The 26 Best Restaurants in the San Fernando Valley | Eater LA

"Chef Danny Ly’s contemporary Vietnamese restaurant in Panorama City is home to one of the best Vietnamese sandwiches in the Valley. The bánh mì đặc biệt is made wonderfully rich with a generous swipe of pate and an abundant layer of mayonnaise on top. Other options include eight types of phở, rice dishes, and vermicelli salad. The warm, wood-paneled dining room makes for a homey dine-in experience, too." - Mona Holmes

Google
Good quality Bahn Mi at a good price I was looking for some good Vietnamese food, namely Bahn Mi, and I’m glad I came. I got the traditional Viet Kitchen Bahn Mi and loved it. Everything was really fresh, my favorite being the bread which had a nice crunch on the outside but was soft on the inside. The server suggested getting either the grilled beef or pork and after smelling the grill I think that’s what I’ll have next time. The coffee was also great and very strong, a perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

**Viet Kitchen** I recently had the pleasure of dining at Viet Kitchen, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! This Vietnamese restaurant truly stands out for several reasons. First and foremost, the food is absolutely delicious. Each dish is bursting with authentic flavors and freshness that transport you straight to Vietnam. From the aromatic pho to the flavorful banh mi, every bite was a culinary delight. The space itself is incredibly relaxing, making it the perfect spot to unwind while enjoying your meal. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with tasteful decor that adds to the overall charm of the restaurant. Lastly, the customer service was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. They were more than happy to recommend dishes and ensured that our dining experience was top-notch. Overall, I highly recommend Viet Kitchen for anyone looking to enjoy fantastic Vietnamese cuisine in a serene setting. I can’t wait to return!

Google
Wonderful prices for the portion of the Pho. The food was incredible especially the sandwiches. The ingredients are fresh and I left feeling healthy and full! Also very nice staff and clean. Good music too. Can’t wait to visit again.

Google
Friendly owner. Gave me a free soda and good conversation to go with my banh mi. My personal choice of banh mi are their signature Viet Kitchen and their grilled pork. Good size for the price too IMHO.

Google
My aunt recommended this place and their oxtail pho so I went and ordered it. It was good like the regular pho except it has oxtails instead of brisket. It only costs $20 something and the portion was decent. The place isn't that big and it's close to starbucks.

Bunny Manochit

Google
The pho and fried egg rolls were delicious! This place is small about 5-6 tables but we went on Saturday during lunch and it wasn’t busy at all. Only thing sucks is the tight parking in this area.

Vicki Vang

Google
Tried out the pho, broth is very good but no chili oil (saute) and no pickled jalapeño. If they had those things, it would be perfect. Vietnamese coffee was great.

Google
High quality You can feel it when you eat it I had gastric sleeve so my stomach is highly sensitive I usually get stomach pain from low quality ingredients . Viet kitchen uses very High quality ingredients the owner is eating on his lunch break across me He eats his own food that’s how you know it’s good he’s eating pho as well

Yelp
Amazing service and the food is excellent! Our server was smiling a lot and greeted us well. Felt so welcomed here.

Yelp
Pro's: -Food is super delicious -Service is amazing. -Quick, efficient, and kind -Big portions -friendly staff -Attentive staff. -Freshness of food n ingredients Con's: -hot inside restaurant (no air-conditioning) -limited parking Would def. Recommend coming here. Food is absolutely amazing. Love love love the Oxtail Pho!! The portion was huge and definitely was able to finish it and it was absolutely delicious. The service was fast and convenient. We put in our orders and it came out less than five minutes. The food was very fresh. The staff is very attentive. They refill your waters when they see it empty. This place is definitely my new pho spot! Thank you Viet Kitchen staff!!

Yelp
Pretty expensive dog treat !! First of all, I grew up in a Vietnamese neighborhood and have had good pho and have high standards. I like a flavorful broth that you can see is a real bone broth with fish sauce and all spice flavors. The pho was okay. Bland. Nothing different than mediocre places. Steak was okay but came already cooked. I like my rare steak put on top of the noodles so I can stir it in and eat it medium rare. The I was so cooked so buried in noodles I couldn't even see it. The part that really was disappointing was the tendon... it was so chewy and so thickly cut that it was still cold in the center. Maybe it wasn't even pre-cooked tenderize it and whatever step they skipped make it inedible. I brought the pieces back, and I told them it was really chewy, gave them to him on a plate, and his response was rudely... ' well what do you want?' Like he was offended. Then he gave me a few more pieces on the side which was nice, but they were equally as chewy and thick. I think it's pretty clear what I want, I want a steak and tendon soup where everything is edible and hot. I took it home and gave it to my dogs. Not going back. Would rather go to Pho so 1 or Pho999

Yelp
Great customer service. Food also came out fast. Restaurant is small and cozy. Parking lot is small but we went on a weekday around 4pm and found parking with no issues. Food was good. Grilled meats was well done, my only comment is that it seemed like there was a tad bit too much sugar marinated in the meats for my liking.

