Good selection of pastries for downtown area. Really enjoyed their Eclair and Napoleon!

Love these people. The service was friendly and efficient. They make you feel like family. But it's a good establishment so you want to know about the goods, right? As a former culinary student and professional baker I was very pleased to find this place. My background plus being nuero divergent means I have sensitive taste buds and the goods I got made me very happy. The pastries were appropriately flakey, the croissants had all the layers you want the muffins are moist and full of flavour. If you want high quality baked goods this is your go to. Enjoy!

I love their pizza and their baked goods are incredible of course. The staff is great and friendly. When’s nice out, I enjoy eating right outside where they have tables and chairs.

This Village Bakery location that I have been coming to for 10+ years just blew my mind this morning. When I asked for my normal order of two loaves of sliced levain bread, I was told that they no longer slice bread for customers. I was flabbergasted and told them that seemed like a a very poor customer service policy. Instead of an apology or a friendly response, I got a very hostile answer. I guess I’ll now be giving the local Upper Crust Bakery 100% of my business.

Good pizza and baked goods (4/5 green stars) The Village Bakery is one of the first places you’ll see when you get off an Amtrak train, so it’s a very convenient pit-stop before or after a trip. Nice outdoor seating with shade. The man at the counter and the chef/owner were both friendly and helpful. I had a slice of the veggie pizza ($3.50) and a mixed berry scone ($2.50). All the food looked appetizing – they had some good-looking eclairs and cream puffs but I tried to exercise some self-control ;) The selection of veggies on pizza was great: nicely caramelized onions, zucchini, peppers, etc. Not too heavy on sauce or cheese. Most of the cheese was feta, which really worked well with the veggies. The scone was really delicious: crumbly and light, dusted with icing sugar and animated with the flavor of blackberries and blueberries. I’m giving the Village Bakery 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • They use local fruit and veggies when possible and everything made in house. • For the pizza, they use olive oil for the crust (unlike some other pizza places). Olive oil is generally a sustainable product. • They source organic tomatoes for the pizza sauce when in season / affordable. • For the bakery side, their dairy comes from Crystal Creamery. From what I’ve read I’d place them somewhere in the middle – not nearly as good as an organic creamery like Strauss, not as bad as Dean Foods (Berkeley Farms). • Not much waste generation – the pizza is served on a paper plate and bakery items in a paper bags. Unbleached, recycled paper would be an improvement. I think the utensils and lids were conventional plastic. • Two out of the three pizzas on sale were vegetarian. Ever written a green star review? Please contact me if you have done so, or if you’d like to know more!

I usually don't begin my Sunday mornings with this level of decadence, but when I do, I visit the Village Bakery in Davis. Visit the Village Bakery for all your quiche, tiramisu, cream puff needs.

Google
Their baked goods are always so fresh and really tasty. Everything is made each day. Customer service has always been great. They have a complete selection of breads, muffins, and desserts. And they also have pizza. They have sourdough baguettes as well as French baguettes, and even baguettes that are soft baked.

Yelp
Taste and options and customer service was exceptional!! We had the pizza and the scone and they were fabulous!!

Yelp
Small bakery with lots of good eats. There are fresh pizzas by the whole pie or by the slice. Lots of bread to choose from and a beautiful case of pastries! Service is friendly and helpful. I had a little issue with one of my pastries and staff swapped it out no problem~ I got a butter croissant and a cream puff. The pastry style is rustic but charming. The butter croissant is flaky on the outside and decently soft of the inside. Not a lot of puff but buttery delicious nonetheless. It tastes a little oniony since it's right next to a savory pastry in the case, but I like onions so I don't mind~ The cream puff has a firm choux shell, which provide good structural integrity. A little hard for my personal preference but I'm a picky eater haha. The cream is vanillay and overall tasted good~ The places smells so good of pizza so I definitely wanna come back to try more. Btw there are seatings inside and outside. So you can enjoy some hot pizza on the spot!

