The 17 Best Breakfast Restaurants In Houston

"In a busy city full of busy folks, often very little time exists for sit-down breakfast. Villa Arcos can assist with this dilemma with quick counter service and legendary, pillowy-soft breakfast tacos. This East End Mexican taco spot off Navigation continues to pump out handmade, fluffy flour tortillas stuffed with refried beans, eggs, and thick, crispy slices of bacon. Call ahead if you’re truly in a rush, or grab a Topo and a patio table for focused tortilla enjoyment." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

The 14 Best Taco Spots In Houston

"Everyone in the East End knows to grab breakfast tacos at Villa Arcos. The tiny red shack on Navigation has been a neighborhood favorite since 1977. It supplies stuffed breakfast tacos (also known as “The Super”) to the mostly-washed masses of local blue-collar workers, politicians, and people who recently moved from Montrose. Not much beats opening up hastily wrapped aluminum foil to reveal a pillow-soft flour tortilla overflowing with thick hunks of bacon, eggs, cheese, beans, and potatoes. Well, except maybe opening up another one filled with chorizo." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

The 15 Best Mexican Restaurants in Houston

"This beloved daytime taco spot in the East End has been a neighborhood favorite since 1977 due to their fluffy, fresh, and buttery handmade flour tortillas. Other than a brief pandemic hiatus, Villa Arcos has continuously supplied a never-ending line of construction workers, East End regulars, and politicians with egg-stuffed breakfast tacos (a.k.a.“Supers”), plates of machacado and eggs, and bowls of menudo. The 17 Best Restaurants In Houston's East End

"The breakfast and lunch taco spot Villa Arcos along Navigation is a beloved neighborhood gem. The handmade flour tortillas are still fluffy and buttery, the service is counter service, and the coffee is only available in a styrofoam cup. Wait in line among the never-ending throng of construction workers, hipsters, local heads, and politicians for super-stuffed breakfast tacos, barbacoa, and plates of machacado and eggs. The bright red house takes call-ahead orders, too, but then you would miss all the fun. " - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

Villa Arcos - Review - East End - Houston - The Infatuation

"Ask most folks in the East End where to get breakfast tacos, and you will likely hear the name Villa Arcos more than a few times. The beloved breakfast and lunch taco spot has been a neighborhood favorite since 1977 due to their fluffy, fresh, and buttery handmade flour tortillas. Despite a brief hiatus during the height of the pandemic, Villa Arcos has supplied a never-ending line of construction workers, hipsters, local heads, and even politicians with egg-stuffed breakfast tacos—known as Supers on the menu—barbacoa, plates of machacado and eggs, and weekend bowls of menudo. Not much changed about Villa Arcos: the interior, including the tables and chairs, is bright red, it’s counter service, coffee is only served in a styrofoam cup, and bussing your own tray is expected. photo credit: Chelsea Thomas" - Chelsea Thomas

I am a regular at Villa Arcos. Ever since they re-opened some years ago. I order once per week or twice, early in the morning for 7am meetings. So, my orders go from 30-35 tacos every time . Their tacos are really good, they are generous with the sizes so you do get what you pay for. Now, the only issue for me is that no matter how long in advance I place my order, when I arrive to pick up, they aren’t ready yet. If I call the order in, or I place it online… same thing. And the lady who’s always there early before 7am shes always making me faces bc I’m rushing them, she gets so bothered. Well, I’m sorry lady… I have somewhere to be on time. Can’t be late ! I think my weekly orders aren’t good enough for you. I switched from ordering from brothers taco bc theirs are so greasy. But, with a broken heart, I might have to go back to them again. ***My only issue is timing, not the quality of their tacos***

Okay, But Nothing Special - 3 Stars The food here was... fine. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't memorable. I ordered the beef tips, and while they were cooked properly, they were surprisingly bland. Needed a lot more seasoning, in my opinion. Overall, it was an average meal, perfectly acceptable if you're looking for something quick and easy, but don't expect to be wowed.

What can I say about this famous breakfast taco place that hasn't been said before. This was my first time here after years of hearing about this place. I tried the bacon and egg, chorizo with beans and a basic egg and cheese for the kids. Everything was spot on. Flour tortillas.. delicious. Thick chunks of bacon and the chorizo has a distinct spicy flavor. My guess is that it beef chorizo instead of the usual pork chorizo. We sat outside and enjoyed a rare cool, sunny Houston day. If you're looking for some good breakfast tacos in this area, this is the spot.

Yummy breakfast tacos. Tortillas were fresh and perfectly made.

