The 15 Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Vietnam House shares the same parking lot as Tamarind Tree near 12th and Jackson, though it attracts more of a Vietnamese clientele. This is a reliable spot for broken rice dishes, including one with a grilled pork chop, shrimp on sugar cane, deep-fried bean curd, and a fried egg. With more than 100 items, the menu may be a bit overwhelming. Note, though, that nearly every table orders bun mang vit (duck and bamboo vermicelli noodle soup). It’s available one hour after opening and typically sells out before the end of the day." - Jay Friedman

If I can give 0 star, I would. The service was bad. We ordered bun cha ha noi. They replaced pork patties by the fish cake. It doesn’t look like the photo on the menu. We raised the question to the waitress. She said it originally came like that and she cannot do anything about it. Rude attitude. Misleading presentation. Wrong dish. The bill came as total without details and they failed to mention that tips were already included. We added tips because we didn’t know they already had tip in the total amount. We realized our mistake so had to tell them refund the extra tips we paid.

Delicious food, bun bo hue is good but banh canh cua is not good as expected. Everything else is fine.

The restaurant did NOT verbally indicate the automatic gratuity on the menu, and used small font on the lower right bottom, it does NOT meet Washington’s legal requirement for “CLEAR and CONSPICUOUS” disclosure. Washington’s Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) requires that: “Service charges must be clearly disclosed to the customer… The disclosure must be clear and conspicuous so customers understand it before they make a purchase decision.” — WAC 296-126-021

Went to Vietnam House. The food here is very authentic and tastes like my mom’s cooking. The vermicelli bowl was absolutely delicious and the fresh rolls were so fresh/tasty. Being mixed Vietnamese is an honor because my culture’s food is always good 👍🏻. Highly recommended!!! Love love love it 😍

I recently dined here and discovered later that a 15% charge was included on the bill — something I wasn’t informed about. Not realizing that, I tipped again. When I called the restaurant to ask politely, they denied it and blamed me. I was told to bring the receipt, even though they have the records. Poor customer service and no accountability. Just be aware of hidden charges before you tip.

We passes by this place many times and it's always packed, we made the effort go in and try the food. I had the House Special Pho and got jasmine tea and my wife had their Bun Bo Hue and salt lemonade. The foods and drinks were alright. She liked her food and drink. My noodle was alright and the tea was just a half cup. Their customer service can use some improvement. We has to ask for menus, we had to ask to take orders, #jltwebsolutions Update: today we visited this place again and every dish we ordered are good. Upgrading the stars.

Google
Best ever Vietnamese soup I ever tried. My order was a spicy beef soup with rice vermicelli - it has i rich taste and flavor, medium spicy ,includes huge amount of meat. My Friend ordered Pho steak 🥩- it was tasty too, with a lot of meet. Service is okay, waiter helped us to make a choice. We got our order really fast. We’ll definitely return here to try more.

Yelp
A very reliable place for Vietnamese food, with service that's hit or miss regardless of time of day. Still a very constant place I like to take friends and family! For this location and its other one in Chinatown, I like their bun rieu (crab vermicelli noodle soup), bun mang vit (duck noodles), most of their com tam (broken rice dishes) and even just their regular bun dishes (rice vermicelli). This time around, I got their bun cha Hanoi (Obama noodle) as it was listed as a special when I went with my family to eat on a Wednesday noon. Both kinds of meat were delicious, but I do wish they had more of that meat and also greens to balance the amount of vermicelli in the whole dish. I also ordered a side of fried tofu; there's nothing too special about this but I love how hot and piping it was when it came out. In general, service here is sporadic; in past visits it took a bit for servers to get to me when I wanted to order, and this ended up being the case for this particular visit as well. A good number of dishes on some tables took a long while to be cleared out, while there were groups of people waiting outside to be seated on those tables. Looking past that, I still consider this place and its Chinatown location a staple for Vietnamese food, and I was (and still am) a regular here before doing reviews.

