"Vietnam House shares the same parking lot as Tamarind Tree, though it attracts more of a Vietnamese clientele. This is a reliable spot for broken rice dishes, including one with a grilled pork chop, shrimp on sugar cane, deep-fried bean curd, and a fried egg. With more than 100 items, the menu may be a bit overwhelming. Note, though, that nearly every table orders bun mang vit (duck and bamboo vermicelli noodle soup). It’s available one hour after opening, and typically sells out before the end of the day." - Jay Friedman

This place in Seattle is a Vietnamese food paradise! The spicy beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue) and the pork BBQ with broken rice are absolute winners. The staff is super friendly, and the vibe is great. Whether you're into Vietnamese food or just want to try something new, this spot is top-notch. Highly recommend! 🌟

Google
The best place to get bún ốc in WA and it's my go-to dish when going here. They give you plenty of escargot and the soup is delicious every time. Their bún măng vịt is also great, and vermicelli noodle bowls are also very good.

Google
Bún bò huế here was amazing with perfect tender meat and the broth had a noticeably stronger flavour. Probably one of the best Vietnamese food I’ve had and it’s like a hidden gem restaurant. The waiter is incredibly friendly and pleasant.

Jenny Lu

Google
As anticipated, the food is authentic and have been in business for many years. Sweet owners and plentiful in refillimg the hot water. The parking lot is super sketchy but everything else is great.

I asked for a corner table with my elderly mom but the waiter rejected with a VERY RUDE attitude. Claiming there’s no seats left but obviously there’s a table in the corner and it’s not reserved but they just wouldn’t let us have it. I don’t mind if you let a bigger party sit there but you could have said it nicely. Can I pay no tips with this kind of attitude?? btw, I was at their Chinatown branch the other day. My friend paid with credit card and left tips in cash on the table. The cashier asked my friend if he’s gonna pay tips. It isn’t cheap to eat out nowadays. But we still do it hoping for a better service/experience! SAD!

Some of the best Vietnamese food Ive ever had. I cant wait to come back and try some of the other dishes! Dont let the sketchyness outside dissuade you from trying this excellent restaurant.

Google
This place is our go-to spot for authentic Vietnamese food. They have the best broken rice in Seattle. Their bun bo Hue always hit the spot and the flavor was very close to what I had in Vietnam. Their Banh Xeo is also huge and flavorful. Definitely recommended if you want to explore authentic no-fuss Vietnamese takeout.

Google
Best bánh xèo in town. We love other dishes here too: bún bò Huế, spring rolls, bún măng vịt, … The only downside is that they close so early (7pm).

Yelp
Pretty solid com tam! This place is located in a very rough neighborhood but sheltered by a relatively large parking lot located in the back side. Anyways, I am here to write a review of the food not the area, so the food here is 5 stars no doubt. Good Vietnamese food is a bit hard to find here since I have been spoiled by numerous visits to Garden Grove / Westminster area of SoCal and tried a lot of Vietnamese food in Saigon, but I am glad that this place hits the spot. I got the com tam dac biet which had grilled pork chop, sugarcane shrimp, and deep fried bean curd. The grilled pork chop was very tender and nicely marinated, no dry bits. The sugarcane shrimp was juicy and so is the deep fried bean curd. The fried egg is delightful, though overcooked, but both sides of the eggs are particularly crispy. The broken rice could use a bit more flavor, but the accompaniments gave more than enough flavor. Prices are a bit high with inflation relative to what I would normally get in SoCal and such, but the amount of food was satisfactory and of great quality. If I come back, I will NOT take the bus ever again cause I almost didn't make it. I'd drive and rather risk my car but at least I skip the super rundown sidewalk parts of 10th to 12th Ave S and S Jackson St intersection.

Yelp
This place is always an easy go to spot for a variety of vietnamese food. I always get some kind of soup based food or their com Tam (broken rice) dishes. This time I got their com tam suong bo nuong (broken rice grilled short rib). It was smaller than I remembered. This location might have smaller portions than their Tukwila location. Food came out quick. The beef is well marinated and grilled. I didn't have to use much fish sauce. The beef isn't overcooked and comes off the bone easily.

Chelsea L.

