Villa Florentine (Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) 7 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The most spectacular views in all of Lyon are to be had from the terraces and windows of the Villa Florentine. This seventeenth-century former convent is positioned at the heart of Vieux Lyon, at the highest point of the historic district, taking in the stunning vistas and Renaissance-era architecture of this scenic city. The hotel, as the name rather literally implies, recalls a Florentine villa, constructed in an Italianate style; even the golden creams and pinks of the building’s exterior look like something from a master painting. Inside, though, it’s an homage to a different, more modern Italy. Interiors are a remarkable blend: the property includes both a 17th-century and a 15th-century building, connected via a corridor galleria. Within each of the twenty-nine individually styled rooms of the old convent is a mix of stark Italian modernist furniture with Renaissance reproduction pieces and contemporary artworks. The main building now includes five luxury apartments. Some rooms have mezzanines or terraces, others hardwood floors and beamed ceilings, and many take advantage of the villa’s position for spectacular views. The views, though, are typically not the main reason for visiting Lyon; this is France’s culinary center, and the food is often the primary attraction. Villa Florentine’s restaurant, though, offers both. Les Terrasses de Lyon is as sensibly named as the hotel itself, and is exactly what it claims to be — a MICHELIN-Starred restaurant occupying the convent’s dining room as well as the terrace outside, with the city as a picturesque backdrop." - Tablet Hotels

Villa Florentine | Best places to stay in Lyon

"The height of luxury, comfort and peace in Lyon, this magical hotel is set midway up the Fourvière hillside. The property served for many centuries as a convent, but has been superbly transformed. Beyond the grandiose entrance hall are bright, spacious bedrooms with tremendous views down on Lyon. You can also look out across the rooftops of old Lyon from the outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Villa Florentine is home to one of Lyon’s finest restaurants, which matches Michelin-starred food with a memorable setting, complete with garden terraces, conservatory and yet more city skyline views. It’s a great place to take in the big city while feeling removed from it – perfect for those who want to sightsee but then withdraw to a relaxing retreat. " - Anna Brooke

Villa Florentine is a marvelous hotel. Staff - warm, welcoming, thoughtful and so helpful. Beautiful panorama of Lyon from the hilltop, beautiful rooms. A historic building itself, long ago a Celestine convent, and the wonderfully preserved frescos adorn the lobby. The Michelin-starred restaurant is wonderful, as is the breakfast. I should note if you are not a walker, getting to and from the historic old town sites and the rest of the city of Lyon will require a taxi or Uber, which is easy enough to get. We enjoyed the staircases and winding hilly streets, and riding the funicular up the hill in the evening with a 10-15 minute walk downhill to the hotel, but if you have mobility challenges the hilltop location is a consideration. We hope to return to Lyon and stay at the Villa Florentine again, it made our days in Lyon absolutely marvfelous!

From the moment I entered the hotel, I knew this experience would be a delight. The staff was warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful. My room was so spacious, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. Breakfast and room service were lovely, and my dinner in the gourmet terrace restaurant was remarkable. Also, the view of Lyon from this hilltop location is spectacular! I highly recommend this charming place to stay.

The hotel was spectacular. Since the moment me and my wife walked in the hotel was welcoming. We were helped by staff even at night time. Staff escorted to show the hotel room. They also were very helpful as guiding for touring the city in our own time. Also gave us great recommendations for lunch and dinner in the city to explore the culinary experience of Lyon. Would pick this hotel again and again if I visit Lyon.

What's not to love about the Villa Florentine? Spacious, historic, clean, beautifully perched above Lyon with stunning city views, we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights here. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Conciere recommendations were spot on. Our Suite 3 was gorgeous, with a huge terrace....a lovely place to relax after days of sightseeing. Breakfast was fine - not extraordinary - but no real complaints - - just not a stand out.

Google
Beautiful hotel perched above Vieux Lyon; views to match. There is a very convenient staircase (Montée des Chazeaux) adjacent to the hotel that drops you directly into Vieux Lyon (100ft+ climb though😅). For some reason, google walking directions avoids these stairs. If you’re in decent shape, it’s a fun way to zip in and out of the hotel. Service was impeccable. All staff were friendly and spoke English. Room was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate our huge luggage and us. The only complaint I have is there were a couple mosquitoes in the room every evening, despite keeping the windows closed. But I was able to catch them easily, so not a deal breaker.

Google
Absolutely stunning hotel in Lyon. It's obviously not a cheap hotel, but the service and rooms match the price. The staff was incredibly helpful, competent and friendly. Some of the best service we have ever received! The one-star MICHELIN restaurant is definitely worth a visit. The hotel is ideally located near many sights. The concierge arranged a private walking tour, and we also explored the city by electric bike. Both are highly recommended. Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend!

