The 9 Best Vietnamese Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"It’s hard not to get very comfortable very quickly at this BYOB spot in Deptford. Whether you’re settling down solo for a lunchtime bowl of soothing bún bò huê, or piling in with friends for sticky mock ‘pork’ ribs (the vegan menu is extensive and excellent), Viet Alley has got you covered. The dimly lit room is comfortable without being anything fancy, but is the kind of flavoursome cave you can hole up in for an hour or two with no problem at all." - jake missing

The 13 Best Restaurants In Deptford - London - The Infatuation

"A meal at Viet Alley brings our blood pressure down and the bún bò huê has us gazing into the glistening broth like Narcissus. Drop down into a seat and feel your brain switch off as cave-like black walls envelope you and rich, deep bowls of phở soothe you. We like to spend an undisturbed lunch hour or two sitting under the convincing fake blossom tree and people-watching through the front window. In the evening, this BYOB Vietnamese spot fills up with groups of friends making the most of extensive vegan menus and shareable ‘duck’ summer rolls—which are a must-order—as well as satisfying, sticky ‘pork’ ribs." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, sinead cranna, daisy meager

⭐☆☆☆☆ This was my first and definitely last visit to Viet Alley in Houston. I came in when they opened at 8:00 AM and ordered a rice dish. The experience was absolutely terrible. As soon as I took one bite of the rice, I had to stop eating—it had a horrible, foul smell, like cockroaches. It was disgusting and completely inedible. To make things worse, I went to check out the restroom, and it was filthy. The smell was awful, and the bathroom looked like a messy storage room. This place is not clean or sanitary at all. I’m shocked they operate under these conditions. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Google
We came here for the garlic butter crawfish and it did not disappoint — super fresh, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with a rich, garlicky kick. The mango salad was also a standout — light, refreshing, and full of flavor with just the right balance of sweet and tangy. On top of the great food, the service was amazing! The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely be back soon!

Google
We always come in when we're in town for the bo ne (steak and egg). Today, I decided to try the egg coffee. And it was so rich and creamy without that eggy smell. I would come back for this again.

Google
Food is Good! Pretty good menu serving up authentic Vietnamese cuisine. We order the hu tieu bo kho, bun rieu and com thit nùong and they all was on point, a 4 out of 5 star. We enjoy it. To the Owner or Manager: PLEASE put decent napkin for you customer to use instead the the hard cheap paper roll that you cannot even tear and it hurt our mouth when we use it. These are for the restroom uses when you finish washing your hands.

Google
Visited here from another state and the food is truly fantastic! I wish my stomach was bigger so I could try all the dishes haha. And the price is unbeatable too! Staff is so kind and friendly. Would of course recommend!

Google
Hmmmm This place is so so. Not too good, but not too bad. Food: they offer so many different options, which is very nice. We had bo ne, mi quang, and com ga xoi mo. Bo ne is not worth it. $16 for just eggs, pate, and bread. Nothing special. Mi quang and com ga was tasty. I love them! Service: typical Vietnamese restaurant with decent service, could not ask for more. Nothing much special for me to come back.

Google
Ordered My Quang Tom Thit and 6lbs of crawfish. I had to waited 45 mins for My Quang while crawfish already done in 20 mins. And restaurant was empty, no customer at all. So freaking hangry.

Google
Their daily specials is great tbh. Crispy chickin' rice worth trying on Thursday. The only problem which let me down is the owner's ATTITUDE!!! She talks TOO LOUD with NO CONCERN of customers who are enjoying their meals (as if SHE'S SHOUTING). She had a long conversation with her acquaintances all across the hall during our dine in. That's disturbing 😒 next time I'll take out