Yelp
A classic Vietnamese restaurant in the area. I've been going here since I was a kid and this place is still as cozy as ever. It serves everything that reminds me of home from pho, vermicelli bowls, com tam rice plates, to our family's go to - Bun Mam. Definitely a place to check out for authentic classic Vietnamese dishes.

Drew B.

Yelp
the Bánh xèo is so good. Stays good while ordering Uber eats. Had a lot of leftovers.

Eurasia L.

Yelp
3rd time here and they have revised their menu again. However, the flavors stay the same and made with love. One of my favorite and I can't remember the name but simply in English, it's omelette with pork, green mung bean, shrimps and bean sprouts, seasoned with salt. This is a type of wrap. So light and is delicious as well as nutritious. It comes with sweet and sour sauce but with fish sauce base. Wrap it with lettuce and some basil? So good! Per usual, the pho soups are always top notch with garnish that are aromatic and refreshing. Service is very quick. Clean Affordable Filling I recommend when you are in the area. This place is well known by the locals. You are welcome!

Yelp
Pretty good. I was referred here by a Vietnamese regular who said he really liked their food. My favorite was the Com Tam Suon Bi Cha (broken rice with pork chop and pork skin baked egg). The sliced pork and shrimp spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce and iced Vietnamese coffee was also tasty. I wasn't a fan of the Bun Mam Nuoc Leo because of the fishy taste of the broth but I think most Vietnamese food fans would love it as it was packed with veggies, noodles, fish & tasty pork belly plus raw veggies on the side to top. I was equally impressed with the two ladies, Muoy and Muoy, who were so friendly and kind. I didn't have much of a wait at all because I came at 2:30pm, after the lunch crowd. I'd come back for sure.

Wendy K.

Yelp
Finally visited the original Vietnam House I'm probably one of the few who went to the Tukwila spot first. A few minor service glitches but nothing major that affected the food and experience. Two of us went with the number 52 the broken rice with pork chop and fried egg, another went with 49 the Com Tam Dac Biet and then one went with the Bun Cha and a fried spring roll. Generous servings and delicious Vietnamese flavors always love how they have a crispy edge on their eggs at both locations. Had to snap a quick pic of the Lunar New Year display. Parking wasn't as bad as I've seen in the past at that parking lot which was nice.

Timothy L.

Yelp
Solid spot for Vietnamese broken rice dishes. I got the com tam dac biet which came with a generous portion of grilled pork chop along with an egg, shrimp, and a bean curd. Everything on my plate tasted so good. My one compliant though is they are a bit slow. But on the plus sides, there is a parking lot here, which can be hard to come by in the C-ID.

Karissa L.

Yelp
This is the place to go if you're craving some Vietnamese broken rice! I got the com tam suon bi Cha, which is a pork "steak," with shredded pork, and a Vietnamese steamed egg. The portion was perfect and the pork, shredded pork, and steamed egg were amazing! Because it's a pork "steak" sometimes it hard to get the full flavor compared to thit nuong (grilled pork), but I think they did a good job! I'm usually a thit nuong girl, but they didn't have it. Also I thought the fish sauce was great, this is the type of fish sauce I enjoy! It's not too sweet and has the right amount of tang, even though I do prefer it to be more citrusy! It also doesn't have that feeling that you poured a whole can of high fructose corn syrup into the mix. Parking is great! It probably would be busier if it wasn't covid times. Also, pro-tip! Bring cash, no credit card unless it's a minimum of $15! Definitely stop by and support this small business!

Yelp
Authentic delicious vietnamese food. I'm a recent transplant to seattle from the bay area and was craving some vietnamese food. Pho is easy to come by but that's not the only vietnamese food! Ended up searching for a while on yelp until I found vietnam house! Came here with some vietnamese friends who were also missing some authentic cuisine. They said the banh xeo was crispier than most they've had. I got the pork chop with meatloaf and shredded pork. TL;DR: authentic no fuss vietnamese food.

Vivian C.

Yelp
5/5. Love this place especially when I have cravings for banh xeo and com tam!!! While it is a drive for me to get there, it's worth it!

Yelp
Patrons need to be careful with this establishment when paying for meals with a credit card; they have the tendency to add tips to the bill without our acknowledgment at the end.

Amanda N.

Yelp
Located in Chinatown, next to Tamarind Tree. Menu is not up to date, seemed like a lot of thing on the menu they were out of. Service wasn't that great, we didn't even get served water. Parking lot available in strip plaza

Scott M.

