Look no further if you want great service, amazing taste and beautiful cakes!! I ordered a cake for a birthday as I live about six hours away and let me tell you…they did not disappoint! The cake was vanilla with chocolate icing. They put a thin layer of chocolate on the inside as well. The cake was moist and it was decorated beautifully! Everyone loved it and even asked for seconds the next day. I would highly recommend Village Bakery! Thank you again for helping me and understanding the assignment!!

Google
I’ve always purchased anniversary cakes from this bakery and they have always done a phenomenal job with the presentation and the taste of the cake. I ordered my wedding cake from them and the process from ordering, confirming details, making payments and having it delivered to the venue was stress free. The cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious! We got many compliments on the taste and the looks of the cake. Thank you so much to the girls that helped (Emily & Liza)!!!

Google
Besides going by there for an occasional treat of their fabulous cinnamon rolls, cheese danishes, or my favorite, blueberry danishes, we get a birthday cake there every year. Every year it is fabulous. I cannot recommend this bakery enough.

Went for the first time today, and the staff were so warm and welcoming! The owner spoke with me and shared the bakery's history. She was very personable and patient, answering all my questions about various goodies they served, and she made me aware of any allergens in the baked goods. AMAZING cookies, brownies - the icing on their small cakes is divine. I was overwhelmed by their kindness and sweet(haha!) personality and atmosphere; Definitely recommend and will be returning!

Google
These ladies went above and beyond to make sure the cake we ordered for our daughter’s baby shower was perfect. They worked with us on design and delivered our cake on time. Not only did it look beautiful, but it was moist and delicious. Thank you so very much for all of your help making our celebration just perfect!

Google
We enjoy all baked goods from Village Bakery and we order from them for all special occasions. I had placed a review 3/5 stars prior to this. I was told I couldn’t be refunded for a cake order placed 6 days prior and could only receive store credit. I left it alone, didn’t need the extra cake but would take it if it couldn’t be refunded. Courtney-gave me a call the very next morning and made it right! I couldn’t believe they took my review into consideration and made it a teaching moment. You can have a refund if the cake has not been made or prepared for. If the cake has been made you are not entitled for a refund as a bakers time and store resources have been made to prepare specifically for you. Thank you so much!

Google
People are friendly. Usually plenty of parking out front. Wide selection of cookies. Usually has pies sitting on top of the cabinet. Cakes and special order cakes can be ordered. Cookies and samples we had were basic for cookies. Nothing really special. This is a take and go spot. Has been in Tyler for a very long time.

Google
My babyshower cake was SO beautiful, I loved it so much! Although, I didn’t even get to try the vanilla side, because of greed at my shower. I definitely would like to order my elopement cake here at village bakery. the chocolate side was so moist and soft and yummy.. OMG I just know that the vanilla side would have been EVEN BETTER! I may need to order a personal cake just for me and dad to try. Dad didn't even get a slice of cake which is sad. We definitely had enough cake for everybody (I just think it was that good) and of course people took some to-go without our consent. Also we had come into town from Arkansas, and didn’t have any to take back with us. This cake feeds up to 90 people, it was about 50-65 people there, PLENTY OF CAKE! When my mom placed the order she told me to call back and give them details on how I wanted it decorated.. the pictures match what I wanted, the bakers did an amazing job, it looked exactly how I visioned it. Simple quick process, I told them I wasn’t “boujie” just wanted it to taste good and look good, and they NAILED IT!! ✨🎉🎉 Definitely WILL be recommending this company..

Yelp
This wedding cake came out perfect and the customer service was amazing they treated us amazing we definitely appreciate your service and we appreciate you doing a wonderful job on our son and daughter in-law wedding cake everyone loved it . I personally would want a lighter buttercream cake but it was very good

Yelp
Unique quaint spot in Tyler, TX sort of hidden away in a little strip of businesses. Its very difficult to walk in and not want one of everything in there! Everything looks so so good. Service was very patient w/the very slow customers that couldn't make up their minds in front of us or just kept wanting to meet the owner like they were Queens and everyone should stop working to come out to greet them. The boss seemed very gracious, so kudos to them for their patience. We picked out a basket full of goodies and got to try a few, but most of the family devoured all of them before we could try everything. haha Would def stop back by my next time through Tyler.