Yelp
Tucked away in a quiet corner of one of the many strip centers in little sigh gone. This vietnamese restaurant offers bahn mi sandwiches, vermicelli bowls, and broken rice dishes. There is penty of parking and several tables for dining inside. They offer daily specials for $9 dollars which i took advantage of. The daily specials menu is only written in Vietnamese, but when I asked the waitress was happy to translate for us. I ordered the Vermicelli bowl with chicken and my partner ordered the broken rice with pork chop. At some restaurants, daily specials means smaller portions, but not here. The portions were very generous. Actually, I was surprised how much chicken my bowl had. Probably the most protein i've ever had in a vermicelli bowl. My partner also enjoyed her broken rice. The pork chop was seasoned nicely and rice cooked well. I highly recommend Viet Alley for their friendly staff and generous portions. Pro tip: next door to this restaurant is a place that sells different flavors of cooked tofu. Also worth checking o!ut

Yelp
Food was okay, nothing special. I wanted some Bo ne for lunch. Our original spot was closed and we went to try it here since everyone hyped about their Bo ne.. not really for me. It was so mediocre! Vietnamese coffee was also mid. Com ga xoi mo was okay, a lot of rice, but chicken was smaller than the other restaurants. I wouldn't come back honestly.
google avatar

Sophie Y.

Yelp
We visited around 3:30 pm for a late lunch and ordered the broken rice with grilled pork and steamed egg cake as well as the vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken and egg roll. The daily special menu was written in Vietnamese, but our server was kind enough to translate it for us, since Google Translate wasn't entirely accurate. The food arrived quickly. I did notice that the steamed egg cake portion was smaller than it used to be, likely due to inflation and rising egg prices. The grilled pork was kinda dry. Several tables were enjoying crawfish, which we learned were priced at $6.50/lb, with a promotion of free chicken wings with a 10-pound order. Overall, the food tasted alright for its price and quality. You get a 6% discount when paying cash.

Yelp
Would like to mark 3.5 Server was very pleasant. Food presentation was nicer than norm. My husband's pork was moist & delicious. Egg was cooked properly. 4 My chicken was very dry, and restaurant was a bit loud as more people came in, so that reduced my score from a 4 to 3.5. If you're in the area, give them a try but go for the pork.

Yelp
One of the BEST places to eat when it comes to Viet cuisine. Food is delicious, portion sizes are generous, and the prices are very affordable. Service is welcoming and food always comes out hot fast. Atmosphere is comfortable and casual. But the best part is the DRINKS!!! I am telling you: All the drinks here are honestly better than any of the trendy boba places around and costs less. I always order the Strawberry Coconut Milk with extra coconut flakes and grass jelly as a special treat. I would say it's the perfect drink creation, and I've had a lot of drinks. Go on and give it a try!

Yelp
Been coming to Viet Alley for a while now, and it's consistently great. My pro tip? Always check the daily specials! It's usually why I pop in - they offer fantastic dishes at prices that are hard to beat, making it a regular stop for me.

Yelp
I am so addicted to the Bún Riêu ốc, ever since I watched and participated in a foodie video taping with my coworkers last year. I drool over the scrumptious Vietnamese crab tomato noodles soup at Kim Son buffet. But because of the price, I hesitate to eat there. Once I found Viet Alley, I'm in the Noodles Heaven. I bookmarked this restaurant since the CoVid era. I just noticed I could get airline milage rewards, I decided to swing by on a freezing cold night. There were few customers already dining in on a weekday. Plus, few customers picking up their orders. Considering a newer restaurant in the strip mall called Fountain Square, right across from Hong Kong City Mall. The storefront was quite bright. It was hard to miss it. After I enjoyed the crab noodles soup, I decided to some pictures of the menu. Then, I found Noug Mat - herbal drink made with artichokes. Yummy. I used to make them in the summer at home. I got lazy lately. I'd rather drink from the restaurants. There were so many dishes I wanted to try at Viet Alley. They got daily specials; I just need to bring a Vietnamese friend to help me order.

Yelp
Food tastes great, service was kind of slow, but the staff is super friendly and nice.