Our 3 day stay at Villa Florentine was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for better service and the views and rooms were spectacular. Thankfully we were in shape 65 year olds and were able to walk the steps and steep roads to get to and from the Old Town and up to the Basilica. And we used a few Ubers to get home late when our legs had given out. There wasn’t any bar service in the lobby but the restaurant would serve there. Just wish there would have been some less expensive options for wine. But this wasn’t a problem since we just enjoyed our wine in the excellent restaurants.

Nicely located just above the old town, but 240 steps down, or walk around, not good for elderly guests. We did fine, but were surprised . Concierge Quentin?, recommended gastronomic restaurant Monsieur P, awaiting their MIchelin Star in '26. Walked there and back. Not to be missed. Perfect. Thanks, jim zidell

Yelp
This hotel is exceptional! The staff is incredible. From the moment we arrived until we pulled away, they consistently delivered excellent service. Whether it was assisting with dinner reservations, directions, point of interests to visiting, they were on it with pleasure. The breakfast room is delightful as were the two gentlemen there working in the morning. The restaurant is beautiful and it is clear the people working there really want guests to have a great experience. We certainly did and can't wait to return! Thank you! Joan and Ted Grossman

Yelp
We loved this beautiful, historic hotel. From our spacious, immaculate room with a private terrace overlooking a charming, walled garden, to the great location, to the excellent food and unparalleled service, our entire stay was perfect. The staff was so genuinely warm and welcoming to us. They were helpful, kind, accommodating, and gracious at every turn. It was hands down the best treatment we've received at home or abroad and put the other Forbes Five Star, AAA Five Diamond resorts we've stayed at to shame. We highly recommend it and will stay here again on our next visit to Lyon.

Yelp
Beautiful property, outstanding service by the entire staff, clean room and bathroom.

Yelp
Great Location, Amazing Pool and view. Super outdoor space for seating by the pool. We had 2x Deluxe rooms with amazing private terrace space... Rooms were spacious and meticulously clean. Great staff all the way from bell service to front desk, concierge, room cleaning, service staff. Food by the poolside was delicious. We had omelets 2 days in a row at breakfast, they were textbook, really one of the best I had. Negatives: Furniture in the rooms are outdated. Toilet is separate from Main Bathroom / Shower. Feels cramped. Wifi Spotty at times, especially in the room.

Yelp
My husband and I stay at Villa Florentine recently and had great time. Our room was very clean, spacious, and quiet with very comfortable bed. It has a large patio with great view of the city and basilica of Notre Dame. The staff was great. They were very professional and provided excellent services. Month ahead, I emailed the hotel that I wanted to make the spa appointments, the receptions and concierge were very helpful helping me get spa appointments confirmed. And the treatments were really nice. Highly recommend Villa Florentine if you are going to Lyon.

Yelp
This is the nicest hotel we stayed at in all of France. It is curated perfectly, the staff is perfect, our room and garden were perfect, the food was perfect.....however the WiFi was terrible. Regardless if you are coming to Lyon do yourself a favor and stay at the historically interesting and did I say perfect little hotel???

Yelp
Definitely not Relais and Chateau service or quality. Despite multiple requests far in advance for best view, we were given a room with a small window in the corner. Dinner was one of the worst we have ever had. Main dish was gelatinous fish "soup" so dense it was edible with a fork and desert described as a crumble was panacotta with a few crumbs sprinkled on top. Went away hungry and very disappointed.

Mary D.

Yelp
We loved staying here. The accommodations were upscale, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. The location is perfect for exploring the old town of Lyon. One word of caution - the WiFi code does not have a password so Apple devices will not accept it.

Jeremy D.

Yelp
The staff, the hotel, the spa, the amenities are all top notch. The value is exceptional.

Brett T.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful and our room had a phenomenal view of the city. But most importantly, the entire staff could not have been more helpful and nice. From check in we were greeted with a lovely juice on the Terrance and then a brief orientation on the hotel and then our room. Given we were traveling back to the US after our stay in Lyon, the concierge arranged our PCR tests as we were certainly out of our element in trying to figure out where to go for this. They were so helpful in arranging cars and printing documents for us. The pool deck is awesome too!