Yelp
The cookies and danishes and cupcakes were so so good!!!! Staff was nice and it was honey

Yelp
Very small place. Long line. But everything we ordered was great. Soft and fresh. Would go here again next time we pass through.

Teresa P.

Yelp
I was charged for a cake that was not made right Denise the owner lied to me said it had strawberry filling in between the layers she lied don't get a cake and pay for something I didn't get she has her employee ride just like her she not a business person the colors were wrong on cake the mickey and mini was wrong I will never order a cake from her other customer had problems with her

AM W.

Yelp
Bakery food was good overall. Ladies in the store were unfriendly. I like a place that has good service and are welcoming as much as the food. Won't be back.

Yelp
Bought a delicious lemon layer cake for my daughter's birthday!! Everyone loved it, adults and children alike!!
google avatar

Yelp
Baked goods are ok. Not great, ok. Staff is as rude as rude could be. And it comes from the top. Don't order anything here.
google avatar

Wendy J.

Yelp
I've always had a great experience here! Whether I'm stopping with the kids to let them all pick out a treat (everything we have tried is amazing!) or picking out a birthday cake for my husband's 50th - they have what you need. I've ordered ahead and gone in day of and just picked from what was available- pic is from my daughter's impromptu 16th hangout with friends - their chocolate cakes are amazing and they sweetly very quickly added a little writing! We definitely enjoyed this amazing moist chocolate cake. Thank you Village Bakery!
google avatar

Yelp
Not a huge place, but the cream cheese danishes were legit! No pre-frozen junk at this joint. I know the baker and it is ALL real stuff, through and through!

Yelp
Ever tried to find a bakery in a town you are not familiar with and want to impress the people you are having dinner with in a couple of hours? The challenge was on! Yelp kind of helped and was 0 for 2 at first. It was looking grim. Third time WAS a charm and oh how amazingly charming the third stop was! This is a relatively old and well known to the local population bakery! It isn't cheap and the product is worth every penny paid! The staff is friendly, but were a tad standoffish to us foreigners to Tyler. After all, us folks from Dallas can be a wee bit off-putting. However, the staff learned of our challenge to find the perfect dessert and pointed us to the chiller display case where one of the most beautiful German Chocolate cakes these cake fattened eyes have ever seen! (Some quick history... German Chocolate Cake is not German but was created using chocolate created by Samuel German for Baker's Chocolate in 1852. This chocolate was Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate. However the coconut and pecan iced chocolate cake using Baker's chocolate first appeared in a recipe in the Dallas Morning News in 1957 by Mrs George Clay of East Dallas. The rest is myth and history :) ) There are also many wonderful baked items such as breads, cookies and cupcakes that had me gaining weight by just breathing. As for this cake, it wowed the hosts and their family for days! Way to go Village Bakery and Yelp!!

