Vidorra translates to "the good life".
With a Main Event and Epic Waters indoor water park just around the corner, Vidorra is easy to find in Grand Prairie. It shares the parking lot with the Hilton Garden Inn so there's plenty of parking I believe there's also underground parking as well. I don't know exactly when they opened, but everything looked beautiful and clean. There's seating outside under large yellow umbrellas to shield you from the heat. When you walk in, you almost feel like you're in a tropical forest with plants and foliage abound. We were there for lunch and their large wide windows let in plenty of light and provided a nice view of the beautiful lake nearby. We didn't sit there but apparently there is rooftop seating and I bet the view from up there is even better. I understand that in the evenings, Vidorra turns into a night club. I can believe that with the huge bar that was on the ground floor.
It wasn't busy on this Friday so our 5 top was seated right away. What we thought was rain indoors was AC condensation dripping on us. Our server helped us move to a new table nearby. What was interesting was that while we ate, they still seated another party at that same table.
They have a large and varied menu which covered everything including sopas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas. With a full bar and specialty drinks, their prices are reflective of them being an "upscaled" Mexican restaurant. They also have "street" tacos with trompo beef and pork. I recently learned of how trompo style cooking is the where meats are skewered vertically, cooked and the meat thinly shaved before serving. My friend Ken who recommended this place, also recommended the Verde. It is one of their Molcajete Bowls. Ingredients are cooked in a bowl made from volcanic rock. It is heated to 400 degrees and served almost immediately. So yes, my bowl was still boiling as I was attempting to eat it. Of course it's served on a thick wooden tray with handles. I would be very careful if this was in front of a child. It is very hot. Believe it or not, 20 minutes later, the broth was still bubbling. Those volcanic rock bowl very surely retains heats! So to say I was impressed with the presentation would be an understatement. Pictures would not do it justice so I had to take a video (see the attached video). I was surprised that everything fit in that bowl. There were 2 large slices of nopales cactus, fajita steak, chicken, shrimp, zucchini, squash, and bell pepper. All cooked in a delicious broth. Yom Yom Yom. The heroes of the dish were the steak and the shrimp. Grilled then left to simmer in that bubbling broth... you can never complain of your food getting cold with this dish! Ken and J actually also ordered the molcajete bowl Mexican Alambre, but their bowl was not as "hot" nor were their bowls still boiling 20 minutes later. It probably also had something to do with the fact that their bowl was lined with a large banana leaf which shielded it from heat. I tasted a small piece of the large slice of green pepper and it was spicy. Jerry got the Smothered Chicken burrito which he finished completely. The presentation of his burrito (see photo) was on point.
If I had the opportunity, I would certainly return if only to check out their rooftop and sample their other menu items. The chipotle garlic shrimp tacos and baja fish tacos sound delicious. I'm sure having a night club vibe brings in many customers and the food and drink ensures a very entertaining evening. Welcome to "the good life"!
