Villa Augustus (Dordrecht, South Holland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"They don’t make water towers like they used to — this one, built in 1881, resembles a castle, and once contained a steam engine to power the pumps as well as housing for technicians. Long since decommissioned, it’s back in business as Villa Augustus, a thoroughly unusual hotel, with some rooms occupying the old tower quarters, as well as others in the gardens, in the old iron reservoir tank, or even floating on the surface of the Wantij river. The pump room is now a market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, and prepared food items, and the restaurant serves a menu of local, seasonal specialties, sourced as much as possible from the hotel’s own gardens." - Tablet Hotels

The bed in the lantern room is extremely uncomfortable. There’s such potential for the hotel to be a bit more luxurious, given the location & the beautiful gardens. The thrifted furniture and cheap prints on the walls aren’t exactly the best home away from home feeling. Breakfast falls short for dairy free options unfortunately and it was known before arrival. The view is unmatched from the lantern room though, very nice and nice there’s heating and cooling. Very much liked that.

The location and staff are good. However, the food is very basic. For example, we ordered a pasta and it was super basic and seemed that a 15-year old person with zero experience had made it. So, my recommendation is to avoid ordering any food there and only stick to drinks and enjoy its atmosphere.

Google
The restaurant at villa Augustus is amazing, a real must visit! They have many tasty dishes to choose from all with local products and plated beautifully. The vibe is in the restaurant is relaxed and the staff is really nice. Besides the restaurant you should also have a walk through the garden where they grow their own produce. And at the end of your visit you should have a look at their store with home goods and local produce. All in all, villa augustus is a great place and I would definitely recommend it.

The location is full of potential - eating in the garden, under the tower - would be perfect if the food and staff improve. We ate eggs Benedict on a toast which were good, but the pasta dish was completely overcooked. The biggest disappointment was the staff - we felt unwanted and completely unseen, had to ask for for every single thing: to clean up our table, to bring menu, to get our food, then to get cutlery while the food was getting cold and then to pay. Felt like a joke for this price. Such a shame.

The garden is incredible and very beautiful. I loved the Borlottibonen met geroosterde biet, pompoen. Which was vegan. My friends were a little lee shoah

Google
A charming local establishment with a delightful blend of offerings: Atmosphere and Setting
The venue boasts a picturesque setting with good scenery, creating a pleasant ambiance for visitors. The cute little store selling vegetables adds a rustic touch, while the nice garden enhances the overall appeal. The stylish restaurant complements the rural charm, making it an attractive destination for diners. Food • Pumpkin soup: Very nice, a standout dish • Steak: Acceptable, but not exceptional. Service
The staff demonstrated good service, contributing positively to the overall experience. However, the pacing of the meal could use improvement, as the time between dishes was noticeably long. Value for Money
The establishment offers very good price quality, suggesting that patrons receive fair value for their spending. In summary, this venue presents an appealing package with its charming atmosphere, fresh produce store, and stylish restaurant. While the food quality varies and service pacing needs attention, the overall experience and value make it worth considering for a visit.

Had a walk in lunch. Nice location, food was acceptable but definitely not outstanding, and a tat wee overpriced for what it was. Had a hard time attracting the attention of the teenage staff, which was more busy having fun together most of the time.

Friendly and welcoming staff, clean relativity simple rooms, but each room is different and very well equipped. Service is above 5 star hotel. I had a garden room, it was quiet and comfortable. I booked a bike for the following day and this was all arranged. So was the taxi for the following day. I stayed 3 days, ate in the restaurant, food was very good. Excellent 3 days.

Yelp
This place was very cool! There is a storefront, fresh bakery, restaurant, and tea room. We went for dinner and really enjoyed it. My one complaint is the service was quite slow and we had to get back to Amsterdam for Anne Frank House, so I was very stressed during dinner. We started with bread served with whipped ricotta and the freshest pesto I've ever had. It was SO good. We also shared some seasonal roasted veggies which were really delicious. I had a pasta with a paprika sauce and provolone on top and it was awesome. The space itself is filled with lots of color and tons of natural light. My mom grabbed a few cookies from the bakery and she really enjoyed them. Although they were too crunchy for my taste. Overall, a really neat spot to have a meal.

Yelp
The husband and I love this place! We have been a few times for lunch, and it's just perfect. The food is great - their grilled veggie appetizer, pizza, and panna cotta are all simply delicious. This is a place that has a garden on-site in which they grow veggies to use in the restaurant, and to-date this is the best example I've seen yet (anywhere) - there is a staff that manages the farming. The design of the restaurant is super unique and impressive and the grounds are beautiful, as they do not just grow veggies but also a ton of flowers. The shop also has some cute and unique items. We are hoping to stay a night here at the hotel soon (will update the review after our stay).

Yelp
I would describe Villa Augustus as an experience! The restaurant feels like a big cafeteria with a great menu. Vintage furniture, homegrown ingredients, friendly service. Impressive surroundings, hotel and limonaia used often as wedding location. Perfect for families.

Yelp
After 1.5 weeks camping with a tent during our cycle holiday with lots of rain we treated ourselves to a room in Villa Augustus. What a treat. A beautiful room, a lovely shower, very friendly staff, beautiful gardens, a short walk to the centre of Dordrecht, very good food and a nice shop. They grow their own vegetables. Price is high, but worth it.