Yelp
The cakes were ok but, like others have said, the staff is RUDE AF and they are SO DISORGANIZED! I was shopping for my Wedding Cake and basically they couldn't give a crap what you're shopping for and how important it is or how much money you're about to drop. We were driving from Dallas for an appointment that we had made WITH THE OWNER on the phone and the girls in the shop said our appointment was an hour earlier than it actually was and that they wouldn't be able to serve us for our "cake tasting" and the only option was for us to take a "to-go" tasting tray. Since we had already paid for it and were already on our way down there we ended up going to get it and there was 2 girls working there - so not sure why one of them couldn't do our tasting and the other one do the front of house duties. Anyway, they were SUPER SNOTTY & condescending. We had made an appointment a couple weeks before through responding to one of their emails that asked us when we would like to come in. Then when they never replied back so we called and they said they are just now getting that email and that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us because they were just now checking that email even though they were the ones who emailed us and then didn't check the email for several days. She then said the lady was all booked up with cake tastings even though we had an appointment more than a week before - their phone was apparently down for a couple of weeks, but yet they aren't checking their emails? I just wouldn't trust these people to handle something as important as a wedding or a birthday - and their lack of professionalism was really NOT the icing on the cake. I would not give these people my business just due to how rude and belittling they were. The cakes were OK but nothing to write home about. **Just edited this to 1 star since the owner just commented that "unfortunately they matched my energy" basically saying I was rude when in fact I DEFINITELY WAS NOT!!! We gave them MULTIPLE chances for them to make it right and they kept COMPLETELY dropping the ball in scheduling by not answering the emails THAT WE RESPONDED TO FOR MAKING AN APPOINTMENT! They are the ones who are supposed to be PROFESSIONAL! The owner, front of house staff and EVERYONE we came in contact with were SUPER RUDE & condescending- AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!! Bad vibes & basic cakes - I'm SOOO GLAD they were SOOOO HORRIBLE because we ended up finding an AMAZINGGGG and SUPER SWEET & TALENTED cake lady who I CANNOT recommend enough!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
The chocolate cream cheese cake is my must-have bday cake every year. The new owners are much friendlier than the previous owners and I love that they carry Madres pimento cheese!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Strike 3: Owner and Manager are argumentative when orders are incorrect. When a loyal 40+ year customer takes the time to explain their issue with an order, you work with the customer to keep them coming back. Their prices either need to be substantially cheaper to math their service, or return to the same quality standards of the former owner and management. Strike 2: a week ahead of time, we ordered a carrot cake. Both the new owner and manager made the wrong cake. We pointed that a carrot cake has cream cheese icing, not butter cream icing. They argued the point. Strike 1: ordered and Italian cream cake (Italian cream filing) but was given a hummingbird cake (pineapple filling). Once again they argued. Can anyone recommend another high end bakery please?

Yelp
WOW. This bakery does an amazing job on cakes. They made my wedding cake and I'm still in awe. The best service and the quality of the cake is amazing. Taste is 10/10. Thank you village bakery.

Yelp
We LOVE Village Bakery!! High quality customer service and incredibly tasty treats!! We especially love their gingerbread, which they have year around!

Yelp
Been coming to the Village Bakery since I was 5 years old. So glad it hasnt changed much when I come home for a visit! So glad to see they allow credit cards now! Still a cute little shop, almost time capsule really. It was nice for my kiddo to get a 'free sample' of their broken cookies. We LOVE the black and white cake! You'll never find anything else like it anywhere (and Ive lived in 5 states)! Worth every penny! Excellent customer service always!

MaryAnn T.

Yelp
Cute bakery with delicious goodies and wonderful staff. Cookies and pastries are so yummy. Always stop in here before going back to Dallas / they're open to 6pm!

Yelp
My sister and I were in town from Los Angeles for our mother's birthday and needed a cake. We stopped in around noon and found a variety of cakes to choose from. The staff member who helped us was friendly and very helpful. We picked the German Chocolate. HOO BOY was it DELICIOUS! It was a hit with the whole family. The little street it's on is adorable. We came back the next day to check out a couple of shops and returned to the bakery to pick up some danishes for brunch. No lie, the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. There is a reason Village Bakery has been around since 1948 - everything is AMAZING!

Cindy D. S.

Yelp
Beautiful work on my daughter's wedding cake last week. It was delicious, too! She keeps talking about it! I'm thankful that she and the guests were so pleased.

Beth W.

Yelp
Not only did they manage to bring my Steampunk Dream Cake to life but she also delivered it all the way out in Jacksonville in the rain to my event! And it was delicious down to the yummy center, what ever that chocolate delicacy was!!! Would definitely recommend & will use them as well as visit their bakery in Tyler again!

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Can't get enough of their gingerbread cookies and chocolate valentines cupcakes-the chocolate icing is just so perfect-sweet deep chocolate with sprinkles!
google avatar

Lily D.

Yelp
My mother used to take me here when I was a little girl and now I take my daughter here! Everything is delicious. This morning we got a couple danishes and a cinnamon roll and all were huge and very fresh. Cinnamon roll was still warm from the oven! The people that work here are also so sweet. There is nowhere like Village Bakery. It's just the best!

