Used to go there when they were on Lombard when my brother worked at the presidio. We would eat our subs at Chrissy field on a park bench. He lives in Maryland now and still asks if I still go there. I moved to the Valley and would dream about the best beef teriyaki sandwich I’ve ever had.

Google
This place is so delicious! Way more than just a sandwich place. I've been here three times so far, had the chicken Vietnamese sandwich (forgot the name), Philly fries, and chicken plate with rice noodles / egg roll and everything was absolutely delicious! also very affordable-- not sure how they stay in business given the hours and prices but I sure hope they do! Will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Google
Price is great but the ham banh mi I order isn’t all that. It does not have the traditional ham. I was hoping to find some good banh mi. It was okay, I haven’t tried their burgers but it I’m sure they r tasty.

Google
Great grab and go bahn mi sandwiches! The quality of the pork was excellent. Super friendly staff. Pickled veggies were great, good bread. It an unassuming little shop so I was surprised to find how high quality it was — rivals some of the best sandwich places in SF. Definitely a neighborhood gem!!

Google
The best Vietnamese Chicken burger I had in SF till now and the cheese puffs just melted in the mouth... They are located so ideally outside the Glenn Park Bart station!!!

Edit: This places has new owners since March 2023. It's a cheap place to eat. It was my first time here, I got the beef sandwich. It was okay when I first bit into it but I had to save the rest for my lunch break a couple hours later. It did not hold up. You could tell the meat isn't fresh. Not sure when they cooked it but the sandwich was made super fast so I'm sure they cook it in big batches but it didn't taste good. The texture is also very chewy with some weird tendon pieces that I had to spit out. Never tried their other sandwiches so maybe those are better but I do not recommend the beef. The bread is okay, nothing to write home about. Not sure if I'll give this place a second try.

Google
We went here yesterday and picked up the shrimp spring rolls, and a pork and chicken banh mi. The food was delicious and very affordable. The service was great! Very friendly. There is no seating available so we did get our food to go. Great little place to pop into 😊

Google
You may be confused by the name like I was. They do not sell submarines that can go in water. They sell sandwiches and food. To get over the initial sadness of not being able to purchase a submarine to explore the ocean, I ate a lot of their food. Man, is it good. And affordable! It's a great place to stop for lunch, as it's right across from the BART station. The owners are friendly. The spring rolls are my favorite.

Yelp
This is probably the best banh mi I've had in San Francisco and trust me, I've had PLENTY. For $9 you get this enormous baguette filled with generous portions of chicken and pickled veggies.. I'm not kidding, this mf is HEAVY. The bread is super fresh and toasted to the perfect crisp.. I came here for the first time yesterday and forgot to snap a pic of my sandwich because I was just sooo hungry and couldn't resist the urge to just go at it. I was amazed by it all and felt horrible that I couldn't leave a review. Woke up this morning craving it again and returned. So here you go! Please support this wonderful family business!

Sean M.

Yelp
I'm usually pretty stingy when giving out a good review for a restaurant, but I was really happy with this place. The banh mi are so reasonable and just straight up good. Good balance of flavors, no foo foo trendy bullsh*t--just a tasty, inexpensive (and big) sandwich

Elijah G.

Yelp
Tried Viking's Giant Submarines and went for the Grilled Steak sub, but sadly, it missed the mark. The steak lacked flavor and was a bit overcooked, making the overall experience underwhelming. Hoping for better quality next time!

Yelp
Excellent spot in Glen Park for Vietnamese sandwich and rice noodle bowls. Lovely owners. Great place right across from Glen Park Bart to grab quick take home. Closed on Sundays.

Yelp
We will definitely miss the both if you and the great food... but now it's time to enjoy retirement

Yelp
I've been walking past here for years and never stepped in, now I'm really kicking myself for not coming in sooner. I only ordered the shrimp rolls today but they were great! I normally get em from a hole in the wall in the TL but these were really good and only a few minute from my house! I caught sight of a bunch of other dishes being made there too, I'm probably going to try the Bahn Mi and Fish & Chips next. One key point too - their prices are extremely reasonable! Its an easy choice!
google avatar

Jaeger L.