Yelp
This small little restaurant is tucked in the back of a very busy plaza and is definitely a must try! They have the best banh mi I had ever tasted and the meat was freshly cooked. The bread was not hard and the flavors were so good! The pho tastes very simple, clean, and flavorful. I have gone to places where it tasted either bland or busy, but they have just the right in between! The spring rolls were refreshing but not my favorite. However, they pair well with pho. Lastly- their Thai tea is AMAZING! Just ask for light ice, lol. Parking could be challenging but not impossible. Service is friendly and super fast! This place is now a go-to.

Yelp
This is hitting the spot, thanks for the recommendation mom! Good food, also had their viet pho kitchen pho really good.
google avatar

Marilou T.

Yelp
This is hands down the best oxtail pho we've ever had! My fiancé and I don't live close, but whenever we're craving pho, this is our go to spot. The oxtail is always super tender, flavorful, and served in generous portions. The broth is rich and comforting! just perfect. You can taste the quality. Worth the drive every time. We love this place!
google avatar

Billy S.

Yelp
Good food, authentic taste. We had Banh Mi and Vermicelli. Will try Pho next time. Recommend this place

Yelp
This restaurant was very nicely decorated, even though it's tiny inside! The digital photos of the food looked really appealing, but the food was nasty. I ordered the V.5 Viet Kitchen Vermicelli Salad (lemongrass beef, grilled shrimp & egg roll vermicelli salad). The noodles were previously cooked and microwaved in a plastic bag. The grilled shrimp were old and nearly rotten (it had a really funky sour taste). These shrimp were not freshly grilled and were also reheated in the microwave. The egg roll was soggy. My dad ordered the R.8 - Shaking Beef Rice Dish. His orange rice was also microwaved! His beef also had a funky sour taste. My boyfriend ordered the R.2 - Grilled Beef Rice Dish. His meat was super tough and dry. Probably microwaved... My aunt didn't comment on her pork vermicelli salad, but it didn't look too appealing. It has been over 3 years since I've been to LA, and I'm so upset that I wasted my time and money at this horrible restaurant! What a huge disappointment! Service was practically non-existent. They took our order, brought water, and delivered food to the table but that was about it. One more thing: To go containers and packaged boba were stored in the filthy restroom! Had I used the restroom early on, we would've left!
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
The food is delicious. The Vietnamese coffee is exceptional. The Boba was amazing. The service is wonderful. The ambience is OK excellent chicken excellent ribs pork everything is excellent here I must.

Yelp
Viet Kitchen is my new go to pho spot in the Valley. I haven't tried much Vietnamese restaurants in the valley yet so take my advice with a grain of salt. I came here with my friends on a friday afternoon and there was limited seating available (probably around 14 seats in the entire restaurant). I ordered the Pho Viet Kitchen soup which is a combination beef pho with brisket, tendon, tripe, and flank. Overall the soup was tasty! I'd give the soup around 4 stars because I wish the flavor was a bit stronger. The reason i'm giving this place 3 stars, however, is because the cashier made a mistake in charging each of my friends $14 extra for a tip since we paid separately. If my friends did not catch the mistake, they would have been scammed $14 each! I will be sure to come back to this restaurant in the future and update my review to 4 stars if no mistakes are made.
google avatar

Sandra B.

Yelp
Best pho Spot in The valley IN my opinion The service is Ridiculously fast whether dining in or for Take out best broth Parking can be tricky but sooo worth it
google avatar

Al W.

Yelp
Do not go there if you're a pho connoisseur. The pho just isn't it. Took the risk of eating there instead of going back to OC and it was a mistake. Small portions and flavors are off
google avatar

Jenna P.

Yelp
I love that this is just a small place, it means they can manage their food, maintain its quality even for to-go or dine-in and never have i seen it dirty. Their service is fast and the owner and servers aren't notorious for being mean like other Viet restaurants. This is the first perfect Viet Coffee that i've tasted in L.A. area and so far, everything i ate in their menu are great! So glad that we tried coming in here because i'm about to give up, there's 1 more place but it's 30mins away and it's always packed with people and takes longer to order. So if you want to have a small & quiet place to eat yummy viet food... then this is the place

Geovany G.

