Where To Make Friends When Miami Feels A Little Lonely

"You can “yes, and…” your way into friendship at this wonderful comedy venue, who offer improv classes as well as put on live shows every weekend at their small theater in Little Haiti. There’s a full bar too, with cocktails you’ll have trouble holding down while laughing along to an improvised play about a sea monkey in the midst of an existential crisis after being rejected from Monkey Jungle. And if you’ve resolved to never miss a single episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the theater holds watch parties for your viewing pleasure. This is literally a room full of extroverts—if you leave them alone for too long, they start making friends with the walls. You can check out their full events calendar here. So much fun. Great place for comedy. All of the actors were fantastic and the best bit was acting out a movie that opened this weekend. The drinks were great and no drink min like other places. I would recommend 100x over

This place is amazing! How refreshing to laugh like that! I didn’t know I needed that so badly! I love the vibe and the edgy-ness and the cast’s willingness to take risks. Teas a great show indeed. And the host is hilarious- and a staple at the theatre! I might actually have to sign up for these improv classes finally….!

Villain Theater is an important generator for the creative community. The shows not only provide a low cost avenue to access local artists, but also a safe haven for creative expression. Go see a show, you won’t regret it.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a performance at Villain Theater, and it was an unforgettable experience! The atmosphere was electric, and the talent on stage was absolutely phenomenal. The performers showcased their skills with humor and creativity, making the night both entertaining and engaging. The variety of shows offered is impressive, catering to all tastes and ensuring there's something for everyone. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive vibe of the theater. I highly recommend Villain Theater to anyone looking for a fun night out filled with laughter and fantastic performances. I can’t wait to return for more shows! ---

I love this gem💎! I took a V1 (i.e., beginner) improv class weekly for two months and it was what I looked most forward to most all week long! They taught us great 🎭 skills, yet kept it fun. The teachers are proficient and I very much appreciated the diverse ages of the students. I also enjoyed the theater as an audience member too watching the entertaining antics of others in group comedy skits. A big bonus is that their background music choices 🎧 and system sound is always on-point!

I've been going to VT since the early days (2015!!!) Premiere Improv theater works, comedy club and drag show hosts! The energy they bring is amazing each and every time. The talent is unstoppable. Love them!

JD

Google
I thought it was a great experience. Much more intimate than I anticipated which I appreciate. The actors were good and the content was okay. But it was improve so some skits end up being better than others. Overall I would go back to this place again.

Being open-minded and interested in experiencing various walks of life pays off when living in Miami. Looked on eventbrite for something to do on a recent Friday night. Found a RuPaul's Drag Race elimination round watch party. And this is how I learned about Villain Theater! From what I gathered, there is quite a variety of programming here like improv and comedy shows. A friend and I met up here for the big event. I've been familiar with Little Haiti for decades but admittedly haven't kept up with what's going on since the area started changing. All that to say, I went in totally blind. Well, honey. Villain Theater opened my eyes! Wide open, in a great way. There is a lobby/waiting area with a concession stand and restrooms. The theater inside is dark with low lighting, plenty of seating and a stage that is easily viewable from any seat in the room. On the evening I visited, not only was there the RPDR watch party with amazing hosts, there was even an all-out revue! Now, I wasn't expecting this. Nevertheless, it was certainly an entertaining and tasteful experience with expert performers as well as amateurs. Pro tip is bring plenty of cash ($1s and $5s) - I know for next time. Performers also accept tips via electronic payment. :) Villain Theater felt like an all-inclusive safe space. Everyone was welcomed in and treated with respect. I highly commend the staff and hosts for doing an excellent job in that regard. Major pluses were free parking, cheeeap drinks and they have popcorn!

Yelp
I like the Villain Theater. It's very friendly and you can tell it is very open to the community. We went to one of their improv shows for date night and it was very fun. I didn't get to try the food since we came from dinner. But they offer a selection of drinks. The show did run a little bit longer than expected. What's cool is that there are opportunities for you to take improv classes and also take your company here for team building.

