What happened?? I’m really surprised no one has said anything on a review site yet about this place being CLOSED, and it really looks like a permanent closure. The Village Shoppe was closed when I was here in February of this year, but I thought it was maybe just a temporary closure. Now that I’m back doesn’t look like they ever opened back up again… this is a tragedy! 😢😭🥺

Such a cute atmosphere and delicious kolaches (reportedly where savory kolaches were invented). I recommend the ground pork kolaches and the blueberry strudel.

This is a quaint bakery with excellent kolaches and pastries. They say they are the oldest Czech bakery in Texas. The cinnamon roll was the best I've had in years. I had to get some to go! Worth the stop if you're a pastry fan like I am.

I wanted to try kolaches, and figured I may as well come taste the originals at the Oldest Czech bakery in Texas. I was not disappointed! Only problem now is that my standards are too high for most other locations to meet. The staff were friendly, patient, and helpful as I asked questions and made my choices. Fast service. Delicious products. It isn't a long drive from the Interstate - do your taste buds a favour and drive a little out of your way.

I remember walking to your store when I was little just to pick out your kolaches cherry was my favorite. Now 45 I am in Washington state and dream about your goodies. A bookmark I have had for a decade, finally got to West and visiting Czech Stop. So many people have told me to get here and yeah, they were right. I totally blew up my keto diet this morning with this one. I got a chocolate/nutella kolache (awesome!) and a raspberry/cheese kolache (awesome!) and a poppyseed kolache (very good) and some snack sausages (fantastic!). This stop we stumbled upon is a complete gem! The combination of a gas station and bakery is intriguing, perfect for road trippers. The staff's efficiency and friendliness added to the experience. Be prepared to order quickly and to move around to see what's available to order. Quick tip: Arriving early might be a good idea, given the small size and popularity.

First stop when heading from Dallas to Waco is here every time. Great staff and fast moving lines. Best kolache in Texas, probably in the United States. Five stars every time!

So good we stopped here on our way to Aunstin and on our way back! I loved the lemon, apple, and almond kolaches but they were all good. We also got some lemon and blueberry bread as a present and I came home with some yummy brittle! They are busy but the staff works well together to get the line moving. Stop here!! Don't miss it!

Not sure about these popular kolaches, first time trying and got some on our way from Dallas over to Austin and wasn't a big fan. Tried like 5-6 different flavors and thought the sweet ones (cream cheese) are slightly better.

I've grown up visiting the Czech Stop, and for me, it's not only nostalgic but the OG for kolaches in Texas. Not only did I go with my parents on road trips as a kid, I attended Baylor and upheld the late night visit tradition. I recently revisited the Czech Stop on a trip to Dallas, and it hasn't changed one bit! The pastries were absolutely delicious. I ordered many to take home, and they were good for many days after. The servers have a really good system so I was in and out quickly which I appreciated since I was anxious to get home. The store isn't fancy, but wholesome and authentic.

Idk what it is about gas stations in Texas being so cool and fun, but the pattern continues with Czech stop. I took some friends here on a road trip and had to show them what makes this place so special. Idk what they ordered, but they loved it. What did I get? I went hard and got a jalapeno popper, sausage egg and cheese, sausage and cheese, and bacon and egg. And of course for dessert I went with the chocolate chip and cream cheese one. All of them were fantastic, some I obviously liked more than others. Like the jalapeno popper one... I still dream about that one. The sausage egg and cheese was my second favorite because everything was perfectly portioned and every bite was perfect. The dessert one was obviously in its own world and I actually had that one as a late night snack and it was the best decision of my life. Whatever you order, you genuinely can't go wrong. This is a staple in Texas, and must when you go on a road trip!

This is a stop every time I drive by!! I always order the jalapeño poppers! And if it's in the morning I get their breakfast!! I also get the brisket and the pizza kolaches !! Pretty much everything we have ordered here is always super good even the sandwiches that they have is good. The only bad thing is there's always a line because it's so good so everybody comes and gets kolaches, but the line goes pretty quick.!

We stopped here on our way through Texas, and it was so amazing. So many different food options, kolaches, and pretty much any bakery item you could want. They even had TVs showing the process of them making the foods in the back. Service was very friendly and great overall atmosphere.