Yelp
My go to place for Bun Mang Vit (duck salad noodles) and always my top suggestion for someone who look for Com Tam (Broken Rice) spot. I have eaten here for years and the flavor always hit the spot. The duck was perfectly prepared and accompanied well with the ginger fish sauce. A reminder is that they don't have Bun Mang Vit till 11am though so keep in mind. Take off 1 star because the service is hit or miss. Sometimes I feel very rush in and out.

Yelp
I've always passed by this place whenever I'm at Lam's Seafood but it's always busy, and I go on the weekends so that's probably why. I came here on a weekday so it wasn't busy, I came to eat with my MIL. I've heard good things about this place so I finally got to try it. I ordered the combination pho, it was good but it wasn't that great. Broth was a little bland for me, so I had to add sriracha and hoisin to flavor the broth, I normally don't add anything extra but the garnishes, I like to taste the broth as is when I'm eating pho so it was a little upsetting. But I will be going back to try other items on their menu.
google avatar

Yu S.

Yelp
At a Vietnamese place, it's pretty much either pho and/or bahn mi and fresh rolls for me. This joint doesn't have bahn mi, probably cause the spot on the other side of the market does lol. So combination pho and fresh rolls it is. Everything looked very fresh and green. For the rolls in particular, they plated the huge lettuce leaves to flare out of the ends of the rolls in a way that looked appetizing. The rolls were nice and tight; nothing fell out, without the rice paper being too hard or too chewy. The noodles were fine and normal, as was the brisket and other stuff. My only major gripe would probably be the broth. I found the umami to be rather weak. Not weak enough that I would call it bad, but weak enough that I want to dock points. I will note that I have some bias in not being a purist about pho broth. I'll take a slightly dirty broth over a clear broth if it means I get much stronger umami. Still, overall, there's not much to complain about. Four stars seems default and fair.

Yelp
The people here are so nice and they appreciate everyone and you can tell. The food is so good but they're really know. For the broken rice dishes. I usually get the broken rice dish but also add the meat cake on top becuase I want it all, if you do I'll let you know the portions are already generous and if you do you'll have left overs. For instance my mother and husband has had the same dish and spring rolls and none of us finished anything

Yelp
I finally checked out this Vietnamese spot known for their com tam (broken rice) after hearing a lot of great things about it. I've been on the hunt for a good com tam place nearby, so I was excited to try it out. Overall, it was good, but I wouldn't say it was spectacular. The meat portion was on the smaller side compared to other places I've been to, and while it was cooked well, the flavor was a bit off for me--it had a slightly sweet taste that didn't quite hit the spot. This location is tucked inside Lam Seafood, so it's a bit awkwardly positioned and easy to miss. However, we had a party of 12, and we still managed to fit without much issue.
google avatar

Kai C.

Yelp
I guess this is a "to each their own" type of spot. We've tried a couple of times before and it's just not hitting the right notes for us. This time, we stopped by for some takeout fried rice: beef and tofu. The beef was definitely the superior of the two; the tofu fried rice was overcooked, greasy, and personally, I did not like the types (2) of tofu used - as I said above, this might be the ideal tofu fried rice for someone else. They use two types of tofu, one which my spouse suggested is a vegetable tofu made not just with soy; it's closer to what you find in Buddhist restaurants; and the other, to me, tasted spongey like they kind you get premade and keep in the freezer. I like fresh toasted soft tofu in my fried rice, so this was a DNF for me. They are friendly. They are relatively fast and they do their best to take care of the crowds of people that come here. It's in an awkward position in the corner of the building, with narrow spaces, but like I said, they do their best.

Yelp
My mom and I really enjoy the food at this restaurant, and we visit twice a month mainly to have their Vietnamese Duck Noodle Soup (Mì Vịt Tiềm). While the food is great, the service could use some improvement, so don't expect a particularly friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is conveniently located, and the prices are reasonable. Just a heads-up: they add an 18% service charge for parties of five or more (including infants). I took pictures during our visit.
google avatar

Jayson L.

