Yelp
My entire family of 9 just returned from an 8-day stay at Vila Vita Parc.
While the grounds and amenities are exceptional, there is SO much more to be desired....especially on the service front. We do not recommend this resort- especially for families with young children.
First, we'll start with the positives:
-Incredible well-maintained grounds.
-Lots of activities and amenities available: pickleball, golf, spa, volleyball etc.
-Solaris 44 Yacht experience was fabulous! The crew and food were spectacular.
-Ocean Restaurant was a delightful culinary experience. The service was fantastic.
-Included Breakfast is expansive and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Negatives:
-The service at many of the restaurants was unacceptable. The servers are disorganized, overwhelmed and incompetent. Ask not once, not twice but three times to get your glass of wine delivered to the table...and you're lucky if you ever receive it at all. We were traveling in a large group with a 6-year old in tow...so leaving a 3-hour dinner at 11pm wasn't exactly what we were hoping for in a 5-star resort. We picked Villa Vita for ease of access to these restaurants but it ended up being one of the biggest cruxes to our trip. I WILL give them props: The food is generally very good when it does finally come out- but by the end of the week, the party was traveling off-resort for dinner just to avoid the service-related issues.
-Children are not allowed anywhere on the front side of the resort (expect the beach and connecting path)! This was not at all clear on the VVP website so imagine our surprise after flying 6 hours from Boston and driving 2 hours from Lisbon to sit down with our 6 year-old sun on the gorgeous tiered lawns you see in all the photos. NOPE think again!!! Instead, we were stuck at the Oasis/Health spa pools with no views of the cliffs or water!!! Don't get me wrong they're nice pools and all, but we could've saved a lotta time/money and flew to Florida if we'd known all we'd be seeing was palm trees.
-The beach may look beautiful from all the pictures and videos on the website, but BOY does the VVP marketing team deserve a raise! The beach mediocre at best. Once you're down the stone stairs to the initial platform you'll see it: unraked & filled with seaweed and sand fleas. Theres also no service for food and drink down there? NO thank you. Don't know any 5 star resort that would call this acceptable....
-There is one hot-tub on resort and it was never hot! The cold plunge was luke warm.
-The night club they tote on the website is non-existent if you arrive in June. Again, bravo marketing department!
- Midway through the trip it was time for the special Cigar Experience we had booked for the men in our party...way back in March mind you. The guys showed up to the location noted in our booking on 6.19 at 10:00pm and none of the staff members had any knowledge of the event....nor did they even to know what a Cigar Experience was!!!! There was very little attempt to rebound and continue with the experience, instead we received flustered apologies from the seemingly overwhelmed staff members (who said they could see my booking but had not been notified the event manager). The General Manager of the hotel did provide desserts/teas in the lobby as his token of dedication to making things right, but by this point we had all had enough.
-DO NOT stay in the off-resort properties/apartments. They are dated, ugly and a far walk to the rest of the resort- especially if you're in heels on the way to dinner.
In the end, our entire party was left with a bad taste in our mouth.
We spoke to the manager Jose who listened to all these concerns but seemed completely out of touch with the reality of the serviced-based issues at the resort.
He explained the Portuguese culture of long-drawn out meals (which we can appreciate but not fully understand as Americans), but that didn't explain the general disorganization or tell us that he understood his International clientele.
As a final apology Jose offered my husband and I a wonderful experience in Vila Vitas wine cellar. He generously comped the whole meal. Both the service and food were amazing. It's nice to see that management cares, but unfortunately this didn't erase our feelings or give us back the experience we feel our party of 9 paid for at a so-called world-renowned resort.