I thought it was OK, but I probably would not return. Nice friendly service. There are 1 million choices and most of them are for sweet kolaches. I tried both the strawberry cream cheese, which was good but not great and the sausage and cheese. I just didn't really care for the sausage, the bread was OK, but it certainly wasn't the melt in your mouth that I remember from my kolache days.

I had to go on a business trip to Austin last week. We came home on Saturday and my boss had to stop at the Czech Stop because if he didn't his family would be made. I ventured inside and fell in love with the fresh baked smells of bread, kolaches, etc. They had little things to buy that reminded me a lot of going to Stuckeys as a kid on a road adventure. I proceeded to get a bunch of kolaches (fruit on top) along with some rolls with sausage. My wife loves desserts so I got her a little oreo pie. I got a small piece of blueberry bread with icing on top and it was probably the best thing I had. I got two large cookies from the bin that had items on it and they were good too (Snickerdoodles?) . It just took me 28 years to try this place and now I am know!

Really neat spot to pit-stop on the way to/ from Austin to Dallas! Well-known for its from-scratch bakery, this spot is a staple for local & long-distance travelers alike. You can gas up while you have someone stand in the usually wrap-around-the-store line for the goodies found in the numerous cases down front. Satisfy your kids' needs for a road trip souvenir in the inner aisles which are littered with tchotchkes galore! We grabbed some fresh-made deli sandwiches for our car ride and my lean pastrami on rye was divine, but I didn't love that it was paired with Swiss (personal preference, but everything else was lovely). The kolaches were fluffy and cheesy with big chonks of sausage inside, and we got a big piece of chocolate cake that had jelly and frosting in the middle, too! Definitely a good choice for a roadtrip stop. Would like to see the line move faster though!

My wife and I ordered the sausage with cheese and jalapeño kolache. We asked to have them heated up. They were both cool and the jalapeño sat there in a huge clump rather than being carefully placed, or better yet - part of the sausage. This place used to be the bomb. This visit makes me think the completion has gotten the best of them. So disappointed.

Having been coming here for years traveling from Dallas to San Antonio. This is a must stop each time. The staff is very friendly. Service is outstanding. Lots of variety. They have both sweet and savory eats. The pulled pork and sausage patty kolache's are must haves on the savory side. Lemon and peach on the sweet side. Not expensive at all. Hits the spot-on long road trips!

My first kolache experience. I heard this was the best of the best, far better than the imitation that moved in across the way. But just to be sure, my husband and I went to both (and, for good measure, he also got kolaches at Buc-ee's), and the rumors were true: these are invariably the best. Unfortunately, I am allergic to eggs, so I could only really enjoy the fillings. I got some chocolate covered pretzels that were excellent, and they had other desserts as well. The line was MASSIVE on a Sunday afternoon - winding through the store almost out of the door - but when we stopped again at 7pm on a Tuesday night, we walked right to the counter. Thank God. I'm pretty sure the young guy serving us was...I don't know how to say it tactfully...not of a sober mind. He needed us to repeat our order 300 times, was very confused, and we only got 2 Nutella, 2 jalapeño sausage/cheese, and a very berry. But it was worth the stop!

Any time I make a road trip between Dallas and Austin, kolaches from Czech Stop make an appearance. These kolaches are plush pillows with a center of sweet jam. They do tend to be pretty sweet, but there are so many different flavors that I find myself buying a dozen for the family and then trying small pieces of each of the dozen. Some of our favorites include cream cheese, raspberry, strawberry, and apricot... but you can't go wrong! The savory options are also a hit, and the store also offers many other goodies to explore. It's hard to find diversity in culture and perspective in Texas that is not mainstream yet somehow appreciated by the masses, but Czech Stop is a fun unique little oasis!

Wow. Bird owners take note. Bland bread. Thick flavorless fruit. Sausage lump inside the gooey bread. Cheese full of cold color. I tried the savory and sweet stuff. Wow. Terrible. Awful. The bathrooms were 3 stars. Location is convenient for the bathroom.

