"“Feels like you’re in France” is a common refrain from visitors to Ville Sainte Bistro in Mount Pleasant. Chef Carole Robert picks traditional dishes from around the country, like frog’s legs, flounder maison, and shrimp provencal." - Erin Perkins, Parker Milner

What an amazing meal! Philippe and Mark will take great care of you. Everything is made from scratch and made to order. Everything was outstanding from the apps to the entrée to the dessert. Great selection of French wines as well as bourbon!

Amazing meal! We started with a cheese board which was beautiful with great cheeses and accouterments. My husband had the pork chop and I had a lamb sausage dish. You can tell they cook with love and authenticity. Perfect choice for my birthday!

Good food but a bit overpriced. Chef was friendly but the server was a little condescending when I wasn’t familiar with their rules of ordering. Also, the group single check pay policy made a lovely group dinner very awkward at the end. Drinks made up a good chunk of the bill but not all of us were drinking…not fun to try and split the check and Venmo each other. Just awkward and won’t be going back just because of that.

This was the first place I tried when I was looking for Valentine's Day reservations and I lucked out getting bar seats. Wife was a bit put off at first when she saw the big screen tv replaying AFC championship and Super Bowl but after we got seated and had the food it was all forgiven. We were adventurous and tried the escargot, was not what I expected in a good way. Our servers were very attentive and made the night very special. It was a longer evening than we anticipated but well worth it!

I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. The food is fantastic and the owners are great people. Service is fantastic with great attention to detail. The food is quality and delicious. We enjoyed shrimp provencal, mont D’or cheese, and chocolate mousse. Thankful for an enjoyable evening and wonderful food.

Google
The food was so mushy and overly salted. It feels so mean writing this review because the staff was really friendly and attentive minus one waiter. I’ve tried food from nearly every restaurant in this area and Downtown but never in my life have I had to stop eating something, even from home made foods. At this price range I was expecting something that made me want to eat more or at least attempt to finish my food. Once again staff was very nice minus one waiter, my waiters and the bar tender were wonderful.

Google
This place is amazing if you are looking for a special meal. The staff is friendly and will gladly offer suggestions or just make small talk. The bread is indescribable, it is that good. The entrées are seasoned, plated, and portioned to perfection. Each dish is obviously cooked to order and made from fresh ingredients. As fans of French cuisine, we have eaten at most French restaurants in the Charleston area and this is at the top of our list.

This is the first time we have been here and oh.my.God. I cannot say enough good about this restaurant. We had so.much.food. And it was allllll sooooo good! Lobster, french onion soup, poutine, steak, crab cakes….even the french fries and potatoes were just SO GOOD! And the créme brûlée was the best I’ve ever had! If you haven’t been here, you need to go!

Yelp
This is one amazing French Restaurant in the Charleston SC area. The food, the amazing crew, and the dining area makes you feel like you're in Paris. The French wine was right on spot. Every dishes on the menu can not go wrong. They use NO seed oils!!! A plus in my book. They use Olive Oil, real butter and wine in their cooking. I ordered an appetizer which was French Onion Soup. It was the best onion soup I ever put in my mouth. I forgot to take the picture because I was enjoying it so much. I also ordered King Oyster Mushrooms with Risotto, Cherry Demi and Truffle. Smacking good.

Yelp
I returned much later than I realized to the amazing Ville Sainte as it continues to thrive, the dishes are amazing, the service and attention to detail top notch. I'm so glad this family French Restaurant is doing so well. It feels like France in here, due to the decor, aromas and overall ambience. It continues to definitely be a hidden gem, right here in Mt. Pleasant.

Yelp
Going here for the July 14th celebration Was the best idea! They had a live singer who was outstanding and the owner even sang a couple songs! The service here is always outstanding and though they were busy, they did not miss a beat! We over ordered, but were so pleased with everything we ate. We started with the cheese plate and fresh bread which was probably enough for the two of us. The cheeses were flavorful and high quality. The little toasted bread that came with are just right. We then had mussels and shrimp Provençal. They gave a huge portion of mussels. I can't say enough how good everything was! I can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Outstanding ! Hands down best meal I have had in years . Tucked away in an old shopping center : this place is a hidden gem . We are very choosy about date night and this place did not disappoint. There is NO need to go downtown for amazing food . Just head over to Ville . It is an experience. My only regret is that we didn't tell the waitress about our time crunch . We were there from 6:30-8:50 and had to get our kid at 9:00 . I would have loved to have dessert. So I have something to look forward to next time . I will for sure be back .

