The Best Viet-Cajun Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"The name says it all. Located in a strip mall across from the Galveston seawall, this casual restaurant is the ideal place to get fresh boiled Viet-Cajun seafood at any time. The menu also runs the gamut, with boudin balls, crab cakes, and burgers, along with vermicelli bowls and steaming bowls of pho. The loaded fries — topped with marinated beef, onions, cilantro, Ranch, spicy aioli, Hot Cheetos, and a sunny-side-up egg — is worth the trip itself." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
The food was excellent! Took a lil bit to come out but well worth the wait. We observed others orders coming out around us, if I could have ate one of everything I think I would have, their loaded fries looked amazing and omg the fried rice platter was big and looked so good. Them boys made happy plates! You can see the ocean across the street. Was pretty much in a one stop shopping center! We will be back.

Google
I am so happy my sister showed me this place. 10/10 soo delicious and flavorful with reasonable prices. Wow. Both of one my favorite types of food together in harmony. Boudain balls were packed with flavor and delicious fresh. They do not skimp on anything. Their Banh Mi was stuffed with delicious pork that was so flavorful and a great compliment to the pickled carrot and the fresh bun. Wow. GO HERE if in Galveston. Service was so sweet. Very popular so make sure to get there asap. :)

Google
First time here and food is great. I got the grilled fish and shrimp with rice and vegetables. Very yummy and a basket of fried shrimp, oysters and shrimp was hot, fresh and tasty. Highly recommend .

Google
What a great find! Viet Cajun is a family-run spot that truly delivers. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I had the salt and pepper wings with a side of Thai sauce—absolutely delicious! The wings were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and the Thai sauce added a great kick. You can feel the pride in this family-operated business. Definitely a hidden gem in Galveston. Highly recommend!

Google
The fried fish was cooked perfectly. Light batter, flaky and crispy, still juicy on the inside. Fried rice had good flavor. The vermicelli bowl was great, pork was seasoned well. Only thing is I wish the lettuce was a bit more fresh.

Google
Spring rolls were freshly made and delicious. The pork sandwich was had the right balance of sweetness and spiciness in the jalapeño which was a nice surprise. Really enjoyed the food!

Google
Mom wanted pho and I wanted a banh mi while we were on the island. My regular pho place has been disappointing me lately and I was excited to try something new. We were going to try a closer Vietnamese restaurant but I’m glad we decided on Viet Cajun instead. It was GOOD! Food came out steaming hot. My banh mi was huge! The bread was soft and fluffy. Chicken and veggies all tasted fresh. Mom ordered the meatball pho which was also delicious! The iced Thai tea was perfect. Only thing missing was boba. Prices were extremely reasonable. We will be back!

Google
I don't live in Galveston. I usually drive down maybe 4 times a year, but whenever I do I always stop here for a bite to eat. Food is great and I absolutely love the Vietnamese rice here. Will always recommend to anyone whose out for random beach day to come try this place out.

Yelp
Sept 18, 2025 Door Dash order. Got the chicken vermicelli; yum Very flavorful and good amount of chicken

Yelp
Called in my order and by the time I showed up, the food was basically waiting at the door for me. Fastest service ever -- I barely had time to blink. We had five hungry people, so we tried a little bit of everything. The meatless pho and brisket pho? Absolute winners. The fried fish and fried shrimp? Crunchy, tasty, no complaints. The Banh Mi pork sandwich? Straight-up solid. But the grilled fish, that thing was so overcooked it could've been used as a hockey puck. Nearly broke a tooth trying to bite it. Everything else was good though, so I might come back -- just not ordering that fish again unless I need building material.

Yelp
The best fried fish I have ever had! Not sure what their seasonings are but it's laced with Cocain. All the seafood was great. The fried rice is also amazing. We also had the cheesecake egg-rolls for dessert and ONG! Fabulous!