Yelp
An old school mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant, not flashy but very good. We visit several times per month

Linda D.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with a classic whole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant. My partner and I got the rice plate special. The fish sauce is more on the sweeter side and flavors of the meat were all great.

Dara H.

Yelp
My family dine at this restaurant for years and just recently, they started having the audacity to demand and forcing tips in our faces. Tipping is voluntarily based on food quality and service satisfaction, not mandated by law. This restaurant doesn't have waiters dedicated to serving particular tables like fancy restaurants such as Cheesecake Factory, etc. the workers at this restaurant only bring the food and leave you alone the entire time, so what is the tip for? We waited for over 30 minutes and eventually had to come up to the front to ask them to take our orders, the food we ordered tasted awful and made us feel sick afterwards, and they never gave us napkins or water, what kind of service is that? If the restaurant owners need more money to pay their workers a living wage, then they should include that price into the bill and not ask for more money. For them to say tips isn't include in the bill just tells customers that the owners are never satisfied even if they included tips into the total because they'll always ask for tips on top of the bill total. Restaurant owners should never open their mouth to demand tips because that will make customers feel guilty, like they're criminals who didn't pay their bill total, it puts customers in an uncomfortable situation and never want to come back, it's rude and unprofessional. This restaurant doesn't deserve our patronage, they deserve no stars. I believe everyone who posted negative reviews about this restaurant since I see the restaurant owners for who they truly are now.

Yelp
I ordered on the website 2 orders of Pho with steak and beef brisket. They tied the bag tight and said the order was correct. Once I return to my job after picking up the food , we opened the container. Wow I called the store informed Tran both my orders were incorrect we paid for both Steak and Brisket so Tran ask us to drive all the way back 3 mike to pick up just the Brisket. She refused to deliver it. Mind you we told her we were at work and could not leave again. She said I will have the manager call you on Monday no manager was present. 2 minutes later the manager called said only option is for us to drive back today to pick up brisket or wait till Monday and do not eat the food today, bring the food back on Monday and she will fix fresh plate. We ask for a refund and for them to come pick it up. She said no no delivery service. Look at there website they offer delivery. However she was not apologetic, did not care that they made the mistake and hung up the phone on us after we asked again to just come pick up their food and give us a refund . I will never go to this restaurant again. Board of health should be aware they are asking for food that they messed up on to be brought back to their restaurant to be recycle the food. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Kay the manager are owner should be ashame of her poor customer service.

Yelp
This is one of my go to Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle!!!! I love the food here ---their com tam dish is always on point and delicious. My boyfriend and I were a little hungry so we decided to do the banh hoi thap cam as well as the broken rice dish and both hit the spot. The banh hoi dish is a little on the pricier side compare to other dishes on the menu but the portion is pretty generous. Instead of having the shrimp, they replaced it with the beef wrapped in the leaf. It's not as good as Huong binh bit it is still pretty good. All the meat are cooked perfectly and the flavors are Service is a little iffy as some of the waiter don't speak English as well so they usually grab the owner to take orders but otherwise, everything is good.

Kim C.

Yelp
Food is decent. Price is decent. Services need much improvement. My husband and I had combo special broken rice dish and we ordered an appetizer same time. When we were 3/4 done with our main dish, we still didn't get our appetizer. I confirmed with a waiter that we still have one appetizer dish coming and he said yes. We finished our food and waited 5 mins, it hasn't came. I told my husband to just go pay and leave. I asked a waiter about our appetizer, he said the kitchen people just took it out from the freezer and it'd be 2 mins to have it. I asked if he's certain if it'd be 2 mins because we ordered the dish mainly to eat with our main dish. I told him to check if the kitchen ppl haven't started cooking, then I'd just cancel the order. He checked and the kitchen people forgot. This indicates waiter did not communicate and check with the kitchen staff when I first asked about it. There is no communication and the waiter lied that it would be ready.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Love this place for Vietnamese food! Everything tastes so delicious and the portions are generous. Food comes fairly fast. I always get their broken rice (com tam). The place is clean and service is good but kind of slow. Definitely recommend this place for authentic Vietnamese food!

Kim W.