One of my co workers told me of i was driving between Dallas and Austin I should skip the Buckies rest-stop and head to Czech Stop for Kalachies. This was the best recommendation for unique food. They had a huge selection of pre-made fresh looking sandwiches like tuna, egg, chicken, turkey, and ham salads. Also whole cuts like corn beef. But it was the huge selection of kakachies that got me. Peach, blueberry cheese, sausage and cheese, spinach, you name it. I got 6. All super yum! Skip the big gas rest stop. Shop local!

An absolute must stop on your next road trip!! This is what a kolache is supposed to taste like. If you go, I recommend the chocolate kolache, pepperoni and jalapeño cheddar sausage kolache. They do offer to warm your kolaches which I recommend. The fruit based kolaches were my favorite! The workers just stare out you until you've made up your mind and approach them for what you would like. Service could be better but the food is great and worth the spot! The place is situated near a gas station and there is parking along the perimeter.

Czech Stop is an institution...seriously. Even though I am a born and raised Texan that's passed this place hundreds of times coming up and down 35, I've honestly only been twice (I know, I know). Present me just can't forgive younger me for all those years missing out on the deliciousness of this bakery. You'll very obviously see the Czech Stop sign from the highway...just go ahead and let it mesmerize you into exiting. It's basically attached to a gas station but they have general parking in the front and on the sides of the storefront. Once you're inside, go ahead and be that kid in a kolache store and oggle at all the tasty treats. Czech Stop has an impressive selection of treats, from savory to sweet. Maybe you're really wanting some sausage and gravy biscuits...they have a kolache for that. Maybe you're more in the mood for a burger...they have a kolache for that too! Or maybe you're wanting something berry-forward or chocolate-y or cheesecake-y...they have kolaches for ALL of that. There are a few servers behind the counter ready to take your order, so the line moves quick. I highly recommend trying the ham, cheese, and jalapeño kolache and the mixed berry kolache. The bread is SO fresh and pillowy soft, making it the perfect blank canvass for the different kolache fillings. I think the typical price range is about $2-$4, so you can have breakfast, lunch, or dessert for under $10 easy here. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. I fully intend to try their quick breads the next time I'm trekking down 35!

This place was recommended by a friend. It was an easy stop being that it was right off the freeway. The Czech Bakery happened to be closed, which was fine, because the Czech Stop, carried much of their goods inside the stop. The lines were super super long, but don't fret. I was out within 15 min. They know how to hustle! I ordered the sausage jalapeño kolache, which was excellent! Isn't your mouth watering yet? You couldn't help but get their pastry kolaches, like the pineapple, rasberry, or Curran cheese...they are so delicious, and these are fresh cream cheese-like danishes! They had so much to chose from. They had pies, breads, and of course, inside this gas station, you grab other gas station type junk food. That's what we do. Worth the stop. Quick, delicious. Glad I stopped!

Aside from the bakery thus place is like an ordinary 7-11 type convince store. Imagine that with a line running all around the interior wall. The bakery is the draw. I had some of the beer cheese bread. It was good, with a surprising sweet taste. It was a nice stop on the way from Waco

There's something about a popular, well-established destination. Lots to choose from. Runs like a well-oiled machine. Always well-stocked and well-staffed. Add in some fervor and urgency and you got yourself a nice, little travel must-try. I love places like this when I travel! And I like the vibe I get. I think I would have had a better experience though had I known better what to try. (My bad for not doing some research.) Depending on what you're up for come morning, this is a must-try. Lots of breakfast type options that we would usually consider.

I only have one thing to say about my time stopping here with two of my buddies. Stop here. If it is on your way pull over here. If it is not on your way pull over here. When you go here order the sausage cheese jalepeno kolache and I will tell you one thing. You will have 0 regrets because this is a regret free kolache and that is a first hand review. Next? Dessert time. The best time. Order the raspberry cream cheese kolache. After you eat it you will still feel regret free. On top of all this, it is in a GAS STATION! Gas food and gas for my car and gas for my body but the funny thing is this gas food taste AMAZING I AM NOT MESSING AROUND.

A must stop if you are traveling between Austin and Dallas. This small bakery is located in a Shell gas station in the city of West, TX. I stopped here around 7pm and there was a line to restrooms, but it went quickly since the staff are very time efficient. There are pencils and papers at the end of the line near the restrooms- you can start to jot down what you want and give to the staff when you get to the counter. There are also some menus on the fridge, while you wait in line (you won't be waiting long though). So many goodies in the front cases and on the shelves in the store, from savory and sweet kolaches, pastries, bread, sandwiches, breakfast burritos/sandwiches, lunch subs to homemade pies, jams. The prices are a great deal too, it is hard not to go overboard here.

