch of rabbit turds are floating in it . Scrapped them off and decided to give the meat a try. Nope , flavorless and honestly close tot he worst ones I ever had. Took a few bites and I was done . Eggs were eggs , cooked correctly , hash-browns were mediocre at best. Toast was fine . Coffee was a bit bitter but the highlight of the meal, staff was very friendly which is always a plus .
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
My wife and I have joined the ranks of regulars here for breakfast on Saturdays. They make great omelettes, scrambles, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and French toast; you name it, if it's a breakfast standard, they serve it and serve it well. We've never been disappointed in the service, either. The wait staff is prompt and friendly without being intrusive. Coffee comes around frequently, and it's good coffee so you don't mind getting refills. Ruth and Jan at the hostess stand take good care of you getting in and checking out. You'll enjoy the people and the food when you're here. Put it on your list.
google avatar

Ciara S.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place for a while and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I had an omelette (created my own) that came with a side of hash browns. The omelette was packed full of ingredients and the hash browns were cooked to perfection, nice and crispy! I upgraded my side of toast or pancakes to the cinnamon roll french toast. It was amazing, the warm frosting on top was drool worthy. The service was phenomenal and the food came out within minutes after ordering. It was so quick! Even for being a Saturday afternoon.
google avatar

Kristi C.

Yelp
Really good Saturday morning breakfast! It was about a 10 minute wait for a table at 11am. The place was busy, but not completely full. The service was excellent and fast! I got the steak and eggs and subbed the cinnamon roll French toast for an up charge. Both were excellent! I didn't expect much from the steak at a breakfast joint, but another yelp picture drew me in! the steak was tender and cooked medium rare just like i ordered it. The seasoning was really good too. For a $13 meal (plus the up charge) it was excellent. The hash browns were great, crisp on top and less crisp on the bottom. The eggs were cooked right. The cinnamon roll French toast was very sweet. It had ample frosting. I could only eat about half of it because this was a very large meal. But I would have it again today! I will be back! My only complaint was the long line to checkout. There were about 5 people in front of me. Also the floors near the bathroom were slick. They need a deep cleaning.
google avatar

Dawn Q.

Yelp
Best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. Even ordered two to go and had the next morning for breakfast at my hotel! Great service and food! And the cinnamon rolls were so large you can definitely split!
