Villa Ippocampi, Koutouloufari, Crete - Explore & Book

"In the hillside village of Koutouloufari, with views down to Crete’s busy north coast, Villa Ippocampi makes a surprisingly blissful retreat for a relaxed summer holiday or an off-season escape a deux. The owners are a Greek-Dutch couple: Nikos, who originates from the village, and his Dutch wife Lydia who has lived on the island since 1984. Laid-back and restful, the white Cycladic-style building offers 13 simple but stylish suites of various sizes, each with a kitchenette. Set in a walled garden planted with lavender, bougainvillea, geraniums and a towering palm tree, it gives onto a lovely pool and poolside café serving coffee, juices and cocktails till sunset, after which peace reigns. Head out to explore the local villages, packed with small friendly tavernas and cafes, and the beaches within reach. Highs Really personal service and friendly welcoming atmosphere – many guests are return visitors We loved the simple but attractive blue-white décor, pepped up with pink flowers, ceramic jars and flickering lanterns Very peaceful and private, thanks to the hedges and walled gardens, plus a lovely pool Lying between the sea and mountains, low-key Koutouloufari offers a handful of authentic eateries and informal cafes frequented by locals Excellent proximity to local shops and tavernas, as well as three lovely villages Lows No restaurant – the poolside cafe only serves drinks, so unless you're self-catering, for all meals you’ll need walk to the nearby villages The commercialised resorts of Hersonissos, Malia and Stalida are only 5km away, but easily avoided The terraces of the ground-floor suites at the front look straight onto the pool area, so lack privacy No kids under 12 means maximum tranquillity for couples On our last visit, we noticed noise from passing mopeds" - Jane Foster

Great experience from booking to end of holiday. Sophia was always responsive and helpful when I got in touch. We arrived on a late flights and she left clear instructions of how to find and get into our room. We had one of the penthouse suites which was airy and open plan with gorgeous views of the sea below. The apartment has a large, private terrace with deck chairs and table and small, well equipped kitchenette. Albeit to the proximity of many Tavernas and restaurants across the three Hillside villages we rarely ate at the apartment. Family have ran the villa for 40 years and are very knowledgeable about the area and well respected locally. Sophia provided great recommendations of places to visit and eat and was always contactable if needed. Really well maintained boutique hotel in beautiful gardens with an authentic and friendly, relaxed vibe. Highly recommend!

This was our second time in Koutouloufari and first time at Villa Ippocampi and we loved our stay here and only regret not booking a few extra nights. Located in a very peaceful and beautiful garden it's probably one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Sophia and her mum are very welcoming and friendly and made us feel at home. We will definitely stay here again next time we come to Koutouloufari.

I very much liked everything about my stay there. The staff at Villa Ippocampi is pleasant, professional, kind and very accommodating the guests request. The best example that on the day I left (I had a late flight back home) I was offered to stay as long as I wanted and enjoy the pool, and before I left I could even take a shower and change. AMAZING! My room was amazing, lost of privacy, with a nice terrace to relax. It was sparkling clean, and cleaning takes place many times. The location is very good, walking distance from the charming town centre and that centre is also very nice. Lots of good places to have drinks, buy some souvenirs and good food all around. It has been one of the best holiday experiences I ever had.

The recommendation to stay here was fantastic, as it is an excellent small Villa hotel with self-catering accommodation (each with private balcony), a pool and small bar with snacks. This was everything we could have wished for in a peaceful location while near to lots of good restaurants and shops. The recommendation to hire a car was a good one as there is much to see and enjoy from Minoan palace sites, beautiful beaches, wine growing area and many other attractions. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful which made us feel really welcome and made the difference between a good holiday and a great one! We would recommend it unreservedly!

Only booked up 1 week before , perfect week stay, great position in town, lovely atmosphere and homely feel and Maria was the perfect host, only small pool and a limited amount of sunbeds which did concern me at first but we were the only ones sitting by the pool each day was perfect, loads of guests hired cars and used as a base, limited amount of food available but the breakfast bruschetta was amazing, cold drinks available through the day. Apartment was fab, clean airy and suffice, typical Greek feel, air conditioning was great, only Wi-Fi was an issue|Highly recommended

We spent four nights here, and loved the tranquility of this place. The rooms (small apartments) were simple but stylish. The area by the pool was beautiful - beautifully designed and maintained. It was peaceful and quiet here, in an otherwise busy location. The apartment had a small kitchen, so we were able to prepare a simple breakfast each morning. Both the room and the hotel grounds were lovely places to spend a quiet morning or afternoon. There were plenty of decent restaurants a short walk away. We didn't have a car, but it would beneficial as Hersonissos itself is not a particularly nice place - very touristy and a bit rundown - so you definitely want to head east for some natural beauty.

You enter a small Greek "paradise" when you come through the gate of Villa Ippocampi. A beautiful, very stylish and family-run hotel/apartment complex with a dreamlike garden and pool area. Spacious, charming and with great attention to detail designed apartments that leave nothing to be desired. Nikos and his family are wonderful and warm hosts and Maria, a true "sunshine"! A perfect "secret hideaway", for all who are looking for peace, rest and relaxation on the beautiful island of Crete. We have enjoyed our vacation here very much and will be happy to come back! Awesome place. Nice appartements including a small kitchen and a living room. The Pool area is beautiful with perfect water temperature, you can stay there the whole day without getting bored. We were lucky and had a balcony with pool and sea view. Wifi works great, service is perfect (Maria is the best, please give her a raise ;-) ). Also good drinks and snacks. The location is great, there are a lot of restaurants nearby and to walk down to the sea takes only about 15 minutes and you don't want to have a hotel down there because it's too loud. So in sum it's pretty much perfect :-)