Yelp
First time here at this restaurant. I ordered on DD and was surprised by how fast my food was delivered to me. I got the Alley Crispy Chicken Rice and ordered Bun Rieu Oc for my Dad. The Bun Rieu smelled good nice portions. The Alley Crispy Chicken Rice well it could be so much better. The sauce was delicious, pickled vegetables to help cleanse your taste buds from the fried chicken was also great. I was given a whole quarter of the chicken plus a piece of thigh. So far so good. Crispy crunchy chicken is delicious. Who doesn't love receiving hot crispy chicken?! But what threw me off was the yellow rice... I would have much preferred the rice to be regular white rice. The yellow rice just didn't feel like it mixed well with the fried chicken. But that's just me. I finished the thigh piece that was given to me some of the pickled vegetables but I barely took a few nibbles of the rice. Might make my own white rice to eat this with later on for dinner or something. Over all experience for food here I give it a 7.6/10 Just make some minor substitution if you are going to order this dish.

Trang N.

Yelp
Food is very tasty without too much MSG. I am MSG sensitive but didnt not have any issue after dinning in. We ordered on their daily special menu, and every meal was really good, specially for the price! Despite some rude customers, the manner of their employees were top notch. I would highly recommend thia place if you want to try vietnamese food with a southern touch of flavor. Definitely will come back next time we are in town. Not to mention, their coconut kumquat juice is a must if you want some refresher!

Yelp
I had a $400 catering order here. First time ordering for catering and my last time. Portions are small for what we paid. The salted fried squid seemed like two personal portions which if I had paid at a regular restaurant would be $35-$40. Fried rice was small for $60. I don't know why I assumed their cánh gà chiên would be a full wing and drum attached -- it was not. For $1.50 each that is very expensive. Further, I walked in at 9:55am. My order was suppose to be ready at 10am. I needed to leave by 10am because I was driving out of town with all the food. I waited over 40mins for all my food after the staff member told me to wait 5 minutes. I'm very annoyed because I had my spouse and children waiting in the car and my entire family is waiting for the food to eat at noon. A family member commented the fried rice had turned hard. Definitely will not be ordering catering from them next year or patronizing their restaurant in the future.

Yelp
MUST TRY THEIR MI QUANG, specially vietnamese yellow noodle dish with pork. This is probably one of the best ones I've had in Houston and I eat everywhere. Literally.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
First time catering with Viet Alley. They were on time as delivered for pick up. We ordered 4 party trays with a free tray of fried rice for free on their special when you spend $200 or more. I would have to say their food is a hit or miss. Some are great and some are not. We ordered chicken wings, mayo clams, stir fried egg noodles, and Squid. I would say half would be consumed but the other half would be untouched. I also noticed this stirfried egg noodles went bad in the fridge a few hours after. We had to toss the whole tray out and went sour. Definitely, not my first to go catering restaurant for next event.

Yelp
The business was nice and clean, I went in for a bahn mi. It is very important to have "Pate" in my Vietnamese sandwiches.... So I go out of my way to call places before I stop in to see if they offer that. I did call and they did say they offered it. So I then arrived, ordered a pork bahn mi with pate, extra butter, and no veggies. So after I placed the order, I waited. While I was waiting for my order I noticed pre made Thai tea. So I went and grabbed one from the freezer and sat down. My order was to go. So roughly 22mins passes by so I stand up to follow up on my one sandwich. It just made it out from the back, mind you the place was not packed or over crowded. .... I asked for Siracha hot spice to go as I was paying for the transaction. They looked at me as if I ordered Raccoon feet! So I said, don't worry about it I'll get some from off the table. So I opened up my wrapped sandwich and proceeded to add siracha sauce, only to notice there was no extra butter/mayo and that the pate was placed in a small jello shot like container. I wanted the sandwich the way I ordered it, it's not Ikea furniture, I don't want to have to assemble it when I leave the brick and mortar.

Yelp
Not to be confused with Viet Ali, which is a girl named Ali that I know from Hanoi. She's kinda Hanoi-ing, but super hot. Viet Alley is definitely one of the many amazing Vietnamese restaurants located in Vietnamese Town of Houston. There are so many to choose from it's not even funny. We're talking some of the most spectacular Vietnamese food in the country. This is just one of them, and one of at least 50 different five star eating places that are specifically Vietnamese, and that's only getting started on the Vietnamese stuff. I highly recommend you give it a try!
google avatar

Jared C.