Yelp
What an amazing find! Tasty pizza, by the slice, in Davis! For a reasonable price!! Plus, other baked goods and desserts! It all spells WINNER! The space is tiny and quaint, with just enough seating inside for 2 at a small round table in the corner. The kind where you and your date can sit, over piping hot slices, with your knees touching, staring into each other's eyes while the music plays...um...yeah, you get the picture. I didn't get the name of our server but she had a great attitude and was very helpful, answering questions about the business and the menu items. We ordered 2 slices of veggie and a cheese slice. The pizza crust is a little thicker than I was expecting, more like a focaccia than traditional pizza dough but it was really good! Especially, if you get a bit of extra sauce for dipping! The crust even held up well to being folded, the proper way to eat a slice, without flopping and dropping the toppings. The sauce is well balanced and the toppings are fresh. The peppers and veggies still had a bit of crunch to them after baking. Bonus points! Well done! Needless to say, I will definitely be visiting this place again!

Yelp
I've been told this is a long standing business in the community. it's food is delicious and obviously run with a very small crew. From pizza to desserts, it's located right near the Amtrak station in Davis, Ca on east 2 nd street and H st

Yelp
I am almost positive that I had a dream about a perfect pizza place like the Village Bakery. I was small enough to feel cozy, warm and welcoming, but it was in the middle of Davis nightlife. There was a variety of slices warming under an orange light. The minute we paid for our pizza, it was hot, ready and seconds away from being devoured. The pizza itself was wonderful. I had a host of fresh veggies and a lightly flavored sauce that didn't overpower the vegetables. The crust was sturdy enough to hold the cheese and fixings but chewy enough to pinch and pull and dip in the sauce. I regard an evening in Davis differently after enjoying pizza at this cute spot.

Yelp
This sweet little Davis bakery has been around for 25 years located on the corner right across from the Amtrak station.Excellent selection of pastries and fresh breads. Also, known for their pizza slices "to go". I always grab a loaf of bread & cookies along with the pizza. A few outside tables for dining. Prices are reasonable. Can be a line for pizza during lunch hour so come early!

Yelp
Order here a lot. One of my top favorite pizza places in Davis. - cheese pizza - veggie pizza Usually ready within 15 to 20 minutes. Slices are already ready to go. The crust is wonderful :)

Yelp
Great little bakery! Came here to get some pizza & dessert. The cashier was good natured & welcoming. We both ordered pepperoni slices & a tiramisu. The pizza was good & I loved the crust. I would love to try their other flavors next time. I didn't like the tiramisu much but I enjoyed the experience. Casual, cost effective, & pleasant. Will be back to try more of their baked items.

Yelp
Loved the convenient location across from the Amtrak station for Davis! Fabulous food at reasonable prices beautifully displayed for "quick" selection if you already know what you want to order. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza, Parmesan garlic bread and whole wheat bread. I was able to get the loaves sliced before I left. Parmesan garlic bread is simply amazing!!! Can't wait to return and try more items. Lovely shop and highly recommend!

Yelp
I saw many positive reviews on the pizza here at the Village Bakery in Davis and decided to try it. I had a slice of the vegetarian pizza. The crust was droopy and the sauce lacked real flavor. The price, however, was reasonable, just over 5.00 per piece. I thought Costco pizza was better. The bakery is small and lacks much selection. There is no place to sit indoors, but a large patio is just out front. I like to support local businesses, but I would not return here. Sorry, I forgot to include a photo this time.

Yelp
Food was very quick and delicious. Staff was very friendly and informative. That ambience was very chill and safe will come back again. The pizza is delicious and it taste fresh. I was so hungry that I never had a chance to take the full picture of the pizza. I had ordered the meal deal which was the veggie pizza and a Caesar salad with a soda on the side offer 10 bucks can't beat that.