Yelp
Good bahn mi, very large portions of meat for bahn mi, veggies are crisp, meat was served cold which is fine but hot would be better imho. One of the larger banh mi you are likely to find, good value.
google avatar

Helen L.

Yelp
Small shop, decent banh mi for being a Viking shop. Crunchy crusty bread, good amount of pickled carrots, fresh cilantro, mayo and the pork one was more flavorful than the Vietnamese ham. I would go back.
google avatar

Fia S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. I used to go to the one on Ocean near City College, but they retired. My fave is the teriyaki sandwich with Swiss cheese and everything on it. It NEVER disappoints. Service is ALWAYS ON POINT TOO. Ambiance, its small but clean.
google avatar

Ankita R.

Yelp
Came across this tiny spot in Glen park as I was exploring my lunch options in the area. The couple running this place are very sweet. The gentleman here took my order and my chicken teriyaki sandwich was ready within 5-10 minutes. So, service is super fast. The sandwich was very tasty though I wish the bread was a a bit crispier like the traditional Vietnamese bahn mi. Portion size is decent and its reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
Always see this place while driving by and the reviews are really good and was excited to finally try this place. Got the grilled pork banh mi and was quite disappointed. Service is fine and the bread was nice and fresh but the sandwich was average at best. Bland and not much flavor. Would like to try the Viking sub if I come back but hot high in my list of places to come back to.
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
I have only tried their Pork Banh Mi sandwiches but it hits the spot. Is it the most authentic? No but it's in the area and I don't have to step around poop and needles in the TL. For $6.50 it fills me up and there is a very generous portion of meat. Ask for extra jalapenos for that spice.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Turkey sub! Fresh lettuce, turkey, tomato, mustard, Mayo And special sauce. Macaroni salad was awesome too Great service, fast!

Yelp
BASED ON MY LAST EXPERIENCE Pork Banh Mi: I thought it was going to be slices of pork but it was more like ground pork made into a patty? It wasn't the worst but definitely not the best I've had Steak Sandwich: Bleh, I got too many hard chunks of fat or ligaments from the steak and the onions didn't add that much flavor. I for sure won't be getting this again. Chicken Wings: Hella cheap and fresh BUT a little too salty for me. I think it would have been better if they gave me the sauce but they forgot to include it because my order was to go. I called frustrated and they asked if I could come back in instead of apologizing. Egg rolls: I think this was the best thing I ordered here AGAIN would have been better if they didn't forget my sauce

Yelp
Small place with 4 tables but a solid place to get lunch! We stopped on our way to Twin Peaks. It can get busy with the bus traffic getting a fix of food. It is worth the stop! Bahn mi and noodle salad were good. Burger and fries went down well. Pastrami sandwich wasn't the most amazing but still hit the spot. All in all good food. The service was real good. Keep calm and Eat on!

Maritza Y.

Yelp
Good food and good service Prices are reasonable. The food quality is very consistent .

Yelp
Love this spot. I get the teriyaki chicken sandwich Super friendly, good vibe, quick service at a good price

Yelp
Such an underrated gem! It was so hard for me to check this off of my list because it's only open M-F 11-6, which is typically outside of my regular work hours - there are a few times where I'll get back to Glen Park right around 6, but it's never been really good timing. However, recently I had a day off in the city, and I was able to stop by Viking's Giant Submarines to get the grilled pork banh mi. I just have to say, it's clutch. Super cheap and delicious, the mayo and the warm toasted baguette hits the spot!!! It's a super small establishment with not too much seating, but I think that most people probably take their orders to go. If you have a chance to come out to Glen Park to try Viking's, I highly recommend! Great mom and pop shop, please support!

Yelp
The submarine sandwich was one of the most delicious subs that I have had in awhile. Thank you. I am from out of town and i don't get out often but when I do I like to try new things. And food is one of them. So thank you for those that help make the vikings what it is.