Yelp
So IMTexas 70.3 relay weekend all about keeping up carbs before race. Day decided mix it up so found Viet Cajun near air BnB. It lot like Yamamoto had no idea the food be more less Vietnamese food in Texas. I was surprise but the Pork Banh Mi. Pretty good. Nothing as legit as the ones get in Vegas. In Galveston definitely hit the right spot. The bread was solid, hearty, and sandwich order again. I got it take out. The restaurant inside has decent amount of seats. U go up counter order then pick up food. It kind of food court style find spot sit down. The staff interacted with friendly and nice. If in Galveston. Viet Cajun would recommend.

Yelp
Best fried shrimp I've ever had outside of my brother in law's. Great crawfish when in season. Pho isn't bad. Cool place but a little small. Service is top notch!

Yelp
Located in a strip mall, this was one of the few dining locations within walking distance of the hotel we were staying at. No frills seafood boil place that also serves several Vietnamese dishes including pho. Ambiance is casual - You order and pay at the counter, then are seated and your meal is brought to you. Ordered a variety of items, including pho, shrimp vermicelli, shrimp fried rice, fried seafood combo (fried shrimp, oyster and fish) that came with choice of fries or fried rice, and gumbo. Only gumbo is pictured, as we were hangry and devoured our food. Pricing was reasonable and spent about $80, easily feeding 5 people.

Yelp
I can see why they have as many stars as they do. The service was amazing, the food definitely hit the spot. I had the pho with an order of fried oysters. The pho was Suprisingly very tasty, and they were not cheap with the noodles, meat, or veggies. The oysters were a generous size, and the fried rice that went with it def had a homemade taste. Loved it, maybe a little bit on the expensive side, but it's Galveston seawall so not bad at all.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick lunch and wanted to try out a Viet spot on the island. It was a Friday during Lent so we were looking for seafood. You order at the counter when you walk in. Being our first time, I didn't get a chance to fully peruse the menu. The person at the counter was not rude, but I felt the need to hurry up and order. I went with a fried seafood basket. You can choose between French fries or fried rice as your side. I thought that was cool, and of course I chose fried rice. You seat yourself and they bring the food to your table. It came out fairly quickly and was hot and fresh. This is casual spot and has a view of the beach across the street. I would come back to try the more traditional Viet dishes.

Yelp
Passed by Viet Cajun more than a handful of times and we finally pulled in and gave it a try. It's a a self service restaurant. order at the counter, grab your utensils/ condiments, and someone will bring out your food. tables were clean, but had a lived in vibe. Now for the food. -Egg rolls were traditional which means they'll be small. The perfect appetizer for us. -The fried basket was pretty average imo. Nothing to phone home about. I think it would benefit greatly from some seasoning. -PoBoy was great. Bf liked it at a lot! - SHOWSTOPPER!! the wings. Loved the wings. We got it tossed in the same sauce they use for their crawfish/ seafood and it was amazing.

Solomon B.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting that! It is even tastier than what it looks like in the beautiful pictures. I actually drank the sauce of the garlic corn!!! Will come back to try more of them for sure

Yelp
For a viet spot in galveston, the pho is actually good. I liked that the broth was clear and it tasted hearty. It's not like a usual spot where they give u a whole plate of bean sprouts and mint but they give you a pouch on the side. The brisket was tender and fatty but the steak was a little tough. I would get double brisket pho next time. Their cajun basket was also well seasoned and definitely worth it for the amount of food. I like that they give u a whole bottle of tartar sauce to use! There is limited seating and service is as needed so it's just a place pay first, and then sit and eat. Overall, 7.5/10.
google avatar

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Friendly and fast service. Food was good. Would have given 5 stars had the inside been more geared towards you staying to eat. You can see the fridge and all supplies piled on top of stuff.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered on door dash because we needed dinner but didn't want to go out. I read the reviews after seeing it and it intrigued me. Who ever would put those 2 together and it be good? Well they did. It was all packaged appropriately, and nothing was left behind, even hoisin and siracha packets came! We had their egg rolls and crab cakes as well as beef pho and chicken fried rice. It was all REALLY good and FRESH! I would be willing to bet (and others have said) really fresh seafood. Give this place a try after an exhausting day being outdoors, or just when you want something different...
google avatar

