Villa Baroni

"This romantic restaurant on the lakeshore has a welcoming, elegant ambience and a delightful terrace for summer dining. The cuisine pays particular attention to top-quality, seasonal ingredients prepared in traditional recipes with a focus on fish. Cosy, Provençal-style guestrooms complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed at Villa Baroni for three nights in early May for our wedding, and overall it was a pleasant experience. The location by Lake Varese is sublime — with beautiful views and a well-kept, presentable hotel both inside and out. We had both breakfast and dinner during our stay. The food was of very good quality with well-prepared dishes, though dinner prices felt slightly high considering the setting. Still, it was convenient and enjoyable, especially when with family or for a special event. We were given three rooms for our families. As bride and groom, we stayed in the largest room (EUR 200/night), which was spacious, vintage in style, and had two large windows. We appreciated the in-room tea and coffee maker. The smaller rooms with direct lake views were charming and suitable for a weekend getaway. Unfortunately, certain behaviours affected our stay. A lady (possibly the owner?) let her dog roam freely throughout the hotel and restaurant — at one point even jumping on a dining table. Her friends also brought dogs to dinner, which barked frequently. This was inappropriate and unhygienic for guests, especially since booking platforms (Booking.com, Trivago, BringFido) state that pets aren’t allowed. The inconsistency in policy was disappointing. Rooms are on the first floor, accessible via a staircase next to reception. There’s a large fridge at the bottom for water bottles, but no door separates the floors. As a result, we could clearly hear guests leaving, bottles being handled, and bins being used between 11 p.m. and midnight. Most disruptive was the dog barking loudly for 15+ minutes around midnight, waking my toddler. Instead of moving the dog to a quiet room, the lady shouted at it — making things worse. I love dogs, but there are limits in shared spaces. The Wi-Fi was another issue — weak and unreliable in the rooms, only stable on the ground floor. A more consistent connection would be expected at this level. Our room, while not bad, could use an update. The red-brown carpet is dated and would be better replaced with wood flooring. There was visible mould between the wardrobe and window wall — clearly cleaned periodically, but it needs deeper treatment, which is understandable in lake settings. Some furnishings felt mismatched or flimsy: a beige leather sofa clashed with the vintage decor, a round table with a heavy oriental lamp was unstable, the desk chair was wobbly, the headboard outdated, and the shower door didn’t close properly. The wall-mounted hairdryer was very noisy, and the small TV high on the wall looked out of scale. Several extension cords and loose sockets gave a cluttered and unsafe impression. On a positive note, Alina at reception was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the cleaning lady was thoughtful and made sure our room was ready for the bridal party. In summary, Villa Baroni has great potential, thanks to its stunning location and kind staff. However, pet management, noise control, Wi-Fi, and room maintenance need improvement to match the villa’s charm.

This is a wonderful, beautiful place. We have just spent a week here and would stay an extra week but they are fully booked. I can see why.||The staff are friendly, genuinely nice people who clearly care very much about the establishment, its standards and reputation.||Breakfast is a delight, with a stupendous view over the lake. Dinner was exceptional.||The staff are like a family who want to make you feel welcome and part of the place. They can’t do enough for you. An example is me asking if they knew somewhere where I could buy a mouse to use with my laptop. Not only did they lend me the one from their own PC there and then (they had a spare) they ordered one from Amazon for me. All done with a lovely spirit of helpfulness.||We can’t recommend Villa Baroni enough. We have to leave tomorrow with a heavy heart for another hotel on the other side of the lake, but we will certainly come back here.||Thanks to all the wonderful people here who made our stay so beautiful, especially the attentive, thoughtful young lady who served us breakfast, whose smile we will never forget.

Delicious bistronomic restaurant. All the dishes are well presented, fresh, and tasty. I loved all their fish-based recipes. The terrace with the view on the lake is stunning. The staff is friendly and the place modern, high-standing. Warmly recommended!

Simply lovely! The people at Villa Baroni are very welcoming and nice to us. Breakfast is awesome en the view is stunning. But most importantly is that they take that extra step to help you. I forgot my watch when checking out and they were willing to send my watch back to my home in the Netherlands. I deeply appreciate it and it shows the level of service they give to their guests. Thanks!

This is a lovely spot on smaller lake in lake region of northern Italy. What was so nice about this property, other than being right on lake and our room with view of lake, was that town people came down to beachfront in evenings and was not overrun by tourists as at Lago Como and Maggiore. Our room was rather small but with nice details, good air conditioning and nice bathroom with shower. There is parking just adjacent and lift makes bag handling very easy. The grounds with pool are lovely as well. The breakfast service was awesome. Dinner great and will review separately. Dining room and terrace overlook the lake. Staff very nice and accommodating.

Found it by pure chance. Varese lake is an rathe unknown destination, kept secret by the locals. THis Hotel is an old villa, on the side of the road that is adiacent to the lake. They renovates the place makinf it charming and romantic. The restaurant seems to deliver a high added value to this type of escapes -I couldn't get there in time. Very fine service -although one lady scream on the stairs in the morning, waking me up -after 9:30am. Recommended if you fancy cozy, classic environment, no stiff codes but elegance and good taste. THe bathroom was very fresh and fine, the room had high ceiling and fine decoration -not too heavy-flower-power. I'll come back.

We had a wonderful three-day stay at the Villa Baroni. It is a very special and tranquil hotel. The food was delicious (breakfast and dinner) - we highly recommend the restaurant. The staff were outstanding! They catered for every need and were very attentive. ||||We borrowed bikes (good quality) and cycled around the lake one day. We also went to Lago Maggiore which was worth seeing and easy as a day trip. For longer stays or travelling further afield, it would be useful to have a car, but for a long weekend Villa Baroni kindly organised transfers for us. ||||Highly recommend! Grazie mille!

We stayed to be close to the Milan airport which is 30 min away. Free parking right in front. Very nice rooms and public areas. Food good but too little emphasis on alternative entrees to fish. When we booked, we were not told that the pool area and the terrace dining room was closed to us due to a wedding. Should have been told to factor in whether to stay.
