Villa Ariston

"Housed in one of the most beautiful 19C residences in Opatija, Villa Ariston is one of the region’s unmissable gastronomic experiences. Since mid-2019, Miro Šobot has followed in the footsteps of those who preceded him, maintaining the skilful balance between tradition, classic flavours and creative touches that has given the restaurant its fine reputation. The menu features numerous fish dishes, as well as local specialities such as lamb from the nearby Cres island." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed at Hotel Ariston to celebrate my 30th birthday, expecting a wonderful weekend getaway. Unfortunately, the experience turned into a frustrating and expensive ordeal due to the hotel’s negligence. Upon returning to the hotel one evening, we found our car, parked in the hotel’s designated parking lot, had been damaged by the car parked next to it. The marks on both vehicles made it clear what had happened. We immediately reported the issue to the reception staff, who agreed with our assessment but refused to address it promptly, stating they didn’t want to disturb the other driver during dinner. They assured us the hotel’s insurance would cover the damage, so we trusted them and waited for the process to unfold. What followed was a year of constant reminders and delays. When the insurance agent finally contacted us, we were told the claim couldn’t be processed because we didn’t have the personal information of the driver who caused the damage. This was incredibly frustrating, as it was the hotel’s responsibility to gather this information at the time of the incident. As a result, we had to cover the repair costs ourselves for damage we didn’t cause. The entire situation left us feeling like we were treated as less important guests. The lack of accountability and professionalism was shocking, and it completely ruined what should have been a special celebration. I cannot recommend staying here if you value peace of mind and good customer service.

For the price the food was lacking. The pasta was gritty. Some of the food was amazing though like the scampi ceviche. We killed four mosquitos and there were flies everywhere indoors. Mainly, don’t come here if it’s not good weather and you can sit outside. It’s not a great experience. (Didn’t stay at hotel.)

Really beautiful place. I wanted to enjoy the beach, ride my mountain bike and stay in a calm stylish place. Villa Ariston fulfilled my expectations. I even extended by 2 more nights.||The restaurant was excellent, they helped me with my special needs and the service is very kind.|

3 stars because of location and dinner setting on patio outside, which is breathtaking, but the food is nothing special. We tried the tasting menu (5 plates) and it was ok. Too expensive for the offer and quality. Service a bit slow but friendly. We had higher expectations as it is recommended by Michelin guide but we were disappointed.

Stay here for the walkable location to Opatija, the pool and access to swimming in the Adriatic. But do not stay here if you want to feel welcome. The service at breakfast was fine, but reception staff indifferent, and at times rude. Do not stay in rooms 8 or 9 - they are terrible. Also a missed opportunity to not provide bar service from the terrace in the evening. Focus was on a Michelin star restaurant that was not in keeping with the hotel, which was on the shabby side of its useful life.

Small villa, with just 8-9 rooms. Never feels crowded. A little dated, basic rooms with narrow corridors and lots of steps (beware, no elevator), but thats the charm of an old villa. Location is quiet (if overlooking the sea) and just a short walk from Opatija. Beautiful presidential suite with a balcony, rooms on the top floor feel very private (beware of sloping roof). Bathroom in upper floors is big enough. Breakfast has a reasonable selection, but its good and there are daily changes. Though, i would prefer if it also included some hot dishes (like eggs or omlets). The views are just great from the property and if the weather is not good, you can sit inside in a beautiful old room. Facilities include a great restaurant (one of the best in the area!!!) and a small outdoor swimming pool in a garden (overlooking the bay). Pool is for guests only and you can also lounge around the garden in a natural shade (beach umbrellas are available). Plenty of lounge chairs, more than enough for guests. It also has a small beach just below the villa (though no beach umbrella available there), so its great for summer holliday. Due to protected infrastructure no indoor pool. Staff was very pleasant and always helpful. Restaurant service was top notch. Parking is free and while villa was full, we never had a problem with parking.||||As an downside. Pool and beach area feel a bit dated and could be maintained better (missing planks at the private beach, bent planks around the pool in June 2019). This is the only reason why I took away one point. This can be probably repaired very quickly. Pool area itself was clean and cleaned daily. Also, no food (sandwich or even ice cream) was served in a small bar in the garden. That was unfortunate for guests who wish to lounge around the pool during the day. There is no indoor pool or spa, so that could be limiting for somebody wishing pool in colder months. ||||Great value for money for the villa (B&B basis) and i will certainly be back. For me it was a perfect weekend sea break in June. This is the price for an affordable 3* hotel, and the hotel is exactly that. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful wedding here. Everyone was so accommodating during our time there and really put in the extra effort to make our special day even more special. Staying in the Presidential suite was fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous: we loved the architecture, we loved the views from our balcony, and we loved spending time in the terrace as well as walking down to the seaside promanade.