Yelp
We had not been for a year since we have not gotten to the beach. We returned tonight and it was as good if not better than our last visit. My wife and friends had the Flounder Maison and it was perfect in all aspects with flavor, presentation and food temperature. I had a special of veal. We told it was the Chef's grandmother's family recipe. The veal was very tender with a brown sauce. The surprise was the addition of horseradish into the sauce giving it a lovely flavor in the back of the mouth. Service was attentive.

Yelp
The food was good until the OWNER came to our table to accuse one in our party of 4 of putting his hand in his daughter's face when he asked for ketchup. He was very rude and ruined the dining experience and our appetites from then on. He has had a chance to reconcile the experience but hasn't.

Sharon R.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating here as it has been on our list for quite some time. Doesn't look like much, located in a shopping center and google maps sent us seriously the weirdest way possible. I was so excited since it's softy season and Ville Sainte was one of the first to get them. So, of course I order the soft shell crab and I have to be honest, I was underwhelmed, they saute them, they don't fry them like everyone and it isn't the best preparation. My husband had the crab cakes and they were out of this world! The fondue appetizer was well worth the 25 minute wait and the chevre chaud (warm goat cheese) salad was also good. Service was very good, we were a large party and they were definitely pushed to the limit with us. I will go back and eat off the regular menu - maybe get those crab cakes as they were truly incredible.

Yelp
Interesting but surprised that only half full on a Friday evening. Attentive server, bold menu, nice wine selection.

Yelp
This is such a hole in the wall. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice. There was a rowdy crowd there but I'm sure most nights it's not that loud. Personally, I would've preferred something other than French fries with my steak, especially for the price. We also had the muscles which were decent. The muscles also came with French fries. The wine list was limited as well. They do have a full bar though. The bread was freaking awesome, but luckily the waitress told us that after the first loaf it's not free. So keep that in mind. The staff was amazing. One of the chefs/ owners also came to check on everyone at the end of the evening. Overall it was a good experience and I'd go back.

Ara A.

Yelp
So this was a first on multiple levels, I love French food so I'm always ready to partake. We started with the mussels and it was just ok honestly, the mussels from 39 Rue are way better. On what planet are mussel appetizers $18 slightly overpriced. Go for the shrimp Provençal app instead. Hubby had the duck breast and I had the steak frites, the menu says they come medium rare which tells me you don't have a choice so I just went with it because I'm a med rare girl anyway. Except it wasn't medium rare, the dishes came out medium instead. (Insert eye roll) The French bread was delicious.

Yelp
Fantastic evening and experience at Ville Sainte Bistro. Highly recommend. Everything was so fresh, so rich, yet so light. Amazing French countryside cooking.

Lanny B.

Yelp
One of the better, if not the best, restaurants in Mt. Pleasant. Their entrees are unique and well prepared, the service is always on point, and the ambiance is symbolic of a French cafe. What else can you ask for!!

K D.

Yelp
If you have not tried this hidden gem in Mt Pleasant you are missing out. The service was amazing. Even though we opted to have dinner at the bar we were well attended to with amazing service, suggestions and exquisite food. The wine list was extensive and we were very pleased with the pairings suggested for the dishes we ordered. The French onion soup was divine! This has become a new favorite. Authentic, delicious and memorable.

Yelp
This is the hardest review I have ever written. I wanted to love this place so bad. Service gets beyond five stars. Ms. Wendy is the sweetest ever. The wine was hands down amazing and the shrimp appetizer was spot on. Unfortunately it stopped there. French onion soup was flat. I had to add salt to eat it. Escargot tasted of herbs and not that amazing garlicky taste you want. The crab cakes, which we went there for, were fishy, not fresh tasting. So much potential. We did not complain because it was edible. I am not giving up on them and you should not either. First impression was not great however it could be great.

Yelp
I am a lover of Ville Sainte Bistro's food, owners staff and customers. Jared is an amazing chef, love his crab cakes. Once or twice a week I eat here. I love the family feel, all ages and regulars. I am British, Carole the chef is French, Mark her husband is Mark and quite a character. Philippe is a partner and keeps things running smoothly. Family. Brigitte is amazing as a server. Food is great. My favorites are the French onion soup, muscles, duck and the Dauphinoise, delicious. I am particularly happy when they crisp the cheese. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Disappointing - wish I would have noticed the low health department score before I ate here. Ouch. Service was friendly, although a bit slow, which did cause a problem. Escargot and French Onion soup was outstanding, served with ordinary French bread. Wines are all French with a generous markup. Nothing special. I ordered flounder, which should be local and therefore fresh, but was bad and many bites very fishy. There weren't many people in the restaurant - perhaps it sat in the refrigerator for a few days. No one checked on us for a long time, so I just ate some of it. When the server checked back, I informed her of the problem, but it was too late - I am not going to make my whole party wait on me. No apology, no accommodation. Server talked to someone (chef?, manager?, owner?) but they didn't choose to talk to our table. For a city like Charleston with numerous outstanding restaurants, you can find better options.