Yelp
It took them quite a few moments before I was greeted then seated even though there were quite a few open tables. The bowl with the side topping came out as expected and tasted about average. What I often see at Vietnamese restaurants that I don't like is the lack of the small dipping plates and the full variety of condiments on the table. I was surprised that there were no music as Vietnamese restaurants typically do, unless they were using the supermarket's.

Yelp
Food (4/5): I ordered the pho and the Hu Tieu, which were both great! The pho broth was very aromatic and clean, and they gave plenty of meat, although some pieces were very fatty, so next time I'd order the Pho Tai instead. The Hu Tieu broth had a bit of a celery taste, which was personally delicious to me, but next time I'd try the Hu Tieu hoac Mi Thap Cam, so I could have more texture with each bite from the alternating rice and egg noodles. Service (5/5): the restaurant fills up very quickly, even when we got there shortly after they opened, but our servers were very prompt and friendly. Ambiance (4/5): the restaurants very small and the restrooms next to the banh mi shop just a few restaurants down, but otherwise it felt very familiar and homey to me. Overall (4/5): I'd like to come back and try the other dishes I mentioned in the food section of my review, but for those who are looking to try their TOP seller, almost every table had the Bun Mang Vit, which a friend said paired well with the sauce!

Yelp
Super busy a little bit unorganized and takes awhile for food. BUT if you're patient... the food is SO worth the wait. I love their broken rice dish here! The restaurant is tad bit small. There's a good size parking lot.
google avatar

Sophia D.

Yelp
Though busy, I was able to get a table within 5 minutes of arriving. I ordered the Pho Bo Vien and tried the Mi Năm Vàng dish! Both were spectacular! Employees were super welcoming and helped us with everything we needed. Definitely coming here again. Would love to see this restaurant expand in the future!

Syd D.

Yelp
BBH always a good choice. Very tasty and decent amount of meat. Broth is flavorful. Service is the usual. It wasn't busy so we got our food pretty quick.

Yelp
As someone who is Vietnamese and has had a lot of experience eating Vietnamese food and also grown a slight distaste for Viet food, I would say that this has been THE best place for Vietnamese food. I ordered the Com Tam Dac Biet, which translate to the special rice, more specifically, it is brown rice with grill pork chop and other assortments and sides. Every single thing in this dish was absolutely delicious, I wouldn't be surprised if the silverware tasted good. The restaurant itself is a part of the Lam Seafood Market, so it doesn't have the best atmosphere but it is still a comfortable and relaxing place to enjoy lunch with your friends and family. I do agree with the other reviewers that the service is not top-notch, but you go to a restaurant to eat. So if you can get over the fact that you won't receive the best staff service of your life, I highly highly HIGHLY recommending this place, or just order to-go :)
google avatar

Jeffrey N.

Yelp
I believe their Cơm tấm đặc biệt is if not the best in Seattle, their fish sauce isn't overly salty and instead it's just the right amount of saltiness for the dish, and everything in the dish, especially with the shrimp, pork chop and pickled veggies blend so well together, creating an excellent rice dish that hits the spot every time!

Yelp
I've been going to the Vietnam House in the ID as my staple go-to for years and years. This was my first time at this relatively new branch and it was no disappointment. The same matter-of-fact, brusque service. Even the menu was the same. But what my wife and I always have was exactly as we remember from the ID location. The cold duck with congee for me, and the same cold duck with noodle soup for her. Now that we know, we will be back for the huge menu. Next to try will be their Viet charred-bbq broken rice or cold bun noodle dishes. We will be back!!
google avatar

Cat L.

Yelp
Trying this new location for the first time back in town. I missed their signature 1. Bun Mang Vit so that's what I got. The broth was not hot and not enough broth in my bowl My two nieces got their Chao Long and Banh Xeo...Chao Long came with Chinese donut so kudos for that and i heard from my niece banh Xeo was crispy. We also order togo Com Dac Biet & Bun Mam...and I've heard they were good. Two stars taken off mainly for service...food came out super late since they decided on making togo order is more important. The food didn't came out all at once, my bun Mang vit was luke warm by our third dish arrive ‍ Will we be back, when I crave bun Mang vit, yes, since this location is way more convenient ...bringing people for show...let's not look around and just bury our head in our food

Yelp
Ordered the seafood combo chow fun to go. Got home and there was zero seafood or any kind of meat. Portion was small for the price $16.50. However the flavor on the noodles was good but veggies undercooked.
google avatar

Cindee D.

