Viet Nom Opens in University City With Short Rib-Filled Bowls of Vietnamese Pho | Eater San Diego

"A new Vietnamese restaurant has arrived in the University City area at the Renaissance Town Centre shopping plaza, presenting a small, modern pho-focused concept that owner Franklin Chou says was intended to be a "small, modern Vietnamese pho shop with a concentrated menu." As the sixth establishment from SDB Restaurant Group, the menu centers on pho options including the Pho Nom bowl (bone-in short ribs, meatballs, and boneless short ribs), a noodle-less pho broth featuring bone-in short ribs and vegetables, and a vegetarian pho version in development. Chou is also offering items from his other spots—chili tamarind wings and snacks like crullers (deep-fried dough sticks for dipping in pho), shrimp spring rolls, fried egg rolls, and red bean sesame balls—plus the Galaxy lemonade (lychee lemonade with butterfly pea tea) from Steamy Piggy." - Helen I. The best spring rolls I’ve ever had—so fresh, flavorful, and perfectly wrapped. The pho was amazing too, with a huge portion that’s definitely worth it. I especially loved the short ribs; they were so tender and full of flavor, cooked to perfection. On top of the great food, the service made the experience even better. Our server Tony was super nice and friendly, which made us feel really welcome. I would 100% come back and recommend it to anyone who loves Vietnamese food!

Wow—this place really hit the spot! The beef noodle soup was amazing—the broth was super flavorful and comforting, and the beef was fall-apart tender with huge meaty chunks. I loved that they give you all the fresh toppings on the side—herbs, lime, peppers—so you can jazz it up however you like. The bowl was big, filling, and just really satisfying. Service was friendly and quick too, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely one of the best bowls I’ve had in a long time—I’ll for sure be back!

Had a fantastic family dinner at this place. We had 4 short ribs pho and a short rib and meatball. Have been y To California a few times and this place takes the cake. My kids and my wife loved their meals and of i drank the broth to the bottom... The girls had lemonades and milk tea. They were raving about it the whole meal. The next time I am in the area I definitely will be coming back.

Pho that is absolutely worth every penny! The broth is incredibly fresh and naturally sweet, perfectly balancing the tender vermicelli, the flavorful cuts of meat, and the crisp, fresh vegetables they provide. Every bite feels comforting yet refreshing. On top of the delicious food, the service makes the experience even better: staff members Tommy and Trinity are warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to customers’ needs, making sure everything is just right. Overall, this is the kind of pho spot that leaves me satisfied and already looking forward to my next visit.

I love Vietnamese food. I’m glad I found this place. They’ve got delicious Pho and spring rolls!!! 😋 I ordered Bun Thit Nuong and I ate every bit of it. 😁Everything we ordered was good. Our server Tony was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come back for more! 👍👍

I love this establishment. I come here often. The food and drinks are so wonderful that I crave it constantly. The galaxy lemonade, pork spring rolls, and boneless pho are must haves!!!! Tommy is an incredible server as well. Very patient with questions when ordering. Definitely a recommended place to visit!!!!!

Great experience. The food was delicious. I ordered Pho Nom and it includes different kind of meats which I love. The signature short rib was tender and falls right off the bone. The soup was full of flavor and the service was excellent.