Google
Love the food here! If you’re looking for a good old fashioned Mexican breakfast then this is the place! I got 4 tacos but quickly realized that it only took one for me to be full. Bacon and egg and Potato and egg were delicious. Also got a Migas plate and it was so yummy! Reminded me of grandmas breakfast. I recommend this place and will be back.

Google
I enjoy coming to Villa Arcos for the best breakfast tacos!! I was introduced to Villa Arcos by my stepdad & I’m glad I was. I enjoy visiting them for their breakfast tacos, it’s my favorite item from their menu. Their previous menu did have more items to choose from but I’m content with the new menu items available. If anything, I’m glad they reopened as I thought they were permanently closed. They do have vegetarian options for those in need. They have both inside and outside seating. On weekends it can get hectic and you might have to wait but it’s worth the wait. They cook most of their tacos from scratch in a cast iron pan, you literally can hear the stainless steel spatula steering all of the ingredients together, be patient. You pair the tacos with the green and red salsa, I add both, smh but I can’t help it. Sometimes the green salsa is spicier but both salsa’s enhance the flavor of the tacos. They also created a rewards program for their members which you can redeem with them. Give them a try, they’ve been around for decades!!!

This is my boyfriend’s cousin’s place. Love the bean and cheese tacos so much though that I have not tasted much else. I enjoy the older building the restaurant is in and the history. Be sure to check out all the butterflies ^_^ There are also people who come by and drop flyers off if you are looking for things to do.

Google
We were visiting from Killeen since we’re staying here temporarily. Great customer service, the male at the front was very chill and nice. The atmosphere is so relaxed and quiet. We had Barbacoa, potato and egg, and carne guisada tacos. They were all delicious and we will be returning when we visit my lovely hometown Houston again.

Yelp
Nice clean place, pretty small on the inside but we walked in and were able to sit down right away (Monday around noon). I ordered the enchilada plate and a fajita burrito with charro beans. The fajita beef burrito was tender not tough. Everything was made fresh to order and everything was so flavorful. It was an extra $1 for meat enchiladas but it was worth it! Small mom and pop places like this are usually the diamond in the rough! Definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
They seem to be a bit of a neighborhood, perhaps a city, staple for quite a while now since 1977. It's a small time spot with a location that has plenty of competition, original Ninfa's and El Tiempo are within a block or 2. Walk up counter to order from a pretty uniform menu. They have a couple of tables inside and outside, but I get the feeling there's plenty of to-go orders happening here. As a Houstonian, with plenty of experience in the Mexican food sphere, this is just an ok spot. The barbacoa tacos are well cooked but not seasoned as well as they should/could be. The chicharron tacos are fried in old oil, that's the only way I could explain the taste. That's enough of a mistake to knock a star off for me. Just not enough going well here for a recommendation.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Saw a line coming by here on the weekend and decided to check them out. They're located pretty much on Main Street Navigation in EaDo. Parking is pretty much streetside. They have limited interior seating and a few benches outside. The interior is a bit dated and was missing AC and had a humid odor. We decided to order and eat outside. Ordered a migas, barbacoa, bean and cheese, and chicharron and bean taco with an iced horchata drink. Their tortillas tasted handmade but were unfortunately a bit tough and chewy, not great. The migas mix was not good; honestly one of the more disappointing versions of migas that I've had. It was a bit bland and missing the usual rich migas flavor. The barbacoa was probably the best of the three tacos that I tried; unfortunately it was a bit greasy and somehow dry at the same time. The chicharron taco was unexpected; usually the pork skin is steamed or braised and soft; these had hard and greasy fried pieces mixed in with a generic bean spread. The grease they use was a bit heavy and tasted not quite fresh so that taco was not my favorite. The bean and cheese taco was as expected but their beans were slightly bland, so meh. The horchata was a bit watery. Overall, I think this is a fairly average taco experience. In my opinion; the breakfast tacos here doesn't hold a candle to Brothers (also in EaDo) in terms of flavor or value and the tacos here rank below even some of the less authentic taco spots inside the loop. I appreciate the handmade tortillas, but by toasting them, the texture and mouthfeel wasn't the best. The portions for each taco is honestly fair and larger than most street tacos.