The Arnold Palmer! 50% tuna salad + 50% egg salad = 100% fresh and tasty. Kolaches were different than I've had: less of a danish, more of a filled sweet bread - still tasty. Service was efficient and friendly.

This is my usual stop whenever I'm heading out of town. Of course I needed to use the bathroom in addition to purchasing breakfast. On top of that, I figured purchasing gas was in order as I was already on half a tank. One-stop-shop...love it! The bakery side was actually open instead of only the convenience store section. This was new for me as I hadn't seen them open in quite some time. Found out they had only been opening on weekends and a few limited days and hours throughout the week. Glad to have caught them on one of those days. Of course the food was good and the service was quick and easy. Thankfully the line wasn't very long and I don't have to dress to impress. Everything was easy to find, and the staff was more than willing to help. I will continue to come here whenever I'm in the area.

An absolute must stop on the drive between Austin and Dallas. Super high quality kolaches and the best bang for your buck you'll find for them. If you enjoy trying a wide variety of different option, this is certainly the place for you. I could stare at their selection for hours and it feel confident in my choices, but all the more reason to keep visiting! Outside of the diversity of options, the quality of bread and freshness of the other ingredients really stands out, particularly relative to a nearby competitor. Even as more of a savory over sweet person, I'd say the sweet kolaches are really the move here. If you're struggling to choose and will only be here once, something with fruit and cream cheese will not guide you wrong. On the savory side I've particularly enjoyed the variety sausage and cheese options, when it comes to meats I think this is clearly their highest quality option. I haven't explored much of their non kolache options in the store, but they are plentiful as well. However if you come here and don't get at least one kolache, you're doing it wrong

I was told to stop here and get some kolaches. Good advice, friend, good advice. I went with 6 total. 2 peach, 2 strawberry and 2 apple. I ate one peach one, immediately, and put the rest in ziploc bags to take home with me to AZ. These things were fantastic! Fresh out of the box....wow! So good! They got a little smashed in my bag at the airport, but even smushed up, pop them in the microwave for about 20 seconds to warm them up, and they tasted damn near just as good as fresh from the store. A must stop if you are driving up to Ft Worth/Dallas.

Have you ever been driving through Texas and thought, man, I wish there was some place I could get a Czech pastry? Have I got a stop for you. Czech Stop is off of I-35 near a Shell gas station. I never would have stopped because I just want to get to where I'm going, but it came highly recommended. They have fruit pies, kolaches, other sweets/savories, and cookies. I opted for an apple kolache. A kolache is a puffy dough with fruit, cheese, or meat in the middle. These are famous in Texas for a good reason. Delectable. There is so much to choose from here. You can definitely get your fill of road trip snacks and be perfectly content to your final destination.

Czech Stop is a MUST stop on the way to Austin from Dallas. Never have I had such delicious and soft kolaches in my life. Overall this place is a solid 8 s/10. I really wish it was halal but they do have halal friendly options. ------------ They have every flavor here that you could imagine, every fruit under the sun along with a tangy cream cheese that pairs perfectly with the sweet fruit. I got the chocolate and cream cheese flavor along with the cottage cheese flavor. The chocolate was not very strong, I would give it a 7/10. I wish I had gotten a fruit flavor. The cottage cheese one was delicious, 8.5/10. They stayed pretty fresh all day long even though they were sitting in a hot car, I was surprised at the great quality. Price: $1.5 per kolache I believe

We have stopped at Czech stop for over 30 years. Getting gas, using RR and some warm yummy Kolaches on our way to and from Austin. Only reason not 5 star - the many staff behind the counter seemed not wanting to help customers but visiting with each other. So the young help not as nice as they use to be the young lady who helped me seemed more upset with me than wanting to help me with my order. Kolaches were good but there are many choices now off highway in West !!