Yelp
I came to know of this place through TPK Miami, which is a local group that hosts D&D nights throughout the Miami area at local breweries. They were sponsoring a D&D themed improv show with some of the local comedy talent. The shows are awesome! So well-produced, I have a blast every time. The venue is awesome, very cozy and cool decor inside. There is a full bar with a greater selection of beer and soft drinks--shows have a 1 drink minimum but if you're not drinking, soft drinks count. They usually are hosting a local food stand outside to get a bite before your show. I love it here and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I absolutely love villain theater! the atmosphere is chill but so much fun, they serve great drinks, great service, no food. The stand-up comedy is my favorite, especially since my son is one of the comedians. I highly recommend villain if you're looking for laughs and libations and an overall good time.

Yelp
Hands down the best place in Miami for real local comedy. Amazing stand up shows every Friday night and improv shows on Saturdays. There is also karaoke Saturday that is a blast. Delicious drinks that aren't too expensive. You can even order from your table to easily get your drinks delivered on demand! Amazing community who are super supportive of students. Perfect place to learn to do stand up, improv, or comedy writing. If you haven't been to Villain already, you are missing out! We will see you there soon!

Yelp
We have been going to Magic 13 Brewery a few blocks away. While sitting at the bar I was checking out the area and came across you guys. Thought the Doll House sounds like a lot of fun so we decided to to come on out. We had such a good time. Can't wait to come back for another show.

Yelp
Hilarious improv group. Very funny and creative. Lots of great talented comedians/improv actors on stage tonight. Very nice people and definitely a place fans of acting and comedy should put on their list of places to go when I Miami.

Yelp
Villain is a singular cultural force in Miami. It brings us something we very much need and would not otherwise have. It's welcoming and fun and wonderful.

Okan K.

Yelp
They're charging 18% gratuity fee for opening your beer, that is $7, without even letting you know. Too loud music between sketches that is also annoying. I came here to listen to actual comedy and they failed mostly. Not coming back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great theater that has a great program for students. Whether you're looking to have a laugh or learn to make someone laugh Villain has something for you.

Yelp
Just left the place. 90 percent not funny. Had 5 comics and some bombed 100 percent. Headliner sang these songs that were awful. Perhaps this is humor of todays world. But looking at others seem to be on the same page.

Yelp
Hello Miami! I've visited the quaint theatre various times. I celebrate three things emphatically about this place. 1) Reliably, on Saturday nights, their improv provides an in-person SNL atmosphere. This could be a good motivator to get off the proverbial couch and meet local comics. 2)The comedic genius of Noel, Peter Mahr, and Jannelys is appreciated on every occasion. These masters of timing and pop culture encyclopedias are Miami treasures. 3) They invest in a hopeful future for this city. Their support of Little Haiti and LGBT issues, gives me hope that art and culture will thrive in the future Miami. Don't go here expecting an established theatre with seasoned veterans. Think of it as your sketchy investment in cryptocurrency. It may not always follow an established format, but it will pay dividends in the future.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of seeing my first live comedy show in a few years. The setup is fantastic and features some fantastic local comics that are training there plus a headliner that is a social media sensation and why we came. Running live entertainment during COVID-19 is extremely challenging because you need to balance safety with still letting guests enjoy a night out and they were truly fantastic. Our arrival required temperature checks, mask requirements were clearly posted and adhered to. The seating was with tables with six foot separations, and groups were individually seated to avoid crowding. Using a QR code at our table we were able to order drinks during the show, a fantastic addition I hope remains long past the pandemic. We had a truly fantastic time, and would gladly return to support and enjoy the local performing arts. Despite the show being targeted towards 18+, the website said bringing minors was parental discretion. It was definitely adult material, which we were expecting, and appreciated that nobody there gave us any negativity towards our decision to bring our kids. We appreciated having our decision respected, even if we were the only ones with kids there.

Yelp
incredible atmosphere and a family full of talented and dedicated comedians and entertainers. highly recommend. I took 2 improv courses (8 weeks each) and loved to perform both publicly and privately. instructors take their job and craft seriously. Great and diverse performances as well!

