"Diners walk past the open kitchen into the trendy dining space, where attentive service comes courtesy of a friendly and dedicated front-of-house team. The cuisine is modern and seasonal, with many ingredients sourced from regional producers. Dishes such as ravioli, Parmigiano Reggiano and green olive or guinea fowl, chanterelles and lovage demonstrate a pleasing sense of clarity and coherence with delightful contrasts and perfectly balanced flavours. The small cards providing information about the dishes are a nice idea. Create your own menu by choosing five, seven or nine courses. The staff will be happy to recommend wines from their Tauberhase range. Tip: tasteful hotel accommodation at Villa Mittermeier." - Michelin Inspector

Villa Mittermeier (Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Bavarian town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a beautifully preserved medieval gem, but that doesn’t mean its lodgings are necessarily backward-looking in their style. Villa Mittermeier stands right by the Würzburger Gate at the entrance to Rothenburg’s old town, and the building that it occupies is indeed a classic one. But what family owners Ulli and Christian Mittermeier have created here is a boutique hotel that’s right at home in the 21st century." - Tablet Hotels

I had an amazing stay at Villa Mittermeier in Rothenburg. I am a regular visitor to the area because I have dear family friends who live nearby and also because I love Rothenburg ob der Tauber so much! From start to finish, I had an amazing experience. I was greeted warmly at Reception and was allowed to check in early to my beautiful and well appointed room. It was immaculately cleaned - I mean spotless! The room darkening automated shades were great, the in-room coffee, tea and water service were fabulous, the toiletries smelled amazing. The shower was tiled in the most opulent and gorgeous stone and the bedding was oh-so-comfortable that it was extremely difficult to leave! The location is a mere 7-8 minutes walk right to city center, and the Michelin restaurant inside can’t be missed! The breakfast is outstanding and full of every single breakfast possibility you can imagine. I did not park this time, but parking is available and nothing was missed. The staff are so kind and warm, it’s like staying with friends and you definitely also have plenty of privacy and space. I look forward to my return in March 2026! I recommend this hotel absolutely and cannot say enough fantastic things about my stay. My check out was as lovely as my check-in, and I enjoyed meeting everyone. Thank you so much, until next time. Auf Wiedersehen from Mrs. Cash!

We had the most beautiful stay here over Christmas. Our rooms were serviced every day and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We opted to have breakfast included, and this was delicious. The hotel is warm, comfortable and very clean. The staff, especially Itnez (I’m sorry, that spelling is probably wrong) helped us organise our travel to Nuremberg after our travel plans fell through. We would have been lost without her help. Thank you for an amazing stay, it was truly memorable.

Beautiful old inn. Our room was on the top floor and some unique shape to it, but they did a nice job of making sure it worked and provided a great experience. A few things to be aware of. In our room, there was no privacy if you are showering. Not a problem for us as a couple, but could be for others. There is no elevator, so we had to carry some heavy bags up the stairs. We survived. The location is great - just outside the city walls. Easy access to everything. There’s an on-site restaurant, but we didn’t take advantage of it. Very friendly and helpful staff. On site parking. I’d go back.

Hotel is charming and close to points of interest. They have a very nice breakfast buffet, however, it's a little expensive. Our room was nice, but a little awkward as rooms tend to be when you convert an old building into a hotel. There were a couple of things that could have been better which would have made our stay more pleasant. 1. There was no notification that we would be on the 3rd floor. 2 single women lugging their luggage up 6 flights of winding stairs was pretty rough. Had we known there would be no elevator we would have found another hotel. The second disappointment was the cdll we received the day we left. We had gone to the front desk the evening before to settle our bill and let them know we would be leaving at 4am and just wanted to make sure we had done everything necessary. The evening front desk person told us that we were all set. The next day our pleasant trip was interrupted by a call from one of the staff at the hotel who was angry, rude and accusing us of skipping out on our bill. Not the best way to handle a problem. I was able to settle the bill later, however, it made our stay less than desirable.

Google
The perfect location just outside the city wall with the most friendly and courteous staff I’ve encountered in years of travel! The continental breakfast was great, but the option of freshly cooked eggs your style and a side of bacon was a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed in anything!

This hotel is so nice! The room was lovely and comfortable. The breakfast was great. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I wish I got the name of the Hungarian woman at the front desk. She was so sweet. And her English was amazing! The location can not be beat. Unfortunately, when we were there the restaurant was closed.

My wife and I stayed here for our drive of the Romantic Road and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The hotel’s exterior was charming, it was uniquely decorated and the staff was friendly. Our room was clean and very spacious, with a nice town tower view from the window seat. It’s located just outside the city walls, so it’s the perfect short distance to walk and explore this quaint town on foot! We can’t recommend a visit to this amazing town enough - it was our favourite place we visited in Germany, and we would absolutely stay at the wonderful Villa Mittermeier again!

Last minute booking at this hotel for our group of 6 (3 rooms). The hotel was very accommodating and provided us an upgrade on one of the rooms at same charge to ensure we were all in the same building. ||Hotel has a Michelin star restaurant in the building but we didn't have the opportunity to try it as we were only in Rothenberg 1 night. It looked good but pricy, which you would expect at a Michelin star restaurant.||The rooms were lovely and had a great spacious shower in them. Our room had a patio with a couple chairs. ||The hotel is literally across the street from the walled city, which was perfect as that was what we were there to see. ||Charming hotel!