Yelp
Good lunch spot. They must have a huge following because they were filling orders the whole time. The chicken fried rice (large portion) fed two in my family and we still took some home. The burger was not worth ordering again, but it was a good option for a kid. They gave a huge portion of fries, but I sure wish the ketchup was Heinz. Instead it was a weird off brand taste. Soda cans were super cold which was wonderful, I cannot stand hot drinks. We liked this little place and I can see us returning.

Yelp
Yummers! Get in line, order at the counter and they bring your food up your table. This place stays busy so expect some sort of line. Long, short, whatever. I had the boiled shrimp. The seasoning had just the right amount of "kick". Well cooked, not chewy. He had a burger, which he referred to as "pretty damn good". Plentiful servings and great flavor! Overall they good a job of keeping the place clean, there is a small outdoor seating area, and only 1 bathroom for customers. BYOB!! Enough said. LoL

Todd M.

Yelp
Pork Banh Mi sandwich is incredible. I always order it. I also love the pork eggrolls. I really need to try other dishes but I think about these two items and always want them.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Horrible!! Spring roll fell completely apart when you bit into it ....no hot me mustard to accompany it, only regular mustard. And shrimp, chicken fried rice was horrible and NO scrambled eggs added. Totally awful! The original owner back in the day, did it right ,! I sure miss her dedication and fresh food back in 2017/2018

Yelp
It's been a while since the last review so I decided to update it and add a few new photos. Pretty much everything is still relevant in the previous reviews and they finally fixed their sign. Apart from the food, one thing I really like about this place is that it's BYOB. You can stop at the convenience store next-door, get your favorite beverage and then bring it here and place your order. We decided to pick up a six pack of Galveston Island beer from the brewery just four blocks away. Otherwise you're gonna have to purchase a bottle of water or their other drinks if you dine in. If you decide on the crab or shrimp boil, it'll take at least 10 to 20 minutes until it arrives to your table. If you're getting their boil, I suggest dining in because it's a very messy experience and not something you may wish to bring back to your hotel room if you're visiting. Definitely one of my favorite dining spots on the island that keeps me coming back.

Yelp
We really wanted to try some seafood while we were in Galveston , TX but we really like Viet Seafood Boil as compared with American seafood restaurants. Viet Cajun was the only one we could find & when we got there...the seafood boil had only 2 options! The rest of the menu had Vietnamese Pho & noodle dishes, Bahn Mi, Rice dishes, Vermicelli bowls as well as burgers & Po Boys. You order at the counter before you sit down, we got the girls the snow crab cluster boil and added corn, potatoes, & sausage to it...one order comes with 2 clusters of crab. Somehow, the cashier ordered us 2 of these...one is plenty to share for 2 teenage girls. We never caught the mistake, even when we reviewed the bill...so be careful! We also ordered the Cajun boiled shrimp(15 pieces with hardboiled egg, corn, potato's, broccoli & sausage. The girls wanted a loaded fries & we also got a 2 pc fried catfish with 6 fried oyster basket...you get a choice of fries or fried rice, we picked fried rice, good choice! The loaded fries was really interesting & good! It had a fried egg on it, spicy crushed Cheetos as well as meat, cheese, onions, cilantro, aioli AND ranch...SUPER LOADED! The taste of the boil was ok...we just have a really excellent Seafood Boul place we go to at home in Seattle so we have high standards. Mild is a bit spicy so be careful. The broccoli I added to our shrimp boil was so salty, I dint recommend that unless you order it in the side and just dip it yourself in the boil sauce. The catfish & oysters were really tasty & we liked the fried rice side it came with. It self seat & service and you can even bring your own drinks, they have a liquor store & a convenience store right next door so that was kind of cool...or you can order drinks from them. The tables are NOT covered in butcher paper like most seafood boil restaurants but that's because they have such an extensive menu. Very casual ambiance...able to accommodate large or small parties.

