"It will surprise you, as it occupies what was once the luxurious events room of the Vila Foz H. & SPA, an evocative 19th-century mansion located opposite Praia do Homem do Leme. Here, surrounded by elegant frames, period goldwork, original lamps and mirrors inspired by grand palatial residences, discover the gourmet cuisine of Chef Arnaldo Azevedo, who through his menus Novo Mundo (entirely vegetarian) and Maresia (more focused on Atlantic products, playing with the tides’ rhythm) champions a contemporary style of cooking that highlights the flavours of Portugal’s fantastic fish and seafood. Curious facts? In what used to be the bar, there is a counter in front of the stoves, where they also offer a far more personal, intimate, and intense option called the “Kitchen Seat” reserved exclusively for just two diners and where… the experience is enhanced by constant interaction with the chef!" - Michelin Inspector

Vila Foz Hotel & Spa, Porto, Portugal - Explore & Book

"There are lots of reasons for choosing the seafront Foz do Douro quarter as a base for exploring beautiful Porto. This well-heeled neighbourhood has leafy promenades, sandy beaches, appealing boutiques and a thriving food scene. A short tram or cab ride gets you to the city’s vibrant historic centre. And now a new reason: this dramatic reinvention of eye-catching luxury, perched just a few steps from the beach. What was once a grand 19th-century palace has now doubled in size, thanks to a bold contemporary extension. The result: an intriguing mix of old and new, courtesy of renowned Madeiran designer Nini Andrade Silva (she of Funchal's Savoy Palace, among other design hotels). Bedrooms in the manor house come with high moulded ceilings, marbled walls and made-to-measure furniture; in the new wing, expect big ocean views and curving patterns reminiscent of Atlantic breakers. All are sumptuous, unrestrained, full of textures and luxuries. This is not for minimalists; it is - as staff like to say - for 'ninimalists'. Meanwhile, in the Michelin-starred Vila Foz restaurant, acclaimed chefs present sublime freshly caught seafood; or you can lunch in the less formal Flor de Lis or on the sea-facing terrace. The vibe is lavish, yes, but the service is super-friendly. This is Porto done the five-star way, and we loved every bit of it. Highs With its lavish interiors, spectacular ocean views and high end service, Vila Foz is perfect for those seeking proper 5-star luxury The food is a cut above, from traditional Portuguese lunches and Michelin-star dinners to oysters and champagne for breakfast! We love this true city neighbourhood, with quirky shops and restaurants beloved by discerning 'Tripeiros' - plus endless horizons The service is impeccable but never stiff; the staff are unfailingly friendly Beach lovers can enjoy doorstep access to the sea, plus more gorgeous beaches within easy reach, as are the must-see historic sights of Porto (only 15 minutes away by tram) Lows Some may find the mix of old and new a little jarring; and be aware that most bedrooms are in a newer, cubical wing (but these have better sea views) There’s no outdoor pool and under 16s aren’t allowed in the indoor one (a plus for some!) The beautifully designed spa is expensive, but it gets rave reviews There are no extra beds, but you can request connecting rooms (and all rooms can be set up with twin beds if preferred)" - Kate Parsons

"If you hear your hosts at Vila Foz Hotel & Spa talking about “Ninimalism,” it’s not a mistranslation, and the pun is fully intended. The Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva has been known to design-oriented travelers since long before the current boom in Portuguese design hotels, and her signature style is on display here at Vila Foz. It’s a stunning, ornate 19th-century manor house on Porto’s Atlantic coast, and while its architecture has been meticulously restored, its interior design — especially in the guest rooms — is beautifully contemporary, just like everything we’ve seen from Ms. Andrade Silva over the years." - Tablet Hotels

My husband and I had the immense pleasure of staying at Vila Foz Hotel & Spa to celebrate our third wedding anniversary, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From start to finish, the entire experience was wonderful. The staff were truly great, and it genuinely felt as though nothing was too much trouble for them, which added so much to our stay. A particular highlight was the cocktail-making experience with Diogo. He was fantastic, and he made the session so special and personal for us. We would absolutely, without a doubt, recommend this experience to anyone staying at the hotel. It was a perfect and memorable way to celebrate. Beyond the exceptional service and experiences, our balcony room was a true highlight, offering stunning sea views that we enjoyed every morning. It was an absolute delight to have breakfast on the terrace, soaking up the beautiful Porto sunshine whilst enjoying the incredible food. Thank you, Vila Foz, for a truly amazing stay!

