This restaurant is beautiful, and we had super high expectations since we rented a room for $300 to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a party of 14. Everyone's food came out and was perfect....except mine and my husband's. I ordered the Chilean sea bass, and it was burnt on the bottom. My husband ordered the Matador special, which was a NY strip, medium rare. 2 others ordered the exact same thing. While they received their plates, my husband was told his was on the way. 30 minutes later, after everyone was done eating, he still didn't have his. All we got was 'sorry about that'. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Villa Montez is one of those places I’ve always wanted to try and for some reason, I’ve never made my way around to actually trying it. I’m very guilty of doing this with many restaurants. I called yesterday and made a reservation for 5:30pm today for my wife and I. I spent the good part of last night thinking about it as well haha. When you first walk up to this establishment, you’ll probably find that you’re instantly taken back by the sheer beauty of everything. From the exquisite gardens and sculptures, to the stunning architecture. Everything just seems like it’s where it’s meant to be. When we walked in, we were politely greeted by the hostess and a very kind gentleman by the name of Eli. We informed him of our reservation and he took us right to a table that sat inside a room with massive windows, overlooking the patio. Our waitress came by shortly after and took our drink order. I believe her name was Rosa and she was the absolute best. A minute or 2 went by and she brought our drinks out with some chips and salsa. She also took our food and appetizer order. I ordered the tequila lime chicken pasta as my main dish and my wife wanted the queso fundido as hers. We also got the spinach and artichoke dip. The chips and salsa were incredible. The chips seemed very fresh and still warm and the salsa had a very good flavor. Slight kick, but nothing too much. The spinach and artichoke dip was honestly the best I’ve ever had and I’m not even exaggerating. The roasted jalapeno and garlic was such a nice touch. My wife’s queso had the perfect consistency and flavor and it also came with 3 homemade tortillas. To say that I enjoyed my pasta would be an understatement. The chicken was cooked to perfection, as well as the noodles. The fresh herb pesto cream had such a unique flavor to it in the best way possible. To wrap things up, we ordered a slice of tres leches. We had no idea it would end up being almost 4 inches tall!!! It was so incredibly moist, not soggy. The homemade whipped cream was spectacular. Overall it was an amazing dessert. I hate that I’ve waited so long to try this place. If you’re reading this and you’ve yet to try it out, go now!!!

We’re visiting from Houston and just knew we had to try the Villa Montez! As you pull in it’s a beautiful view, inside has a nice romantic vibe and don’t let me get started on the food and drinks!! Our server Makenzie was amazing and so kind! Gave us recommendations on what yo try and she didn’t fail us! Definitely a must try when you’re in Tyler!

Google
Amazing food. Service started slow, but ended up good overall. The atmosphere could be better, construction of an addition is underway, and the outdoor experience wasn't great. (Also noticed it was very loud indoors when we moved due to rain.)

Google
Date night was a great night! We love the ambiance at Villa Montez. We decided to sit in the bar, which had our server hopping, but the service was still friendly and as quick as it could possibly be given the crowd that night. The food was delicious and even the owner or possibly manager greeted everyone at their tables to say hello and make sure we were taken care of. We will definitely be back for another date night soon!

Google
This long established restaurant is a staple of Tyler, Texas. Reservations are recommended. Although the exterior is a bit worn, it remains a beautiful setting with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff seemed a little stretched. This led to a little slower service, but the server was very friendly. We had Hors d'oeuvres and main course. The food flavors were quite good. I recommend this restaurant, especially for a couple on an evening out!

Google
Villa Montez is an upscale Latin restaurant. It is a large Spanish style villa with a large deck and beautiful landscaping. The atmosphere is fantastic because it is beautiful inside and out. Anything you choose on the menu is good. You can't go wrong. We had the Chilean Sea Bass, steak with Chimchurri sauce and Lamb. It was all wonderful. The service was great. Go for a nice night out on the town.

Yelp
My best friends and I recently visited Villa Montez and it was absolutely AMAZING!! Its 10/10 stars. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was immaculate. I ordered the surf & turf (Carne Asada + Lobster) and it came with beans, rice & mixed vegetables. The surf & turf was delicious. The Carne Asada was so tender and juicy, the lobster was yummy and the sides were so, so good. The mixed vegetables were seasoned to perfection, the rice was good and the beans were excellent. For dessert, we had chocolate cake. It was moist and the icing was so fresh and sweet. I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant.

