The Best Family-Friendly Hotels in Portugal

"Few resorts have as much on offer as Vila Vita Parc, which is one of the rare properties that cater to a large number of people, including families, but manages to feel peaceful and private. With an impressive 10 restaurants—including one with two Michelin stars—plus six bars, a golf course, and a Sisley spa, there’s enough to keep you occupied for a fortnight. Guests can choose from ocean or garden-view rooms, one-bedroom or family-sized, and even rooftop suites. Exteriors are unmistakably Portuguese, with whitewashed walls and blue accents throughout, but what really stands out here is the amount of space available to guests. While the resort welcomes all visitors, it’s undoubtedly a family-friendly property, with a Kids’ Club, on-site playground, and crèche available to look after babies from six months. There are six pools throughout the property and endless green space for young ones to enjoy. They share it with local birdlife, which lives on-site and makes for wonderful spotting opportunities for adults and kids alike."

The 26 Best Beachfront Hotels in Europe

"Algarve, Portugal This is the grand dame of the Algarve’s resorts, with something for everyone. Private yacht with which to set sail on the seas? Tick. Two Michelin-star restaurant? Tick. Extraordinary wine cellar? Tick. The country’s only Sisley Spa? Tick. Brilliant kid’s club? Tick. And so, it goes on. The choice of restaurants is huge, ranging from Michelin star dining at Ocean, where you really must try Chef Hans Neuner’s sublime dishes, to traditional Portuguese favorites at Adega, Japanese teppanyaki and sushi at Mizu, and tuna tartare and salmon poke bowls next to the infinity pool at Whale. They have their own private beach, great shops, and tip-top service throughout the 202 rooms and villas dotted around the 54 acres of sub-tropical garden. —Mary Lussiana Distance to the water: On the beach Travel time: 45 minute drive from Faro Airport Price: Rooms from around $240 per night" - Lauren Burvill

Vila Vita Parc

"The stunning natural beauty and bracing sea air of Portugal’s Algarve region are medicine on their own. But taking it up a notch is the spa at Vila Vita Parc, which occupies its own, dedicated building and whose treatment menu was created in partnership with French spa leader Sisley. With a brand like that behind the place, it’s no surprise that skincare is a focus, calling upon products that incorporate botanical extracts and essential oils. Expect pore-tightening facials, toning body treatments, and medical-grade pedi-cures (get it?) from legendary podiatrist Margaret Dabbs. On the activity side of wellness, there are personal trainers on hand for custom workouts and deep dives into the HYPOXI Method, which is said to combine vacuum therapy with a moderate workout routine and balanced nutrition plan to eradicate stubborn fat deposits, eliminate fluid retention, tone the skin, and accelerate metabolism. The spa takes a holistic, body-soul-mind approach to wellness, and to that end, it has a garden yoga pavilion for private, group, and aerial classes."

A Trip to Portugal's Coastal Beach Towns and Cities - AFAR

"I checked into the 170-room Vila Vita Parc, perched on a clifftop overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The property is set on 54 tropical acres and features six bars and 11 restaurants (including a farm- and sea-to-table restaurant, Ocean, with two Michelin stars), three swimming pools, a spa with 14 treatment rooms, a new multi-sports field, a pitch and putt, driving range, and indoor gym. Vila Vita also has five newly launched villas called the Masterpiece Collection that offer ultimate privacy, a butler service, private pool, and views that overlook a sapphire-colored ocean." - Kristin Braswell

First class resort with a very friendly and engaging staff. Excellent chefs! Gorgeous views for breakfast, right on a beautiful beach and the cliff walk. Spa facility was fantastic - massages were very helpful! Highly recommend it!

What stands out about the resort is the friendly, efficient and top notch service. The staff on site were fantastic. I enjoyed the room which was comfortable and spacious. Another great quality is the number of restaurants owned by the resort. Adega was fantastic and the food at Bela Vita and Praia Dourada were also great. The daily breakfast was top notch. The downside was my family’s experience at dinner at Arte Nautica. The restaurant was cold, the waiters were unprofessional and the food was underwhelming. However the Manager at Vila Vita did his best to compensate us for the experience at Arte Nautica. All in all I would recommend Vila Vita for a holiday in Algarve.