Yelp
All I can say is WOW! This restaurant exceeded my expectations from the moment we were seated. The flavors, the attention to detail, and the friendly atmosphere provided by Phil and his staff are second to none. The crab cakes and steak were beyond delicious and the créme brûlée was absolutely fantastic. We will definitely be back!!!

Richard F.

Yelp
Food was very well prepared, well presented and delicious. Menu is varied enough to meet most palates. A couple items can be made gluten free - ask. Service was properly attentive - thank you. Portion sizes are good. Appetizers/ first courses are a good size to serve as a meal - we split our awesome pear salad and each had an entree and it was a lot. Wine pour is generous. Prices are north but this was a nice experience with food to match.

Erin W.

Yelp
This was our French Onion soup. It was all oil and I did not find one piece of onion in it. Look at the rim of the container, that's a ring of nothing but oil. This is what was under the bread. $27 for two bowls if French Onion soup to go. Received a small load of bread, something you would find at a sub sandwich place. Had no flavor. Definitely not a French bread or baguette. Two thumbs down. Grossest soup I've ever had. Took two bites and we were done. Unfortunately we ordered this to go. Definitely would not recommend this over piece restaurant. Food was disgusting.

Yelp
Excellent spot! Charming restaurant in a strip mall. We sat@ bar - service was fantastic. Yummy escargot and the best bread - hot and fresh. Steak frites were reminiscent of Paris. Will certainly be going back. Hopefully. Bone marrow special will still be available.

Matt G.

Yelp
Had a great happy hour meal with my bride, but was very troubled to see unapologetically mask less staff. We will not be back.

Nancy K.

Yelp
We recently dined here for the first time and it certainly will not be the last time. I love the small menu. Difficult to choose what to order because it all was appealing. Traditional escargot was perfect. Duck breast & roasted potatoes were wonderful. They have a lovely wine list. Topped off our meal with cream brûlée!

Connie W.

Yelp
Love dining here, good food, friendly staff and always something new. Stopped in with friends last night and tried the oyster appetizer special...it was amazing! Thanks again for such a lovely meal...superb experience

Chris M.

Yelp
Every entree on the menu had green beans and potatoes. The items were incredibly overpriced for what you get. We will not be going back :(

W K.

Yelp
Was back home in CHS for the week visiting my family and apparently my parents have become regulars at Ville Sainte. Well I was very impressed. Great escargot and this tomato cucumber feta salad was incredible - definitely the star of my dinner. Everything I tried was great though. Can't wait to go back!

Renee B.

Yelp
Had the special tonight which was the Mahi Mahi. Excellent taste. Service was superb. Would highly recommend this location

Taryn M.

Yelp
By far the most legit, authentic Maryland crab cake that I have had in 12 years of living in Charleston!!! Amazing food and service. We will definitely be back!

Greg E.

Yelp
The best French cuisine I have had in a while. The duck was perfect. The staff was attentive with the best wine pairings. Take my word for it. Tell them what you want to eat and let them pick the wine. The chef is absolutely incredible and personable. She loves her patrons and it shows in the dishes she sends out of the kitchen. This place is a must try!

True North J.

Yelp
This probably is my favorite french restaurant in the greater Charleston area. Ville Sainte has an impressive menu with a diversity of offerings, and each item that we ordered was uniquely flavorful. That they are farm-to-table just adds to the overall appeal.

Christian D.

Yelp
While the entire meal was incredible, without question The best mussels I've ever had. Not just the preparation but the actual mussels themselves. Plump, juicy and perfectly cooked; I can't stop thinking about them. Pro tip: take the croque madame home and have it for brunch the next day. Wow! Can't wait to come back!

Lauren H.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The cheese plate and mussels were outstanding! Hopefully the service will improve once they are open longer and have better flow.

Laurie S.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal here! Clearly there is much personal attention to the preparation of the dishes. High quality ingredients throughout this fresh, farm to table menu. We enjoyed the Coq au Vin and the pork tenderloin, along with an amazing pear tart for dessert, but it is clear that whatever dishes are on the menu each night are going to be outstanding.
