Some hotels are convenient places to stay along your route. A few are worthy destinations in their own right. Villa Mirasol is in the latter category. Considerable care has gone into the restoration and maintenance of this lovely 1912 vintage mansion. The staff makes a real effort to make you feel at home. The art work, both in the public rooms and guest rooms is distinctive and memorable. The guest rooms are very comfortable with many thoughtful touches such as the lighting, bathroom amenities, very comfortable bed, large flat screen television, etc.||||The breakfast service is the best we have experienced on this trip, with many farm to table touches, such as local yogurts, breads, pastries, jams.||||While we generally enjoyed their restaurant, I was critical about our being presented with two soups (one an amuse de bouche), and more significantly a rather bland cheese course, the same cheeses offered (and bypassed) at breakfast. Our server offered us an alternative dessert, which we declined. As we checked out, the proprietors took the charge for the course off the bill. This was appreciated more for their attention and concern than the actual bill reduction.||||It is a small hotel (7 rooms), and one of the owners made sure to say bon journee and goodbye as we checked out. This is the personal touch which is representative of why we would be delighted to return and why we encourage you to seek them out if you are traveling anywhere in the vicinity. Mont-de-Marsan is not a major tourist attraction, but it is an interesting and distinctive venue worth discovering. Villa Mirasol is an ideal base for savoring the town and its surroundings.