Yelp
Would definitely recommend this place. First I ordered from uber and loved it so much I had to stop by. Friendly staff Quick service Chill environment The seafood pho was amazing really fresh shrimp and seafood. The cream cheese wontons were amazing as well. The banh mi was soooo good. 1000% recommend
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe a Vietnamese restaurant so good exists in the SFV. I usually have to go to LA, KTown, Thai Town, or Silver Lake/Echo Park area to get Pho this goooooooood! I had the chicken pho (I know, safe and boring sounding) but their pho was anything but! The broth was so tasty, the ingredients were fresh and they did not get greedy with the chicken. The pot stickers and egg rolls were also amazing. The pot stickers came with this amazing sauce, it was tangy in the best way possible. Def recommend. I wanted to take the ramekin home with the leftover sauce. Lol. The place is so hidden, which may be a good thing considering it's a little cozier than most restaurants, and the last thing I want to do is wait in line for really good pho. The service was also very good. The owners are warm, friendly, and attentive. They kept their business clean, neat, and well maintained. The parking is a bit tight. So be prepared to scoot in and out of the driveway. 1,000% would recommend and WILL be back!
google avatar

Dahlia F.

Yelp
Delicious pho and packed to perfection in a stacker bowl that keeps everything fresh for delivery! SUPER fast delivery as well! Chicken wings & prawn chips are yummy too! :-P
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Such a cute go to spot. Food is delicious and service is great. Love to order the beef spring rolls, a chicken pho(add some hoisin and siracha) and shrimp fried rice, perfect to share between 2 people. Pricing is about average $20-25 per person so not bad at all for a satisfying meal.

Silvia C.

Yelp
This definitely seems like an awesome restaurant! Does anyone know what happened to the old owners or if they relocated? Would love to show support to both restaurants as I grew up on the old Chinese food spot my entire childhood!

Johnny G.

Yelp
I had been craving a Vietnamese sandwich for some time. Viet Kitchen did not disappoint. I ordered 3 sandwiches ~ tofu sandwich for me (it was delicious), a beef sandwich for the wife & a chicken sandwich for my daughter. We were satisfied with our sandwiches. I can't wait to try other items on their menu.

Julia S.

Yelp
I ordered a grilled beef bang mi on baguette it was so delicious. Parking lot is small service was outstanding. Restaurant was very clean. It's a shame the parking lot is small but it's worth your time.
google avatar

Norman A.

Yelp
I go here every once in a while for the Pho on a cold day especially in winter. The food is good compared to most places in the area - the other place is Pho So by 99 Ranch market and Ding's but it's crowded and the parking can be hard at times. Service is pretty fast food is ready in less than 10 minutes. Ambiance is good it's a bit small but it has a nice cozy feel to it. The good thing about this is not a lot of people go to it. The parking structure is shared between the various stores nearby.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Viet Kitchen is our number one pho place. We have only ordered through uber but one rainy day they weren't delivering through uber but were still taking in orders so we drove there. Man did the spot look so cute! We are now going to go in and try it in house one day. It's not that close to us and we usually don't go in that direction but we were craving it that day. We order the brisket, ox, chicken, and shrimp. We love it all. We have also ordered the chicken banh mi and shrimp spring rolls, delicious. We're excited to go and try it in house and i'll post a review but I can only imagine it being just as GOOD as take out.

D H.

Yelp
This is one of those hidden hole in the wall gems. The food is great and the service is terrific too. The only downside is the parking. Limited seating as it is a small place but well worth a try. I mean - where else can you order oxtail pho?
google avatar

Dee B.

Yelp
I went back last weekend and we tried the vegan pho. This one's not so good. Not sure what it's made of, but it didn't taste like vegetable broth. If you're hungry, I do not recommend this broth.
google avatar

Pp C.

Yelp
I've been here twice already and the food quality is so amazing and delicious both times! I've tried the viet kitchen banh mi, the grilled chicken banh mi, and the shrimp spring rolls and they were so so good! Also the peach tea and the iced coffee are both tasty! But keep in mind that the coffee is very strong I've done phone orders and ordered online and they're very fast! They usually have the food ready within like 15 minutes and the food comes out so fresh! The inside is small with a couple tables but it's very clean and fresh inside. It's very welcoming and I'm looking forward to eating some pho in my next visit! It's a hidden gem in the valley! Definitely give this place a try! (In the pictures, we cut each banh mi into 3 pieces and we had already eaten the middle piece so keep in mind that they're bigger)
google avatar

Stevie P.