Yelp
What a surprise to find such a romantic, exclusive and fusion Latin Cuisine experience in Tyler, Texas. Set on a hill, this beautiful property is definitely eye catching from the intersection. I call it fusion Latin cuisine because their shrimp ceviche was definitely not your typical one. Surprised with the sweet and not expected pineapple pieces, I couldn't help myself from enjoying and eating all of it. And the plate presentation of this appetizer is on point! Well done! Love the M letter drawing, the 'tartar' set up and dollop of guacamole to hold the chip deco! I believe the chips are home made. Service was wonderful! Attentive. Was recommended the blue coconut jalapeño mojito and it was also different. I would have personally liked a classic mojito better. Coconut and jalapeño didn't rock my boat, but the presentation was lovely. For the entrees we went off the card and chose from their specials menu. The Osso Buco pork shank was juicy, fall off the bone, and deliciously flavorful! Bold in flavors. The tasty saucy beans balanced the bland cilantro lime rice. It was a large portion, couldn't finish the quantity but it was well-loved. The surf and turf dish was beautifully set up. The filet mignon steak was on top of chimichurri fries, and the overcooked lobster found its way on fajita vegetables. The steak that was cut in was more of a medium and not medium rare but still tasty and finished. This place is apparently popular amongst prom goers. Quite a few prom groups with photographers were taking pictures in and around the building earlier that evening. Aside from the food, service and ambience. Villa Montez could still improve with the welcoming hostess, and by cleaning up the construction materials in the back and by the parking lot.

Yelp
Perfect place for my boyfriend to take his friend. Food was good. People were good. They had fun

Yelp
Great place for a night out. I enjoyed the food so much! It was me and my friends first time here and they did not disappoint. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. The food was amazing and tasteful. Such a cute place and amazing view at night with the lights. I highly recommend and would come back. Also the chocolate cake is huge and shareable. If you haven't visited, please come you are missing out. Definitely adding this place into the rotation.

Yelp
Fresh handmade drinks, excellent chips and hot sauce and every thing that I tried on the menu did not disappoint. Try the Latino rolls as an appetizer and the California chimichanga (it is big enough for two people to share). The tenderloin Durango melts in your mouth. If you like margaritas try the ultimate. Nice relaxing setting and the service is top notch.

Yelp
Very good. Wide menu and good food. Service was excellent. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Excellent high end Mexican food, plus great service and ambience. The only downside is that sometimes there is "zero" parking available! (They need to fix this- the restaurant wasn't full, and I spent 15+ minutes waiting on someone to leave.)
google avatar

Martha O.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant is exceptional!! From the homemade salsa and chips, queso fundido with warm tortillas to the mole chicken enchiladas, everything was so delicious. The crème brute and chocolate cake are a must for dessert. The Ultimate margarita was tasty as well.

Yelp
Impeccable service- great food- top quality atmosphere- warm and inviting- staff was terrific

Yelp
When the food is good, it is very good. I really like the ceviche, but there are plenty of offerings to choose from, The service is good, but it does get crowded and of course, it slows down. The bar serves good drinks and is usually loud and jumping. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to sit outside and enjoy the lights. It's a great place to take guests that haven't been. It's great old house.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect place to dine for fine dining in Tyler - this place rivals any restaurant in any large city!! The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or a casual night out. Their drinks are as amazing as the food. Show some love and visit.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
My family has been here multiple times for special events. The food and service are always great. The pastas are HUGE so you definitely have some to take home the next day. I like the heat on the salsa but it's a little too watery so I wish there were more tomato chunks. Lots of great places on the grounds to take photos so be sure to check the whole place out!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was very good. The chocolate cake for dessert was excellent! Good place to celebrate a special occasion.

Yelp
Not much of menu selection and the old mansion is showing its age. Food was good. Looks like more fun when weather would have been warmer and patio open. We didn't try the drinks.

Santiago V.