Yelp
Bland taste and not the fastest at all. I would pass this place up and try another viet restaurant in the area
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
The workers were attentive but the place was pretty slow when I stopped by for a quick bite. My baby girl wanted pho but unfortunately they do not have pho. I ordered my daughter a thit nuong rice plate that was a lunch special for that day. It was a good price for $7. The meat had good flavor and was not fatty or dry. They had a complementary seaweed soup with the lunch deal. The bo kho dish that I ordered was just ok. The meat and carrots were tender but I thought it could have had more meat instead of stomach lining. The bread served with my bo kho was just the right amount of crisp to it and soft on the inside. I enjoyed the music and what was on tv for the customers to watch. I was surprised but they have banh mi there considering they are right next door to Nguyen Ngo banh mi. I may try it again one day. They do offer different lunch specials every.

Yelp
google avatar

Calvin D.

Yelp
This is my first place that I've ever tried Bo ne (viet steak and eggs) from a restaurant. I do say that the food does not lack any flavor (saltyish). My order came with pate and butter on the side which are both my favorite add ons for my Banh mi. There was a $2/3 or so extra charge for xiu mai (2 pieces of Vietnamese meatballs) and a piece of cow cheese. I don't think that was worth getting and could pass on it. They have many other viet dishes on the menu as well! Service did take awhile to get the food out and it wasn't busy when I went in the afternoon. I'd have to try other places to see how others bo ne tastes like elsewhere. 3/5 stars

K P.

Yelp
Have been coming here for iced egg coffee to go for over a year. Finally got a chance to stop in for lunch and was very disappointed. Ordered egg noodle & meatball for my children and pork chop rice plate for myself. Bad quality and doesn't taste fresh. Also never realized how dirty the place was. Floors and windows don't look like it's been cleaned for months.
google avatar

Krista R.

Yelp
We came here the day we went back home. I got the R2, com ga xoi mam toi. It's a fried quarter leg chicken served with yellow rice, seaweed soup, and pickled veggies. Man was that chicken good. I enjoyed every bite of what was on my plate. Husband got R4 the chargrilled porkchop. It was also really good. Gonna have to look out for a dish like this here in dfw.
google avatar

Doriee L.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by Viet Alley for a drink after breakfast. He got a large cafe trung, which is an egg yolk coffee. It's pretty much Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk but it's topped with an egg yolk mixture. The egg yolk mixture is made with egg yolk, sugar, and condensed milk. We've never had it before so I wasn't exactly sure if you're supposed to mix in the egg yolk mixture or not? I did try a sip of it and the coffee is acidic. So ... if you don't like acidic coffee, I would not suggest this! That was the only thing we got from here so maybe the other stuff will be much better!
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Showed up 15 minutes before closing to get two banh mi to go. When I pulled up, they shut the lights off. I guess this business just closes whenever they want

Stable N.

Yelp
The food was below average and the Bo ne was not special at all. The broth based entrees tasted old and I would never come back.
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
I came to this newish spot that is famous for their preparation of fried chicken. They're also serving unique drinks with combinations like coconut and kumquat. Lemongrass lemonade and peach tea made with actual peaches floating inside. Their trying to be hip by having a renovated interior and they serve their ice water in mason jars. I tried the fried chicken, bo ne, coconut kumquat juice and peach tea and found the place to be average at best. Nothing really special with the bo ne as some of my pieces were a little chewy. I've had all sorts of fried chicken in my lifetime and found this one to be ok....its just Vietnamese style so a little more healthy than your American or soul food fried chicken. Check out their lunch specials Mon-Wed for $5.99
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
I like that they have good crawfish prices!! But man they get busy and hectic. Takes a while sometimes. Crawfish 4/5 Flavor is good for what it is. Size is very nice. The price you can not beat it elsewhere. Bo ne 5/5 I love their bo ne. Flavor isn't overly sweet like some places. Chicken and rice 3/5 I wasn't a fan of this dish. Everything was crispy and had flavor but just my preference. Nuoc mat 5/5 Tasty and plentiful Passion fruit 2/5 Too sour!
google avatar