Yelp
Service was super quick and the food is truly good. I am a Mexican and I love good food and first thing I noticed right off the bat is that there were a bunch of Asian/Vietnamese, customers in the store , a sign that they have very good food... And it truly is. I did not sense any cheap ingredients, I could tell that they actually cook everything from scratch definitely recommended! The price is on point.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious and so fresh. I loved it! I got the chicken pho, Thai tea, and spring rolls. The service was really fast too.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! Very popular place. Delicious pho and many other items to choose from. Excellent service, good location, and good vibes! Definitely recommend!

Arlene M.

Yelp
Went there for the first time and ordered a pork vermicelli it looked good but I got my plate and started to dig in the pork was nothing but fat and I just couldn't do it I tried but it was hard took it to the front counter to express that there was so much more fat than actually meat and I just couldn't and my appetite left me completely he asked if I wanted anything else I said no only because it really ruined my appetite and he said I can't refund u the dish and repeated it and I thought well that's the first I've heard of that every restaurant does if a client doesn't like the food.. I said ok and walked away! I thought it's sad that they do that but it's ok... make sure you guys order what u know u like because here if the dish isn't to par they will Not give u any kind of refunds back !!

Madi S.

Yelp
Me and my partner got the pork banh mi, shrimp boil and pho with brisket and meatballs. everything was so fresh and tasty. the shrimp boil was a great price and would easily be double the price anywhere else. the location is so nice too. also the thai tea is probably the best ive ever had.
google avatar

Stuart P.

Yelp
You order at the counter, and the ambiance is nothing special other than being convenient to the seawall. Service is so so, but the food is absolutely great and it's affordable for seawall eating!

Yelp
We had a weekend trip in Galveston. Asian is always top choice and this spot had 4 star rating. Okay lets go..!!! Fastastic. Didn't think Pho would be that delicious on the island but i was wrong. The broth was really sippable. Good portions. Crawfish seasoning wasnt heavy how Asian had it with garlic galor but my hubby wasnt complaining. Not bad not bad. Fried fish and oyster wasnt over cooked. Just right amount. Only complaint i have is their fried rice was little on the dry side. If they added little more oil or even butter.. It would be delicious. (oh i took it back to my place and redid itfor breakfast.) yummy.. Waiters were extremely friendly. Limited seating but the cashier will direct you to the assign seat. My trip to this facility was overall satisfied. I will come back on our next Galveston trip.

Yelp
Unique concept with a nice selection of options that range from burgers, PoBoys, vermicelli, Pho, and crawfish. I enjoyed the shrimp Poboy. It was a foot long length sub that had plenty of shrimp. It included crinkle fries. I also enjoyed a delicious Thai tea. The location is on the Seawall and next to a neat kite shop. Service was very quick.
google avatar

Ruth L.

Yelp
I really like this place! Good portions and everything was delicious. Fresh seafood off the Gulf coast with shrimp poboys, fried oysters and yummy Vietnamese pho soups and banh mi sandwiches. Couldn't have asked for a better meal. Counter service and food gets brought to your table. Casual dining, no nonsense spot. Bottles waters are sold, for some reason I don't recall them giving regular water, maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but that stuck out for some reason. Anyway - great place, check our if you're in the area.
google avatar

Maggie W.

Yelp
Not the best food on the island but certainly one of my favorites. I love the chicken fried rice, my friends all really like their Pho and crawfish as well. Small restaurant with only about 6 tables so at dinner time it's usually best to plan on doing take out. There isn't really much on the front of table side service for this restaurant, but the person working the register is always nice.

Darcy B.