Yelp
The food is great but the service is horrible. The servers were not attentive. I wish I don't have to return or maybe just togo and leave.
google avatar

Justine S.

Yelp
Good flavor, nice options. The service is meh. Kind of felt like we got looked past many times. We asked for things and had to remind them to give it to us. Overall would go back for the food with lower expectations for service.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
The food was good, but the service was slow. Their to go orders piled up by the cashier for pick up and customers sitting on tables kept waiting for their orders to be served from the kitchen. It was a long wait for my lady's beef chow - fun to come while I almost finished my cold duck vermicelli. In contrast to the wait though, the food was good, aroma of the beef chow -fun filled the air when it arrived, and the taste was wonderful. My duck noodle was good too, duck meat was tender, juicy and full of savory favor. This place is busy with consistant customer traffic and non stop take out orders. Food quality is good, but lack of service is something which this business has a great room to improve!
google avatar

Trinh L.

Yelp
Horrible service! I'm Vietnamese and I understand Asian restaurants don't have the best reputation for service but this was unacceptable. We came in around 3pm, maybe half the restaurant was full. We were seated and given menus. We saw two servers zip past our table SEVERAL times busing tables and delivering food. We tried multiple times to make eye contact and get their attention. Two larger parties of over 6 people walked in 15 minutes after we were seated and got water and were serviced before us. No one ever acknowledged us and they probably didn't even notice we got up and left. Literally given zero service. I will not be back nor will I ever invite anyone here if this is how they want to treat paying customers.

Yelp
Vietnam House is located inside Lam's Seafood food court area (close to Scrubs & Beyond). It was quite busy for Saturday afternoon but we were quickly seated for table of 5. I always get #49 cơm tấm đặc biệt/ Vietnamese broke rice dish. It comes with grilled pork chop, shrimp on sugar cane, fried egg, deep fried bean curd, carrots and daikon, and a bowl of nước mắm/ fish sauce (they make good fish sauce; not too salty or sweet). One of the best broken rice dish in the area! Everything is so good and the portion is plenty for $15.50. -1 Service was bad lol. The young male server told us that if we wanted to order something to-go, now is the time to order because they might be busy, which was understandable. But the server seemed like he didn't want to be there and fed up too lol. We asked for 2 ice water and 3 hot tea, so he goes "Ok, so 5 hot teas it is." Later we asked for an iced water when he came to our table, then turned around, and while heading back yelled at someone saying to help him get ice water for this table because he's too tired.

Yelp
My kids wanted to come here because they were craving com tam suon bo, so off we went. Man, I wish I didn't. I was having a good day until I came here. The young server with the curly hair was so unprofessional. He came to take the order and had all kinds of facial expression. I was wondering why he wasn't writing down the order. And of course, guess what happened? He didn't even remember to bring my 2 order of side soup. So when he came back, I reminded him of the missing order and he let out this long sigh like I was inconveniencing him. Like are you for real? And guess what? They never came back with the order. When I went to pay, I asked about it to make sure that I'm not paying for something that I never receive. The cashier gave me some lame excuse like the soup wasn't hot so they couldn't bring it out. But you serve pho at the next table. How does that work? How unprofessional. You couldn't bother to tell me though. For this reasons, I wouldn't return here. I rather go to Billiard Hoang where their food is 100x time and they have better customer service. I'll go where my money is welcome.
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
I prefer this location to the original one in Seattle. I've been there before and wasn't a huge fan after each try. This one hit the spot and wowed us. We love the bigger space, ease of ordering, and prices aren't horrible. We tried a couple noodle plates, chao long, and some rice plates. All were full of meat and goodies. Am definitely considering giving some other dishes a try. This is also easily accessible from the best buy entrance compared to the Lam's entrance!
google avatar

Dianne C.