Kacy M.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday and they had a few diners. Ordered the alley chicken salad which comes with broth, veggies, rice, and poached chicken (mixed with onions and fried onions). The chicken was tender and flavorful with me adding both the broth and fish sauce. It was my first time there so the waitress asked if I had any questions and was pointing out which dishes she'd recommend and explained what was in them. The food was super cheap $8 and a big portion. I'd definitely come back and try another rice plate and drinks. Downside was that it was $10 minimum for charging with a credit card so I paid cash.
google avatar

Conrad N.

Yelp
I ordered the Mi nam vang togo yesterday. Open the box today and there is only noodle and soup. There is not a single piece of meat. I'm not vegetarian. And they charge $9.25 for this? I like the food here when dinning in, but togo foods has been disappointed. Updated: stop by today, the restaurant give me a refund for this order

Yelp
So I have a crawfish diary that has places that I frequently go to and new places that I would like to try. Viet Alley was on my list, so I decided to order Crawfish to go on a Friday night. I ordered 3 lbs of Crawfish, Garlic Butter style. The lady that answered that phone was very nice and friendly. When I got there to pick up my order she displayed the same kindness. The Crawfish were the biggest sizes that I've seen all season and you best believe that I've been to many places. The sausage was a jalapeno sausage and it was oh so good! The Crawfish could have been soaked for flavor to get in the tail. I did have to add seasoning. FASTFORWARD-I woke up with horrible stomach pains and spend an abundance of time in the restroom. WHY??? So lots of viet cajun restaurants use a lot of MSG in their food. My stomach does not go for that. I really wanted to make another trip her for Crawfish but as much as I want to the horrible bathroom menu will appear if I even try. I plan on going back to try Hue Tieu/Mi Nam Vang or the Hue Tieu/ Mi Bo Vien.
google avatar

Marie D.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick weekday lunch and got the Grilled Pork Chop lunch special and it was great! We also go the Vietnamese Bo Kho Beef Stew w bread and it was good as well with lemon grass flavor. Everything on the menu looks great! Will be back!
google avatar

Roger D.

Yelp
They change their Bo ne meat so took some point away. The salad is not even green and the beef chunk is no more. The quality is down because they are using beef flank not rib eye.
google avatar

Beanie N.

Yelp
I ordered Crispy chicken rice delievered to my workplace and while eating the soup a little fly floating on my spoon. I have always liked this dish and this is not the first time I had it but this is just disgusting. I lost my appetite and wanted to throw up right away after seeing this.

Yelp

Yelp
I saw them advertised about crawfish during Easter. I wanted to show my support and decided to order 10lbs and some side orders. From personal experiences, 8 out of 10 places that sells crawfish will sell you short, I'm not sure where these restaurants get their equipments. They were advertising jumbo size for $5/lb, which is a great deal. So I paid for 10lbs and only got 8lbs, this is including the side orders' weight. As for the taste, flavor of the crawfish was good. It would taste even better if the flavor bath in the seasoning/broth a little longer. Now for the size, it is no where near jumbo, small to mid size at best. See attached picture. I'm a loyal customer to restaurants that treat their customers well, but if you cheat me, no more business from me. Update: I decided to give them another chance since their flavor was too my liking. This time I order 17lbs and got my 17lbs. I called them out on that so they took a weight scale out for me to check the weight. I also checked when I got him, was not shorted this time. Last time's size was no where near the nice size I got the second try, of course it cost me more to get jumbo mixed. Overall second time experience was way better than my first experience. I will be ba

Yelp

Yelp
We ordered meatball egg sandwich, and bun rieu (viet crab paste soup) to go. Too much msg in the sauce and the egg was stuffed inside the meatball, weird. They used the same meatball for the soup as they do in the sandwich, but the soup meatball is suppose to be crab & pork. I don't know how they can screw up an authentic Vietnamese soup like this. I mean the word crab is in the name of the soup. We won't be ordering here again and it's super overpriced.
google avatar

Vanesa V.

