"Embark on a magical journey full of flavour across the Baix Ebre (Lower Ebro) region. Located in a stunning yet undiscovered area, this restaurant occupies charming former stables (nowadays redecorated in a more contemporary style) in the Spanish colonial-style Villa Retiro resort, which occupies buildings dating back to the 1890s.Here, chef Fran López continues to find inspiration in the natural bounty of the Ebro delta. On his menus (Clásico, Homenaje, and Más que un homenaje), the gastronomic focus is on the history of the area’s towns and villages and the civilisations that have inhabited them over the centuries (Ilercavones, Romans, Moors, Christians etc). This is showcased through traditional, creative and market-inspired cooking and finger-style food teeming with local flavour (the delta’s famous rice, different species of fish direct from the auction, the invasive blue crab etc) enhanced by personal touches, modern technique and contemporary detail. An added bonus is the explanation of each dish by the team in the dining room." - Michelin Inspector

"The word “modernist” means something different in the context of Catalonian architecture. This late-19th-century palace owes nothing to Bauhaus or other visually austere traditions; its fanciful spires and parapets feel almost postmodern to today’s eye." - Mitchell Friedman

It is an ESSENTIAL experience to eat or dine in its restaurant and stay overnight in any of its rooms, especially the Imperial Suite. Excellent management, with Domingo Bascos at the helm. Excellent Restaurant with Fernando as master of ceremonies. Unbeatable. A team with a well-deserved Michelin Star. Excellent Fátima the physio who restores back and limbs with her hands. The cult for details is reflected in the rooms and in the treatment that the visitor receives. As if this were not enough, the rate they apply is very reasonable. Highly highly recommended.

The hotel is beautiful, with amazing rooms, nice swimming pool and garden. Great breakfast, 10/10. Unfortunately, we encountered some problems and we're not provided proper solutions. The shower literally fell off and kicked badly my husband's head. We ended up with an injury and without shower for the rest of the stay. Also, there was a spider's nest just above our heads leaving lots of dirt on the pillows, the mini bar's fridge wasn't working and there were dogs barking all night long. It was rather a disappointing experience. I wish they would at least offer us some sort of compensation. Wouldn't rate is as 5 stars

Beautiful oasis within the Catalán countryside. Personnel was focused on creating an excellent experience, providing unexpected complimentary services outside of the usual as well. We also took the chance to enjoy the restaurant twice, and boy was that an experience, especially the homage to the delights of the area.

We just ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent, the place was exquisite and the service was great. They are fantastic with my toddler, one of the servers is knowledgeable how to handle toddler boredom and tantrums . They also allow us to explore the hotel after eating in the restaurant.

Loved this place. Unfortunately the kitchen is closed on Mondays and there’s not much going on around there to eat. But they’ve just built a set of garden suites and the main house is beautiful restored. It has a grotto.

The main building is old, but naturally restored to high standards which really looks great. There are additional rooms in newer, but good looking style next to the main one. Pool area is great and I am sure it is well served in peak periods. In low peak periods I would recommend to make a call function available at the pool desk, so you do not have to walk back to reception to ask for service. Generally the service is excellent and especially the waiter at the restaurant is top notch. The tasting menu was fantastic - especially if you like fish etc. Excellent wine list, but we decide to go for the wine menu composed for the tasting menu and was not disappointed - lots of local good stuff. We would love to come back, but normally we travel with our 2 dogs and unfortunately this place does not allow. A pity as we pass by several times a year. Great place, you will not be disappointed. By the way the breakfast was also fantastic!!

Truly a five star experience! Staying in a historic building was super charming and the staff were great. It was quiet and relaxing, the perfect getaway I could have hoped for. Pros: large rooms, tons of character, comfortable beds, big claw foot tub, friendly staff, early check-in, big pool, grounds were well kept, great breakfast, quiet, mostly adults. Cons: a little mold in bedroom (old, historic building so I didn’t mind), small shower, tiny bath towels, small bathmat, some of the bedding (like throw pillows and duvets) had stains on them, the pool needs updating and there were a ton of dead bugs on top, spa was closed, my massage was just ok and I was given a few minutes less than the 60 minutes, booked a specific massage and given a generic one. Overall I would go back with certain expectations and enjoy it even more ;)

We had a wonderful 3 days stay June, everything was perfect. The room, the breakfast, the swimming pool and to be especially highlighted the kindness and customer orientation of the whole staff. The restaurant was excellent, and the visit of the impressive wine cellar with the old Ficus tree is a must. Villa Retiro is also well located to visit the surroundings.