Yelp
I used to come here for lunch when I attended McAteer High School (which is down the hill on O'Shaughnessy Road) and briefly when I was a student at City College of San Francisco, which is also nearby. The little deli is also located across the street from the Glen Park BART Station. I had all the sandwiches and food from here and the foods are very good. And the Chinese Family is very friendly as well. On my return back today for lunch, I had the Malibu Chicken Sandwich. For $6.50, the sandwich comprised of Grilled Chicken, Grilled Ham, Melted Cheese and the usual filling in a toasted roll. And for another $1.00, I also added strips of Bacon to make the sandwich much tastier. The bacon made a huge difference in making my sandwich appetizing. For another $2.50, I also added a side of fries and a can of soda. My Meal: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IXgziwhZ-ClzW6mGLuBpsw?select=WQEeiSz_d7aX0ci4RkwA_w I haven't been here in years. The deli has just added Vietnamese sandwiches and sides. I might try them one day. My lunch totaled close to $10.00 and I paid my meal in cash. Credit Cards are accepted, but a $.50 surcharge is added. A favorite of Yelp's with the sticker is posted on the window.

Yelp
My coworkers and I love coming here for lunch! Not only are the owners very nice and fast with getting your food out to you, but the food is great! From their cheeseburger, fries, and onion rings to their vermicelli and spring rolls--everything is delicious!

Yelp
I think if a sammie shop has the cajones to call itself Viking's Giant, then the servers should be wearing pointed metal hats with horns coming out of them and matching sets of breast plates. They should also be able to sing all the arias from Wagner's Ring Cycle, but on this latter point, perhaps I'm being a little too picky. Overlooking this expectation, I am willing to admit that Viking's is a charming sleeper of a sub sandwich shop and worth a bite if you're taking a pitstop at the Glen Park BART station. It's a modest operation with a menu that stretches from breakfast to burgers to rice plates to made-to-order sandwiches. It is in this latter area that I am willing to share that what they do, they do well and fast. Jamie W. and I found ourselves here late one Saturday morning after a semi-fruitless effort to get signatures to help introduce pension reform on the ballot for November. Our political motives didn't present us from getting hungry from all the rejection on the platform. We parked ourselves in a booth and shared the $5.95 Viking Combo (pastrami, salami and ham) and the $5.50 Grilled Steak (with melted Swiss cheese). Both are served in toasted French rolls, so it was easy to follow the democratic process and go halfsies (see photos). Really hit the spot in a most unobtrusive manner. Tasty but not overdone with toppings. The Vietnamese sandwich-making sensibility of less is more appears to be the prevailing ethos here. We also shared a $1.50 basket of piping-hot krinkle-cut fries (see photo). All in all, it was a mutually agreeable election outcome for both of us. FOOD - 4 stars...good, solid sandwiches billed as subs but more Vietnamese in style AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...compact space with a few chairs and tables, but it may be better as a to-go option if it crowds up on you SERVICE - 4 stars...agreeable and pretty fast TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely would come back if in the 'hood even if I didn't have petitions to carry

Yelp
You ever used to watch the tv show Martin? Remember Hustle Man played by Tracy Morgan? If not here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8LZEhI2ZcQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player Well if Hustle Man ever owned an eatery, it'd be Vikings. You want Banh Mi? You want a salami sandwich? In the mood for an ice cream cone? How about a double cheeseburger w/fries, ham and eggs, and teriyaki chicken over rice? You name it we got it... The name is deceiving because the original owners who named the place used to make Giant submarine sandwiches. But now, they no longer serve giant subs. Vikings is more of a place for a quick bite for a reasonable price. I usually order a Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich. A regular sized sandwich with sautéed thigh meat topped with teriyaki sauce, lettuce, and tomato. A friendly Asian husband and wife team work here and have a good hustle. Gotta do whatcha gotta do. And they do. A lot of options in a basic little lunch spot.

Yelp
Nice spot for a quick grub in the Glen Park / Miraloma area when I don't feel like going somewhere else for lunch. I was feeling hungry so I came in ordering a 6-piece Chicken Nugget for $2.75 and French Fries for $1.85. The total came out to be $4.60 which seemed to be leaning toward the pricey side. A light midday snack for under $10? Affordable price range for anyone! This shop is small and there are seats available for only 9 patrons. There are bus stops for the: 23 Monterey 36 Teresita 44 O'Shaughnessy 52 Excelsior Glen Park BART Station is right across the street so public transportation is also a very convenient alternative.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE this place. Their banh mi's are my favorite! I've slowly been trying their other menu items. Ideal spot for a quick sandwich served by a friendly couple. Definitely a must try if your in the area and looking to not break the bank. If you're looking for a snack their cheese puffs are sinfully addicting :)
google avatar

Camille L.