Yelp
Coming from Vegas. And I highly recommend you come to villa Montez if you want to experience a different atmosphere from the hospitality to the margaritas, to the chimichurri NY strip!! If you want authentic Mexican hospitality this is the place to come. Thank you to Mundo and all the staff for an amazing time in Tyler TX

Yelp
It's was a beautiful, nicely decorated villa restaurant! Our waitress made many mistakes with our orders and the food came out slow. But the food was delicious and reasonably priced! I'd go back to eat here in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Terrible service. Forgot our reservation. Management did not care. Very crowded and noisy. Ignored us on drink orders and when it was time for dessert. Not sure anyone here cares anymore. They have learned to print money and that's all they care about. This too will be the death of your business. Seen it over and over.

Joanie T.

Yelp
My how things change. Met sisters for dinner. 4 of us, charged "extra gratuity" for large party, really??!! Barely saw waitress, but she was nice. Just seemed inexperienced. Arrived when open, very few customers, ask to sit on patio, given table in full sun & told that was best she had available but not one other customer yet...took over 45 min to have order taken. Tortilla soup very thin bouillon, not much else. Other food shrimp in thin sauce, etc. disappointing this visit. Beautiful place, sadly won't return.

Thom McBride ..

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been there. Food was not hot but good. The menu seams to b less than it was. It was disappointed. I little pricey for what u get.

Yelp
First, this is a beautiful location in an old hacienda sitting on top of the hill. Our server was honestly one of the best I've ever had. Super friendly, very courteous, and regularly checked in to make sure we had what we needed, without being overbearing. He was also super careful about my food allergy, confirming what was in each dish and even having the kitchen make substitutions on dishes that I didn't realize would need them. Dinner was delicious. All the usual choices for a Mexican restaurant, but all well made. But the highlight was the Chino Latino Rolls appetizer. Holy smokes these things were good. We split them between the four adults at our table, and I for sure violated that commandment about coveting, as I watched the last bites go down. If I'd known how good they were I would just have had them as my entree.

Yelp
Very nice upscale old mansion that was converted into a dining experience.the food is always on key and the service is very good we highly recommended the food and drinks and view it's a must go kinda place $$$
google avatar

Hani N.

Yelp
Food was less than impressive. Chicken tasted old, sauces are not very flavorful. The service was good though and the deserts were good. Ambience was amazing. Good place to gather but don't expect much of the food
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
This beautiful old mansion hosts a very nice Mexican restaurant. Most of the dishes aren't your typical Tex-Mex but more Baja style. This night we had Enchiladas Suizas and Pollo Durango. Absolutely delicious! House margaritas on the rocks are equally tasty. Their companion restaurants are equally good - 1836 also in Tyler and Montez Creekside in Whitehouse. Each one different and worth checking out!
google avatar

Audrey H.

Yelp
The food here was very good, with many different flavors. I did get a small piece of uncooked chicken but other than that it was quite amazing. The service was quick and nice. They didn't take too much time to deliver the food or check up on the group I was in. The waiters were very kind as well. The mood of the place was very calm and relaxing. There wasn't too much noise and I could hear well, besides the echo. The building is from an old mansion and it's been maintained well. I would recommend this restaurant and would definitely go again
google avatar

Yelp
It was amazing!! Prices were so affordable and staff is great, ambiance is everything. Coming in from California we definitely need places like this at this price.
google avatar

Preston I.

Yelp
I have to say, this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants I've been to in a long time. I don't know the history behind it, but I'm sure it used to be a mansion owned by a very wealthy family or politician. I came here on a Thursday night, and I couldn't stop marveling at the architecture and lights strewn all over the beautiful courtyards. It definitely gets 5 stars for ambiance. The food was very good. I came with a group of about 10, and we got a couple orders of queso to accompany the chips and salsa. Chips were fried perfectly and the salsa was delicious. The queso was unlike any queso I've ever had. Super thick, but super good. You just have to order it to see what I mean. For my entree, I chose the fajita burrito. I was very hungry, and someone told me the burritos here were big. A more fitting word would be enormous. It seemed like it was almost a foot long and filled with meat, rice, beans, and cheese. Definitely had to take half of it to go. I definitely wouldn't have expected a restaurant like this in Tyler, but it's a must try! A great place to get pics for your Instagram feed as well!

