Quaint, under-the-radar neighborhood bistro serving up classic Vietnamese dishes with a twist.
"From the team behind Saiguette, Vietnaam should be your go-to for a bánh mì on the Upper East Side. We like the smoky roast pork sandwich with a sticky sauce that stains its baguette dark red, but for something a little different, try the crispy chicken cutlet sandwich, or the one with duck confit. The corner spot is takeout-only, so keep it in mind for a quick meal, or walk 10 minutes to Central Park for a picnic." - willa moore, hannah albertine, matt tervooren, neha talreja, kenny yang
"Vietnaam is a neighborhood standby near the 86th Street subway station. Like its sister restaurant Saiguette, this place has been takeout-only since the pandemic, but you’ll usually see a crew of Upper East Siders waiting to order crispy nem filled with shrimp, pork, taro, and jicama, as well as a comforting bowl of spicy beef pho with eye of round, brisket, and meatballs. If you’re looking for a more portable snack, pick up a massive bánh mì." - willa moore, neha talreja, will hartman, sonal shah
"If you’re in the East 80s on a weeknight and you’d rather spend $13 on light, lime-y beef pho instead of groceries, go to Vietnaam. You’ll never have trouble getting a table, since the dining room is so large that the owners felt compelled to put up a line of decorative birch trees to create a divider in the middle. Bring your kids, your friend you like to talk sh*t with, or the only person who deserves your company on a cold Sunday night (you)." - Hannah Albertine, Bryan Kim
"Note: Vietnaam has been takeout-only since the pandemic. Vietnaam is a neighborhood standby near 86th Street on the UES. The space has such a massive dining room that the owners felt compelled to put up a line of decorative birch trees to create a divider in the middle of all the two-tops and big tables. The Vietnamese dishes here are classic (and the menu is huge). This is ideal if you’re in the East 80s on a Sunday night and you’d rather get something great for around $15-20 per person instead of cooking in your apartment." - Hannah Albertine