Yelp
I will NEVER recommend or come to this snobby restaurant again!! My boyfriend made reservations at this restaurant from the United States to surprise me for my special birthday. He is from Lyon and he called and confirmed the reservation once we arrived in Lyon. We paid for a taxi to take us to the restaurant. We dressed up very nice to go for my special dinner. Once we arrived (masks on) we were asked for our vaccination cards. We were vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine but were never instructed to bring our passports or vaccination cards nor it this time is it a requirement to have them to eat at a restaurant at this time. We have been in many restaurants this week and never have been asked for our vaccination cards and the requirements by the government to have your vaccine to go to restaurants currently does not start until August 9. Today s August 2!! We nicely informed them that they should have informed us that they require the vaccine card especially since it is not required by law yet. They basically said "too bad you can't eat here without the card. We had the proof of our negative Covid tests that were 3 days old but they would not even accept that. They refused to seat us and they ruined my special birthday dinner. I left in tears as I knew my boyfriend had planned a special dinner for me. We were fortunate enough to call another restaurant called "Leon de Lyon" and explained our situation and they were kind enough to make us a last minute reservation and made my birthday dinner very special.. The entire staff and meal at "Leon de Lyon" went above and beyond to make my dinner and day extra special. I highly recommend that if you plan to book a special restaurant with the finest of food and service book "Lyon de Leon" We will NEVER book or recommend La Villa Florentine. If you want to look at the view go to the top of the mountain and look at the view but don't haev your day ruined by going to the snobby "La Villa Florentine"!,, Thank you so much La Villa Florentine for ruining my birthday dinner for NO REASON and please be courteous enough to inform people that make a reservation of your OWN stupid requirement of having their vaccine card when it is not yet a requirement in France yet!!! You are CRAZY!!!

Yelp
We loved our stay. The property is stunning at every corner. The pool is to die for with an unbeatable view perched above the city. We got the standard room and was gorgeous and sprawling, like an apartment with a living room and a quiet, secluded entrance. The staff was top notch luxury and super friendly and attentive. The concierge steered us away from our dinner plans and found an absolute perfect fit that we would never have found on our own. The breakfast is lovely. Lunch by the pool was delicious. My only complaint is the wifi - it's basically unusable. It's a historic building, so you expect unavoidable issues, but even in the lobby it barely crawls if you can connect at all. They appear to be using consumer-grade networking and a generation behind.

Yelp
Very disappointed. After many trips to Lyon over the last few years we finally spent a night here. We had a wonderful meal at the restaurant in the past and were excited to stay. Also, the common areas are nicely maintained and decorated. Room 20 was ours - dark colors with a dark rug and odd lay out - including steps up to the bathroom. Small windows with no nice view whatsoever, just a neighboring building. Furniture and fixtures are very old and need updating. Loud traffic noise from the road if you open the windows. Wall thermostat that seems to control nothing. Wi-Fi non-functioning. Would never recommend and won't be back. Shame as we were reconsidering the host hotel for the company I work for in Lyon.

Yelp
We enjoyed 3 days in Lyon. Our room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful. We loved the restaurants they reserved for us. Great place to stay and great for walking up and down stairs.

Yelp
Yelp
This place is really horrible. The photos online are very misleading. I have posted real photos of our room. I paid a fortune to stay here and it was more like a 1 star motel. To start the bathroom had mold and stains all over. The water came out the faucet in a way that actually sprayed all over the bathroom. The wc was horrible. The curtains had holes in them (look at the photos) the artwork looked like it was purchased at a garage sale. The furniture was dirty read oak with strange mirrors on it. And the couch was cheap plastic that was so uncomfortable to sit on. If you plan to walk to restaurants from here - be prepared to burn 1,000 calories walking up and down the 900 stairs to get to the main restaurant area. I asked for a better room and they actually said I got this room because I booked it online and not direct thru the hotel. This junior suite is really a not so sweet.

Yelp
We loved our three night stay at Villa Florentine, a modern hotel in an historic building that was recommended to us by a wine merchant from our home city. The hillside location must be the best in Lyon with its panoramic views north over the city. The hospitality and care we experienced from the hotel team were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble from recommending where to eat, to allowing us the full use of the pool and amenities after checkout until our evening flight. The pool and gardens were beautiful and a treat to return to in the afternoons. Our room was very comfortable with a spacious, contemporary bathroom. I rarely write a review but the Villa Florentine hospitality and amenities were exceptional and we appreciated and enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Hotel Villa Florentine, 5 star Relais & Châteaux, is perched upon Lyon's Fourvière hillside. We had the most fabulous wedding reception there! We stayed in the Presidential Suite & everything about our experience was magical. I highly recommend you go there!!

June R.

Yelp
This truly is a 5 star hotel. Best view of Lyon by far!! Impeccable details to everything including service.

Yelp

Yelp
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Villa Florentine. We would come back when we travel to Lyon.