Yelp
Did not have chicken when we came here so I had to order the noodle dish. Did not like the noodle dish at all and only took one bite and left the rest. The sauce the noodles come in had a really weird flavor I did not like. My husband got the steak and eggs and said it was not bad but he didn't like the pate that came w the bread.
google avatar

Yelp
do not come! nobody in the restaurant. they take a long time to get food out. i ordered 2 bahnmi and took 45 minutes! insane never again!!!

Yelp
I ordered the Com Tam. Sizable amount of meat. They use the proper rice for this dish. I say the "nuoc mam" need more tweaking to taste right as of right now it's just okay not excellent. I would eat here again for lunch. I have yet to find an excellent Com Tam place in HOUSTON
google avatar

Juliane V.

Yelp
Best chicken and rice I have eat in Houston! I love the portion they give for only $9! The chicken legs stays crunchy and not a lot of fatting. I do highly recommend this place and at least give it a try! I would eat here everyday if I could.

Yelp
Food was delicious and came out really fast, that's why I am a regular at this restaurant. However on my visit on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. The service was unacceptable. My family was treating me to a meal here, we waited 10 minutes without anyone coming to our table (usually the service is fast and the store wasn't busy today) while they have three employees behind the counters. During our entire meal not once have they stopped by, which is also isn't all that big of a deal to me but I am saying this to set the tone for what comes next. When its time to pay, my elderly dad went to the counter to pay with cash. The changes was 75 cents and he said to keep it (our family have a habit of leaving the tips at the table instead), because he was going to leave extra cash at the table. Lo and behold they finally came to our table not with meal checks but to give the 75 cents back. This is basically a statement that they are saying they don't want petty changes, I know because I used to work in the food industry myself. No matter how bad the tips is, professionally this is unacceptable. You'll get bad tips once in a while, but take it and move on. Literally does no good to confront customers about it. We left anyway with 10% tip (10% is minimum even with bad service, I make sure me or my party tips 15+% always). I'll come back still because I know not all of the server here is like this, I usually go eat at night and the older gentleman is much more professional and kinder than these college students. I hope the nice lady boss can see this and train them better.
google avatar

Fortheloveoffood ..

Yelp
the portion size was not worth my money. This doesn't look appealing at all. I think I got 7 or 8 pieces of meat and it was really chewy. I'm not sure if I wanna come back again. Food was cold when I got it. When I got there the staff didn't have any good customer service. They didn't even greet me . I guess I was expected to know that my food was on the table for me to pick up. Who knows. Oh well

Van N.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place but this was my husband's and mine 2nd time here and each time had been a bad experience. The first time the server slipped and spilled an entire tray of coffee and fish sauce on our table/on us. Today, my fried chicken had a curly fried hair as garnish. The chicken was over cooked, dry, and under-seasoned. My husband liked his bo ne though...
google avatar

Phuong T.

Yelp
Tried the fried chicken combo, it taste so good and so does the egg coffee! Will be returning soon! The yellow rice that comes with it I'm not a fan of but once you put the sauce that it comes with it on, it makes it all better. Rice without it is really dry. Also comes with veggie soup and that was also good.

Yelp
This place was really good, the food took awhile to come out but it was worth the wait! I got the daily special order and it pork, rice, and soup. It was amazing and I highly recommend eating here!

Yelp
Nice modern Vietnamese restaurant with good music vibe. Great place to bring and introduce new friends who want to try Vietnamese food.

Yelp
Stopped by during the last hour for dinner with low expectations. Their homemade menus have a small selection with few written on it. But do not let any of that fool you. Their com ga was incredibly crispy and Doja Cat Juicy. You will receive asmr pleasure cutting into it. The sauce is a great compliment to it. I'll definitely have to come back to try more stuff. The only thing I didn't truly enjoy was the green thai tea.

Amazing service! They have no ne and crawfish! I my two favorite things. I believe their crawfish is seasonal. But it's pretty big right now. Their drinks are really good. I got the tac dua drink and my friend got the tac tra. It's pretty good. I approve!