Yelp
Had four dishes cháo lòng, cơm tấm with pork n beef, hu tiếu NV, n gỏi vịt. None of them live up to the praising reviews. So much MSG, my tongue and throat constantly required liquid. The portions are generous but I'd pay for quality.

Connie S.

Yelp
Vietnam House is an informal Vietnamese restaurant. Their prices are reasonable. They are now Open for Dine-in. There are limited tables in the front room. But there are a few tables set up in their Larger Room. There is no Outdoor seating like Tamarind Tree next door. I ordered Take out of Grilled Pork with broken rice and comes with a salad. They give you a generous portion. The Pork was good and the lettuce and cucumber was really fresh. Their other customers were Vietnamese. So that's a gage in how good a restaurant might be. You go there for homemade recipes and not necessary for customer service. I was told to wait outside the Dining Room, where there are 3 chairs set-up. The only major issue is that They don't accept credit cards unless you order $15 worth of food.

Yelp
I'm coming here 2day.. so this is my 1st review in advance, something I haven't done b4, but my stomach promises u that it will still b useful (picture everything happening in slow motion scene.. slow motion starts now just like movie scene frame-by frame) when u come here u smell fish sauce immediately as u slowly open the door (frame-by-frame) ur nose slowly realizes that it is the fish sauce aroma.. the most gangster smell Vietnam ever produced as fish sauce fan says himself (ok fine.. back 2 normal speed) they serve Viet food here along w/ some Chinese delights, as the owner is most likely Vietnamese Chinese meaning they Chinese from Vietnam, go both ways.. anyways they have: decent service, tacky décor, clean restroom.. yes, I realize I haven't done restroom monitor reports 4 a while, 2 sides as when it 1st opened was only 1 side but expanded 2 fit families n parties of hungry stomachs n impatient souls who can't wait 4 their food by walking in2 the kitchen themselves.. n if u find a family where they allow their kid 2 put their Android on blast by playing games or shows/cartoons, don't b alarmed; it's just lazy parenting n lack of being considerate towards others but after all this fun talk y don't I bring up food? yes, Food is coming now n it is served in butler accent (re-take) (u get 2 choose my butler voice of Geoffrey Butler, Benson DuBois or Alfred Pennyworth) (in 1 of their voices): Food is served! yes food is served.. lying on ur table as u picture urself being here is the best plate of Broken Rice u ever had in Seattle currently Bon Appetit

Dustin W.

Yelp
Nice classy interior for a Vietnamese restaurant. Feels like there are a lot of regulars who come here. The Banh Hoi Nem Nuong Tray (w rice wrappers) was a large serving. 16 meatballs in all, and yes I finished everything. It's the right ratio of lettuce, herbs, banh hoi, etc. Overall it was excellent and would absolutely come back to try more things. They also had some interesting things on the wall menu like Bun Cha Ca & Bun Cha Hanoi.

Kaylin W.

Yelp
This is my favorite vietnamese spot in all of Seattle. You know an asian restaurant is good, when the inside isn't sparkling and modern looking. I got the com tam dac biet which was outstanding! It comes with pork, egg, and some type of meat wrapped around a sugarcane stem, and some type of fried meat. It was so flavorful and tender. My friend got the pho, and the soup base tasted clean and light, but also packed with flavor. The food did take a really long time to come and one of our orders were wrong, hence the subtracted star from the review. Other than that, I love this place and would definitely come back again for some authentic vietnamese cuisine.

Yen D.

Yelp
This is my go to place for broken rice dishes. I like how they marinade the meat and the meat cake as well. My friend had the bun hoi with all the meats and she loved all of it. Even declared it her second go to meal. It comes with steamed mini vermicelli, grounded shrimp on sugar cane, grilled pork, meatballs and one more type of meat alongside a plate of veggies and rice paper. They have two rooms to sit in so the lines outside don't last too long. Sunday morning there was no line at all. Minimum credit card purchase is $12 and they don't accept Amex.

Wennie H.

Yelp
One of the best options for Vietnamese in the ID, hands down. We come for the pho; flavorful, aromatic, perfectly cooked pieces of meat (and lots of it) and the rice plates; one of the BEST pork chops (tender, flavorful) and nouc mam (balanced, not too intense, perfection, I could drink it). Honestly, one of my favorite spots and it is a local hot spot. So be ready to wait if it's a prime dining time.

