Yelp
This place just opened a week or 2 ago so I have to assume that the 5 star reviews from the other reviewers who have never reviewed anything else are in fact friends or family. I however, am neither. I love Vietnamese food and we were excited to see one opening so close to the house. $43 and a tummy ache later, I'm not so excited anymore. I will say that the staff was very nice and the food arrived quickly.
The food- I started with the strawberry bubble shake ($3.95). It arrived and I was shocked to discover that it was actually literally strawberry quick milk (remember the can with the bunny on it?). Needless to say, it was gross. We then ordered fresh rolls ($5.95/3), and the fried rolls ($4.95/3). The fresh rolls were small and tasteless. The peanut sauce was just a little off, and the rolls were missing basil, cilantro, and cucumber.....that I could tell. They tasted like shrimp, iceberg lettuce, and noodles and nothing else. The fried rolls were ok, but again they were off. They tasted like a mix of Vietnamese and Chinese flavors. I swear I tasted cabbage. Weird.
Next we ordered our main courses. My partner ordered the fried rice ($8.95), and I ordered the bun with pork/shrimp/rolls ($9.95). The fried rice had no flavor and was a mix of carrots/peas/baby shrimp/corn/chicken. Yes, corn. We are not sure but think this might be the frozen Trader Joes fried rice. It tasted salty, dry, and honestly yucky. My partner was not amused. My bun was small, and the pork was fatty and overdone. The shrimp (2 pieces), were small and over cooked. I made it through half and gave up. It is the worst bun I have ever had. The veggies included 3 small pieces of cucumber, some iceberg lettuce, a bit of shaved carrot and a sprig of cilantro.
We definitely will not be back. If craving Vietnamese food, go to Kiki's pho Saigon on 190 in Mandeville, the food is so much better, and fresh!
