Villa Tolomei Hotel & Resort (Florence, Tuscany) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This is why they make such a big deal about Florence. Just a few minutes from the crush of the crowds on the Ponte Vecchio, you just might find yourself in one of those gorgeous Tuscan villas everyone’s always going on about. The fuss, needless to say, is not misplaced — a hotel like Villa Tolomei is the sort of thing that just might restore your faith in the virtues of classic luxury hospitality." - Tablet Hotels

Beautiful location outside Florence with great views over the town. There is a narrow road to the hotel with one at a time car passing space. One needs to be a very good driver to manage all the hassle involved (reversing, driving very close to the walls, etc). Our room was large but in poor condition: the AC was making a terrible noise, the toilet's water tank kept jamming, there were cracks in the walls, the furniture was worn out, the walls were dirty, in bad need of being painted. There is zero sound proof, one would at all times hear what the neighbours are doing. Early morning there is a dirty laundry collection/ delivery and if your room is on that side of the hotel, you will jump up thinking the building is collapsing. The trolleys make a scary noise on the uneven pavement as they are dragged along. It is obvious this hotel used to be a gem at some point in time but now is just a shadow of what it used to be: the chandeliers have been replaced by tacky oversized paper looking lamps, the classic paintings have been replaced by some creepy, tastless modern art. The boss walks around with arrogance and desgust on his face. He doesn't bother to smile or greet the guests and most mornings he sits alone in the breakfast area with his latte at the biggest table available... The highlight of our experience were the staff: the ones working hard to keep the place together. Many thanks to the breakfast staff, to the cleaners and the caretakers around the pool, the reception and the green areas. They have done their utmost to make us feel comfortable and welcome. They've even offered a complimentary glass of juice to my niece when they noticed she felt sick after being in the swimming pool. Despite the so called miniature spa area, I would personally classify this hotel as a 3 star.

A taste of Tuscan beauty within a 12 minute cab ride to Florence This hotel is an absolute gem right outside of Florence. It's hard to believe a 12 minute cab ride can take you so far into a different world. It has the genuine feel of a Tuscan Villa, but is still only a manageable (downhill) walk from the sites and crowds of Firenze. The hotel is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, but with views of Florence from the restaurant and pool. There was peace, quiet and beauty, but with convenient proximity. The rooms were immaculately clean. The staff was beyond helpful, especially Daniel, who made sure our rooms were stocked with waters as we needed them. For reference, our family split between one of the apartments and one of the regular rooms. I can't say enough good things about the apartment. They made up the two bedrooms as one king and one double, with a very comfortable and well-apportioned kitchen and living area. The standard room was huge for a European room, with views and actual air conditioning The staff called cabs for us as we needed to go into town, and the cabs showed up within 5 minutes. One tip: If you're coming from Florence, walk across one of the bridges to the south side of the river before calling or haling a cab. It will save you 10 minutes and 10 Euros. In summary, If you're looking for a place to stay in Florence but want peace, quiet, and a taste of the Tuscan countryside, this is your place. It was certainly ours. Disliked · Unfortunately, the pool was closed during our stay, so we weren't able to swim after a hot day in Florence. It should be up and running by mid to late June 2025. The breakfast wasn't the best we had on our trip, but was included and still very fresh and generous.

I recently booked this hotel as it is advertised as a 5 star hotel on the outskirts of Florence, within walking distance to amenities. This hotel is NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A 5 STAR, and unless you want to walk for 30 minutes in the heat, you will be paying cab fare to Florence and back. |To make matters worse, the Air Conditioning in the entire complex (Rooms and Common Areas) is severely inadequate. Our room was warm upon check-in, and when we returned from dinner in town several hours later, it was still 90 degrees in our room. I called the front desk who in turn sent up maintenance. Maintenance checked our A/C Unit and stated that “It is working at maximum capacity and this is as good as it is going to get”.|They did bring up a fan, but it barely made a difference. The maintenance man did agree that it was hot, and that this was a problem in all of the rooms currently. I immediately looked for another hotel for the remaining 4 nights of our stay in Florence and once I secured a room I notified the front desk that we would be checking out in the morning due to the fact that they could not get our room comfortable.|The next morning, a different representative was at the front desk and offered us another room. It was a smaller room with the same A/C unit, so “it should work better”. Based on conversations with other guests and the maintenance person, I had no faith that we would be comfortable in the new room so we declined. |The next day, I was informed that they would not be issuing us a refund for the 4 nights we didn’t stay there, “because they offered us a new room and we declined”|This is not what I expect from a 5 star hotel that charges over 400 Euros per night.|RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THIS SCAM!!