Yelp
I order at least 6 THICK SLICED sourdough loaves about every 3 weeks to share with my family and friends. Every one loves this bread. The guys that takes my order earlier in the day is always AMAZING, the other ones late in the evening SUCK! Stop asking for my credit card over the phone, I'm not giving it to you! I ALWAYS pick up and pay for my loaves at the store. Other than that, I really love the freshness of there sourdough loaves and baguettes. They are also at the Davis farmers market on Saturdays. They don't have thick sliced, you have to pre-order it at least 24hrs ahead of time. It's just a small shop, nothing special, but they do have pastries and pizza before you jump on the amtrak behind the building.

Yelp
*** Vegetarian Review *** Village Bakery is a true mainstay in Davis, California, and it's no wonder why. This old school establishment has been serving the community for over 25 years, making it a cherished local gem. Whether you're craving a delicious slice of pizza or seeking the perfect artisan bread to start your day, Village Bakery has got you covered. Their freshly baked breads are a treat for early risers and a testament to their commitment to quality. Would I Come Back? Heck yeah. This is one of places I bring visitors to for a slice of Davis. Plenty of vegetarian options. Comparisons: Their pizzas are cooked in a brick oven so if you're a fan of Upper Crust Bakery on their Wednesday pizza nights, you'll really enjoy Village. Both are bakeries first so their pizza crusts are next level. For a more National comparison, Blaze pizza is close, but again, it's the crust. Tips for First Timers: 1. Free street parking 2. Call in advance or use the App. They can get busy so use your time wisely. 3. Whole pizzas and slices are available after 11am. 4. Daily meal deal ... 1 slice, 1 salad, and 1 soda. 5. Scone of the day. See my photos for the menu. 6. 4 inside chairs. 2 outside tables. And if you happen to be in the mood for something sweet instead, Village Bakery has got you covered there too. Their menu boasts a big selection of housemade desserts that will satisfy any sweet tooth. Indulge in their Napoleons, fluffy cream puffs, decadent eclairs, delectable fruit tarts, or the classic Italian favorite, tiramisu. With such a variety of mouthwatering treats, you'll surely find the perfect ending to your meal. With all the tempting choices available, it's the pizzas at Village Bakery that truly steal the show and make it a must-visit spot. Their diverse menu caters to all palates, including a fantastic range of vegetarian options like the delightful Roasted Bell Pepper, Eggplant, Greek, Artichoke, and Spinach pizzas. And for the meat lovers in your life, they make it easy ... just order the Meat Lovers pizza. Custom Vegetarian Pizza ($27.50, Grade A) - It all starts with their generous 16" cheese pizza, which is already a satisfying choice at $23. But the customization options take it to the next level. For just an additional $1 each, you can enhance your pizza with toppings like mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach. And if you're feeling adventurous, I highly recommend adding the roasted onions for an extra $1.50. The portion is large enough for three or two particularly hungry individuals. The perfectly melted cheese and melt-in-your-mouth crust make every bite a treat. I personally love enjoying the crusts with pads of butter. Village Bakery strikes a fantastic balance with their toppings, never overloaded or under-loaded, which ensures even cooking and a harmonious bite every time. Desserts: Don't forget to treat yourself to one of Village Bakery's tempting dessert options before leaving. My personal favorite is the indulgent chocolate eclair -- it doesn't leave that film in your mouth after you eat it. And their sticky bun is also a must. Everything is all made in-house and for those that don't like overly sweet desserts, this is your spot. For comparison, California State Fair goers are aware of the famous cinnamon roll (aka sticky bun) in the exhibit hall. I look forward to that particular fair food every year. Eating this sticky bun more than satisfies that yearly craving. Bottom Line: Village Bakery in Davis, California, is a cherished mainstay that has been serving the community for over 25 years. Their friendly service, always hot pizzas, and delicious housemade desserts make it a must-visit spot. Whether you're craving a slice or a whole pie, Village Bakery has earned its enduring reputation for good reason.

Yelp
I bought a presliced loaf of Multigrain from the farmers market for $5. About the same price as a Trader Joe's loaf and tastes addictingly fresh; I ate it up within a few days. Also good to support a local business.