Yelp
Cute, tiny mom-and-pop place run by an older couple with nice customer service. Son enjoyed his cheeseburger and fries.
google avatar

Juan V.

Yelp
Awesome Chicken Teriyaki sandwich. This place is great for take out. I tried their double cheeseburger which was very delicious. The service is top notch .

Kathy A.

Yelp
The beef and chicken teriyaki sandwiches are delicious, add the jalapeños. Mom and pops store, they are very nice.

Yelp
Looking for a quick bite!? My friends at Viking Giant subs always take care of me...Been going here for 10 + years!! The couple (Husband and Wife) know us by name and are always smiling, We get a mix of Chicken / Beef Terriyaki in a sub...Something like a cheese steak Sandwich, Extra Jalapeños and Swiss please!!

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I like this little mom and pop restaurant across from the Glen Park Bart station! Food is good, standard portion and they keep the price reasonable/low.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
Not sure why it's called Viking Subs but this place makes a mean Banh Mi. The owner always knew my order and remembered me when I moved away for 6 months! Stop by whenever I'm going by Glenn Park.
google avatar

Jewel S.

Yelp
Is this seriously my first review on here? Oh my gosh shame on me for waiting so long. THIS PLACE IS MY CHEESE STEAK BAE. Warning: these are not your traditional cheese steaks sandwiches. But they're so much better. *Drool moment* They make the sandwiches with the banh mi bread, the meats have this subtle teriyaki DELICIOUSNESS, and it's my favorite cheesesteak sandwich anywhere I don't care if it's not traditional. Couple who works there are so nice! I'm pretty much a regular I go at least once a week

mark A.

Yelp
You gotta try the half chicken, half teriyaki beef cheese steak with grilled jalapeños,a true glen park staple

Niya D.

Yelp
Hands down this is one of the best banh mi sandwiches in the city! Although this place has many other options I think their Vietnamese sandwiches are worth traveling to the Glen Park neighborhood for. Viking Subs is definitely one of the best kept secrets. Not only are the sandwiches here full size, but they are stuffed to the max! Make sure to tip the friendly staff extra because these sandwiches are only $5.95 each! Thank you guys!
google avatar

Santiago E.

Yelp
Solid place to get some grub. It's a good little hole in the wall if you're just uncertain on what to eat. They have burgers, sandwiches and breakfast. I stop by here when I want a fair price not too heavy food, since I'm on the go. I do recommend hitting the place up if you want something simple, could be a simple date or lunch time spot if you work in the area
google avatar

Nick R.

Yelp
Great sandwiches made by a great man. And wife. The tofu bahn mi is slapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
Consistent, affordable, friendly. Working in the neighborhood and this is my go to easy lunch spot. I know there are places near that are fancier but nothing here is disappoints. ive been satisfied every time with the customer service, the price, and the quality of food... can't say that for canyon market... every thing I've had (13 lunches in 15 days) has been simple yet good and also the exact same 2x+ in a row. Nothing fancy here consistant working man eats always... 5 stars
google avatar

Justin P.

Yelp
I am going to give them 5 stars for consistency. It is your typical greasy spoon / hamburger type place. So don't expect organic / vegan / vegetarian options. It's just a simple place to get food on the go. And they are always there, totally attentive and totally nail it down every time. So for this reason I give this place 5 stars. I usually go with the Teriyaki chicken Vietnamese sandwich add avocado.
google avatar

Edward C.

Yelp
Been a happy customer for over 15 years. Friendly service during there's a wide variety of foods to eat.
google avatar

Lolia S.

Yelp
I've been to other Viking Sandwich locations in SF and they don't seem to have much in common (the sandwiches aren't the same). This particular location has a larger menu than most, serving breakfast items, burgers, hot & cold sandwiches (tuna, roast beef, teriyaki, grilled steak), rice plates ($6.95), fries and banh mi. They have 3 types of banh mi, 3 types - chicken, ham, and tofu. They also have a case of ice cream. The tiny spot features an open kitchen where the grilling occurs. The Philly fries sounded interesting/potentially good. * Grilled chicken banh mi ($4.50) - the boneless tender chicken pieces had a flavorful marinade which tasted like teriyaki which is rather unusual for a banh mi sandwich. The meat was a bit too salty but not bad. Pickled carrots were quite crunchy and sour. I think they'd be better sweetened. The sandwich also came with mayo, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapenos. The roll was soft and toasted; not a typical banh mi roll. It's not an authentic sandwich but a decent one. The chicken would probably taste better in their teriyaki chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Lulu D.