Yelp
I just moved to Tyler and am sooooo happy (my pants aren't as happy) to have found this bakery. Truly the best baked good I've ever had. This is a must stop if you are in Tyler!!

Yelp
Went in 4 weeks ago to order a birthday cake for my daughter. Was told to text this number and she would respond with a price and to exact details of the cake I was needing. Mind you this is a regular 10 inch cake with a name and a few decorations. Weeks went by, so I called back. Got the number of the lady to text, texted her. Showed her exactly what I needed on April 23rd. Two days went by I texted her back on April 25th. She respond what do you need on April 26th. I repeated myself again. Still have not heard any word back to this day. Good thing I prepared and didnt need a cake within 4 weeks or I'd still be waiting on this sorry lady. Will never step foot in there again. Rude and sorry people inside this place.

Aimee L.

Yelp
Beautiful custom made birthday cakes. The chocolate cake is the best I ever had! So moist and rich. The bakery has designed 2 other birthday cakes over the past 6 years for me and they always exceed my expectations!

Texas P.

Yelp
The Village Bakery is wonderful. I highly recommend the lemon cake. The cookies and other treats are so tasty. Delicious!

Yelp
They now take credit cards!! This is our favorite place in Tyler for some yummy baked goods and we're so happy we don't have to stop by the ATM beforehand anymore! The lady who works in the front is very nice and helpful :)

Joan A.

Yelp
Go to this place for one important reason. The cakes, pies, cookies and Pastries taste like your grandmother made them. Yes, their business model is very old-fashioned--like only excepting cash or checks and so on. Their workers are better at baking cookies than customer service. However, I can except a few quirky old-fashioned things for the best buttercream icing I've ever tasted. Their Italian cream cake is out of this world. My son loves their Gingerbread men cookies. I highly recommend letting them decorate with just regular butter cream icing on specialty cakes. If you want something particular printed, then they have to use the same machine as everyone else. If you want to use a credit card, debit card, or your Apple wallet there are many other bakeries in town for you. In my view, Village is worth going by the ATM to get cash. I can accept a few out of date business practices if it means their baked good stay old fashioned and excellent. Just try taking one of their cakes to a Tyler event. When your guests see the box with a Village sticker they will say "Village Bakery--what a wonderful treat."

Yelp
I visited the Village Bakery for the first time because Chez Bazan is closed and that was my go-to place. I walked in and the lady appeared bothered that I was there. I asked her what pies she had and she just pointed and said, "this is all we have." She didn't even bother telling me what kind of pies they were. I pointed to one and asked her if it was an apple pie and she responded with, "I think so." When she rang me up, I pulled out my card and that's when she actually smiled and then said, "we only take cash". I told her I didn't have cash and then I just walked out. She didn't even say "have a good day." I ended up going to Fresh for the pies and the ladies there were happy to help me and even asked what the occasion was. Don't bother visiting the village bakery. They don't care about you or your service if you're a new customer.
google avatar

Dora S.

Yelp
The greatest there is!! Always a case full of lots of tempting goodies!! Can't get enough of their fresh baked delicious desserts. My go to, guaranteed goodness, bakery!
google avatar

Lacey H.

Yelp
Regardless of who takes the order, new or not, they should know the store only takes cash or check and relay that to customers. How would a first time customer even know that they don't accept card? What business doesn't accept card in 2019?!? Not only were we not compensated for our troubles with having to go on the opposite side of town to withdraw cash, but when we actually got our order, it was WRONG. The owner's excuse - oh the lady that took your order is new... I'm sorry, but that is no excuse and your customer service sucks, especially as the owner for not even making it right.

Brooke S.

Yelp
While this old town Bakery might not appeal to those who prefer to pay via credit card, the rest of us will suffer paying by cash or check to ensure that we get a bite of the world's BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE!! Makes my mouth water writing this. I am not exagerating! It is moist and rich and creamy unlike any chocolate cake I have ever had. Add their Christmas Gingerbread boys and girls and you have a five star rating! Their owner, Betty, also made our wedding and grooms cake and they were both beautiful and delicious. Do yourself a favor: go to the atm, get out cash, and buy the Chocolate fudge cake. You won't be disappointed.