Hats off to the chef and the sommelier! I had dinner at Vila Foz and it was spectacular. The service was wonderful, the food was divine, and the wine pairings elevated every single thing I ate. Truly well done. I hope to come back to enjoy this again!

Vila Foz Hotel & Spa is a beautifully restored mansion that blends old-world charm with modern luxury. Just steps from the Atlantic, it offers stunning ocean views and a serene atmosphere that makes it perfect for a relaxing escape. Rooms are spacious, tastefully designed, and well-equipped with high-end touches like memory foam beds and designer bathroom amenities. Many feature balconies or terraces overlooking the sea – a definite highlight. The staff are warm and professional, creating a sense of understated luxury from the moment you arrive. From the welcome drink to the valet and concierge services, you feel well looked after. The spa, indoor pool, and sauna also provide a peaceful haven after exploring the city. Vila Foz features two on-site restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Vila Foz, known for its refined seafood-focused tasting menus served in an opulent, historic dining room. The bar is also worth mentioning – the barkeeper makes an excellent Bloody Mary, probably one of the best in town. Breakfast, on the other hand, only just meets expectations. It’s fresh and adequate, but nothing special for a hotel of this calibre. A few other minor areas could be improved: the pool area could use more loungers, and service – while generally excellent – varies slightly depending on the staff member. These small details prevent a perfect score but don’t overshadow the overall experience. A luxurious and memorable stay in Porto, ideal for those who appreciate sophisticated design, excellent food, and a touch of the sea breeze. Vila Foz delivers calm elegance with just a few areas left to perfect

One of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in Portugal. I had the unforgettable opportunity to celebrate my 50th birthday at a Michelin-starred restaurant, which made the experience even more special. The view from the property was stunning, the service was outstanding, and every detail exceeded my expectations. The pool area was beautifully designed and perfect for relaxing, and the massages were incredibly soothing and rejuvenating. Everything was top-notch. A truly exceptional place – I wholeheartedly recommend it!

I can't say enough how much we loved our stay in Villa Foz. We didn't want to leave. The staff from the valet to the reception to the wait staff were very accommodating and welcoming. They gave us a room early as we were in a bind leaving a bad Airbnb. They even went out of the way to help us stay in another room when they had little availability. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely trip. The rooms are lovely and clean and very well appointed. This is an excellent location for calming relaxation yet close to the city. Every detail was on point and all of needs were met and expectations exceeded. Excellent food even on the kids menus. Don't hesitate..book it!

AVOID THIS PLACE! Absolutely terrible experience! The management clearly cares more about their policies than the comfort and needs of their guests. They canceled our reservation without informing us—we only found out when we arrived, with no heads up or apology. To make matters worse, they refused to let our 12-year-old use the pool at any time during our stay. If you're traveling with children, DO NOT stay here! Beatriz, the so-called manager, couldn't have been more unhelpful- doesn’t care!!! Additionally they left us standing on the street with our bags at 6:30 pm, and didn’t even offer to help us find another hotel or give us a ride. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other hotels out there that will actually care about their guests! Avoid the stress and book somewhere else.

What a beautiful architectural marvel, The Vila Foz Hotel & Spa. A stunning castle capsule locked in time, overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean of Portugal, with breathtaking views. I had the opportunity to walk the beautiful sandy beaches of O Obelisco da Memória, where both sides were lined as far as the eye could see with delicious, edible sea mussels. I later stopped into a local tavern on the beach to sit back and enjoy the blazing sun while I sipped on a Coca-Cola. I retreated to my room, having arranged a body massage one unlike any I’ve ever experienced. The massage began with a foot bath followed by a foot massage. I was then guided into unmatched spa-like relaxation. I felt as if I were like Jello, I returned to my room that evening and passed out. The following day, all I could think about was how loose my body felt. Of all the massages I’ve had throughout my travels around the world, from one country to the next, this was truly the best I’ve ever experienced! It was so good, I decided to check in for a second night just to book another massage this time with lava rocks. The castle was fairly priced prestige pricing, if you wanted to know $700.00 a night, plus extras like massages and food. But all in all, it’s definitely rated in my top 10 stays along my travels. The castle itself was one of a kind, with a historical theme and a vintage Rolls parked out front as an ornament to the estate! I would highly recommend this stop if you're looking for something noble and prestigious. I look forward to returning to Portugal, but only when I have more time to truly take in its beauty.
