Village Tavern Restaurant & Inn

Reviewing the tavern specifically. Did not stay in the inn. Food was delicious. Well prepared and fairly priced. Everything else about the experience was awful. Crammed into a corner table without room and penned against wall. Server had an attitude from introductions and visibly did not want to serve us and seemed to hate his job. He rarely checked on us and never refilled waters unless we went out of our way to flag him down. Food items we ordered (crab bisque) were forgotten about until we asked questions and the food did not come out in the correct order. And for the cherry on top, the restaurant charged us for a bottle of wine we did not order or consume. When challenged on this, it took far too long to present a corrected bill. The experience was so bad we considered leaving without payment. Would not recommend to anyone. Food is good. Front of house doesn't give a shit about the customer experience.

What a lovely place for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon! We thoroughly enjoyed everything (Caesar, crab cake, and shrimp sandwich and nice cold draft beers) very comfortable atmosphere with excellent service - I think our server's name was Heather. Great seating options with cozy booths and welcoming bar area. We look forward to returning soon!

Stopped in 12/12 in the afternoon. Good vibe in this cozy little place as soon as I entered with Blues music playing. Had a couple of pints of Guinness and the *Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder & Grilled Andouille Sausage entree which came out quickly and was delicious. Bartender (Will) was friendly and accommodating, made me feel right at home. Highly recommend.

We had a great lunch and a quiet price. Try to give in that.We were eating on november first. We enjoyed the shrimp sandwich and the salmon.The salmon had an amazing sauce with it. Good service in great ambience. Here is the updated menu.

Food was really good! The service and atmosphere could use improvement. The hostess had a hoodie on, the employees were just kinda visiting with each other and when we saw a mouse run across the floor and said something to our server, her response was, “yeah, that’s our friend, Mr. Mouse.”

After receiving drinks and placing an order for soup and stuffed mushrooms we were put on ignore. It was obvious that Heather forgot to put in our order. So we continued to be ignored while those around us were served. I when to the bar to get another beer and we were served the soup and the app. Both were underwhelming so, much to Heather’s surprise, we skipped dinner. Won’t be back. Sorry not sorry!

We were really looking forward to brunch, our server Mindy told us it was only on Saturday, so we ordered an app, soup and salads. Our salads came before the soup or app. I had the Caesar salad which was bland. The soup, app and my husbands salad was good. Not once did she check on us and while waiting for our check the table next to us received brunch menus!!! We haven't eaten here in years and will try again for brunch

Eat there for brunch on a Sunday. The eggs were hard to look at , cold, and inedible. It was hard to eat the rest of the meal because of the smell of the eggs. The potatoes looked good but they were also gross. No one came by to check to see how our food was because I got to imagine they know how bad the food is that they are serving. My kids couldn't even eat the kids burgers that they ordered and they eat just about anything.

She-crab soup is amazing. Seafood omelet excellent also. Glad we tried this place again. Was here over the summer and the entree tasted like burnt butter so wasn't sure we'd come back but soooo glad we did.

Had a great experience at this tavern in one of the tastiest restaurants around. The food was so rich! The staff was so friendly and observant! The establishment was clean and nice and cool! It was located at the end of the lake where my friends live in the summer and we even bumped into another friend in the quaint town.

We dined at this restaurant on our last night in town. My wife chose ahi tuna and crispy coconut shrimp that were served over coconut rice and included a side of string beans. I countered with blackened salmon with praline sauce over mashed potatoes and smothered collard greens. Each dish turned out to very good so a return visit on a future trip is assured.

Stopped in for lunch when we were passing by the town. Food was decent. I liked the seafood pasta. Service was friendly and there is a tavern/bar atmosphere given all the wooden chairs. There are single restrooms for both ladies and men.

So cool to have a Cajun restaurant in hammondsport! It was so good. My mom and I tried this place out on a quiet off-season Monday. We started with a bottle of wine and then ordered the 24 hour roasted Pork Shoulder and Short Ribs. It came out SO quickly. The chef said he's used to the place being busier so he was extra speedy. My Short Ribs were really dry and not much Cajun spices on it. But the mashed potatoes were so good I almost forgave them. The Pork Shoulder and jambalaya were really nice and flavorful but not as much heat as you would expect from a Cajun spot. We finished off with a warm chocolate cake with what he wear was a red wine reduction. Seemed like cherry sauce to us. But it was very good. We took all our leftovers to go so there's more to come!

i will start with the mouse in the dining room that the server seemed to not care about when mentioned. she made a joke about it being a "friendly mouse". The food over all was actually pretty good. the only complaint I have is the ceasar salad was just lettuce and dressing with tomatoes??? no croutons. no Parmesan cheese. the server that was training the new server seemed annoyed and not friendly. when we asked about sides, we were told to refer to the menu. the prime rib was great and the short ribs and the shrimp with grits. all were very good.