Heather B.

Yelp
I went to the Village Bakery today, and my daughter and I loved the large selection of delicious treats they had there! I'm pretty picky about chocolate cake, so I was afraid to get theirs, but I thought it'd be a good test of their bakery, so I did. I got the kind that was completely covered with frosting. It was completely delicious and moist--just the way I like it! I also bought a pumpkin shaped sugar cookie, a chocolate chip cookie without nuts, and a snickerdoodle for my family. The service was great, too! Be aware--they only take cash or checks.

Yelp
Village Bakery is a staple here in Tyler. They are my go to place for birthday cakes. They have delicious banana nut bread. I like how it still has the original charm of an older store when you walk in with the cookies on display. They do have a website that displays their cakes and you can even order from it. Be prepared they only accept cash or check. Which may be old fashioned in today's world, but here in Tyler they aren't the only ones. How about the car wash on Beckham most people like! Don't you write checks to the lady that does your hair? If you don't why not? So they don't have to pay extra fees. Sorry but there were a lot of people on here complaining about the debit cards. I have never had a problem ordering a cake even same day. They usually have some already ready in their display cooler. Their cakes are always delicious. Try them if you haven't you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I called and placed an order for an Italian Crème Cake on Wednesday morning for pickup on Saturday. The cake was for my mom's 75 birthday. I ordered the cake without pineapple as my sister is allergic to pineapple - and Italian Crème cakes don't normally come with pineapple filling. Hummingbird cakes - yes; Italian Creme cakes, no. Beth from the bakery called me at 1:22 on Friday to tell me that all of the cakes are pre-set up and already had pineapple. I explained that I couldn't have the cake with pineapple and that's why I called ahead to order the custom cake. She basically said that I would have to take the cake that way because that's the way they make them. Then she said that she would have the owner call me. The owner called - was extremely rude - and explained that they ... BAKE ALL THEIR CAKES ON TUESDAY REGARDLESS OF WHAT DAY YOU ARE PICKING IT UP!!! O_O She said because they only bake cakes on Tuesdays, that all the Italian Creme cakes were already set up with pineapple. This means I would have received a four-day old cake when I picked it up on Saturday. Need a cake on Monday? It's a SIX-DAY OLD CAKE. That isn't fresh in anyone's book. What a shame. I thought I had found a delightful little bakery in my new town. But customer service apparently isn't the owner's strong suit. She followed up her telephone rudeness by responding to my Facebook review with a false accusation that I shouted at her on the phone. I'm sure she will do the same here. Thankfully, another bakery is coming through for my mom for her birthday.

Yelp
excellent...this is so good ...try the gingerbread Man and girl...they r my favs...everyweek...we go back...fresh 2..cant wait to go back!

Yelp
I have a very strong attachment to this place. My grandmother bought mini cakes and cookies from village bakery every month for us when my brother and I went to visit her as a child. My parents wedding cake was from This bakery, and My mother worked here out of high school, up until she was married and joked that the reason I love sweets so much is because I've been eating them from here since before I was born. I know it's a matter of time before a small business like this goes out, especially in Tyler where people are more willing to buy a Walmart cake, but I hope it stays around forever.

Travis S.

Yelp
I have been frequenting this bakery since I was a child, so over 40 years! This is where the grandmothers come, when they don't have time to bake, but want goods that taste like their own. The cakes are beautiful and tasty, and the cookies are superb. Best gingerbread cookies around. Everything is baked fresh daily! They only take cash or checks, but who cares, cause I will stop for cash on my way in order to bring home the best for my family! Do yourself a favor, and go! Oh, and the new faces in the front house are super friendly, and as sweet as the pie!