Yelp
So so happy I grabbed takeout from here today. The food is very good (but a little on the sweet side - it's the carrot and daikon I think). Highly recommend the vermicelli and the Saigon banh mi (would prob ask for the pickled veg on the side only).
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
Glad to see a viet restaurant on this side of the valley. Called in our order at around 9:30 AM and the guy who picked up had a monotonous voice and sounded like he hated his job lol Food was ready in 10 minutes or so and the bread was kind of stale and the meat had an oily aftertaste indicating that it's older which was a little offputting... also the soy sauce was slightly too salty for my taste. SO thought it was OK; he likes the fresh, softer bread from Lee's. Otherwise meat was plentiful and as for the veggies - pickled and refreshing. Price is steep at $9.50 per sandwich though, but I will say it is the longer baguette compared to the short stubby rolls. Not bad, but def could be better. Will try their pho next time - It's interesting that they have plain pho lol
google avatar

Aren V.

Yelp
Healthy high quality most clean pho I have ever had and I have been to nearly 15 places in LA . It's a better version of mama hongs pho
google avatar

Will X.

Yelp
Viet Kitchen provides delicious, comforting Viet food at a great price. We came on a Saturday night and fortunately found one empty table. Oxtail Pho $18 - flavorful broth, well cooked oxtail. Comes with one big oxtail bone and one small piece. Overall solid for the price. My friend got one of the vermicelli dishes which also comes with a ton of meat on the side. Service was quick. A nice cozy restaurant. Some decent plaza parking by the Aldi.
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
I cannot rave enough about this place!! They are the best! Best Pho! Best service! Best owners!! My baby loves them so much I come once or twice a week now to get pho, even though I live closer to pho so 1 and pho 999, this place is without a doubt the best. Yes, portions are a bit smaller but the price is also the smallest at around $13 and change for the meat combo. However the flavor is sooo good. The broth flavor is deep, complex, and not watered down at all. I will continue coming here for as long as I live in this area. They also made our dine-in experience exceptional, and gave my baby a cute bracelet charm, and a good luck apple. So cuteeeeee!!! I usually get it to go, but you can't go wrong with anything here, for dine in or to go.
google avatar

Glynnis C.

Yelp
I promised my kids their favorite, banh mi, once a month, so we've been trying various local restaurants. So far this is the best! The vegetables are fresh and crispy, the sauce is not too sweet, and the crunchy-chewy bun is shaped nicely to cradle the generous ingredients without too much spilling. My daughter loved the hot Traditional Cafe Phin. My son enjoyed the Thai iced tea. And the owner gave me a complimentary cup of hot jasmine tea that was just perfect. It's a small, friendly, family-feel restaurant tucked into a strip mall. If you're looking for atmosphere, it's minimal, but the warm service makes it worthwhile.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Stopped here early last week to grab something to go. I got the pork Bánh Mi sandwich with carrots, daikon, cucumber, cilantro, and grilled pork. I also got an order of the spring rolls(2) with shrimp. Everything was pretty good. The parking lot is pretty tight and fills up fast with all the other small businesses in this small strip mall. The service was good and pretty quick
google avatar

Susannah B.

Yelp
Excellent pho! I had the chicken. Delicious noodles and tasty broth. Nice people. Will be back!
google avatar

Hamlet O.

Yelp
Viet kitchen is another good spot for PHo. They got a decent menu if you don't want Pho you can try other dishes. Portion is a bit smaller compared to Cali Pho Nia but it's filling.

JP F.

Yelp
Need to check your preparation, there's a piece of chopped plastic. Very bad. The food is good but I don't want to eat there anymore
google avatar

Fernanda B.

Yelp
I really enjoy this Vietnamese spot! I always grab the same thing which is an order of spring rolls, cream cheese wontons, and a grilled chicken banh mi. They never disappoint! I got a chance to try their matcha green tea la lechera last time and it was delicious! Staff is also super nice and welcoming

Jessica N.

Yelp
I came at 10am and its not even open. They need to update their time if they arent gonna be open at the time they said they would open. Not even a note or anything on the door. Sad really, wanted to check this place out.
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
Great service! They are the nicest and most accommodating. Food is delicious! The soup literally does not need extra condiments. It is small inside, so it can be busy to eat there, but their to-go is fast!
google avatar

Reginald R.