Yelp
First time coming here and I was surprised how empty it was. To be fair I was kind of early on a Saturday morning. I arrived at 8am, parking lot is behind the building. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was how clean it smelled. There's a big wall menu and it's clear they focus on tacos. You walk up to the register to order and you are given a number. I order a bacon, egg, and cheese with beans, taco and the Migas taco. Cheese and beans are .75 extra for each which seems like a bit much. My order didn't take long to come out and I decided to take it home. The bacon, egg, cheese, and bean taco was less than average for me. I did like the thick cut bacon they used and how it was cooked crispy. But the lack of flavor from the eggs and beans made this taco fall short. But the real disappointment was the tortilla. It was very thick and felt more like pita bread. Not the migas taco was better. The onion and bell peppers help give it flavor. The fried corn tortillas also harder a nice crispy texture. I decided to eat this one with a fork so I would fill up on more pita bread. I would be willing to give them another try. Next time I'll eat there and try a plate.
google avatar

Henry Y.

Yelp
Solid tacos in EaDo. Quite a few options to choose from, I got the bacon, sausage, and chorizo supers, which come with egg, potatoes, beans, and cheese. I think the bacon one is the best since you can really feel the texture of the bacon against the other fillings. My girlfriend got barbacoa and carne guisada, weird that only the barbacoa came with cilantro and onions and not the carne guisada. There's plenty of salsa verde bottles scattered among the tables, definitely ask for some salsa roja, that stuff is fire! (heh) Plenty of street parking nearby. Fair prices, decent portion size, not a crazy line on a Saturday.

Yelp
The tacos here are great-- period. I live in the neighborhood and support Villa Arcos like once a week. Today, I noticed that all of the tacos got smaller. Same tortilla and same flavors, but less filling. Maybe it's because I came in their busiest day (Sunday). The service is fast and reliable. The ambiance is crowded, family oriented, and the dining room is very small. I love this place for how much of a neighborhood gem it is.

Yelp
I am always on the hunt for a good breakfast taco or burrito. Looks like I have found the best one in Houston so far. I actually saw this place on Eat Like A Local. Chris Shepard showcased this spot and I trust that man. It is an old building off Navigation and has been around since the 70's making homemade tortillas and tacos. They open early and close at 2 everyday. My first visit was in person. This place is small with some tables inside as well as some seating outside. There was a line when I came in and it can feel a little cramped. Customer service was good. I've only ordered the breakfast tacos here, but they do have a huge variety of breakfast and lunch tacos, breakfast and lunch plates, and sides. They have your everyday breakfast tacos around the 3 dollar range. For a little over 4 bucks you can get a super taco. Price wise it seems a little high for a taco, but they do no skimp on these things. I got a couple of super bacon tacos. These things had some weight to them. A mini burrito perhaps. It was filled with perfectly cooked, crispy bacon, eggs, potatoes and beans. The other tacos are specifically filled with what's in it's name. I thought I could kill super tacos easily, but I was full after just one. I saved the other one for lunch later. My recent orders have been through DoorDash to my workplace. We made a large order and they had everything just right and it kept its temp perfectly. I've tried all the super tacos and they are all good. Bacon is the frontrunner for me. They have red and green sauces for the tacos. The green is good, but the red packs some heat and tastes good as well. This isn't stopping my quest for the best breakfast tacos in town, but I will be comparing everything to this spot for now. I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Villa Arcos was stop #2 on our 10 Tacos in 10 Hours tour around town this year and it still reigns as my favorite breakfast taco. The chicharron super is my go to, and the most unique breakfast taco I've ever had. The chicharron is fried and still crispy, not stewed like your typical chicharron taco. It's flavorful without being greasy and the super is nicely filling without having too much potato or beans. I'm not a huge beans person, but the refried beans here are just a swipe to add for flavor without making the taco too heavy. The chicharron here stands out as one of the tacos I think about the most when I'm out of town and is a must have if you're a chicharron fan.

Yelp
The tacos were very good. A friend recommended this place after our race and although I was hesitant at first (because we have so so so many taco shops in Houston), I ended up enjoying it.
google avatar

J. Antonio H.

Yelp
The food and service are outstanding. The menu is taqueria classic. Tasty low-priced food both take away and dine In a private lot for easy parking. A first even with the original Ninfas across the median.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here right before they closed for some breakfast tacos. This place is very quaint and cute, and the line moved really fast. We got our food super fast and the tacos were delicious, I also really loved the green salsa!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
the Food is good, right at the cusp of authentically mexican food and Tex-Mex... but still closer the authentic stuff. I will say the flour tortilla game has changed. I am pretty selective with mexican food places I eat at based on the flour tortillas and while the food is good I have only been back to this place once since they re-opened because they changed the tortillas. while it's a staple in the community that isn't what hypes me up as a customer.. i would say try this place for sure.. but also STEP UP YOUR TORTILLA GAME!!
google avatar

Samer R.

