Vikre Distillery

My family loves to visit Vikre every time we are in Duluth! We love the large drink menu using our favorite base spirits! We always get the snack box too - Perfect pairing! Vikre is our favorite gin and our “house gin” at our home bar.

My wife and I were exploring Duluth and found this Gem! I got a flight, and my wife got a cocktail! Here is how it went... The flight... The Ovrevann Aquavit- Which was smooth and very aromatic The Voyageur Aquavit- Tasted very much like your normal spiced whiskey with a different kick Hay and Sunshine- Warm and smooth, I really enjoyed it! Temperance River Rye Whiskey- Smooth with a nice spice, hard to describe taste, bitter but in a good way! My wife got the "Airplane Mode" - a very tasty, spicy banana, vanilla, sweet cocktail that went over very well! I also wanted to shout out the service, friendly, easy to talk to staff, and the place just felt clean, light, and cozy! Thanks for a great experience!

Such a cute space with the friendliest service ever! You know you've found a good bar when they have comfy, inviting chairs and well made drinks. Thank you to all the staff who walked around our dog to serve drinks 🤣 lol. She loved laying on the floor next to the bar and getting pets (even though she is side-eying me in the photo). My only recommendation is to make the menu a little more upscale looking instead of beach bar. I think it would fit the vibe inside more.

We have been to several distilleries but never a gin and vodka one. This was an interesting place. We started with sharing 4 tasting samples and liked the strawberry rhubarb gin the best. We also tried two of their specialty drinks, the lavender lemon drop martini and the raspberry whiskey smash. Both were really tasty. Finally, we ordered the Northen waters smokehaus epic snack box. It came with smoked salmon and trout, nordic chips, cheddar cheese chunks, a cheese spread, almonds, olives, pickles, and peppers. It was ok but not worththe moneywe spent on it. Our server was not very attentive, and we had to keep asking others to help us as our table was not in the main room but off to the side with no one else around. We did leave with a bottle of the strawberry rhubarb gin.

Expresso Martini was excellent. Dirty Martini was on point. Didn’t even realize it was happy hour. (Both apply) Under their signature drinks Clique Bait was tasty with kick.

Fantastic distillery with a wide array of options and a fun atmosphere. Lots of great cocktails to choose from, as well as many flexible options for tasting flights - even give you some lime and tonic and soda water in case you want to turn your gin tasters into G & Ts! Fun to try their assortment of gins and aquavits, especially enjoyed their three herbal liquors - smoother takes on Campari, Chartreuse, and Aperol. Update - after only doing a liquor flight during our first visit, had to go back and try some cocktails! Very unique and well-crafted, especially the root beer foam in the Tragedy of Prohibition and the fusion of pineapple, coffee, hazelnut, and lime in the Tropical Goth. Fantastic notes of raspberry in the Last Word as well! Also went for the Frenchie flight - especially liked the blackberry in the Briar and the house apertivo in the Velo. Update - back in Duluth a year later, had to return to our favorite distillery! Tried their espresso martinis - one with vodka and one with aquavit - both excellent, preferred the classic vodka, but aquavit adds a unique herbal aspect. Definitely a fun summer menu this time, 'Tour of Italy' Tiny Tini Trio was a unique and fun try despite us not loving the Caesar and Pizza ones, Tiramisu was outstanding, though! Unfrozen Strawberry Daiquiri and Tokyo Vending Machine were both awesome, especially the ube foam on the daiquiri and coconut milk in the Tokyo. Herbal liquor flight is as good as ever! Always friendly service.

This is a beautiful stop in Duluth. The decor is classy and relaxing. They have a creative and diverse drink menu, including a nice selection of NA drinks. All their food options are snack sized, but enough for sharing between two people. Their vegan snack box is amazing! The staff was fun and knowledgeable. Lastly, the quality of the products were top shelf and worth the price. Pictured is the vegan snack box, whiskey flight and seltzer flight. I would have taken all their liquor selections home with me if I could, but I could only pick two. The Frenchie seltzer and the Aquavit were my choices, and they did not disappoint.