Yelp
TRY THE PIZZA HERE IF YOU LOVE A NICE BREADY CRUST!! I came here with a friend for coffee & pastries and ended up falling in love with their pizzas. Love that they sell by the slice in addition to the whole pizza. The pastries & coffee were nice, but the tasty pizza is what keeps me coming back!

Yelp
Best rosemary rolls over Thanksgiving!! Your rolls made the day even happier -- yummy savory and just perfect !!

Yelp
I used to work here back in the early 2000s. They did it all, from winnowing the grain on the thin matted floor to tempering and proofing. The food is great.

Yelp
Great pizza, great eclairs, and friendly staff. This seemingly small hole-in-the-wall bakery is a local gem.

Yelp
Best Halal pizzas!!! Tell them you want halal pepperoni when ordering. They have good walk in deals as well. Garlic bread is pretty decent.

Yelp
Such a cute little shop that sells pastries, pizza, bread, and breakfast items. They've been around since around 2003 - how have I never visited??? It's a short walk from the heart of Downtown Davis, next to the railroad tracks. I tried the quiche and it was delicious. Crust was nice and flaky and the filling was smooth and eggy. Good amount of cheese too. Perfect portion size for a small breakfast. Next time I go, I either want to try a slice of pizza or that chocolate lava cake... Anyway, they do have fees for certain purchases. I think it's something like $0.50 for credit card purchases under $10 and some other fee for orders above $100, but it's pretty transparent - they have signs right at the front. Super friendly service too!

Sally H.

Yelp
Delicious pizza makes up for everything being take out. Pastries looked great, something worth trying next time I'm in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Yelp
the eclair was bomb and the veggie pizza is so good both were $5.50 and the pizza was fresh so I got lucky on that

Yelp
The best bread and pizza in Davis. Funky little spot, near Amtrak, and they make it work. For the pizza, it's available as whole pies, or by the slice. Bread makes a German happy with a perfect crust. Also, Aziz rocks!
google avatar

Yelp
I've tried several items at Village Bakery but none have survived long enough for me to take a picture. I recommend their ham and cheese croissants, or any other croissant for that matter. Their ham and cheese is my go-to as it's filling and delicious. They sell out quick of some items so I try to get there early whenever I'm in town. There's a couple 2 top tables but this really isn't a place to sit down and eat. It's more of a grab and go to a local coffee shop. Although my croissant is usually gone by the time I reach Temple Coffee. That's this critics review, until next time, I'll be eating.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Best Pizza in Sacramento area by far. Traditional NY style. A little light on sauce, but on my second trip (only a week apart and I normally don't eat carbs) I got extra sauce and it was perfect. It takes no longer than 20 minutes. It's the best kept secret in pizza. If they had a dining room, it'd probably be packed.

Yelp
Was passing by when I thought I'd stop at this place since I was a little hungry and in need for a bakery treat I stopped in this little gem where I was greeted with pure happiness from Evelyn. She was super friendly and told me that she take my order when I was ready I had informed her that I had never been here before, so she told me no worries and to let me know if I had any questions and when I was ready, I like that this place has pizza some sweet desserts and they also bake bread on the daily. They close at 5 PM so I know she been there all day and she had great customer service to be at the end of her shift. I can always appreciate good customer service, and as we know, it's so easy to write a bad review, then writing a good one! She was so friendly and I will definitely be returning I'm writing this as I stuff my face with pizza ! Nom nom nom :) Thanks girl!

Kaitlin C.

Yelp
Grew up in Davis. I refuse to come home without at least one trip to Village Bakery. Best veggie pizza in the world.

Maria H.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in Davis! They do pizza by the slice and whole pies, check them out. Their fresh bread is good too.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Sadly no seating outdoors or inside, since it's such a small place. The whipped cream puff was the best pick for us, with a light pastry and lightly sweetened whipped cream that was piled on top. If you get these, prepare to get a bit messy since it's hard to get a clean bite haha. The croissant and cinnamon roll were average in my opinion. Weren't warm and the croissant was not as crispy as I would hope for the morning. The cinnamon roll was made out of puff pastry, so didn't have the same doughy-ness that I would usually expect from a cinnamon roll, but also didn't have the flakey texture of a puff pastry. Wouldn't get these again, but would return to try their other pastries.