Yelp
So it's sad to say that this place is not friendly at all. It's not the best dining experience but the food is pretty good. I've only ever ordered the chicken vermicelli because, although I crave Pho, I don't do beef or pork; and all their Pho's are made with beef broth. They never came to my table to refill my water and my daughters went to ask for the check and a to go box (seriously, they never came). With other great Vietnamese places, I'll go where people appreciate my business:)

Hang M.

Yelp
Bun' mam' is terrible. Broth is one star ( no tasty at all with some slices of eggplant without cooking well and too much red oil cover) What a kind of bun' mam' or bun' weird fake name. Need to take this off the menu. Shameless.
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
This place always seem to be busy. Their server is always tentative. Com Tam Dac Biet still very tasty and their sunny side up egg is cook perfectly. But for some reason I think their portion gotten smaller. That's the reason why I would take away a stars. Their pho broth is very good with a lot of meat. Their jasmine green tea is very good and smell wonderful.

Pha C.

Yelp
The food always hits the spot but i dont understand why the service here is so rude every time
google avatar

Eric T.

Yelp
Place is in the same general area as Lam's Seafood Supermarket. Restaurant is your typical Vietnamese style with typical appetizers. Although they have Pho, their specialty are their rice broken rice plate.
google avatar

Ann M.

Yelp
I love their jasmine hot tea! Something about this hot tea makes it tasty. Best tea I've ever had! Banh Xeo is good too! Love eating with lots of basils and mint leaves!

Zafina A.

Yelp
It was hard to get someone to seat us but once that happened they served the food fast. I really enjoyed the friend bean curd skin shrimp appetizer but it was very expensive. The chicken pho was ok.
google avatar

Jacq M.

Yelp
Good food and the service was so Quick! I'm so glad I was able to try this place! The beef rice plate was yummy! The fish sauce was not that salty! I would go back again, for the price it's really a good place to have a quick bite! If you haven't tried it, stop by!
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
One of my go-to's for Vietnamese food! Fast and friendly service had always been my experience here, and that's one of the reasons I keep coming back. I usually order to go food which gets prepared pretty quick, and I can always kill time by grabbing boba next door or going grocery shopping at Lam's. Parking is really easy to find unless you're coming on a weekend-- it's a little trickier. My favorite is the com tam dac biet and I order it almost every time I'm here. So so good!
google avatar

Thomas L.

Yelp
Went here with a couple friends before watching a movie. I really like the Seattle location so was curious how the Tukwila location would be. I would say it was pretty good! I got the com tam dac biet and I really enjoyed the flavors. Pretty classic com tam. They do get pretty busy but the wait times are not too long. Service I would say is pretty average. Overall, I would say I would recommend if you're in the area and are looking for authentic Vietnamese food that doesn't cost a lot and has good flavors.

Thuha T.

Yelp
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
The noodles here is okay and is very convenient to get something to eat when you shop at Lam Seafood. However, the service here is bad and they charge you tips without tell you and they will hand you another recipe for you to add tips. Very shady business. Last time I ordered some without spicy and they still made it with spicy. My children can't eat anything that is spicy and they try to convince me it is only mild ..... should of let me know we can't make it no spicy then I would order something else. I would highly recommended to check your recipe to make sure you do not tips 2x
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Service is terrible. They add on extra charges if you have a 3 person table but ordered only 2 items. That's pathetic and ridiculous. Some people just don't eat that much. It's just forcing people to order more. NEVER coming back to this restaurant again!
google avatar

Wendy K.