Yelp
Good food for the price. We did pickup. Lots of options! We had a gyros sandwich, a vermicelli bowl with chicken, a beef Bahn sandwich, and a fish sandwich. Good customer service, friendly front clerk only suggestion is to use less salt in food preparation.

Spofus ..

Yelp
Food is good and well made, good pricing and service is great, with nice view of the sea wall.

Yelp
I came in for lunch on Saturday with a group of 5 of us and the majority wanted Crawfish. We ordered a huge bowl. They only sell drinks like bottled water or iced tea or cans of soda. No ice or cups. The crawfish are served up in a huge stainless steel bowl, which works out great because after they are gone there is a lots of liquid spice remaining. You are also given a basket for the crawfish remains and a roll of thin paper toweling to wipe off your hands and mouth as you eat. You will use lots of these. Wet wipes would have been great to have. There is only one bathroom and it's always occupied so it's really hard to clean up after a messy meal like mud bugs. Everyone enjoyed the flavor and the spice level on the crawfish. The real kicker was how uncomfortably HOT and stuffy it was inside the restaurant. I don't know if the owners are too cheap to turn down the A/C to cool off the restaurant or if it wasn't working but there were no fans whatsoever. I don't care how good the food may taste, but it was way too hot to eat spicy food in a stuffy hot restaurant. Those that ventured to dig in literally had sweat poring down their face and all over their body.

Grace M.

Yelp
We were craving crawfish for lunch today and my husband found this place online. We ordered 2 lbs of spicy crawfish with corn, potatoes, sausage and boiled eggs. This is one of the best crawfish boils we have ever had! Everything was cooked perfectly. Get the spicy (it really is spicy!) and add garlic butter to it! We will definitely be back to try other dishes.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
The quantities of food was good. We did a take out and everyone liked the meal. The fried rice was very good and we had it several different ways. We were in a near RV Park and the location was exactly what we needed. My son didn't want to do the take because he feels the food is alway less tasty , but this time he liked the meal.
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
This place knows how to do crawfish right! The seasoning was on point--spicy, flavorful, and soaked in all the good stuff. The crawfish were fresh and a good size, and everything came out hot and fast. I also loved the corn and potatoes--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back!

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
I'm a foodie and have tried countless restaurants on Galveston Island, but this place is truly a hidden gem! The food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp fried rice, and it was cooked to perfection--loaded with fresh vegetables and, to my surprise, the shrimp were actually deveined (a rare find!). I also tried the Boudin balls, and they were amazing! The batter was perfectly seasoned and crisp. I'd easily rate this spot a 10/10 and will definitely be back!

Laura D.

Yelp
Recently came back to Viet Cajun for takeout. The staff was super kind. I found it particularly impressive considering they were absolutely slammed at the time.
google avatar

Sheena A.

Yelp
This is a gem. We loved the menu here: Vietnamese, seafood, and classics like a hamburger. Reasonably priced. No fuss. Fantastic food. My daughter loved the banh mi sandwich. My son had fried spring rolls. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger. My mom got two fish and fried rice. We all liked the fried rice. I got fried fish, shrimp, and oysters. We did not like the oysters. Everything else was yummy! We could eat here over and over again. I'd love to come back and try the crawfish. You order when you come in, and then it's kind of self-service from there. Ambiance is about the good food and just relaxing.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were starving and wanted to grab something tasty that was nearby so we decided to give takeout from Viet Cajun a try. I called to place an order and the phone rang for quite a while. I had put the phone down and let it keep ringing while chatting with my girlfriend and to my surprise a few minutes later I actually heard a sound coming from the phone when someone actually picked up. I placed my order over the phone, two entrees and a side, and was a little taken aback when the employee told me the total would be $40.02. Looking back at what we ordered I really wish I had gotten a receipt because that math does not add up. When I arrived to pick up my order it went pretty smoothly. The place was decently clean and the cashier I dealt with was nice. When I got home the food was still very hot and the portions were huge. I can somewhat understand an increase in price due to the portion size but the total I paid for the meal still seems outrageous. The food itself was pretty good. I would classify it as comfort food and since we were starving it really hit the spot. The only issue is I personally feel as if the dishes lacked the quality taste to justify the high price point. While this meal was good in the moment, looking at the total on my credit card I am suffering from buyer's remorse. I feel like if I wanted comfort food I could have had an equal if not better meal for about a quarter of the price elsewhere.