This is our second time staying at Vila Vita Parc. We also stayed last year. It is a top resort with unmatched service and breathtaking views. There are so many things to do on the property and small towns to visit to soak up the culture. We rented a car and had no problem driving from Porto to Porches. The morning breakfast is amazing. We will be returning next year.

The resort is beautiful, immerse in a natural.park, it's a pleasure just walking around. All restaurants are really good and there is enough choice for family with kids as well. The houses are very nicely decorated, and the service is amazing, everyone is really nice, a big thanks to the kids park and the babysitter Beatrice who gave us some free time!

This was the best stay / new years eve we've had for a number of years. Amazing.|The service and attention to detail was impeccable. The themed Hollywood Chic cocktail party was the perfect start to a great evening.||Dinner at Mizu was amazing and breakfast at the Atlantic on the terrace was just a special way to finish our stay.

Incredible trip, hotel and service was flawless. Amazing for kids and the whole family. All the food was delicious, excellent breakfast and dinner options. Wonderful activities and lots to do - tennis, pickleball, mini- golf, spa, beach walks, kids club, gym etc. our favourite restaurants were Arte Nautica on the beach and Adega for Portuguese food.

Google
Absolutely true - this is the most beautiful resort under the sun. The staff are excellent and despite the resort being at maximum capacity during the Christmas week, we were always attended to with kindness. The breakfast is a must! Waking up to deliciousness by the ocean was something we enjoyed every morning. The walks around the resort are also delightful, but we spent hours sitting by the pool or staring into the ocean. We had ocean facing rooms with balconies - which I highly recommend. I could spend the whole day in the room. The only word of caution - we were recommended a restaurant in town by one of our servers, but eating raw oysters in Algarve may not be the best idea. We came down with nasty noro virus that we brought back with us to the UK/US.

Google
The Vila Vita is ticking all the boxes when it comes to a luxurious property, with an amazing team, and a service that is exceeding all expectations. Location is stunning but combine that with a heavenly property and a professional service team and you arrive at a place you never want to leave. |The concierge is superb, the new year eve party fabulously orchestrated, the day-to-day program entertainingly put together, and breakfast is a feast every single moment. |Thank you so much.

Yelp
My entire family of 9 just returned from an 8-day stay at Vila Vita Parc. While the grounds and amenities are exceptional, there is SO much more to be desired....especially on the service front. We do not recommend this resort- especially for families with young children. First, we'll start with the positives: -Incredible well-maintained grounds. -Lots of activities and amenities available: pickleball, golf, spa, volleyball etc. -Solaris 44 Yacht experience was fabulous! The crew and food were spectacular. -Ocean Restaurant was a delightful culinary experience. The service was fantastic. -Included Breakfast is expansive and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Negatives: -The service at many of the restaurants was unacceptable. The servers are disorganized, overwhelmed and incompetent. Ask not once, not twice but three times to get your glass of wine delivered to the table...and you're lucky if you ever receive it at all. We were traveling in a large group with a 6-year old in tow...so leaving a 3-hour dinner at 11pm wasn't exactly what we were hoping for in a 5-star resort. We picked Villa Vita for ease of access to these restaurants but it ended up being one of the biggest cruxes to our trip. I WILL give them props: The food is generally very good when it does finally come out- but by the end of the week, the party was traveling off-resort for dinner just to avoid the service-related issues. -Children are not allowed anywhere on the front side of the resort (expect the beach and connecting path)! This was not at all clear on the VVP website so imagine our surprise after flying 6 hours from Boston and driving 2 hours from Lisbon to sit down with our 6 year-old sun on the gorgeous tiered lawns you see in all the photos. NOPE think again!!! Instead, we were stuck at the Oasis/Health spa pools with no views of the cliffs or water!!! Don't get me wrong they're nice pools and all, but we could've saved a lotta time/money and flew to Florida if we'd known all we'd be seeing was palm trees. -The beach may look beautiful from all the pictures and videos on the website, but BOY does the VVP marketing team deserve a raise! The beach mediocre at best. Once you're down the stone stairs to the initial platform you'll see it: unraked & filled with seaweed and sand fleas. Theres also no service for food and drink down there? NO thank you. Don't know any 5 star resort that would call this acceptable.... -There is one hot-tub on resort and it was never hot! The cold plunge was luke warm. -The night club they tote on the website is non-existent if you arrive in June. Again, bravo marketing department! - Midway through the trip it was time for the special Cigar Experience we had booked for the men in our party...way back in March mind you. The guys showed up to the location noted in our booking on 6.19 at 10:00pm and none of the staff members had any knowledge of the event....nor did they even to know what a Cigar Experience was!!!! There was very little attempt to rebound and continue with the experience, instead we received flustered apologies from the seemingly overwhelmed staff members (who said they could see my booking but had not been notified the event manager). The General Manager of the hotel did provide desserts/teas in the lobby as his token of dedication to making things right, but by this point we had all had enough. -DO NOT stay in the off-resort properties/apartments. They are dated, ugly and a far walk to the rest of the resort- especially if you're in heels on the way to dinner. In the end, our entire party was left with a bad taste in our mouth. We spoke to the manager Jose who listened to all these concerns but seemed completely out of touch with the reality of the serviced-based issues at the resort. He explained the Portuguese culture of long-drawn out meals (which we can appreciate but not fully understand as Americans), but that didn't explain the general disorganization or tell us that he understood his International clientele. As a final apology Jose offered my husband and I a wonderful experience in Vila Vitas wine cellar. He generously comped the whole meal. Both the service and food were amazing. It's nice to see that management cares, but unfortunately this didn't erase our feelings or give us back the experience we feel our party of 9 paid for at a so-called world-renowned resort. NLebeau