L. Michelle K.

Yelp
I would rate this place zero stars if I could!! My coworker and I placed an order for the Pho steak and brisket...when attempting to eat our lunch we realized the brisket was missing. We called back up there and spoke with Tran she confirmed the order was incorrect and said to come back and they would fix it. We explained to her that we were on our lunch break and couldn't come back , so she said we could keep our order and come back in on Monday and she would give us the correct order on the house. She also said the manager KY (that's how she spelled the name) would call us back. After we hung up another lady called us back, very rude speaking fast and loudly, I could barely understand what she was saying, told us to bring the food back with us when we come on Monday to exchange for the correct order. Mind you today is Friday, so she wanted us to save the food and bring it back to exchange for the correct order (never heard of such a thing, I didnt know you could return food back to a restaurant. At that point we requested a refund which she refused. Another one of my coworkers tried to talk to her as well and she was extremely rude to him and stated "I feel sorry for your mother" and hung up the phone. This is completely unacceptable and then asking to save the food over the weekend and bring it back on Monday!!

Pim Y.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for BBH on a cold rainy day (even more so when I'm ridiculously hungover). Prices are affordable by Seattle standards. Parking can suck as the lot is always busy. I've been able to nab a spot every time (I tend to go during non-rush hours). The soup is just so consistent and hits the spot that I never bother ordering anything else. Ban xeo and this noodle soup with cold duck on the side are A1 as well. I don't have a ton of experience with Vietnamese food but can't imagine it getting even better than this! Gotta try the broken rice plates someday... Service is ok. You basically seat yourself and sometimes they see you sometimes they don't. You pay at the front and there's a $20 minimum for card. I don't mind though because I'm not hear to have any small talk.

Hong T.

Yelp
The thing I really dislike about this place is the parking lot! It's so small but the food definitely makes up for it and it keeps me coming back! I ordered the bun rieu and banh xeo, it's all a huge portion. Their banh xeo is very crispy (just how I like it) and it's stuffed with goodies! But the reason I give them 5 stars is because of their Chao Long. Oh my gosh!!! It's very hard to find a place that makes it let alone a place that makes it sooo good! It has every thing you could possibly think that should go into it. The portion in my to go food for the Chao Long was huge! I had some for lunch and dinner and was very full each time. Can't wait to go back!

David H.

Yelp
I wish I could give Vietnam House a higher rating as their rice dishes are delicious and they're one of the few places in the area that serve Banh Xeo! Unfortunately, their service is prettttty bad. We came here as a group of 8 for lunch and it was pretty packed. Everything went well at first - clean interior, quick service (at first) and a good parking lot. However, after we got our food (which kind of took awhile), one of my friends didn't get their dish. We notified a waiter and they said they'll work on it. 10 mins later and everyones' almost done with their food AND THE ORDER STILL DIDN'T ARRIVE. We notify the front desk to see what's going on... it's literally just a rice dish. Wait a little more and decide to just cancel it because it was probably never going to come... The food itself was pretty good and cheap, but the fact that they ruined a meal (and possibly his day) for my friend just speaks to how bad the service here is, as mentioned by multiple other reviews. They don't seem to care for customer service and acknowledging problems that they caused. If you can look pass the bad service, I'd recommend coming if you have a small party where it's near impossible to mess up your order, but if you have a larger party I'd look elsewhere. The food is good but there's a ton of good Vietnamese options in the area.

Nam V.

Yelp
1. Banh canh cuon: most on point banh canh it captured majority of the essence of what banh canh suppose to be but still missing the crab flavor...that will always go to mai phung in Cali. But close enough 2. Bun mam: deep fishy flavor! That's what bun mam all about! Oh and they use a thick noodle (the one in bun bo hue which is a plus)