This was convenient for a light lunch and drinks after a wine tour. The atmosphere reflects a friendly neighbor pub, but welcoming to tourists. They were not terribly busy and we were warmly greeted and seated. They have small but varied beer selection and a varied lunch menu for every taste. We would not hesitate to stop again in our travels.

We had an amazing experience and meal at Village Tavern. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were friendly, hardworking, and helpful. The hostess, Julia, was outstanding.

Service was delightful. Fish very very good. They complied with my no butter request with great technique. Vegetable were frozen.

We visited Hammondsport, NY in the Finger Lakes for the very first time in September. We made reservations for the Village Tavern after learning that John Mims had moved to Hammondsport with his wife Kerri and bought the restaurant and inn earlier this year. John refurbished the interior and completely overhauled the menu with his signature New Orleans style specialties. John made my wife and our guests a tasting dinner that completely blew us away. It featured oysters, lobster, foie gras, filet, crab, chocolate bourbon pecan pie and New Orleans beignets. It was one of the most memorable restaurant meals that I have ever had! But why should I have been surprised? John had blew us away so many times when we were regular customers of his various restaurants in the Philadelphia suburbs. We were only in Hammondsport for a long weekend but returned two more times for dinners where our friends had dishes like: short ribs, ahi tuna, crab cakes, and creole chicken confit. One of my friends said that the short ribs were so good that it made him cry! In addition to John being a fabulous chef, the wait staff were warm and personable. Cheri, who waited on us two times, made us feel like family and gave us big hugs on our last night there. If you visit the Finger Lakes region this restaurant should be on the top of your priority list for dining. If you need a place to stay, they also have several suites that you can stay in for your overnight accommodations.

Everything was great from Brenda, who waited on us to the food. I highly recommend this place.

We stopped in for an early dinner, the restaurant was basically empty so we grabbed a booth. Our server was very nice, got us our drinks, told us the specials and gave us menus to look at. Our apps: we were munch hungry, got the bleu cheese/ balsamic house-made chips, a pretzel and the Hubs got a cup of seafood chowder. Pretzel was gigantic, chip and cheese were plentiful, both were very good! Seafood chowder was good. Of course, this was way too much food and dinner was not an option anymore. We took chicken tenders and a fish fry to go. Both looked and smelled really good, I think they'll be fine warmed up. The restaurant had four or five tables going by the time we left. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and accommodating, would go back.

A hidden gem in the village of Hammondsport NY. Who would expect a New Orleans themed restaurant! The Crab Bisque was delicious! Creamy, flavorful and full of crab!! The shrimp and grits was delicious! In fact it could have had a little more spice! The wait staff (Kaylee) was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the accompanying spinach in a cream sauce made us want more!! Even the bread and pesto sauce was delicious!! My only complaint was that it is two hours away from home!!

Stopped in for dinner entries prices were fair. Are waitress was fantastic and very attentive nice clean establishment refreshments were cold. What are you waiting for.

Wow !!! Our waitress Kyla was outstanding , and the food was so good . We had the pulled pork sandwich with french fries sat outside , under the awning while it rained. It was a perfect day.

Inside was busy and nice. Service was attentive but completely got the wrong order and didn't check before we left. Seafood lasagna and crab soup were as good as they could be, even though I'd never order that. Would go again.

Food was delicious! Service was amazing. Experience to remember. I got the beef short ribs and they were moist and tender. If you are ever in Hammondsport, it's a must!

The hostess placed us at the perfect table for a group with three generations ranging in age from 8 to 77. I ordered a crab cake that was perfectly prepared with loads of lump crab meat. But the bast part was the service... Cherri anticipated our needs and handled each "geezer" challenge with a smile and a laugh. it made for a memorable meal.

Had a delicious local wine with appetizers with my husband. They are dog friendly outside on the sidewalk and we enjoyed a beautiful evening in October. Chatted with other patrons who also enjoyed their meals. Our server Cheri, was fun and suggested appetizers that we didn't initially consider. Her suggestions were spot on! Would definitely go back again!

Historic feeling. Very quaint bar/restaurant. We opted for indoor seating. Today the chili was the special. I had the cup and my husband the bowl. It had a good kick to it!! Corn bread was also on the side. There was shaved white cheese on the top. Very good. Great friendly service.

Crab and gouda cheesecake is absolutely amazing and one of a kind meal. The waffle chicken wings were also terrific. Service was top notch and the atmosphere was relaxing, but yet efficient. We greatly enjoyed this place and highly recommend this fine establishment.