Yelp
A once in a lifetime family vacation made possible by shoulder season rates! This is a stunningly beautiful resort on the beautiful cliffs of the Algarve southern coastal region of Portugal. The grounds are perfectly maintained, hilly, and sprawling with multiple pools and ocean vistas - each with their own vibe (family, adults, etc.) - restaurants, and scenic walks, including along the oceanside cliffs. Service was spectacular: exceedingly professional and attentive, but also friendly and caring - and patient for a group with 7 adults and 4 kids. Facilities are plentiful, from tennis to golf to the pools to a kids camp to bars to the beach (with its chilly, but rejuvenating May surf). If you have an opportunity to visit, please do so as you won't regret it!

Yelp
Best hotel and best service ever. We stayed in many good hotels all around the world. This hotel topped all hotels. We were treated like king and queen. I must mention the hotel manager Jolita. She went out of her way to pleased us. Will choose this hotel over any other hotel!

Yelp
This 5 star resort did not disappoint! My best friend and I enjoyed our short time here and were disappointed to leave. The staff was friendly and helpful upon our early arrival and we were upgraded to a suite and given an excellent fan upon my friends request! The grounds are enormous. So much so that it's easy to get lost. We had a difficult time determining where the adult pool and secondary pools were- but definitely got some steps in searching! The staff member at the pool eventually led us to the right direction- this place is a maze- but a gorgeous one. The drinks and sandwich at the pool were phenomenal- certainly worth the steep prices. The cocktail bar was divine, with gold flakes sprinkled on our beautiful drinks! The Italian restaurant was also amazing! I had the best Mac & cheese of my life here (see photo to be impressed)! We also enjoyed our wine tasting down in the cave! Carlos was an incredibly knowledgeable sommelier. I enjoyed a massage at the spa, but I was a bit confused on finding that as well. We also checked out the disco one night- which we were shuttled to by a resort golf cart. All in all, this hotel really checks all the boxes. Family friendly, spectacular views, 5 star staff, amazing amenities, and a spacious room! I would certainly return to this fabulous retreat!

Yelp
Stunning resort. The most beautiful grounds at a resort that we've ever experienced. We stayed in the family oasis suite and it was perfect. Very large and bright with a beautiful large balcony. We spent the most time at the oasis pool because it's heated but it also had a swim up bar which was great. The restaurants were pricey but the food was good. The breakfast was consistently amazing. The spread is huge. We also got referrals for a photographer to take family pics at the resort and they turned out phenomenal for a very reasonable price. This resort hit all the marks for us.