Yelp
Best Barbacoa and Migas tacos in Second Ward/East Downtown. And flour tortillas are fresh!!! I always love stopping by, seeing the staff/management, and enjoying their tacos whenever I'm in the area!!! Go check them out!!!

Gabriel R.

Yelp
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT order to go or DoorDash from here. The cook loves adding potatoes to my bacon egg tacos. Literally happens every time. I even called them after placing my order and asked Cesar to please check my order before sending it out and he didn't. He even had the nerve to tell me he checked it and there were no potatoes. Like im making it up or like the potatoes just magically appeared on the ride over. They obviously do not care about satisfying a 24 year customer. I wish Yolanda and Chris were still here. This never happened growing up.

Yadira A.

Yelp
My go to breakfast taco spot! So freaking good! They have supreme tacos that are the size of a burrito almost! My favorite is the chicharrón supreme, has beans, potato, eggs, cheese & green chicharron! They also have breakfast plates, carne guisada, tamales, menudo & so much more! Definitely a must try spot.
google avatar

Noe R.

Yelp
Great tasting food, great staff, and the owner Jacob T. has an amazing atmosphere setup. The restaurant was busy yet food came out within 10-15 mins of ordering, FRESH. I would recommend the Menudo, Tacos, and Tamales.

Rocky C.

Yelp
Very authentic! Good is great and the customer service is great!! Will def come back.
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
I love this place. Been coming a long time. The tacos are so fresh and let me tell you about the bacon THICK. None of that mushy bacon most places got. This is crispy.
google avatar

Shana H.

Yelp
Yep. Add this one to the list. I came here with a friend who has been here several times. The place almost seemed inconspicuous but it's also a red building lol. Service was fast and friendly. Bilingual staff. Listen I just had a breakfast taco but it was packed with flavor and BIG!! I got a basic bacon, egg and cheese taco and it's like the size of 2 at most places. The eggs taste like they were cooked in bacon grease (yes!!) and the bacon was nice and crunchy - I hate soft bacon. It's hard to do a breakfast taco wrong, but it's hard to get it perfect. This place comes close and I'm honestly going to go back, no question. Try them!!
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
Excellent tacos. Had the barbacoa super and carne guisada tacos. Both were excellent. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
While helping friends during the 2024 tornado aftermath, I found Villa Arcos on Navigation. They were operating off of a generator with a limited menu. Fast coordinated service, and awesome tacos! I will be drove out of the way for a visit back here!
google avatar

Janene M.

Yelp
Extremely friendly wait staff. Flour tortillas were outstanding. My friend and I ordered all the 'super' breakfast tacos. Our favorites were the potato super and the bacon super.
google avatar

Dominique N.

Yelp
This place isn't fancy, but its tasty as well as has any of the classics you would want from a small Mexican joint. There is not much seating inside, but there is even more outside.
google avatar

Marcius T.

Yelp
Salsa is amazing and the staff is delightful. Can't beat the breakfast tacos and I highly recommend the quesadillas for the kids.
google avatar

Jezael M.

Yelp
Tacos are the bomb! It's a quick stop and seating isn't the best but definitely the tacos will satisfy! You order at the counter so there isn't much service. Cashiers want to get you in and out.
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
2 stars were for the fresh homemade tortillas. I found this place to be the place to go to for carne guisada with cheese tacos on my way to work when I moved to Houston. I was sad when they decided to close To my surprise, I heard they reopened. made a stop this morning for the usual and I was extremely disappointed from the time I ordered the taco with a young guy that messed up my order of two tacos to the tacos !! Carne guisada taco was 4 big chunks of stew meat that didn't come with a knife. Meat was tasteless and dry. On yo the second taco bean taco with a slice of bacon- Újule, my 12 yr old could've done better with this one. No nenas and old dried up bacon from the weekend. Had the same issues - no steak knife included. The bacon was not edible without having a trip to the dentist, plus the beans were not existent. This joint seems to be managed by young twenty year olds, I guess. The salsa is made for the people who just want color in the tacos , tasteless. For $4 a taco, y'all could do better in the barrio.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday morning, first time since it reopened. (Used to come here all the time). Plate came out without cheese on top that I requested and paid for. Beans were very watery and so salty I couldn't even eat them. Migas was way too salty too. Salsas were fire hot, almost too hot to eat. Don't know what they've done to this place, but it was just horrible.
google avatar

Yelp
Best breakfast tacos on the planet. Bacon/sausage -egg-potato-cheese.. life changing breakfast tacos.