If you're driving the I 35 stretch from Austin to Dallas, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't stop at the Czech Stop. Super-delicious kolaches, baked goods, and sandwiches. They don't make them like this anywhere else. My favorites are the strawberry cream cheese and sausage patty kolaches. Service is always friendly but be prepared to wait in line as these kolaches are popular! Long live the Czech stop!

A must go if you're in West, TX. We stopped by on our road trip down to Austin, and it didn't not disappoint. We got their jalapeño sausage cheddar and the strawberry cream cheese kolaches and they were amazing. The sausage was perfectly cooked, not dry and the cheddar and jalapeño complimented them very well. Made a great breakfast on the go. The strawberry cream cheese ones tasted like heaven. Can't wait to go back and try more flavors! Definitely an essential part of any road trip for us now.

The atmosphere is your basic bakery store waiting area. Clean and smells really good. Good service and delicious food. Come early- there a line, but happy to wait for the good food.

We stopped at this place back in December 2021 and I'm just getting around to putting a review. The location is small but FILLED with baked goods. There items wrapped and ready to go and then there were items behind the glass. There was a bit of a line but we were happy to wait. There were just too many choices. We ended up getting a cupcake, a kolache with fruit, a kolache with sausage and a banana bread. They were so delicious and I can't wait to go back. They also sell spreads that I did not buy.

I love love love this place. I've been going here for years whenever I pass through west Texas! The kolaches are everything good. The homemade bread rolls sausage...delicious ness!!!! Today I introduced my son to the spot and he was impressed. It's alittle overwhelming with so many choices but I knew what I wanted. Cinnamon rolls, kolaches, strawberry pound cake and blueberry cream cheese strudel and pecan rolls. Babbbbbbe. I'm in love with this spot. Customer service is excellent they even warmed up my kolaches with a little mustard of course! Check this place out if you are in west Texas. If you aren't happy I'm pay for your food.. I'm just kidding!! You will not be disappointed!

Quick stop for Kolaches. I didn't know there was so many different types of Kolaches. We made it before the big crowd. Nice service and it was on the way to San Antonio.

We absolutely love stopping by the Czech Stop when driving up to Dallas. Be aware, this is a small gas station, first and foremost. Parking is limited, it has only a few pumps; and thus, a small store to go along with it. Do not be surprised, if going during a popular time, that the line spans out the door and around the building. However, when with all this, it is well worth the stop. They have far more options than your average kolache stop. They are also fast! Be mindful of the endcaps, where they may have marked down goods that can be frozen for a treat at a later date! They have more than kolaches as well. There are sausages galore, and many other bread and pastry options. I am certain that everyone can find something to enjoy when visiting the Czech Stop. Don't let the hustle and bustle deter you. Anything kolache worth having, is worth the wait!!

Tried the sausage and cheese, breakfast sausage egg and cheese, Nutella and cream cheese, and chocolate chip and cream cheese; all 4 were phenomenal!

Been stopping by sporadically on my way to Dallas for years and gotta say the teenage boys behind the counter have not only overpacked my kolaches in a box so that they spill their filling into one another, but they've also managed to ignore me the last two times I've been in ! Either another employee or I myself have had to ask for assistance after walking up to the counter and waiting to be helped. Train those guys better or send them to clean the back, though the way they work on the public end I'd hate to see how the back would end up. :( I hate to leave a bad review on a place I love so much but I could probably have assisted better than these guys and they irritated me so much that I'm here. The food is great ! The service is just boldly lacking lately.

Cinnamon rolls are the best I've had and had to weigh at least 2 pounds each! That smell when you walk in was heaven and I've been wanting to go back, but was only driving by and stopped for a restroom break, not knowing I was going to have wonderful memories of that bakery.

I finally got to try Czech Stop on the way to Dallas from Round Rock. I have to say that this place is top on my list! I had the cream cheese & lemon cream cheese kolaches *chef's kiss* so delicious! Along with the plain sausage kolache. Everything was so amazing that we hit it up a second time on the way home. My family & I will for sure return for some fantastic kolaches!

It should be a law for travelers of IH 35 that they stop just once at either north or southbound locations, of the world-reknowned Czezck Stop fuel and food stop. Looking at their online menu, I was surprised to learn that they offered to die for peach and apple cobbles which are now a part of my purchases there. You owe it to your sweet teeth to try them also!