Yelp
Prices are crazy!!!! That why they don't list them on the menu. Never again. Place is clean, plenty of parking.
google avatar

Kat R.

Yelp
I found out about this place because I get my nails done in the same plaza! I had time to kill before my appointment and I was craving something light and fresh! I decided to come to Viet Kitchen because it's been a while since Ive had good Vietnamese food. I was welcomed by the man behind the counter, he was extremely welcoming and offered me to pick a table, I got complementary water and a menu. They have a decent amount of items on the menu and it wasn't overwhelming l! I went for the spring rolls, beef Banh Mi and a ice green tea with lychee. I got my drink first and it was very refreshing! I love the combo of green tea and lychee, I already knew I was going to come back for this drink alone! Then the person from the back brought out the spring rolls, they were a decent size and the peanut sauce tasted fresh! I was only able to eat two pieces since I waited for the Banh Mi, that shortly came out after and first impression the bread was warm and soft, the meat itself had a savory taste, the presentation wasn't anything spectacular which I don't mind because this tasted more like a home cooked meal. Overall I'm happy I came to visit this place! It was filling for me I was able to take home the other to pieces of the spring roll and the other half of the Banh Mi. The aesthetic of the restaurant was relaxing and simple. I can't wait to come back and try something new :)
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I used to come here to pick up food cuz it's near my house. Last time I went there we wanted to eat there and I was with my service dog. The lady still said No. So we had to go somewhere else. Their true colors came out once you bring your fur bestie. I never went back again. There's other viet places that are friendlier with my service dog.

Yelp
Panorama City gentrification has produced this relatively new restaurant (I believe it opened up last year 2022). If you're from the Valley, you know what I mean. CONVENIENT LOCATION - This place is conveniently next to Aldi, Walmart, Starbucks, the Swapmeet and the Panorama City mall. So if you're planning to dine or pick up food from Viet Kitchen, you could also handily run other errands. EFFICIENT TRANSACTION - Since I was short on time, I ordered for pick-up. When I got to the restaurant, the transaction was seamless. I told the employee my name and without a hitch, I got my food immediately after I paid. This has not been the case for all restaurants that I've been to in the area. Sometimes there's a significant lag in getting one's food (I'm looking at Mi Carbonero). FOOD & COST - (1) The Viet Kitchen Banh Mi (Jambon, pork, meatloaf, Asian BBQ pork belly, and pork pate) and the (2) Grilled Beef Banh Mi (marinated beef) were both tasty and flavorful. As for cost, I can't find a copy of my receipt, but for two sandwiches it was about $23 bucks, Overall, if I am in the mood for banh mi again, I will definitely come back to VIet Kitchen. Good food, good service and decent price. --21st Review of 2023--
google avatar

Leah G.

Yelp
Ordered the Pho Viet Kitchen with flank and the Banh Mi Viet Kitchen. The pho was good. The broth was savory and the flank was cooked perfectly. The Banh Mi is why I'm only leaving 4 stars. Most sandwich reviews with photos look like they really pack a good amount of ingredients, however, mine was extremely flat with hardly any meat. I wanted to try a different Vietnamese spot, but I think I'll be sticking with Bun Me!
google avatar

Yuya M.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese food! But let me tell you this restaurant is sooooooo much better than any other place I ever gone too! The sweet and sour pho is so flavorful. The bahn mi pork sandwich is delicious! Those egg rolls are even better! Will definitely be coming back. Great food and amazing staff!!! I didn't even get a chance to take a picture! #HIDDENGEM
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Just had Pho for breakfast and the broth was perfect. I was so surprised because the place is super small and in the back corner of nowhere. Excellent balanced and delicate Pho broth that was not watered down. Such a nice surprise and perfect for breakfast.
google avatar

Rocio H.

Yelp
I love this place!!! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves delicious Vietnamese food!

Yelp
Grew up in SGV in the early 90s. Moved to the Valley for work. Been looking for something as simple as a good traditional banh mi and a good Pho dac biet around this town. Tried a ton of local spots around here and Viet Kitchen has been that one spot that reminds of the old times of just bomb ass OG Viet. Only spot with that "cold cut" Banh Mi and not skimping on that pate. Simple, delicious, and no fluff. Good shit. Wanna go to a coffee shop again after. Glad you're around this part of town

Alison S.

Yelp
Loved this place for so long but then i ordered some pho and an appetizer for delivery and when i opened the soup there was a black hair on my beef tendon. Totally disgusting and put me off of going there again.