Connie L.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with 2 friends around 11 AM on a Saturday in October 2017. It was pretty chilly out so I wanted something warm and comforting. One of my friends is Vietnamese and recommended this place, saying it was more authentic than the Vietnamese place next door. The restaurant was reasonably busy but we were seated immediately. Service wasn't terribly friendly, but it wasn't bad either. My friend communicated with the wait staff and ordered everything in Vietnamese, but they could all speak English too. Several minutes after we ordered our mains, my friend decided we should also order a "Vietnamese pancake," so he flagged down a waitress to do so. Our food came out pretty quickly. Two of us got a seafood pho, while my Vietnamese friend got a spicy beef noodle soup. For the 2 phos, they gave us 1 plate of sprouts and fixings, but it was enough to split between the 2 of us. The seafood pho was tasty but I think I prefer them with meat, since it's heartier--I'm still glad I at least tried the seafood though. The portions were generous; I was able to finish my noodles but not the broth. My impression was that my Vietnamese friend had wanted the Vietnamese pancake as an appetizer, but since we ordered it late, it wasn't surprising that it came after we'd finished off our main dishes. The pancake was crispy and had a generous amount of filling, but was pretty messy to eat and a bit greasy for my taste. I'm glad I tried it, although I probably wouldn't jump to order it again. It was pretty large, and enough to split between 3 people. The meal was pretty affordable; at $13.48 for my portion of the bill (split evenly between 3 people, no drinks or desserts), I left the restaurant stuffed and satisfied. You settle the bill at the cash register rather than at the table. They did not accept AmEx. It was easy to park.

Houng G.

Yelp
If I'm ever in Chinatown but craving old fashioned Vietnamese food that's filling and not pricey, this is my go-to-spot. Parking is fairly adequate but expect a tight parking lot during the weekends since there's other restaurants and markets next to the restaurant. Although it's not the cleanliest spot in the area, it's acceptable still. The service was lacking just a little but I understand since there was only 1-2 waitresses working, no worries (: #26 is what I ordered and is my typical order. The fried roll is freshly made and fried when you order the dish. The freshness of the chopped veggies was great and the vermicelli was cooked perfectly. Mix the whole bowl together with the fish sauce, you'll destroy the bowl easily within 10 minutes because it's so satisfying and yummy. Don't expect anything fancy. It's your typical neighborhood friendly spot, family ran, and pretty social spot. A plus is that they have a vegan menu too along with their traditional menu! This restaurant too is probably one of the most reputable spots in the International District. There's a reason why they have been in business for so long, it is the simple reason that their food hits the spot every time! 9/10 recommend! (:

Anthony D.

Yelp
This place is a gem in little Saigon! The food is delicious, the service is fast and the coffee hits! I would recommend anyone who wants authentic Vietnamese food to go here!

Peter N.

Yelp
Over the years, this has grown to become my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in all of Seattle. Huge claim, I know, but very fitting. My favorite dish to get here is the Com Tam Dac Biet - a rice dish with a variety of toppings such as grilled meat, shredded pork, fried egg, vegetables, etc. There's also a wide assortment of Com Tam's so you can choose one that comes with all of your favorites. I've had this dish a most restaurants in town that offer it, and Vietnam House does it the best. The combination of flavors really delivers the authentic taste you'd expect to get from the home country itself. They do it justice for sure! Other things to note - service is great, wait can be long sometimes due to high volume of customers, prices run a bit high but totally worth it.

Athan R.

Yelp
Enjoyed a late lunch with my dad and my brother. Did not know what to expect. Outstanding quality of food, and very pleasant service. I had the shrimp fried rice. My dad had I believe a combo rice noodle, meatball, and egg roll dish that was incredible. Very good value. We will definitely return.

Susan P.

Yelp
Unpretentious, legitimately delicious, authentic viet food! What I grew up eating with the phamily and have never had a poor experience here. Their broken rice is best in town, as are their make-your-own spring roll platters (which easily feed 2 people). The food speaks for itself, so much so that I crave their broken rice on the reg. Def worth a try!

Alex N.

Yelp
One of the better Vietnamese restaurants in the Seattle. Anyways the problem is how clean this restaurant is. It has a okay health rating and I've seen things from waiters delivering the wrong glasses of water to another table. On a busy day food can arrive around 30 minutes later.

Kathy N.

Yelp
This is the best place for com tam I've been able to find. The grilled meat, nuoc mam, and dau hu ky are all well-made and flavorful. My family and I aren't so crazy about the other dishes on the menu, but this is where we go for com tam. The portions are perfect for a single person. The prices seem to have gone up in past months (years?) and that's a little disappointing, but considering how good the food is, I'll still drop in if I'm in or around Chinatown. If you try and go past 11AM or so, the place is busy and jam-packed. Last time I went (which was yesterday), the waiter ended up giving us 4 plates instead of 3 plates of com tam. Not a big deal since we just took it to-go but it appears they're training new worker(s) at this current time.