Yelp
Given its price point, I had no regrets having booked this property, it's good. Nothing amazing of course at this price point, about what one would expect. Hard to imagine that this counts as a 4 Star, but do keep in mind that ratings in Europe are different. I'd put it at a 3 Star without doubt. Design: the exterior neoclassical design is quite nice, it is cozy, inviting and at the same time, elegant. Probably the best part about the hotel. The lobby is small and simple, as one would expect for a hotel in this range. The room design was also quite a simple one and was a bit cramped, but modern and nice which is contrasting to many hotels in Rothenburg that show their age and lack of upkeep. Service: at check in, they were very direct as people appear to be all around Germany. Basically, straight to the point, no chatter. The lady was kind to walk us to the room. Comfort: the room bedding was again about what one would expect, not particularly comfortable, but bearable. There is no air conditioning, which can get annoying depending on the weather. Coffee maker did not work despite many attempts. Parking is very limited. Shower was nice and hot. Overall impression, I'd stay here again as options are pretty slim in Rothenburg. However, it does have improvement areas and this design is much nicer than the old hotels around town.

Yelp
Breakfast was fantastic. The omelette is incredible. The hotel is great too - just a little warm in the summer with no ac or fans

Yelp
This is a gorgeous little hotel situated right outside Rotheburg ob der Tauber's old city walls. The location is excellent and there's a small parking lot for cars, which is quite convenient. If you can't fit in the hotel's lot, there's a public lot right across the road. Villa Mittermeier looks more like a fabulous giant home rather than a hotel. There are a few corridors and stairs to navigate until you make it to your room, which is pleasantly updated with contemporary amenities and furniture - a rare find in historic Rothenburg. The double rooms are small, but efficient and elegant. You get a nice modern television, great bed and bedspread, and one of those futuristic looking coffee machines. There's even a minibar! For a small, bed and breakfast-type place, Mittermeier hits all the marks. My only real issues were that (1) the internet connection was shoddy at best, and (2) the common area was closed from 9:00pm. Other than that, everything was lovely!

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 nights recently, after seeing pictures on Expedia. We ended up booking their highest category room directly from their website instead (it wasn't available on Expedia). The room was spacious and modern, but not a "cold" or uninviting type of modern. The bed was very comfortable, as was the space. We requested extra pillows and they were there when we arrived. Staff was very friendly. Everything was updated in a professional way. The bathroom had a floor heater and the lighting in the room was amazing. The rest of the hotel is beautiful, inside and out. Someone else on Yelp likened it to a "giant house" and I would agree, it feels like you are staying at your rich uncle's mansion. The common rooms upstairs are elegant and comfortable. Although it was too cold for the front porch, that space also looks very inviting. The location is great, you can walk in about 90 seconds through one of the main towers and you are inside! I loved how we were not in the chaos of parking, driving, and pedestrians but that we were so close. The downsides, which may not be downsides for everyone, were mostly minor. First, our room was directly under the "after dinner drinks" room, so we started to hear noise and footsteps by 6:30 a.m. or 7 a.m. daily as staff started to open. We were also located on the first floor (down below the main/second floor) near the bathrooms for the restaurant and the elevator for the hotel. Had we not been there during off-season, during which few rooms were rented and the restaurant was closed, this likely would have been a much noisier room. In the future, I would ask for a second or third floor room, away from the stairs. Second, I was not a big fan of their toiletries, especially the lotion. Third, they lock the common spaces when the front desk closes, so if you want to go upstairs and use any of their living room spaces after hours, you are out of luck. Fourth, the reception desk is curiously located behind a screen (partition) so when you walk in, someone may call out and you don't know where they are...because they are sitting behind a screen (?). That didn't make any sense to me. Fifth, breakfast is not included, it's about 12 euros pp. They told us it was a "very good breakfast, you will like it," but with the exception of a few items, I was not impressed. It was a spread that was smaller with less quality than two other hotels at which we had stayed earlier in our trip. They offered hot drinks and juice but no water (and we had just gone running). The waitress asked us what types of eggs we wanted and we ordered quite simple dishes--it was only later we saw their printed menu and several additions to your eggs are possible (e.g., chives, ham, bacon, vegetables). I wish she would have told us that. Perhaps this was due to being off-season, but should we stay there again (which is a very strong possibility if we ever find ourselves in that corner of the world again), I would not spend that amount of money for the breakfast. Sixth, the shower and toilet are located in little glass rooms with glass doors that slide together, but not all the way. So basically, there is really no visual or auditory privacy if you are on the toilet and water got all over the floor in the entire bathroom from the shower because there was nothing stopping it from going under and through the space where the glass doors did not meet. If you went with a friend, family member, or dating partner (new relationship), that entire situation might be a edgy and fun or grossly uncomfortable. Last, our room was really hot. It's possible we just didn't find the thermostat in the room, but we felt we could not regulate the heat. On the second night, we had to sleep with the slider doors open (it was 30 degrees outside) because there are no windows at that level--a little disconcerting in that anyone could have snuck in. Overall, beautiful space, tasteful and elegant. Room make-overs are stellar. There are a few points that could use some extra tweaking but we would definitely stay here again.