Paige P.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong - the baked goods here are delicious but I refuse to shop here due to the poor customer service. Each time I visit to get a cake or baked goods the employees are consistently rude. Also, they only take cash and seem to delight in the fact that almost no one carries cash and they get the opportunity to decline a debit/credit card. I would recommend Fresh! They have wider variety and great service!
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
If I could have given them no stars I would have. I don't normally do reviews but after my experience it is necessary. Biggest disappointment ever. And the owner is a very rude individual. Even found bad reviews here on Yelp so I'm not the only victim. And the biggest thing that hit me was that this is a cash only business. What's up with that! Sounds a little fishy. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other bakeries in town.

Kelsi J.

Yelp
Lovely! I stopped by as i hadn't found a bakery in Tyler before and there were lots of cookies and pretty cakes and the prices were very reasonable i think! The staff were too nice, they only accept cash or checks and when i only had a card they let me have my danish with the promise to return! Hoping that this can be a good place to get fresh bread and treats from now on!
google avatar

Karen O.

Yelp
Brides, save your money. No one needs drama from the cake vendor. Extremely difficult, limited capabilities. Even went back on their word, changed prices. Would not ever use them. Over rated!
google avatar

Monique C.

Yelp
This place has decent cakes and cookies. It is not worth going out of your way to get a cake. This place is better for specialty cakes and wedding cakes. Otherwise, save your money and go to Walmart or Brookshires, unless you don't mind paying over $70 for a 8 inch cake.
google avatar

Jodi W.

Yelp
I called and emailed the Village Bakery for pricing on a birthday cake for my moms birthday. I wanted to do a naked cake ( just icing in between not on the outside). I have seen pictures of them and love the way they look. It took a couple of days for Betty to get back to me. Only to tell me that they do not make naked cakes. I asked why and she told me they are not pretty amongst other things. I'm sorry. I did not know that they have to be appealing to the baker and not the customer. They are very rude and unprofessional. I will never ever go there and I recommend no one else go to them.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Delicious baked goods. A little over-priced. Front of House employee is very rude!

Jan W.

Yelp
I have traded at this bakery for many years. Betty has always been a wonderful person to deal with. As we all age we are not able to do what we used to so I never see Betty any more. The new salespeople are a younger generation and some do not know how to give friendly customer service. They get a 5 for products and an 2-3 for customer service. However, I will continue to buy their wonderful bakery items. JW

Yelp
8 years ago, my daughter was killed in a car wreck so I will never have any grandchildren. A Young couple that I know got pregnant and told me I was going to be the God grandmother. I felt so honored I wanted to find the best bakery to make a baby shower cake. My husband said lets got to this bakery so we stopped at the village bakery. I ask 1 month ago if they could make a cake I had a picture of and they said yes. It was a blue cross and a baby ring with writing in the ring. I told them I wanted a yellow cake, white icing and instead of blue could they make the cross and writing gold she said yes. I called today 8-18-2018 around 12:41pm and she stated you didn't want it till 3:00 and that she hadn't started it yet. I explained I was just checking on it to see if it would be ready by 3. I went at 4:00pm to get the cake and the decorator/manager was already gone. I looked at the cake and it honestly looked like someone cut out a piece of ply wood for the cross and slapped it on the cake. I asked if they could put some glitter on it or boarders to make it where it does not look so plain and the elderly lady said look ma'am it's not my fault I just work here. She got ahold of the manager and the manager said well the other one was blue which had nothing to do with my issue. I said I ordered it a month ago and the lady in the store said well she had a lot of cake to do today which made me think it was a rush job by the looks of it. The manager started getting an attitude with me on the phone and said look ma'am if you don't want the cake don't buy it. All i could do is sit in car and cry hysterically because of the meaning behind what just happened and why I needed the cake in the first place. I feel God and my daughter brought this couple to me as a blessing and that's what I wanted this cake to represent instead it brought unwanted drama that should not be done in the first place from a professional setting. I will be making this know and will call the better business bureau because you do not treat people this way. I had to go to five place to find a cake on a Sat. at 4:30pm and the last place we stopped was WalMart. The lady completely scraped off a cake they had and in 1hour made a cake with a cross that brought me, the manager, and people watching to tears. She even air brushed everything Gold.