I've eaten at The Village Tavern for over 20 years and this is my first time with the Cajun influenced menu--a few of the old stand byes like prime rib are still on the menu. I went Cajun with the Cajun seafood pasta and a very thick crab bisque. The bisque is more the thickness of a good chowder which was fine for me. The Cajun seafood pasta was extremely filling, good and served hot. The wine list was not the huge book of years past but a smaller more typical sized list. Service was fine but not great. The Cajun influenced menu brought decor chances which freshened the decor. Still the best food in Hammondsport!

I am a local guy who hosted a tour group from West Virginia. We had dinner at the Village Tavern. I haven't been there in many years and remember stopping in for a hamburger and a beer or wine. Our visit there tonight was an over the top surprise. Chef Mims prepared us a meal that I really didn't expect to get in the place I remember. There were 29 of us. He prepared an OUTSTANDING 4 course meal for us that was prepared and seasoned perfectly! If you are headed to Hammondsport, give this place a call and see when he will be preparing another on of his 4 course dinner specials. You won't be sorry. The staff was very warm and welcoming from the second we entered the building. The owner, his wife, the servers and the bartenders were all there to make our evening and our visitors experience one to remember. We even called the chef out to the dinning room and gave him a very well deserved round of applause.

My husband and I had a marvelous dinner here. He had a very generous portion of prime rib and I had the amazing seafood court bouillon. Incredible! The food was nothing short of spectacular! The service was well above expectations. Friendly and welcoming, Kayla really went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right. If you visit The Finger Lakes, (and everyone should) The Village Tavern is a definite MUST DO! Outstanding!

This might well be a one-off terrible incident as we just had good service. We sat outside and had great service. Our wives came and wanted to cool off in the A/C so we went inside. When we went inside we grabbed a table on the left of the area. When the waiter came we told him we we're only interested in a round of drinks he abruptly walked away and never returned. I will add that there were other empty tables. So which is better being rude with no customers or being efficient, serve the customers -get a tip and make money!!

Short ribs were excellent!! Waitress Sherry was awesome! She told us about the ring of fire that night. Will definitely go there again.

Great dinner our waitress was absolutely amazing Cheri (Karen) also Tara and Brenda ! We had a blast and alot of laughs the food was amazing and way more than we could eat! Coming back tonight! Highly recommended!!

Great pub ambiance. Enjoyed Keuka Lake Salad Fromage with added seared ahi tuna. Loved the salad; loved the sweet dressing; loved the few pieces of spiced poached pears. The tuna was excellent. Neither the salad nor the ahi tuna was as large a portion as I would have expected given the price point. If the portions were larger or the price lower, I would have considered giving this restaurant 5*. We parked right in front of the restaurant.

Had a wonderful dinner tonight. Cherie, our server, recommended the short ribs- they were delicious. My spouse loved them. I had the steak burger with yummy French fries. All in all, a very delicious dinner and Cherie was a delight.

The place is large and accommodated our group of 8 with no troubles. The adult cheeseburger and the kids menu cheeseburger were the same size (not pictured). The default sides for entrees is coleslaw so be sure ask about substitutions if you want something different, there is an up charge. The kids meals default side is applesauce (also options for substitutions with up charge. The seafood chowder was very salty I couldn't finish the bowl. It was tasty and filled with lots of "meat" just needed to be toned down with the salt.

What an incredible meal! Best BBQ out of the south hands down! Meddalions of beef cooked to perfection! Don't forget to try the deep fried pickle spears ! Gloria is the best waitress!

Village Tavern Restaurant is truly a must if your in the area!! My wife and I came into town with two other couples to visit Hammondsport and Watkins Glen for the weekend. This restaurant was highly recommended by our VRBO contact, the meals were excellent with hints of New Orleans mixed in!!! Cheri, our server took great care of us, and was quick witted and a delight to have! Highly recommend if you are near by!! We had the Village Tavern restaurant Restaurant is truly a must if your in the area!! We had Seafood Court Bouillon and Beef Short Ribs, both were excellent!!!! Followed up with New Orleans Beignets tossed w/powdered sugar! 5 Stars to Village Tavern and staff!!!

The food was excellent. The menu offered a great variety of items to choose from and each person in our group of 5 had something different. All of us were happy with our choices. Our waitress Heather did a great job! Very attentive and caring. She gave us great advice and our meal was delivered quickly and hot. The restaurant has a small hometown feel and warm atmosphere. Well stocked bar with lots of choices of beer, wine and liquor. We would have given it 5 stars all day long but for one thing. Even and old hometown restaurant needs a good floor cleaning. All in all though we would return as often as we are in town. Keep it up Tavern Vilage & Inn!!