Yelp
One of my favorite theaters in town. Wide array of talent and comedy on display many days of the week. It's a theater for the people by the people and will promise an experience you'll go back for.

Yelp
As a lover of Improv comedy, I find their approach and philosophy refreshing! I ended up with the great fortune of having two instructors for the foundational VT 1 class and even with a couple years of Improv under my belt, I still added new Improv tools, thanks to this class. Both Joe and Patrick as the VT 1 instructors, have a strong passion for this art form and the teach with a sense of joy, while also providing constructive criticism. Additionally, I'm a fan of the Jam session, these are available to any from VT 1 and up. These Jams are like a mini class with lessons that help each performer level up in their skill set, plus another added benefit, of performing on stage. I highly recommend taking these classes whether you're new or an experienced Improvisor!

Yelp
I love this place! This place literally changed my life when I started taking classes. Laughter is the best medicine. This place is a great laugh pharmacy!

Yelp
Love love love this spot!!! The comedians often leave me gasping for air from all of the giggles. Their jokes tend to be a bit more Miami specific so if you're not familiar with Miami it might go over your head but I guarantee you will be laughing all night.

Yelp
Plopped in the heart of Little Haiti Villain Theater is a nice night out. I can't say it was a night of constant laughs--this is a theater that is also a comedy school so there are a good amount of newbies. As impressive as it is to do stand up, I would be lying to say they were all funny. A lot of people in the crowd seemed to be spoken for so there was no booing (although I did see some people in the crowd signal for comics to get of the stage via peace sign). Don't get me wrong, a couple were genuinely very funny and I would love to see them again. Villain Theater itself needs some improving, the room/seating were ok but the bar is severely understaffed. My friend ordered a drink on the QR code and after 30 minutes of waiting & trying to flag down a staff member we were approached by staff with a different drink and we were finally able to bring up the order (1 cocktail 3 popcorns). The drink came out, but no popcorn and no staff came near us again to request some. *Yes we could have gotten up to get some, but the point of going to a comedy show is to sit and watch it.* They also have a very difficult time finding people to give them their orders, they need a better system. I would also recommend that they improve the snack options or collaborate with a food truck to be there when they have shows.

Yelp
The classes were great and Patrick is a phenomenal teacher! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Great spot for open mike comedy. Really enjoyed the look and feel of the venue. Hosts were great.

Yelp
It's like church...but BETTER. Seriously, these guys and gals are incredibly hip and talented.
google avatar

Dallas A.

Yelp
Have u ever wanted to laugh so bad? If not come here, you won't even crack a smile, I could sit on my toilet and talk to my door knob and laugh more. Saddest part is a "instructor" was on stage w them, what is he instructing them to do? Who would pay someone that's not funny to become funny? The funniest part was the ride home where we laughed at how terrible it was and got to rag on my mom for dragging us there
google avatar

Phillip C.

Yelp
I travelled from the west coast of Florida's to Miami for the improv show And it was fantastic. The performers were so talented. It was my girls birthday and we spent the evening there drinking and laughing. The audience participation was enthusiastic. The audience was small because of covid restrictions but they did a great job of making social distancing work.
google avatar

Yelp
Great entertainment Super friendly staff Cant believe I haven't heard of this place when I was born and raised here ;) Thanks for a great time !
google avatar

Yelp
The best place for comedy in Miami! Inclusive, diverse and filled with laughs and great vibes. The programming is extremely original; from musical improv to stand up shows and even drag, Villain does it all. Villain Theater is also a training center and they offer affordable improv and stand up classes. Highly recommend this place.

Melissa G.

Yelp
Went here for a friend's show. He was part of the graduating class & saw the entire class perform. Such a fun time! Easy check in & the food, service & jokes were great!

Yelp
If you haven't checked out this place by now I suggest you do so! It's like being back in high school in the Glee club, it's super funny comedy and improv
google avatar

Lú P.