We decided to try a Distillery to end the evening and it was a delight. We tried a flight each which included their Vodka, Gin and whiskeys and Bourbon. Service was quick and the education in their products was so helpful in not wasting money and preferences. The ambiance was eclectic in furnishings and comfort preferences. I saw people on dates, women having a "girls night out", amen in office clothes winding down from a day of work. I will definitely return, maybe tonight?

Smelly, stinky, stenchy Not for me It smelled so bad like sulfur or horse hooves that I couldn't enjoy my experience or drinks We were sat in the back by the brewing tanks, maybe others didn't notice it as much or just don't mind. It smelled like egg farts as soon as we walked in. The serving staff was wonderful, the presentation was classy, but it was not for me 100% will never try a gin stop again

Vikre Distillery has a great cocktail room! Loved their selection of creative cocktails and snack boxes. We ordered the frenchie flight, a savory aquavit cocktail (pining for the fjords), and the vegan snack box. Loved everything except for the aquavit cocktail, but I probably should have ordered something else in the first place. Frenchie flight was great if you're not into spirit forward drinks, they were real easy to drink. Was pretty impressed with the vegan snackbox. It was $19 but did include vegan sausage and vegan cheese. It was a good amount of snack food for 2 to 3 people. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it did start to get pretty full. It does look like they have an online waitlist on their website if you're going at a busy time. Our server was really friendly and made great and honest recommendations. However, there was a longer wait to put in our order and we had to put some effort into flagging down a server to get our check.

Finally got a chance to stop in and try this bar out. I usually would stop by and pick up a drink kit to go but I had an evening just to chill so perfect opportunity. I had a couple of their summer drinks. I loved how many of the drinks were expertly crafted with house made syrups like pistachio orgeat, brown sugar syrup, pecan falernum, and black currant syrup. If none of those sound familiar, don't fear. Their menu is unique and well thought out to compliment their own liquor but the classics can be found here as well. Prices were very generous considering the amount of elements added to each one. Expect about $10-15 a drink. This place reminded me of a true to form tiki bar or craft bar, where love and craft is put into each drink. Bonus that they are steps to the iconic lift bridge and lake walk. I did not try it but I definitely eyed a couple that was eating the norther waters salmon pate, it looked and smelled amazing. Next time...

This is the second time I have been to Vikre and both experiences have been wonderful. It's located in the canal park area just less then a block from the lift bridge. There was a very small wait to get our group seated at a table. The staff was honest about how long the wait could be which I appreciated! The decor is rustic, casual and very welcoming. The drink choices looked amazing! I decided to have the cocktail called "Cruel Summer". The ingredients I included H&S whiskey, passion fruit, pineapple juice, pistachio orgeat, hibiscus-infused Amaro Superiore. The color of this drink was cute and it tasted really amazing! All the flavors blended really well! Definitely make this a stop when visiting Duluth!

One of my favorite places to stop whenever I visit Duluth. Vikre made a gin drinker out of me. I recommend trying a flight just to understand and appreciate their offerings, but their cocktails are also excellent. When the weather is good, don't forget the adorable patio in the back.

The Sherry Baby was honestly one of the best cocktails I have ever had. I took their "gin quiz" online to see what I would like best and chose a drink based on that and WOW did they hit it just right. This had their Juniper Gin in it with some sort of banana simple syrup, chocolate bitters and a few other things I don't remember. Just wonderful! I felt so relaxed - great atmosphere to hang out with h friends. The service was great! Seated right away but it got busy after about a half hour. The server was very knowledgeable and had great suggestions for each spirit my husband tried (use in a mixed drink vs standalone, etc.) Can't wait to go back!