NOT a 5 star hotel. Terrible service, charged different prices for the same spa service, AC doesn’t work in the rooms- they offered an ice bowl or a fan. Not enough staff- to take bags down for check out, front desk said “if it’s not too heavy I can help!” Prices are off the charts for this sort of service- management was never there. We would never stay here again. The staff doesn’t care to service or please the guests. It’s a shame bc the property is beautiful; not maintained and run down.

I nice hotel not too far from all attractions. 5* is a bit too much for this place but it’s definitely is hotel worth staying. Clean and spacious rooms. Friendly and attentive staff. The breakfast was nice with a good view over the city. The choices were quite basic and limited though.

We stayed here for a family member's wedding. There were around 90 of us and the resort was sold out. My only caution is our first room, room 18! If you are sensitive to smells, avoid this room! When we first arrived there was an overwhelming scent from the oil diffuser, I immediately removed it from the room. I think that was meant to cover up another unpleasant smell. I eventually had to move to my children's room because I couldn't sleep and was getting a headache. The AC was weak as well. By the fifth day it was clear something had either died or was impossible to contain any longer. Since much of the wedding party checked out, the staff immediately, without question, moved us to a room closer to our children. That room was wonderful and we were very appreciative. Gussan came to help us pack and drove us and our luggage to the new room. He was also constantly letting our children into their room, because they kept forgetting their key. We truly appreciated his hard work and excellent demeanor. Everything else was amazing. The views provided an excellent back drop for family photos and the wedding was beautiful. The pool was refreshing during the hot day. We will absolutely return.

Booked here for a day pass for a whopping €280 to use the pool facilities. Arrived and was ignored for over an hour by staff and asked 5 times for someone to come take our order (hotel was empty) Paying €280 for the facilities it started to rain and we was told we can’t use the facilities (which we had paid for) - we waited for a hour and the staff seemed clueless and we eventually left the venue as we was not waiting around doing nothing Contacted the hotel/company used to book the day pass and was ignored for a week with a blunt email back refusing a refund Avoid avoid avoid Response to venue reply: The venue have lied in their reply. We arrived at around 11 15am (so the bar was open) and then was proceeded to be ignored 5 times when asked for service Lunch was consumed while we was kicked out of the area we paid for. Let me ask you this - is €280 for a sandwich right? No - so stop lying Avoid avoid and then avoid again

Where do I even begin? Villa Tolomei is perfection. The location is ideal—just far enough from the hustle of central Florence that you feel the peaceful embrace of the Tuscan hills, but still close enough that you can walk or cab into the heart of the city in minutes. Want to shop, café-hop, visit the galleries, or cross the Ponte Vecchio with the crowds? It’s all right there. And then—you retreat. To your serene, stunning, incredibly warm villa. This place has all the charm of a high-end Tuscan estate at half the price. Yet nothing feels “budget.” The views are straight out of a dream—you open your window and it’s rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards (yes, they have their own winery and olive oil production on-site). The restaurant? Fabulous. The service? They truly cannot do enough for you. Every staff member we encountered was gracious, kind, and professional. Housekeeping? Five-star plus. Sparkling rooms, every detail just so. Everything about Villa Tolomei is LUX, LUX, LUX—but with that rare warmth that makes you feel like you’re coming home. Honestly, I’m hesitant to even write this review because I don’t want it to be overrun next time I book. And there will be a next time. And a next. And a next. If you know, you know. Villa Tolomei—grazie mille. ❤️🌿🍷