Yelp
Villain Theater is a lot of fun. I attended several opera skits which were absolutely hilarious. The singers were super talented and I loved the informal setting where the audience could lounge around and drink and eat while listening to the beautiful voices and the funny lyrics. Great and unique Experience!
google avatar

Adrian M.

Yelp
I absolutely love this comedy club. The skits are always so relatable and the actors are super funny. Pero like, SUPER funny. I especially love when they take suggestions from the audience for their skits. It's always fun to watch them improv and create stuff on the spot. I also love how community-oriented they are! Villain is always partnering with great non-profits such as the Alliance for GLBT Youth, SMASH, Maven and others. This is the kind of local business worth supporting and investing in. And they really earn it!
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
Had a great time here last night! The performers and comedians are all very talented ! Thanks for a great show guys. Totally recommend for a date night or if you're looking for a unique experience (:

Anna S.

Yelp
Improv comedy show was one of the worst thing I've ever watched. It was not funny and not creative performance with plenty of vulgar cringe jokes. Don't waste your time and money.
google avatar

Jeanine E.

Yelp
What a fun place! Never been to an improv show other than student productions in highschool. Group of 4 of us came on a Saturday night. Not in my favorite part of town but once inside it was fine. Small bar with solid beer options and some liquor. Don't think there were any snacks but that would have been nice! They performed 4 skits with an intermission. I loved it! You could tell who the newbies were on stage which was a bit awkward but its okay! I appreciate them giving a chance to those just starting out and getting comfortable. Free shots? Yes please! The whole thing felt long (in a good way). I enjoyed most of the skits. Some were a bit over the top and others underwhelming (with the newbies) My favorite was definitely the musical act and the very first skit they did (I can't remember the name)

Brianna R.

Yelp
Came here for a comedy show for a girls night and we had to try each drink on the menu they sounded so delicious! The comics were hilarious and can't wait to come back
google avatar

Yelp
Comedy, especially improv, can be one of those things where you're either laughing out loud or wondering what the hell you got yourself into by coming. Fortunately Villian Theater, or "VT" as they called it, was the former. I laughed, I laughed, I cringed, and I laughed some more. The theater is intimate (small), and that makes you feel like you're in the show with the performers. A friend of mine joined their class and they had sort of a graduation for them the other night. Yes, they offer classes. You can join their troop or do a drop in class. I believe the drop in class is $5. The show began promptly at 7:30 and ran for about an hour. It was funny. And not just because I was being a supportive friend, but I actually laughed. They do good work here. Oh! And they have a small bar in the back. Maybe that's why I kept laughing? Anyhow. For something different to do in Miami, this is it!

Monique S.

Yelp
Love the Villian Theater! Great comedy. Fun classes. Yummy drinks. A safe space to be creative and to laugh!! The world needs a Villian Theater on every block!! Yessss!!
google avatar

Mila A.

Yelp
This is a great spot to let your hair down and just laugh while you nurse a cup of wine. One of the few theaters that doesn't have a drink minimum. Parking is free! But limited so try to get there 20 minutes early. The shows are very well priced and hilarious. Not for the modest, though. Drinks inside are cheap and the atmosphere is casual. Afterward we usually catch a drink nearby.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! It's awesome to see they've reopened their doors and they're following all the necessary procedures bc the health and safety their staff and patrons are the number one priority....and Villain is all about it.

Andrea C.

Yelp
I love Villan Theater, I went there after a hard time in my life while I was looking for something fun to do out of the box and it was exactly what I needed. Every lesson was packed with learning and laughs and above all an awesome group of new friends.

Yelp
Villain Theater is a fun spot for comedy in South Florida. This is hands down the most chill hangout vibe. Great for girls nights ,date nights-- and everything in between.