Yelp
I was so happy to hear that this location was in fact connected to the one in Little Saigon. I had been wanting to try Vietnam House for awhile, but the parking for the location in the ID is isn't the easiest and it's close but not close enough to work to try. This location is right at the entrance when you enter the food court at Lam's Market in Tukwila. I hadn't ate lunch or dinner when my friend and I stumbled in to get out of the heat and visit Lam's. It was around 1:30ish you can tell they had just finished their lunch rush. The space is new, clean and air conditioned! I had been wanting to try a broken rice dish for awhile, and was finally able to try it here. My friend had the same dish as I did the Com Tam Dac Biet Broken rice with grilled pork chop, shrimp on sugar cane, fried egg, and deep fried bean curd. The food came out fairly quickly which is good cause I was starving. I thought it was a very generous portion, the pork wasn't dry at all everything was well seasoned egg was a little over but was till yolky in spots. Would definitely get this dish again. And so glad I finally got to try broken rice I had been to another place recently that had it on the menu but was told that it was actually regular that they served. Both my friend and I decided to bring food home to our parents cause of hot the weather was and we knew no one would feel like cooking. After checking out the other spots in the food court we both ended up returning here on the way out to order food to go. My friend went with Com Tam Suon Heo Nuong Broken rice with grilled pork chop for his mom. I ordered a Bun Suon Bo Nuong Beef short ribs with rice vermicelli for dad who definitely must have been hungry cause he seem to enjoy it and was done quickly when I got home. I also got the Bun Ga Nuong Xa Grilled lemongrass chicken with rice vermicelli in case I was hungry later. Ended up splitting it the next day for lunch with dad was perfect for the 100 degree weather. They do a great job grilling their protein nice char and evenly cooked . Vietnamese food is one of my favorites to get during hot weather especially bun cause of the all the fresh herbs. Just an fyi you pay at the counter so don't wait for a bill to come. I just happen to notice from the table we were seated at the sign they had posted at the counter. Service was friendly even more so when we ordered our food to go my friends order was done first we told the guy at the counter we would be at table outside in the food court and he was nice enough to bring my order out when it was ready I was just going to check in after a few minutes appreciated him going above and beyond.

Yelp
Bad service the waiter was very upset when i ordered she brought out the wrong food i said she said she heard that and went in When I asked her to take the box togo , she didn't answer she just went in and took them out

Yelp
This is the same restaurant as the one in Seattle next to Tamarind Tree, but it's a lot cleaner since it's a new establishment, like a LOT cleaner. It's located in the food court inside the new Lam's Seafood in Southcenter. You can find most traditional Vietnamese dishes here like com tam, banh xeo, banh hoi, pho, bun bo hue, etc. I find it hilarious that people go to cheap Asian restaurants and expect some sort of 5 star service when they aren't even willing to pay average prices. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)
google avatar

Quyet T.

Yelp
Restaurant is clean and service is quick. I requested squid banh xeo and they accomated. Usually it's pork and shrimp. banh xeo was perfect. My friend order the com dac biet and it looked real good. I will order next time. I will definitely come back and recommend .
google avatar

Addison T.

Yelp
A very decent Vietnamese restaurant to try a few Vietnamese favorites. Their menu has quite a few choices so your dining companions sure would find something. I came for their broken rice plate, their bun mam and chao long. Try to get there when they first open because they do get busy. Don't expect five star service and you'll be fine. Quick and efficient are good enough for me.
google avatar

Lyn W.

Yelp
Extremely poor service, the waiters always look mad. Every time my friend and I go there they never failed to make me feel uncomfortable, like we're there to ask for free food. If I could give zero star I would.
google avatar

Jm P.

Yelp
Ordered ground shrimp on sugar cane vermicelli bowl and it was exactly what I needed. The ground shrimp was flavorful, the veggies and lettuce were crisp and the sauce was savory. My food arrived pretty quick but I think they forgot about me (party of 1) because I had to ask several of the workers for more water but that's OK. I would definitely eat here again, I like to come early afternoon because the store gets really busy later in the day.

Yelp
This is literally my first yelp review... I'm never going back to this place.. service was horrible. food was lackluster.. I haven't ever been to a place this careless. This place needs to be on kitchen nightmares!

Yelp
This place has been our regular stop for lunch after church. Every dish we ordered today was really good. It' definitely be a place to come back again.

Yelp
Extra friendly service...had one of the uncle from the kitchen sat with me at my table. Great food for this shopping location. Fresh, Fast & Friendly.

Yelp
Price is little bit high. Food is okay not the greatest. The location is good because next to Lam seafood Southcenter. The one in seattle is different. Never been there before.