I've always wanted to check out Vikre Distillery, but since it's so busy, we have never been able to get a table on our trips to Duluth. Discovering that you join the waitlist online in advance (find the info on their website!) was a game changer! I was sooo excited to finally check it out recently. From the atmosphere to the staff to the drinks -- Vikre is top notch. Our waitress answered all of our questions and gave some great recommendations. I went with the Gimlet with the Spruce Gin. They use a vanilla salt in it, which boosted all the flavors and made this one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I will 100% come back to Vikre anytime I'm in the area!

Vikre Distillery is a hip, unusual, steampunk spot near the waterfront of Duluth. It's best to make reservations beforehand. We got the "scratch made soda" ($4) and enjoyed it as it wasn't too sweet. The "Journey Home" ($12) is a tasty cocktail with chestnut and spruce gin. Get this. Lastly, we loved that they have a couple labeled vegan snack options (apparently some of the staff is vegan). The "all flora and no fauna epic snack box" ($19) consists of house-made cheese, seitan and hummus; it also comes with crackers and candied nuts and peppers. We enjoyed it, though were baffled by the equally epic amount of plastic packaging that comes with it. Stop by Vikre Distillery for an awesome cocktail and a tasty vegan snack.

We always try to stop at Vikre when in Duluth! Love that you can check the virtual waiting room to see if you can get a table. Drinks were fantastic. We had the Merci, Baku, Beetersweet Symphony and the Alpenglow.

My friend and I came for 1 drink but I could have stayed all evening. Delicious drinks, amazing service and a great spot to socialize and play games.

Chill hangout on the back patio with a view of the lake Fun place to kill some time and enjoy the nice weather Employees were charming and very helpful/descriptive Had a variety of the drinks which were all great. Our favorite was the house cinnamon whiskey served in ice shot glasses. Delicious!

Fantastic craft cocktails in a great, rustic industrial environment. They really know their game and the friendly staff will be happy to explain you all about their home made spirits (and the cocktails). A great way to start (or end) your day and one of these few really great bars out there.

Jeff, Bob/Bird, and I had just enjoyed a nice dinner at Grandma's and a pleasant walk to admire the Bridge and the associated waterfront. As we were walking back to the car, and being a sucker for brew pubs and distilleries, I noticed Vikre and dragged my friend across the street to take a look. My Vikre Experience is take-out only. And I have my almost empty bottle of Honor Brand Hay and Sunshine (a delicious mix of Bourbon, Rye, and Scotch to prove it). I also made it a point to take a small flask of this on my recent Earthwatch trip to the Peruvian Amazon. What I enjoyed during my brief visit was a very helpful and knowledgeable counter person, a great display of Vikre's creations in the front, the handsome interior, and of course the product that I purchased. Although I'm only giving Vikre 4 Stars today, I hope to have a fuller sit down experience in the future.

Loved the vibe of this place. Service was so friendly and attentive. We had a variety of drinks and snacks. Love that they use different glasses for different drinks each time you order and that they provide mixer for the gin and vodka samplers. The gin and vodka are both quite good.

A lovely cocktail room on the shore of Lake Superior. The drinks are mainly riffs on classics, but they work to use infusions and additives to give you something you'd have trouble achieving at home. Their spirits are excellent, particularly the gin expressions. They are relatively kid friendly, and you'll usually see at least one family until the late night. It is also a great place to come at that late night, the vibe in winter is pretty chill and it's a great place to sit by a fire and drink an Old Fashioned. Vikre is one of our major Minnesota success stories. I *do* wish they served snacks that were more family friendly. The main things you can get are smoked fish forward, which is not palatable to most kiddos (and frankly, not even to my mother in law). I recognize the desire to showcase our local products, but um, Von Hanson's is a local product too? A bit of accessibility would help just bc it allows me to come without alienating my less-adventurous relations.

Always a joy to visit when up from southern Minnesota. The spirits are excellent with the Spruce Gin our fave but the Cedar is mighty good, too. Enjoy the vibe and ambiance while enjoying a cocktail or flight.