Yelp
I was fairly disappointed with my visit. We drive an hour to eat here for my wife's birthday. They recommend reservations so we made one. There was possibly 2 other tables in the entire restaurant, I only saw 1, but it is an oddly laid out restaurant. The first issue was the cocktail I ordered. It listed Chartreuse as an ingredient, which is very hard to get at the moment, but some restaurants do have some, there are also some acceptable substitutions for it, though not many. They were out of Chartreuse, which wasn't the issue. The issue was that the bartender made the drink and served it to me with no mention of that fact. It's an equal parts drink with 4 ingredients, so she just left out 1/4 of the cocktail. I asked her after a few sips and she said that they were out and she put some mango in it instead. Mango allergies exist, you can't just put something in a drink that's not listed, what if I had an allergy. The other issue were around service, incredibly slow, had to wait for the server multiple times, refills weren't prompt. And we were her only table. I also had an issue with the seating choice. They knew we were coming, it was only my wife and I, and they sat us at possibly the worst table in the restaurant. Right next to a TV, the only one in the entire restaurant, that was blaring basketball pregame commentary. Eventually my wife got up and found a remote and muted the tv. The restaurant is beautiful, there are several rooms with nice views, and a better ambiance, but we were seated next to a loud tv, in a room with no views. I would assume so that were were close to the bar, the bartender was waiting on us, but it definitely didn't help the service and just made our whole visit a poor experience. My wife and I don't get to go out very often, so it was disappointing that we had such a poor experience when I was taking her out for her birthday. To be fair the spinach artichoke dip was good.

Carole A. M.

Yelp
Good mother's Day Buffett. I have a disability and had to go upstairs so my family got my food. It didn't make the experience as nice as it could have been. There was no real provision for people with handicapped. It's a beautiful place and grounds.
google avatar

Joy L.

Yelp
We did not have reservations, but we were settled quickly and our waiter brought us water, chips, and salsa (which I liked a lot) in a timely manner. We had the artichoke and spinach appetizer, which was very good and we would order again. The shrimp enchiladas were excellent. We will be back.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Great food. The ceviche and fish dishes are phenomenal! Highly recommend. Great atmosphere and beautiful building.

Erin M.

Yelp
I definitely enjoy this place for the atmosphere! It's a fun spot for drinks. The food is average and we once got a strip of plastic in the pasta, but the staff and setting make it a nice experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Had been wanting to try this place for a while and was taken for my bday. It was a week day evening so not crowded.
google avatar

Joanna T.

Yelp
I've been here several years ago back when Tyler was still blossoming into more, though I don't really recall much of my experience here. The queso fundido is what I ordered for my appetizer, while my party members ordered the guac for theirs. It was delicious. The queso was creamy and just a piping hot skillet of cheesy goodness. The guac was pleasantly delicious as well. I enjoyed both appetizers very much. When it came to the entrees, I was slightly disappointed. I ordered my Chichurri steak medium rare, which is what it happened to be, but it was rather chewy. Too chewy. The flavor was good otherwise, but I enjoyed the vegetables more than I did the actual steak. Onward to dessert, the 3 layer chocolate cake was just delicious. It was moist and just decadent.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The staff is always SO friendly and very attentive. The views and atmosphere are wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious. The drinks are even better and you will definitely want more then one. The bar tender can almost always make you anything you like or even come up with a new drink depending on what you like. We come almost weekly and have never been disappointed. One of the owners are almost always present and the aesthetic of the restaurant is all ways 100%. I couldn't recommend a better place to go while in Tyler.

Olivia O.

Yelp
Ambiance and service was decent. It looks fancy, and has a nice fun and higher class atmosphere, but has higher prices to go along with it, nothing crazy. We spend 65 before tip with an appetizer, 2 entrees and two desserts. Waiter was helpful and nice, but the food was mediocre and had no seasoning. Very very bland. The only real " bad" thing was tres leches. I am a diehard tres leches fan, this was probably the worst I've ever had. It was dry (somehow) and had little to no milk at all. It also had that taste when something sits in the fridge too long uncovered with other foods and you get other tastes on it, if that makes sense. All in all, wouldn't go back but the ambiance was nice, but not worth the price.. ALSO edit, some things were more expensive on the receipt than what they were on the menu, like 3 or 4 dollars more. Not a big issue, but definitely gives scammy vibes

James H.

Yelp
Food not that good, chicken mole should not be on menu ( have had twice dry- not enough mole sauce ).
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Perfect date night spot without breaking the bank. One of Tyler's hidden gems and I'm sure glad we stopped in. Service was great and the ambiance was incredibly welcoming.

