Villa Belle Epoque

"Occupying conjoined 1920s villas in Maadi, a leafy suburb created to house British civil servants and Egyptians working in the court of the Khedive Abbas Hilmi II, this whitewashed structure with dark colonial green window casings and balcony trim. Egyptian owner Tarek El Gendy and his Dutch wife, Beryl, have filled the 32 guest suites with a tasteful mix of contemporary Egyptian art and European and Oriental antiques. Guests can curl up in a library stocked with design magazines and books on Egyptian art and history, or lay by the pool in a lush garden of mature mango, acacia, and date palm trees. Both restaurants serve typical Egyptian dishes (the chef stirs coconut into his baba ghanoush, a tasty twist on an Egyptian classic). Amid the quiet neighborhood of historic villas, mosques, a synagogue, and low-rise apartment buildings, the hotel is a five-minute stroll to Road Nine, Maadi’s main street, popular for its mix of vegetable sellers and small souks offering shisha pipes, cartouches, and other souvenirs. The Cairo Metro stops here on the way to Coptic Cairo and Tahrir Square, while the Pyramids are 30 minutes away by car. The helpful hotel staff can arrange taxis, feluccas, and private guides."

Villa Belle Epoque | Best places to stay in Cairo

"Cairo has few boutique hotels and none as well run and luxurious as the Belle Epoque. In a garden quarter in southern Cairo, the Belle Epoque occupies a 1920s villa that exudes period style and refinement. Developed in 2009 by a family that also operates small luxury boats on the Nile, the Belle Epoque is unique in the city – independent, elegant, luxurious and a far cry from the impersonal large chain hotels. There’s a lovely outdoor pool overlooked by palms, mango and guava trees. Staff are extremely friendly and attentive, helping to create a relaxed ambience. It is removed from the main attractions though, and it can take a long time to drive into the city centre (Egyptian Museum and Islamic Cairo, for instance) through Cairo’s traffic-clogged streets. The metro station, however, is five minutes walk; you can be in the centre in 20 minutes. " - Matthew Roach

The place doesn't need further reviews as everything is really mice and the vibes are outstanding as always. It is a piece from the good times. The thing I will keep on mentioning all the time is people attitude; as much as the time pass and as high as the reputation of the place goes, people are still extremely nice and friendly; everybody smiles once they see u and everybody is always ready to help. I love the staff as much as I love the place.

Beautiful, serene and authentic place. Very friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent food. A small nice pool in a pleasant garden (that gets overtaken by restaurant guests). Lovely cats, and some dog noise at night. Location OK (close to metro and shops) though the neighborhood is cosmopolitan upper class and lacks authentic Egyptian food (lots of other food though). A very nice place to stay.

Lunch in the garden never disappoints. Everything is delicious. One of the apps is small and overpriced. It’s the only negative I can ever say. Nice peaceful place, great food.

I’ve only been to the restaurant never checked in the rooms itself. The place is definitely one of my favorite places the food is amazing I’ve spent multiple birthdays over there. The location is magnificent the trees vibes food and all. A really romantic dining place too. Service is decent but it takes them a bit to serve the food. But really recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Villa Belle Époque in Cairo and was truly impressed by its charm and character. Nestled in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, this boutique hotel offers a calm retreat from the bustle of the city. The staff were respectful and courteous. The hotel’s British-style decor adds a unique touch—elegant, classic, and full of character. My room was very clean and well-maintained, offering a comfortable space to relax. While there weren’t quite enough electric plugs for modern needs, it was a minor inconvenience in an otherwise delightful room. Breakfast was quite good with a decent variety of options to start the day off right. Overall, Villa Belle Époque offers a cozy, refined atmosphere and a tranquil setting—ideal for anyone looking to unwind in style.

The place is super cute and really aesthetic. The service was extremely slow. We wanted to order something off the menu and they told us it’s only a lunch item. A table came after us and they served them that exact food item.

Our room was lovely and spacious, with a veranda sitting area. Antique furniture, excellent air con, spotlessly clean and wonderful breakfasts. The staff are lovely. The hotel is in a very safe, leafy suburb, and due to a number of embassies located here there is a large police prescence

This was one of our top hotel stays during our 6 week length tour of Egypt in Jan 2025, my 7th trip in the country. Maadi is a special niche place in Cairo and the hotel is both beautiful and well appointed. Food was excellent too. Very helpful staff throughout, from the men at the door, dealing with luggage and cars, to the reception. Will defiantly stay here again for it’s an oasis within Cairo!