Yelp
I've always been ashamed of my body hair. As a man of Italian descent, I was gifted with more than I needed and it affected my self esteem. Instead of carrying around that bad feeing the rest of my life, I decided to try improv comedy. I found Villain Theatre and signed up for one of their courses. Apprehentious at first, I was unsure how I would be received. What happened next amazed me! Not only was my extensive body hair accepted, the instructors couldn't get enough of it! I was finally home, among other Greek gods in Eden. Dungeon Masters Jeff Quintana and Peter Mir brought me into the "introduction closet" on my first day. They assured me they do that with everyone, so I agreed. It was dark and I felt this hard object on my back. They told me it was a door knob that would open worlds to me I'd only dreamed of. So I turned it, and a euphoric sound emanated from the crack and light appeared... Into another room! This time I had to pull on this futuristic door knob and the door opened to yet another world of mystery! This continued for another couple of hours. At the end it was darkness again. Two beings entered... It was Jeff Quintana and Peter Mir with full on moustaches! I must have been gone for a week or so on this journey. They were in goat men suits, Satyr's they called them. Cured they said I was! Complete! And that I shouldn't ever tell this story to anyone. Especially about the door knobs but this healing isn't something I can keep to myself anymore! They are amazing and that drink they gave me really calmed me down when we first met. Thank you Villains! Les Villains sont là , vive les Villains! Highly recommend! - jemismyname.com

Yelp
If you've never seen a live improv comedy show you're missing out on a great experience! I have a lot of respect for anyone that can get up on stage in front of a crowd and make people laugh, especially when they're making it up as they go, and all for around the same price of a movie ticket. Located in the heart of Little Haiti, the next up and coming area, places like the Villain Theater is proof that Miami is growing in a positive direction so long as we support it.
google avatar

Lena C.

Yelp
Oooooo. New digs Villian Theater?! I see y'all. I was stoked to get to catch the recent holiday show and even more stoked to find out that this theater had returned to Little Haiti. Located on the corner, it's quite visible and welcoming. The lobby was a bit confusing for ticketing, but we figured it out. There's a small bar in the lobby too. The theater itself holds some tables and plenty of chairs. This night the theater filled up quite a bit so I was glad we got in early to grab a table. There are usually several improv troupes during each performance. This past show was great and hilarious as usual. I'd like to see a bit more of a break between skits, so there's time to get drinks, etc, but overall I love the new setup and look forward to returning to more shows!

Yelp
Bring a sweater: it's freezing cold in there! I had to leave because I couldn't take the cold. Acts were some good some ok some bad. Huge respect for all the actors. Sometimes a little over the top but that's what comedy theater is about?..?! Good experience but won't repeat often.

Louis B.

Yelp
lots of fun. been there for a bunch of different types of shows. always a good time. easy on the budget. easy parking. good food nearby

Yelp
We randomly drove by on a Friday evening and I wanted stop, so we did. I don't regret it at all!! I can't wait to go again and bring friends with us because it was laughter the whole time. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Transformative. That's the word that comes to my mind much of the time when thinking about VT (Villain Theater). I've attended classes and many shows there over the past 11 months. It's not your everyday place. I'm a "veteran" improviser. Started in June 2005 with Carey Kane of Improv Yourself! in Miami. I've continued in either classes or a troupe ever since. What I see at VT has blown me away. I have laughed uncontrollably more times than I can count watching the house teams. The regular ensemble cast are comic supernovas. They make us veterans super-jealous! I've been inspired by (and laughed a lot at) the special event shows VT has hosted such as "A Love Letter to Myself" [http://www.miaminewtimes.com/arts/villain-theater-presents-an-all-female-comedy-show-just-in-time-for-valentines-day-8234321] and No Fear, We're Queer [http://www.nbcmiami.com/on-air/as-seen-on/384289121.html]. As a student, I've raised my 'improv woke' quotient exponentially; the performance style taught here is a focused method that makes it much easier to access the improv magic that I look for when performing and look to share with the audience when I perform. Hopefully, this is all real and not just a case of founders Jeff Quintana and Peter Mir sprinkling magic improv dust on us without our knowledge. It sure feels good though if that's what it is! -M

Yelp
So so talented. Truly a gem hidden in Miami. The area it's in is a little sketch, but there's lots of parking literally right next to the front door. Don't let that stop you from going!