Heard that's one of Minnesota's best distilleries, so I came here on a snow-stormy day to try my luck. Both Elizabeth and Jorden are super friendly. I had fun trying out the flight and was really impressed by everything I tried here. They are all locally produced. I got a bottle of Voyageur Aquavit, the Scandinavian whisky with caraway and more. Such a great addition to my home collection.

This place is super nice. Really good and thought out drinks. Excellent spirits and environment as well. Would recommend AND the tours they provide.

Beautiful gin distillery located in canal park. We loved that they had a wide range of classic, NA, and modern cocktails. Service was great, drinks were delicious, and we were obsessed with their vintage glassware.

Stopped her for a cocktail. Had to wait awhile for a spot to sit, but there were some things nearby to occupy us. I loved the space. Cocktails were unique. I was actually sort of surprised they didn't have more on the menu. I liked how they had three types of gin!

What a fun place to enjoy some excellent cocktails with locally made spirits! The beginning of our visit was a bit frustrating - since the space is so small, customers don't have to wait there and can go wonder around while waiting for a table to open up. However, we heard the hostess telling people that she gave everyone 15 minutes before seating someone else in the table, even if the customers didn't confirm they still wanted the table. This led to lots of people waiting a long time (we were told an hour) or even getting turned away, even though at one point half of the tables were empty. That said, it was a super busy weekend so we gave them a bit of slack. The cocktails though - 10/10. I thought the flavors were interesting and well balanced and the presentation was beautiful. We didn't order any food, but they had a few snacks and small bites available. Would visit again, and would have definitely purchased a bottle or two of the spirits if we weren't flying back home the next day!

A shared flight of gin, aquavit and whisky. His cocktail was aquavit, gin and snap pea. And I had a black currant and coconut cold press coffee that was incredibly good and I ended up having two of them. And the snack box came with a plate so I assembled it as a charcuterie board. The box had smoked salmon and smoked trout and some local cheeses. Olives peppers nuts gherkins. Was an amazing place. Everything was perfect. All the staff were friendly and attentive.

Excited to try this place after great reviews. Had to flag down the server because I was alone and she passed me four times. Ordered an old fashioned and waited...she came back and ID'd me (I'm almost 50) and said she got nervous when people were there alone...? I watched other parties seated after me and get drinks and food, while still waiting for my drink. Finally left after waiting 25 minutes. I won't be back and suggest others skip it.

Holy crap. Please move to Chicago. Honestly I just found three new gins I like and up to this point its been Nolet or nothing. The spruce and the cedar are mind blowing. The cocktails well they are just a whole other level. Service was stellar. Was texting my friend who sells liquor and my friend who owns a restaurant in Chicago. His response, "I have 2 flight boards being made already! Same page, my friend!" If you're in to craft distillers and you missed this while visiting Duluth you failed! So glad my wife found this. Run, don't walk, you'll have more time for cocktails.

Came here for a birthday cocktail for one of our friends after leaving the Boundary Waters while we were staying in Duluth. This place is awesome. Great down-to-earth people, excellent service, women owned (!!!!), and of course, wonderful cocktails. We sampled a variety of their favorites, and all of us were blown away. Don't miss this spot if you're in Duluth!

Vikre Distillery is a solid spot in the Canal Park area if you want a cocktail break from all the breweries! Their menu rotates which is pretty fun, too! If you are visiting on a weekend evening, the wait was pretty long (over an hour) for my group, so you should plan ahead!! Checking in and then getting dinner during the wait time would work perfectly to avoid losing too much time. The drinks were great, and the garnishes were impressive too! The bartender spoke super intelligently about his leather working background where he learned the garnish techniques. We also got two to-go cocktail kits which were packaged very beautifully. I would highly recommend if you feel like the bars closed too early for you, or you want to bring a gift for your host! I deducted a star because their main/signature cocktail (the Frenchie) is canned which is kind of disappointing for a distillery. However, the cocktails we tried were great! I would most recommend the old fashioned, but truly nothing pictured disappointed.

