"Villain's Tavern, Arts District. Located on the corner of Santa Fe and Palmetto, Villain's Tavern is on it's own in terms of neighborhood ambiance. Feeling distinctly like a 19th century apothecary, Villain's decor is dark and moody. Order a drink from their menu, or ask the bartender to whip something up just for you. Bluegrass, Rockabilly and Soul music light up the indoor stage area, depending on the night of the week. Enjoy your drink (or hamburger, if it's a Sunday afternoon) outside by the fire pit under the stars."

"The Los Angeles Arts District neighborhood continues to change rather rapidly, and now here’s a chance to change right along with it. Per a listing with the folks at Urbanlime Real Estate, it seems that the popular Villain’s Tavern is now on the selling block, though it won’t come cheap. While the Urbanlime email that has been spread around doesn’t specifically name Villain’s Tavern outright, it’s not hard to guess at the property with the details provided. The listing is for a 4,600 square foot space with “convenient parking” (Villain’s is basically an island in a parking lot) and a large covered patio, plus a type 48 liquor license for food and booze. The listing also mentions live music and a one-of-a-kind build-out, which is certainly true of the longtime funky bar, which first opened in 2010. When asked, owner Dana Hollister confirmed that Villain’s Tavern was indeed up for grabs, with rent at just over $12,000 a month and $450,000 in starting money. The longtime Eastside and Downtown restaurateur has been slowly selling off several of her properties of late, a consequence of an expensive lawsuit involving Katy Perry (among others) regarding, of all things, a Los Feliz convent property. The chance to own the Villain’s space will likely be too good for some enterprising restaurant and bar lifer to pass up. The property sits on what is now some very desirable land, wedged right in between some of the biggest names in Downtown LA dining, including the hard-to-get-into Bavel not far away. Interested? Contact Urbanlime directly." - Farley Elliott

The place is very small, but welcoming...Just make sure you have the exact amount of cash when you pay the parking, because I made the mistake of not reading and it took my 10.00 and never returned my 3.00. As far as the drinks they are well prepared by the friendly bartenders...The music I really didn't get to appreciate because of so many people talking. The Nachos with meat were the bomb!!! Delicious and enough to serve 3 people. Good place to hang out for chatt and drinks..

Awesome little bar! Crowded for sure, but the atmosphere and outdoor dance floor and seating is definitely worth it. Also top shell drink cant be beat.

Great place to chill with atmospheric lighting and music. Good selection of cocktails and bar food, but it does get packed later in the night. Occasional live music with bands on the main stage inside.

To describe this place its reality meets Water for Elephants - it's a dark circusy 1940's sh themed bar with $2 tacos for taco Tuesday. Very eclectic mix of ppl for all over.

This is a hidden gem. I love the vintage décor and the live bands. The BellaDonna was pretty good and is apparently their most popular drink. What's great is that it's on the outskirts of downtown so you don't have to go through the chaos of downtown LA traffic.

The mixed drinks here is what makes this one of my favorite bars! With an eclectic list of ingredients, you'll be sure to have drinks you may not have ever before. The decor is great and brings a great ambiance for small groups of friends to gather around a board game and drinks. Food tastes great although the selection is a bit limited, it is a bar however so I didn't expect them to have a full menu. Overall a great place to try!

There's much to like about this unique bar. It's got a rustic, aged carnival feel which is reinforced by the big-top canopy enclosed portion of the bar's interior. The drinks are prepared by friendly & knowledgeable bartenders. Excellent spot to listen to live music.