Yelp
This place is so da*n maddening! Here are three examples of recent visits: 1. Walk in about 8:00. No one there. I wander into the back and see an employee(?) eating what appeared to be salad out of a to go container. "Do you have any scones?" Sorry, haven't started making them yet. Try back this afternoon. 2. Hi, do you have scones? Yes we do? Great, I'll take 4. Sorry, we are all out. But you said you had them. Yes we do, but we are out. 3. 8:45 AM. Hi, I'll take a scone. Sorry just putting them in the oven should be ready in an hour or so. And these are three separate employees. (BTW) see my other review about we open at 8...unless we don't. Scones are terrific, and as they will tell you, " Yes, we have scones! But not now"
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cute little hole in the wall place that everyone needs to know about! It's a tiny little place right near the train station. I believe it is owned by the same people who own Village Pizza a few blocks down, but it is very different. This is more of a bakery/takeout place. In the morning they carry homemade pastries and coffee which are excellent! I ate mine before I could photograph it. They also make pizza which they sell by the slice. It's good, thin crust New York style pizza. The price is also great! It's a very good place to get a high-quality cheap bite! Outdoor seating too!! They also have house baked bread quick is the mainstay off they're business.

Yelp
Best pizza in town ! by the slice, no place to sit really but coming from Brooklyn NY this Pizza is closest to a NY slice you can find in Davis

Sarah C.

Yelp
Incredible bread; yummy pizza; tasty breakfast bites. This unassuming shop did not disappoint. We went twice to make sure we picked up more and froze the items when we got home.

Yelp
I decided to finally try this place after I came across it looking for the best pizza places in Davis. I got two slices and dug in. Overall, they were flavorful and I especially liked the veggie slice. However, they were a bit stale and didn't really stand out significantly from any pizza I've had in the past. That being said, they were pretty filling and I can see myself going back in the future.
google avatar

Breana L.

Yelp
Love village bakery! I always go back when I'm in Davis. The secret that I almost don't want to share because I don't want them to sell out more than they already do is their sticky buns. Best. Sticky Buns. Ever. I know a lot of you probably won't believe me but these are unbelievably good and so addicting. Their pizza is also great as well as their garlic Parmesan loaf!

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Look, I've never been to NY, so I can't speak on their pizza. I also haven't tried that many pizzas, as I tend to stick with what I like. But this is the best pizza that I've ever had. They got the dough recipe figured out. It's simple, gets the job done. Thin and crispy on the outside, doughy on the inside. Not too doughy to the point where I'm eating bread. Just good pizza. Whenever I'm headed to Tahoe from the bay, I make a pit stop here to grab a slice or two. I'm always skeptical that nostalgia skews my view in a favorable light, but I just had them again this past weekend and they still hold up. Don't ever change, Village Bakery. Side note, I find grabbing slices at this location to be better than their sit down spot. I think the pizza gets a little more time in the oven here.