Great cocktails and wonderful service. The cocktails were so good that we got a kit to go. Wish I would have been told that I needed a shaker, but we made it work. The only thing that was like "really?" was the appetizer...salmon/cream cheese spread (mostly cream cheese) with crostini. 7 pieces of crostini and small plastic container (I mean small...like a Parmesan container that you sometimes get with a take out pizza). Spreading the cheese/salmon was difficult because it was fairly cold and there wasn't enough to always cover the crostini. For $7.00 and an appetizer that was mostly cream cheese and not salmon, Vikre Distillery should give 2 containers. Next time, we will skip the appetizer.

Tried a whiskey drink with a Cabernet wine foam that was TO DIE FOR!! So good. Tried a flight of gin too which were all very tasty. Cool vibes and great service. Check it out!

What a beautiful distillery! We had a nice visit recently going on their tour. We also got some snacks before the tour that were super good! The pretzel sticks came with dill butter and mustard. Then we got spiced pecans which were tasty too. The tour was free and started at 5:30pm. Overall a great tour but, seemed a bit rehearsed. Not a bad thing though. My favorite area was learning about the Barrell room. It was beautiful but, this is where people started to ask more questions and things seemed more relaxed. This is definitely a your you should go to if visiting Duluth!

If you want great drinks there's no better place in Canal Park. If you want a drink after 9:30pm look elsewhere. Unfortunately they close at 10pm. What a shame, and it's a disservice to visitors from out of town to close at 10pm on Friday and Saturday night.

Cool old fashioned/rustic distillery! Took a day trip to Duluth and stumbled upon this distillery. We stopped in to grab a drink. The bartender was nice & friendly. He made suggestions on other places to check out & things to do while visiting Duluth. I tried a mixed cocktail with gin. It was really good & strong. They do free tours at certain times in the day but you can see the machines throughout the distillery which is cool. Like most breweries/distillery's they have board games and stuff to keep you entertained if you want to hang around. The seating area isn't huge but big enough for small town Duluth. They even have a little gift shop. We parked a little ways away and walked/adventured around town when we found Vikre but there is off street parking. Located right by the lift bridge!

My husband and I enjoyed a lazy day in Canal Park and since we love small batch distilleries had to check out Vikre! We love Norseman in Minneapolis and really like the distilleries that encourage grabbing a drink, taking in the distilling process, and hanging out for a bit. Vikre has mastered this almost better than any distillery we've been to. Their board games, comfortably old fashioned chic gathering room, and reasonable prices make them a triple threat! I tried the special drink, Bramble On, with Hay & Sunshine Whiskey and loved the bitterish rhubarb syrup. It was just the right blend of slightly sweet, crisp, and refreshing! My husband's Really Old Fashioned was super strong but citrusy and good. We played a mean game of Battle Ship (bonus points for having all the pieces in all the game boxes!) while enjoying our cocktails and will be back next time we are in Duluth!

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting this venue during our brief visit to Duluth! Awesome service, ambiance, and light food options complemented our delicious cocktails containing Vikre gins, whiskeys, and aquavit! Will definitely make this stop on future annual visits to Duluth!

My girlfriends and I went to this distillery last night while on vacation in Duluth. It's located on the pier so killing time while we waited for a table was no problem. We were really impressed to learn this is a women owned and operated business! The staff was friendly and informative. The menu was extensive. All the cocktails came in unique and vintage glass wear. We felt fancying trying each other's drinks. The group favorite was the murder hornet that mixes sweet honey with sharp spices. Next time I'm back in Duluth I will visit again!

Service was phenomenal; their bartenders and waiters were so friendly and very knowledgeable! Ambiance was neat, cool decor. Great location.