Yelp
Loved this hole in the wall find!!!! Ran into a local who 'owned' a beach nearby and said it was his favorite place. He loved the salt and pepper chicken wings. We had the egg rolls (wonderful) and pork bahn mi ( which was declared best ever eaten by someone who knows), chicken nuggets for the 5-year-old that were pretty damn good, and fried oysters which were pretty heavily breaded but very tasty. The fries were great. It's a BYOB do good luck on a Sunday. Otherwise, loved this place!!!!

Yelp
We ate here last year while in Galveston and were looking forward to being back this year. Pho is great, happy to serve it with extra sprouts in place of noodles. They have an amazing Bahn Mi too but we didn't order that yet this year. We started off with Pho. We'll be back. :-)

Jenny W.

Yelp
This place is EXCELLENT. We came here for dinner on the first night of our trip to Galveston. We ordered the shrimp and crawfish boil with corn and potatoes. We also got an order of the fried catfish and fried rice. Everything was delicious! The fried rice was among the best I've ever had. We enjoyed it so much that we came back two nights later for another meal. We highly recommend, and look forward to coming back here!

Yelp
Tasty seafood? Look no further. Took my neighbor out for lunch and he said he wanted something spicy. Was a beautiful day so we went to Galveston and searched on Yelp. That search led us to Viet Cajun. Crawfish is not in season and I thank them for NOT selling frozen crawfish. The boiled shrimp special seemed like a good deal at 14.99. 15 xl shrimp in your choice of seasoning. I'd recommend the garlic. You can add on corn, potatoes at 99¢ each and even a sausage link for a few bucks. Order when you first walk in and the nice person will tell you what table. They bring everything out to you including the drinks. It's a BYOB establishment so you can carry in a beer if you'd like. Some outside seating along the side of the restaurant but inside still allows for a view of the water and the large kites flying in the lot next door.

Amber P.

Yelp
Don't let the appearance deter you. This delicious restaurant is in a sketchy strip mall. It's on the corner and it's a must try. Service is friendly and fast. Place was clean. We ordered food to go and they gave us utensils and soy sauce without us asking. We split the pork bahn mi and shrimp fried rice. We got the large but the small would have been just fine. We had shrimp fried rice leftover for dinner for two. Bahn mi sandwich was my favorite though.

Oleta B.

Yelp
This place is horrible. I couldn't eat the food.I ordered the chicken vermicelli the noodles were over cooked, the chicken tasted like teriyaki was on it and that was too many flavors going on...the service was good for to go...
google avatar

Jolena G.

Yelp
This place has the BEST PHO! It's has such a good flavor you don't have to add anything to it.

Hannah C.

Yelp
My mom and I ordered 6 oyster basket and a charbroiled pork vermicelli bowl. There was a bit of a wait just since there were several people ahead of us. But the food came out still piping hot and fresh. Oysters were big, juicy, and crispy, and the pork was very good too. I've been here several times as my go-to place for fried oysters in Galveston for both the price and quality. Only downside is that they don't serve tap water. You have to buy a drink or bottle water.
google avatar

Adison L.

Yelp
Super delicious bahn mi and rice. All the reviews on the bahn mi were on point. The pork and toppings were all very flavorful. Eaten many bahn mi's and this is at the top of the list. I ordered from Uber eats but had to call store to order the chili oil (recommend). Super thankful to the sweet lady on the phone for hooking me up with that as it was super spicy and was the cherry on top for my steamed rice (which I have a huge obsession with).