Yelp
TLDR: Give Vietnam House a chance if you want a taste of real specialty foods offered in Vietnam. Besides home-cooking, I know that this is the closest I will ever get in Seattle. I am a Vietnam native and have eaten here 30+ times over the course of 5 years, and still think it is the best, AUTHENTIC Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle. Vietnam House's top selling dishes are flavorful, healthy, and authentic ( This word is thrown out a lot, but I really don't know how else to describe it); they bring me back to my childhood and frequent visits to my hometown. The proof of this place's awesomeness can be seen by the large number of Vietnamese natives eating in here everyday. It's actually the only Vietnamese restaurant my mom (one of the best darn Viet cooks around) and her friends would agree to go. In terms of value, the portions are generous, and the pricing is comparable or cheaper than traditional viet restaurants. Favorite, Top-selling Dishes ( Top selling = when you see 80% of people around you ordering it lol ): - Bun Mang Vit, the famous Bamboo Noodles with Duck salad (my all time favorite) Come before 6PM time or else they will run out... Had this happen to me like three times. - ANY broken rice dish - I recommend the combo with the most words in it lol. My boyfriend is also a native from VN, and ONLY orders this dish when we go here, because he loves it so much. It's also very hard finding a restaurant that actually sells broken rice (NEVER SETTLE FOR REGULAR RICE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS DISH). - Hieu Tieu Satay - Bun Rieu - Bun Mam - Lots more - just look around you when you get there WHAT NOT TO GET (only because you get get better dishes from "specialized" vietnamese restaurants nearby) : Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Hieu Tieu Nam Vang, ANY simple broth noodle dishes, ANY Chow Fun/ Mein, **will update as I try** No, the atmosphere is not as modern, or as fancy as Tamarind Tree next door, but TASTE IS KING for me and my family. I know I shouldn't put other restaurants down in a review, but mannnnn - the last time my mom and I had Tamarind Tree, we could only finish 2/5th our noodle soup bowls. I never like to waste food, but yeah... couldn't do it. The broth was bland and sour, with solid hints of MSG and other preservatives. Noodles were soggy and the sauce might as well be fish sauce and sugar. Everyone has their opinion on what's tastes good, but If you've only tried Americanized Vietnamese food, then your opinion may be a teeny bit skewed - Again, give Vietnam House a chance if you want a true taste of the food offered in Vietnam.

Yelp
I am very picky with broken rice dishes, but this is my togo spot in Seattle! I am obsessed with the deep fried bean curd and shrimp on sugar cane. It was my first time coming here to have lunch with the family. Half of the table only got water. The server was very pushy and in a rush. Would be nice if they had napkin holders cause we only had 5 napkins for 8 people and I felt bad asking for more after feeling a bad vibe LOL Service wasn't the best, but that won't stop me from coming here.

Yelp
My friends and I were reminiscing about our trip to Vietnam we took a few years ago and started craving Banh Xeo, Bot Chien, and Bun Cha. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants around the city, but it's pretty hard to find one that has all 3 of these dishes. On top of that, they also have a pretty great Rice Plate combo. Yeah, the service isn't great. I knew what I was getting into walking in. If I wanted to pay more for service I'd go next door to Tamarind Tree. I was just craving Vietnamese street food and that's what I got. We spent less than $100 on 8 dishes that more than fed 6 of us. Bun Cha - it's a combo of grilled pork and fish cake. It's not traditional patties, but the flavor profile was right and it satisfied my craving 2x Banh Xeo - crispy thin shell and stuffed will beans, meat and shrimp. It's served on a platter full of lettuce and herbs. 2x combo plate - really good. It's really hard to mess up this dish if the pork chop is good and it was flavorful and tender, so this dish was a win to me. Bot Chien - comes served with pickled carrots and daikon instead of papayas. It's not the same, but it's still a good dish in lieu of the real stuff. Pho - meh. Banh Cuon - the wrapper was too mushy. There's no chewiness to the bite.

