Not child-friendly and concerning barefoot safety policy – upsetting experience
Villa Carmignac sells tickets that include free entry for children under 12, so we expected a family-friendly environment. However, our 6-year-old was spoken to harshly by a guard in a way that left him in tears for several minutes.
Families with babies were also not allowed to bring in nappies, drinks, or water bottles, and strollers are not permitted indoors, which makes visits extremely difficult for parents
Visitors are required to walk barefoot inside, yet staff are allowed to wear shoes. Some floors and steps did not appear safe or grippy enough for barefoot movement, especially for children. As an “Établissement Recevant du Public” in France, flooring should meet safety standards for barefoot use (e.g., NF P 05-011 PN classification), and stair edges should be non-slip and visibly marked.
No reassurance was given that the floors were tested for barefoot safety, no grip socks were provided, and no warnings were shared beforehand.
Overall, despite admitting children, the experience felt unsafe, unfriendly, and distressing for our child. I urge the venue to clarify its barefoot safety compliance and improve staff conduct and family accessibility.