The food was the best I've had anywhere around here and cheri was our server and she was great!! Seriously tho I can't say enough about how good the food was. The lump crab and smoked Gouda cheesecake App is AMAZING

Had a wonderful glass of wine and cocktail from the extensive local wine list. Cheri took great care of us and we had a great conversation about Keuka Lake. We sat outside on the pleasant patio and they even brought out ice water for the doggo. I've been coming to Village Tavern for years, and tonight reminded me why!

Under new ownership, the food is wonderful, the service is great! They've changed the decor a little bit. It looks nice.

Took my family to the Village tavern for the first time today. Of 4 people , three had an enjoyable luncheon. I was the exception. I ordered the special steakhouse burger (?medium cooked) which, on the menu, sounded delicious. It arrived as a charcoal covered hunk of burnt hamburger ( no pink in the center for sure) that was mostly inedible except for the center. My party encouraged me to send it back to the kitchen- we know the rumors of that- so I choked down enough of the dry nasty burger to get out of there. Maybe time to go vegan?!?

WOW! Best meal we had on our visit to the Finger Lakes! After a long day of visiting the fabulous wineries and sights the area has to offer, we were looking for a good meal, and not bar food. We stopped in the Village Tavern to peek at their dinner menu and could see the other patrons enjoying their dinner & the New Orleans tribute hanging on the walls. My wife got a pasta dish with crab and a cream gravy sauce which you could bottle and drink, delicious. I ordered the Prime Rib which is sometimes a gamble, but this was a good 'cut' of meat. The Prime Rib had layers of flavor to it and was hit with the broiler for that charred taste. Best I've had in a long time. The most memorable food item was the cream spinach, Delicious! I highly recommend the Village Tavern for a good meal or just to have a drink, The atmosphere was cozy, and the servers are very accommodating and personal. I want to give a shout-out to Cherie, who took care of us, and has in-depth knowledge of the Keuka Lake area, Thank You!

The waitress was rude. they served us a stale bottle of wine that was $40. After making them aware they said we needed to still pay for it. we paid and never ordered food. The staff was rude. I called after and owner said he was drinking out of our glass and said the wine was fine. how gross.

Hammondsport is a very quaint picture postcard town, with several restaurants on the town green. We decided on this place and couldn't have had a nicer dinner. The staff, especially our server Kayla, were warm and inviting and provided excellent service. We sat on the veranda on a cool early autumn night, surrounded by beautiful vines. The menu is extensive and full of tempting choices. My wife had the short ribs and I had the chicken confit, both were perfect. We splurged on dessert, the bread pudding was fantastic, lots of sauce just the way I like it (instead of dry and bready, not my thing) and a fabulous chocolate cake. The wine list is not huge but the choices provided were great. All in all a wonderful dinner out. Thank you Kayla!

The food here was fabulous. The short rib was to die for. Our server Cheri was wonderful and helpful. She took the time to tell us places to go and see and was very attentive and lovely!

First and last time there. Mussels were sandy. Burger was 17. No french fries just a small 2 ounce container of coleslaw. Wine 12. A glass. Not worth the money.

Cheri was a really great server. Funny and made us feel very welcomed. Great place to visit.

Spent the weekend in Hammondsport, which I did not expect to be a hotbed for fine cuisine, but stopped in to the Village Tavern based on a bunch of recent reviews. Boy am I glad we did. The ambience was old time lake village, the staff could not have been more welcoming and hospitable and the food was off the charts good. The Cajun/Creole influence, which comes from a new and highly regarded chef from what we were told, was evident but not overt and made for an interesting and incredibly tasty experience. The beer and wine selection was also very extensive. I have no reservations about giving this place the maximum rating. It may not be white table cloth- but it very well could be.

Had an outstanding meal tonight. I highly recommend the beef short rib. Kayla was friendly and gave great recommendations.

New owners have done a great job. Enjoyed the New Orleans style shrimp with bacon. Cajun Seafood pasta. Bread with oil and roasted garlic was a nice treat. Cherie (our server) was fantastic and attentive. We enjoyed sitting outside on a nice evening.

This place is great! The food and service are worth the visit. Our server Cheri is the BEST. So attentive and genuine. I can't wait to come back!

Went for a late lunch with a party of eight had to sit at two different tables . Wait staff was entertaining,beer selection was good drinks were good . The group had Mussels ,jambalaya ,muffaletta ,fried green tomato blt, portion size was good,overall good experience and atmosphere prices are slightly high.