I heard about Vikre at a gin event in St. Louis and knew I had to try it out. I had a gin and tonic with the Boreal Juniper Gin. It was bright and floral with a hint of cinnamon. It was really tasty, and you could tell Vikre took the time to create the perfect gin. The space is really cool too - takes you back to prohibition times. And it's located right before the lift bridge so you can't miss it!

That Nordic hot chocolate was by far the most interesting hot chocolate I've ever had in my life. A one time experience that I don't regret, but wouldn't try again. Also tried a gin and tonic - the spruce gin is good enough that it's the first time I've purchased a bottle of gin from a distillery to take home. Great service in the midst of covid.

Great service & drinks superb atmosphere. The light eats were locally sourced and delicious ! Only negative is a long mysterious walk to the shared restroom area.

Nice place with a cool vibe. Whiskey, gin, and vodka drinks. They do a great job and have some great specialties. A little pricey.... But worth checking out!

Vikre Distillery is a must go to spot in Duluth. Walk in and you will be greeted by the bartenders, look through the list of creative cocktails or get a sampler of their different spirits. Doing both is fun! I've been here a couple of times and the atmosphere is so cute. The glasses they serve drinks in look like glasses you'd find in your grandmas cabinet. They're all different and unique. The bartenders are crazy skilled cocktail artists. Half the fun is watching them make drinks! Free tours at 5:30pm every day. They ask you to buy a drink and tour while sipping. I didn't catch the tour but this looks like an interesting place. I tried a flight and it was a lot for me. I don't normally drink straight booze these days. My wife got a cocktail. I liked the cocktail and I will order a cocktail next time. The straight whiskey was good and strong. You may want to eat before trying a flight. I can't wait to go back and do the tour.

This is a cute little gin distillery in the downtown area of Duluth. They make seasonal cocktails and regularly change them up. Have you ever been to a gin distillery? I have not.. and it was a nice experience to grab a cocktail and enjoy the seating/company. It's a great place to go for a yummy drink and sit somewhere that you can actually have a conversation. The bartenders are also friendly and the cocktails will not break the bank! I went with a regular gin and tonic being the purist that I am. However, they have a great selection of craft cocktails!

During a last-minute road trip to Duluth on Saturday for my mom's birthday, we stopped into Vikre Distillery to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised that it was as good as the Yelp reviews say! We called ahead to see if we could bring in our small dog and food from Northern Waters Smokehaus. They said yes to both, but informed us we could only bring our pup in the bar area (not upstairs). We had a great, cozy spot in the back corner of the bar area to enjoy our delicious cocktails. The downstairs bar area doesn't have any seats, but there are plenty of seats upstairs in the lounge area. My favorite cocktail was the Swedish Sno Cone. Adam H. enjoyed a few gin Old Fashioneds. The antique glassware and specialized ice cubes made the whole cocktail experience top notch. We didn't have time to stay for the 5:30pm free tour, but if we find ourselves back in Duluth, Vikre will definitely be on our itinerary!

Worth the wait! I had good vibes about this place when I put our name in so I encouraged our group to wait it out. It was a Saturday night so it was about an hour. I'm so glad we stayed. I love aquavib and the flight they had was no exception. Everyone move their drinks. I can't remember the name of mine but it had hints of chocolate and it was amazing. I also had a Negroni and it was top notch!

What a great distillery! Unfortunately they were out of the single malt (for sale) but we were able to try a "wee dram" from the bar. Probably one of the finest single malts I'd ever had. We stumbled upon this fine establishment while visiting Duluth and Canal Park and so glad we went in. Staff couldn't have been nicer or friendlier as we had many questions about they're different products. I had a Old Fashioned and a Manhattan, both made with Hay & Sunshine Whiskey.....delicious! My wife had the Sidecar, wow....she gave me a sip! This is a DEFINITE stop while visiting Duluth!