Yelp
Best hotel experience! The grounds and architecture were beautiful with an incredible attention to detail. All the buildings were up to date, clean, and the modernization of traditional architectural aspects gave it a true resort feel. It was also very sweet to see all the baby ducks and other birds roaming the property! The pool was simply perfect. Not too crowded, extraordinary views, and some very fun and colorful seating options. We also enjoyed the V Life shops in which we found many exclusive things that were available to purchase. This included essentials as well things that were unique to the hotel! The hotel's private beach was a quick walk down from the pool area and was nothing short of spectacular. The rock formations and the sparkling turquoise water made for a gorgeous spot to relax in a quiet environment. This was also the view we received from the balcony in our room. The room was impeccable, spacious, and had an incredibly fresh and inviting feel. There were many unique details in the room that made the stay particularly special. Everything in the room was of the highest quality, customization was available to make the room more specific to your needs, and we were provided with so many little treats that which made the stay all the more enjoyable! It was amazingly simple to find help for our needs and every single staff member we met was always so happy and quick to assist us with our stay. This was probably one of the most memorable things about the experience. All the staff was extremely attentive, helpful, and friendly to a degree we have never seen before. Everyone was so professional, but also made us feel like they cared deeply about our experience on a personal level. They happily provided us with many recommendations for things to do inside and outside the hotel, as well as for all the delicious food that we tried. The culinary aspect was something you can truly only experience in Vila Vita. There wasn't a single thing that tasted like something we had tried before and there wasn't a single thing that wasn't simply exquisite. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to visit all the restaurants, but from the ones we did try, Mizu was our personal favorite. Incomparable service, unique and refined food, and the room itself was decorated beautifully. We would come back just for this restaurant. But we were very impressed by all of them. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience!

Yelp
On the list of leading hotels in the world, it's comparable to being a 3 star Michelin restaurant. Be prepared to say wow as you first lay your eyes on the hotel grounds and the sea of smiles from the employees there. As you arrive, the staff already knows your name and greeted as such. Since we arrived early, our room was not ready yet so they took us on a golf cart and transported us like royalty to Atlantico, one of their restaurants for breakfast with a view... The breakfast spread has virtually anything you want and need. On top of that, there is a separate a la carte menu to choose from. From artisanal pancakes and waffles, to eggs cooked any style you prefer. Breakfast is always included with your stay. The hotel grounds including the Infiniti pool, cabanas, bed pools are just unbelievable. Pictures probably does it little justice. The house cleaning team does an unbelievable job keeping your room tidy. From the spotless floors to fresh robes, replenished coffee, fruit and water. Down to the turndown service including little chocolates and things like folding the toilet paper into perfect triangles. The concierge also provides you with anything you need. Even a cart to transport you from one end to another. No matter the weather, the two pools will provide you options to swim. The infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic or the heated pool. As for dining, you'll have many options including the 2 star Michelin restaurant Ocean. Perfect getaway in Algarve. Hands down one of the best places I've stayed.

Yelp
Amazing grounds, fantastic views, very friendly staff. Some basic issues with reservations and room /special dietary needs that were requested 9 months prior to arrival, some suites with mold so had to move three times. Regardless, Jeorge the manager of rooms was able to find us a place after all. Be aware that adult pool isn't really that, any kid can be in the area and only 12 and over supposed to go into the pool, which is not the case. Defiantly annoying as one day there were more kids at the pool area than adults. As for Whale restaurant by the adult pool, slow service unless you have Tiago as a waiter, no communication and disorganized staff where three people will ask for your order yet you wait 20 mins for a beer.last but not least, if you ask for bucket of ice in the room (since they are no ice machines) it's 7.50 Euros! I know that isn't breaking the bank but out of principal, when you pay $600-900 per night for a room, you really charge for frozen water???? House keeping is great. Lovely resort but would not say a five star and lots to be improved upon.

Yelp
Truly heaven - beautiful grounds, kind staff, and wonderful amenities. I'll daydream of this place for a long time.

Yelp
If Heaven really existed, this must be IT! If you're looking for a getaway, to relax, this has every amenity necessary to keep you healthy; active...It is February now, and the sun's out! Come Summer, you will likely not obtain a spot. Book it now! Zzzzzz

Yelp
This is an amazing property. The grounds are superb the views breathtaking. This location certainly lives up to the standards of leading hotels. The service at a couple of restaurants was lacking or I would give this 5 stars. We were the last reservation 2 nights and they certainly wanted to make sure they did not have is there for too long.