Wendy S.

Yelp
First, let's start with the atmosphere. This is an older house on top of the hill with a Spanish flare. We sat in a large room overlooking a beautiful balcony. I told my husband that it was a sort of room that made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The waitress was very friendly and informative. My husband ordered enchiladas suizas with chicken. I ordered a pasta dish with pesto and chicken, and the flavors were more of Mexico than of Italy. I think it had tomatillo sauce in it as well. Regardless , it was very good as were the enchiladas. The food was delicious and the atmosphere makes you want to linger. Highly recommend!

Lisa P.

Yelp
This is a really cool location. Great for date night or a patio day. The food is good and the drinks are too. The service has always been excellent.
google avatar

Jill L.

Yelp
I ordered a "steak" burrito. It turns out the $16 "steak" burrito is pot roast or at least it was that night. Pot roast makes me very sick so later that night I spent 3 hours in the bathroom and the entire next day in bed. Just a warning because a lot of people can not eat pot roast. I had only had a few bites and brought the rest home but those few bites really affected me. The rest of the burrito had to be thrown out. I will forever more ask what type of meat is being used in a burrito now. I had never thought of asking that before.
google avatar

Christine K.

Yelp
I took my husband here for his Retirement dinner. We had reservations and the hostess put us in the corner, probably where the employees eat the table was Ugly used and worn and carved, compared to a completely empty Restaurant of nice tables, see my pictures. When we got there all the fans were on ( Winter) we were freezing the guy was nice he turned them all off and put the heater on. He was an awesome waiter but ambiance and lack of food on the plate would leave me to lend an extra star to make it to three stars. As we sat there and Regular's were seated much different then us. They were Greeted with it's so nice to see you again seated at a nice table, and let me start you off with drinks and appetizers . Well we live here full time and will probably give it One more try maybe only because the Food is really good. I do recommend this establishment, but be prepared if you order the Sea Bass and pay $ 39 for a plate you are only getting a quarter of that fish. I know this I fish. Also if you order a plate you probably will get black beans on both sides of the plate instead of variety. Other than that I think it's worth going to. Price ratings $$$

Matthew M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Service was horrible! And to top it off we found bugs in our Manhattans... not in one drink but three. We don't know if it's because we complained after being seated 45min after our reservation or what. But definitely unacceptable. We asked the host if she could do something about the wait and she never followed up. At least our server compt that round. Don't know if I'll be returning.
google avatar

Dana P.

Yelp
We came here for dinner last Friday night. We were visiting in town and heard good things about this place. The house is beautiful! When you drive up the long driveway, it is very enchanting. Parking was a little cramped, but we found a spot in the lot behind the house. The hostess told us we would have a 20 minute wait for our group of 4. We said ok and hung out at a table in the TV area. 2 in our group put in their drink orders from the bar. We had only waited maybe 3 minutes when they said they could seat us. Our waiter was Nathan and he was fantastic. He kept our drinks filled and was very attentive to whatever we needed. Great guy! They serve complimentary chips and salsa, so we started with that. Me and one of our friends ordered the Osso Bucco which was featured as a special. My boyfriend got a Steak Quesadilla and our other dining companion got the Chimichurri Steak. Everything was delicious. They learned we were also celebrating a birthday so they brought out a massive piece of Chocolate Cake for us all to split. It was super yummy. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely go back.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
My wife and went here for a date night. Been very good in the past but tonight, food was horrible and service was terrible as well. I got a California Chimchanga that was still cold in the middle and my wife got Chicken burrito that was only luke warm and tasted bad. Our tea glasses stayed empty and to top it all off, one of the managers came walking through with a dog on a leash. We won't be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great service was good and drinks were cheap will definitely be back. The restaurant is a beautiful place

Yelp
An eclectic blend of South American dishes. The burritos are gigantesco! Excellent food presentation. A good bar

Yelp
My husband and I came here for the first time on date night this past weekend and I loved it. The food was amazing. I had the tequila lime chicken pasta. The salsa was also very good. We will be back!

Yelp
Words cannot describe how good this restaurant is!! Life changing experience, the food is so good. The Sea-bass is by far the best I have ever had, every single time I come here and order it.

Amy T.

Yelp
It's very eh Great views and beautiful place Waiter was great BUT the most important part is the food and it was not good at all especially for what you pay