Yelp
I was meandering through downtown Davis on New Year's Day. For folks that don't know much about Davis, it's a quaint college town. The downtown has a village feel vs mini metropolitan. Anyway, on New Year's day while the majority of businesses were closed. Village bakery was open for business. Yeah! It is right next to the train depot. What sets this bakery apart from most other bakeries is that they sell pizzas as well. And they are tasty!! Besides whole pizza pies... they sell slices! Pizza by the slice! Huge slices! The pizzas are in the glass counter and they warm them up in the oven. I ordered the veggie slice. $4.10. It had caramelized red onions, yellow and red bell peppers, and mushrooms topped with feta cheese crumbles. Oh my gosh... it was fabulous! Those caramelized onions gave the pizza a nice savory sweetness. The middle of the crust was medium thickness and had a nice fluffy innards. The edge of the crust had a crunch snap when you bite into. They have two other slice choices. Cheese $3.30. Pepperoni $3.85. Check out my pic of their menu board... they got tons of while pizza combinations... choices choices... from basic to unique flavor combos. Variety. And of course they sell delicious fresh bread, lots of different kinds. Plus muffins, scones, danishes, croissants, sticky buns, turnovers, cream puffs, cupcakes, eclairs, and cookies. They have scones of the day with rotating flavors. $3. The cookies are moist and dense. Yum! The teeny tiny shop has a couple of bistro tables inside, but it's cramped. The main seating is outside. No frills aluminum patio tables and chairs and no fancy patio heaters out on the patio. It's a grab n go type of place. This place is not fancy-schmancy. No instagram worthy design or decor. No comfort seating. The baked goods are not staged. Very basic bare bones place. Folks come here for the outstanding baked goods, not to take selfies. Their business longevity and acclaim is due to the basic recipe of quality, great tasting, and priced right baked goods. #villagebakerydavis #villagebakerypizzabytheslice

Yelp
This tiny hole in the wall never disappoints! The pizzas are always tasty and ingredients are fresh! Their pastries are delicious, I recommend the cream puffs. Whenever I'm in the area visiting family, I stop by this place for pizza and pastries. I recommend this place!

Yelp
one of my favorite pizza spots in Davis! Village bakery has been here for a while and i've been coming here since a child (i had my 12th birthday party dinner here!) The pizzas always hit the spot and if you order by the slice (~$5 now for a slice of veggie pizza) it's really filing and full of toppings! There is convenient parking in front by the street and there are outdoor tables next to the shop. I would definitely say it's worth stopping by and trying!

DistasteForMediocreChefs _.

Yelp
The pizza is same level of quality and care as fast food joint. Basically is all about profit margin based on low price point. Garbage. The bread is as mediocre.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Pizza is good! Pastries are expensive and subpar. Paid almost $12 for 2 pastries and threw them both away without finishing them. The calories were not worth eating for such subpar pastries. I got the eclair and chocolate lava cake.
google avatar

Kristina J.

Yelp
Love Village Bakery! I have been coming here since I was young and it's always delicious. We used to come for lunch in HS for their pizza and a soda deal which I'm not sure what it is now but was always reasonable. The veggie pizza is by far my favorite. Plus their desserts and breads are great too. They have a garlic loaf that is super flavorful and great for anything but we use it with fondue.
google avatar

Bao N.

Yelp
I got an apple scone, and in the words of Gordan Ramsey, ITS ******* BURNT! I guess it's easy to miss, because I did not notice until I bit into it. What a shame. The veggie pizza was really good though. You win some, you lose some.
google avatar

Yelp
Best pizza place in Davis hands down! I've ordered takeout from them about 5 times now and the quality is always spot on. The cheese to sauce to toppings ratio is perfect and the crust is to die for. You get a bit of char from the flames and it just adds so much flavor. My favorite pizzas from here are margarita, chicken, and surprisingly veggie. The veggie pizza here is the best I've had anywhere! Would highly recommend trying it. Desserts are also amazing, I love the eclairs and tiramisu(although tiramisu has a lot of coffee in it, not good for kids)
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza slices hot fast and a good price too love the veggie slice lots of bakery items to choose from as well

Yelp
The service was quick and pleasant. The pizzas are great! We tried the sausage and highly recommend it!

Yelp
My wife is from New York and very picky about pizza...she loves Village Bakery and very few other places!

Joan R.

Yelp
Went in for a slice or 2 which we ate in the car and promptly went back for a whole pie! S-o-o-o good from the crust to the sauce to the cheese. The desserts are to die for and the artisan breads are top-notch. This is our #1choice over its competition.

Yelp
I've heard this is the best pizza in Davis. After trying the MV pizza, one could argue they are right. Nice young man answering the phone and taking orders. Pickup easy. Will come again