Yelp
Great service, clean establishment, the staff is very kind and they serve the food, nice and warm and it's delicious! You'll definitely go back after your first visit. It's like eating a home-cooked meal.
google avatar

Judy Kay C.

Yelp
Food is good and fresh, and does not contain TBHQ, BHA, or BHT, but is very authentic! Which means they aren't using cheap cooking fat. The breakfast tacos are wonderful

Nicole P.

Yelp
The Bacon Super is the top breakfast taco in the city. Don't forget to get the green salsa!
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
This was a major influence in why we moved to this side of town, that's how good these tacos are. They closed during the pandemic and we hoped and counted down until they reopened. I am happy to say they taste just like they did before. We will continue to support them to keep them a staple in the east end. Food: this time the bacon super, always crisp bacon with eggs cheese beans and potatoes :) don't forget to grab a salsa verde.
google avatar

Strawberry Daquiri C.

Yelp
Omg they are back I am so happy. I am holding this bacon super like a lover holding the random girl I met but never got the name of in 1972 whom I just found through Craig List's "missed connections" 60 years later.

Armando C.

Yelp
Bomb breakfast tacos at a great price! Definitely one of my top spots in the inner loop when craving them.
google avatar

Ramon B.

Yelp
I have loved this place and I am happy that they have finally reopened. The food is still amazing but I will have to agree with the reviewer that mentioned the food being too salty. I had a huevos a la mexicana taco that had a lot of flavor, unfortunately it was due to the salt as I only got taste from it. Whoever is doing the cooking has a heavy salt hand. I hope they read these reviews and remedy the situation.
google avatar

Dustin R.

Yelp
Top notch. Took em a little while to get settled after re-opening but now they are back on point. Excellent service, good people, some of the best breakfast tacos in Houston.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Overall i will come back to this place if im in the area. I enjoyed the barbacoa taco with beans topped with their green salsa (spicy). They add enough meat to the tacos to justify the price. Definitely try it out if you're in the area.
google avatar

Xiomara R.

Yelp
Best tacos and excellent service Most of the time i order my tacos for togo And they always have them ready when I arrive to pick them up. I love the egg and potato tacos and the bacon super taco so Good .

Yelp
BEST BREAKFAST TACOS IN HOUSTON! I have been going here for 10 years and I can't say enough. Favorite thing to order is the bacon super! Eggs bacon cheese potatoes and beans. SO GOOD. You won't regret going here!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to have breakfast. You have to try their breakfast tacos. Will not regret it, trust me.

Yelp
Really good tacos really fast grade ingredients and great prices. I just wish they were a little bit bigger.

Yelp
Listen up everyone - you need look no further for the best breakfast tacos in Houston. They exist, of course, on historic Navigation Boulevard in the Second Ward; the birthplace of all things delicious and Tex-Mex. Please do yourself a favor and pay the area a visit, and while you are there, stop by Villa Arcos for a truly deliciously religous experience in the shape of breakfast tacos. There really are no bad options on the menu, but a few stand tall above the rest: the Bacon Super (bacon, beans, egg, and cheese) taco, the Barbacoa taco (only available on weekends), and the Chicharrones taco. My favorite, by a long shot, is the Chicharrones taco - it combines perfectly fluffy eggs with the best, crispiest, juiciest chicharrones I have ever had. One bite and I am in foodie heaven - I know a taco made of fried pig skin may take me out, but it would be the perfect way to go. There is a small lot located behind the restaurant that holds about 8-10 cars, but there is plenty of easy street parking around as well.
google avatar

Rex C.

Yelp
Very rarely to I drop stars on my fave breakfast taco places but this place has changed. Today we got potato and egg and the potato's were a bit dry. The carne guisada tasted different as well. It was a bit dry. Also they no longer make tamales here. Can anyone confirm or deny if they have changed owners. Def didn't taste the same to me.
google avatar

Ramiro F.

Yelp
Villa Arcos is my best place to get my best Tacos de Chicharron & Frijoles, Carne Guisada, Picadillo, Barbacoa Huevos Rancheros breakfast plate for many years the best on area. Give 5 stars

Rosie M.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service and tacos are like Moms home cooking, tortillas and fresh too and green salsa is best.

Christiane S.

Yelp
These are the best tacos I ever had. The service is top notch. The restaurant makes me feel like I'm back in Mexico for vacation.

Yelp
Glad they are open again. Saying a taco is the best is always a hard pill to swallow. Check it out, call ahead, enjoy.