Yelp
I ordered the Chicken Banh Mi before catching my bus home one day not expecting more than a quick lunch to fill me up. Once I ate it, I realized Viking is much more than that. The sandwich itself was a great deal for its size and amazing flavor. The chicken is grilled and seasoned perfectly and the sandwich had all the essential ingredients in a Banh mi. I was surprised and happy that I got such a great sandwich at a low price. I am definitely going back!
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
Right across from Glen Park BART I love this place when waiting for MUNI or BART. I particularly love their Viking sandwich.
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Based on only one sandwich-- this place isn't too special. The cheese steak was ok, but the bread was a little too crusty, and the sandwich was pretty small as compared to the $5 footlongs at subway. Service, however, was welcoming. We were the only ones in the small restaurant with about 6 tables. The regular clientele walks in and out and definitely seems to receive priority order-taking/handling. Will I be back? Perhaps if I really am in need of food around Glen Park BART, but probably not since La Estrella is just down the street and the cute Korean couple's convenience store is right at the corner...
google avatar

Matt N.

Yelp
Wow. I cannot believe noone has rated this place yet. The Grilled Steak Sandwich ($5.50) is really amazing. It is basically a philly cheese steak but freakin awesome. I get mine with jalapenos. I live by civic center and I take the bart over here from my house to eat by myself this place is so good. once again I am so amazed I am the first reviewer, this place is yummy.
google avatar

Gerald C.

Yelp
I love that this place sells tasty Vietnamese chicken sandwiches for $3.85, right at the Glen Park station stop that I go to before ensemble practice. Unfortunately it closes by 7pm, but as long as I get there before -- It rocks!! It's otherwise hard to find some good fast food in this nook of town. The burrito place down the street is always a long wait, and the chinese take-out place is not worth mention.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
My normal readers know I love a good char-grilled burger. So what heck make me come in here? A little hunger and and site of a french fry being consumed at the BART stations just across the street. When I asked where it came from Vikings was the answer. So here I am ordering some "steel meat" from their flattop grille. A bacon-burger with cheese, and with everything else too. You what? For steel meat it was pretty okay in a I gobbled it up, no time for the napkins, more your hand or loose your fingers in the process, kind of way. Everything was quality. Everything was fresh. The burger was assembled correctly too. Nice basket of fries and a water topped it off. Served with a smile! :-) As a bonus I asked for the restroom. I didn't need the restroom but it is nice to know one is available if needed. Do I prefer steel meat over a good flame carbonization? Hell no!. But when you need a decent burger and fries give the little hole-in-wall joint called Viking Giant Submarines a try. (you might want a sub too someday)
google avatar

Elaine Y.

Yelp
Split 3 different sandwiches with the family and while each was decent in its own sense, my favorite of the trio we ordered was Chicken Teriyaki. It was a bit messy, given the sauce, but it incited memories of the delectable Menage a Trois at Ike's. Yum! The other sandwiches we ordered were the Pork Sausage (meh, just okay) and the Steak (sort of like a Philly). Ordered all our sandwiches with a side of onion rings and fries - both were freshly fried and delicious. Crispy exterior, fluffy interior for the fries and crispy shell without a stringy onion for the rings. Can't believe I've passed Viking's all these years and never bothered to walk in. It's hardly the best sandwich I've had, but it's definitely pretty good.
google avatar

C F.

Yelp
This is NOT just another sandwich shop! These guys are the real deal. Virtually everything they make is good. Not a gourmet at all but rather, their niche is greasy spoon perfection!
google avatar

Nick K.

Yelp
The sandwiches are good, if you can get in. It has some of the weirdest hours, to a point where I think it must be a drug front. If so, fine, whatever, just don't tempt me with sandwiches that I have such a tiny window of availability.