Yelp
This place stepped up their game since they renovated! Got three things here, Bun Bo Hue, Bun Rieu, and Bahn Xeo. Bun bo hue- Really flavorful and has everything I like in Bun bo hue in it including the pork blood. They gave you a large plate of veggies to put inside and you can add extra chili oil if not spicy enough for you. Bun Rieu- Not a not of tomato or crab tastes so kind of disappointed. But the soup base was good (salty enough). Their noodles were kinda soft but that might be cause the soup was super hot which is a bonus. Banh Xeo - Good portion size. They give you a bunch of veggies to wrap your own egg pancake. Inside was filled with a lot of shrimps, pork and bean sprouts. Was so good, one of the best in the international district. Service was good too that night. We kind of went right before closing, and even though they rushed us for the bill which is understandable , the boss told us to take our time finishing our food. They even thanked us when we walked out which is rare at a Vietnamese restaurant. Oh and their parking is super convenient there too!

Yelp
Authentic, flavorful, delicious food that comes out relatively fast. Service is ok since it is not the most attentive. Duck and bamboo noodle soup (item #23 on the menu) - simple, flavorful clear noodle soup with a pretty big side of duck on a bed of cabbage, the dipping sauce for the duck is tasty Bun bo hue - delicious pork and seafood based broth with round rice noodles and slices of pork and beef, meatballs, and cubes of pork blood. Very happy with the food and would come back.

Yelp
If you're looking for something simple, a home cooked meal kind of taste, stop by Vietnam House versus Tamarind Tree. After visiting both places multiple times, I prefer the authentic taste of Vietnam House vs the Americanized version of Tamarind Tree. Located right next to each other, Vietnam House is pretty easy to locate. Don't let the interior fool you! Even if it may feel a bit dingy/old, this place gives off a homey feeling and when you're hungry, food is all that matters ya? Some of the dishes I would recommend trying is the Bo Luc Lac with Com Chien (Fried Rice with Shaken Beef) and the tasty Banh Xeo (Viet style crepe). For the beef dish, this has always been my favorite. The beef is soft, tender and juicy while the fried rice complements the beef well. The rice itself is pretty tasty and isn't too oily like a typical fried rice dish. As for the Banh Xeo, it could be eaten as an appetizer (if sharing with someone) or it's pretty filling enough to be a meal of its own. The banh xeo is like a crispy crepe with meat and veggies inside. Simply break a piece of the crepe, wrap it up in lettuce and other veggies and dip the whole thing into the fish sauce. Add some chili into your fish sauce for an extra kick and voila! That's how you eat banh xeo. Prices here are a bit cheaper than the average and overall, the food is tasty and the wait is never too long. However, you do need to be a bit assertive when trying to catch the staff's attention for water and such, especially when the restaurant is packed. So if you find yourself waiting for Tamarind Tree and don't want your hard work to be wasted in locating a parking spot, visit Vietnam House for equally delicious Vietnamese food =].

Yelp
I heard about this place from friend recommendations and I also see it when going to Tamarind Tree (neighboring Vietnamese restaurant) and this is definitely a hole in the wall joint. One great sign was that its mostly asian people dining in, which means its got the good good. I've visited this place a few times and it's always been consistently great! You're going to get the choppy quick "rude" typical asian service, but its very well worth it. The portion sizes are generous for the price. The menu is quite extensive and out of all the times i've explored something new, I've been satisfied. Sometimes, I would even see neighboring tables with amazing looking dishes and I've asked to order what they got a few times. The broken rice plates and the soups are fantastic, specifically the duck noodle soup. I HIGHLY recommend getting that. I would recommend coming here and checking out their variety of dishes they have to offer as its a solid take on authentic Vietnamese food.

Yelp
The food here is better then I've expected. It looks like a whole in the wall but it's surprisingly good. We came here as a family for a Sunday lunch and be beat the rush. When we left there was a wait list and a line out the door. That's how you know a place is delicious. My parents ordered the vermicelli with bamboo and duck and the broken rice with pork chop and pork thread. Both of these dishes were flavorful and my parents finished it so quickly I only got one bit. I ordered pho because I was looking for something soup base. Pho has always been my go to and this place did not disappoint, It was good. The busboy was funny throughout our lunch. My sister was wearing a nice purse and he kept asking her to move it because he states, "please move your purse, I don't want to damage it.... I would have to work a year to pay that off..." he said this while laughing and we laughed with him. The atmosphere is quick pace but still good service.
