Outstanding. The Borani Banjan was so good that I am now going to learn to make it! Had the kebab combo platter. Rice was flavoursome, and the chicken tender…not dry at all. Surprised this place is not busier but probably because the store front is a little hidden. Well worth a visit or takeout.

Google
Their chicken kebabs were legitimately the best I've ever had. They were so fresh, and I have never had softer, juicer chicken in my life. The chicken was very flavorful as well, the marinade was strong--the color went all the way through the chicken. The only thing I would note is the chicken was a bit salty, but otherwise truly perfect! Will definitely make these a regular part of my rotation :)

Came with 7 people based on the reviews. Very satisfied with the food quality and quantity. Very authentic and delicious Be prepared to wait for the food as the made if from scratch and that is why is delicious

Google
What a great find. We brought 12 people here and had a fantastic experience. The food was amazing. We did family style and tried a little bit of everything. I particularly enjoyed the eggplant - just excellent with the bread. The falafel was excellent, and my fellow diners enjoyed the kebabs quite a lot. The poor guy working that night was the only one - but he was excellent. A gracious host for sure. We did BYOB and that worked out just fine. Give this place a shot. This is the kind of business you root for.

Google
A little pricey but the portion sizes are quite generous! The food is delicious, especially the dumpling appetizer. The staff are super kind and the restaurant has a ton of seating! Would definitely come here again!

Our dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the savory lamp platter and succulent lamb shanks to the refreshing salad and heavenly baklava, every dish surpassed perfection. A culinary delight that left us wanting more. Highly recommended!

Google
Looking for a quick and reasonably priced meal? This is a solid option! I had the Chicken and Lamb Combo dish. For about 12 bucks, the portions were great (though I wish there were more veggies), and the food was pretty good! The mix of white and hot sauces was great in bringing the flavors out of the meats. The dish is a little salty, though, so I'd be mindful of that. The service was fine enough, and I'm glad the food came out pretty quickly. It was also strangely quiet despite us visiting around dinner time on a weekday, but I'll take too quiet over too loud! The dining experience itself was also pretty basic (no placemats, small water glasses, minimal contact from waiter), but since the prices were so low, I'm not complaining. Overall, I'd come back if I needed a quick dinner.

Google
I came in with a friend on a Wednesday evening from 5-7. It was very empty and quiet for dinnertime, no other customers came in the restaurant during that time. The food was tasty and wasn't too expensive, which was great, but I was not wowed by the flavor of the food or the quality of the ingredients. The service was good and the waiters were nice but the ambiance was slightly off. I did see some roaches in the bathroom, which was unfortunate.

Yelp
empty on a monday night, you order online w/ your phone and the service is good, but not super attentive. this is not necessary bc u are there for GOOD food and great portions. somehow that energy helped me have one of the juiciest convos i've had in a while knocked a star off bc there really isn't any support during the meal and it took a while for the food to come out, plus the final price after tax and tip was $32/pp which was a bit pricier than expected got a kabob (chicken for one and lamb for the other) platter each and we cleared it easy
google avatar

Yelp
I had a really great experience Staff attentive. 5/5 Ambience is clean, new, modern,, well lit. Food was delicious! Combo platter was flavorful and tasty. One of the meats was a little oddly spongy and not my favorite texture, but otherwise everything was delicious. The sauce is complemented the meal well. Not cheap, but was worth it. Would return more frequently if not for the price. Would love to come back and try more items

Yelp
I'm not quite sure how we found this place, but it has been worked into our regular rotation for lunch. It provides a chill atmosphere and some very taste food. While they are usually lightly staffed when we come, the staff is always on point, friendly, and willing to help with selections. My go to has been their platters. You get plenty of protein, a heavy salad, and some amazing rice. I mean, I do not usually get to into rice, but their is great. One of the staff recommended this non-alcoholic beers they had it various flavors which I'm sort of hooked on. I can't remember the brand but I usually go Apple or Strawberry. Their Chai is also very good if you are in a tea mood. Overall, a clear recommend in my book. Enjoy!

Yelp
This is a Kebab restaurant in Philly. It has modern vibes - not really a hole in the wall vibe. It feels upscale but still small. I got some platters and I really enjoyed it. Each table has three sauces. There is the white sauce, and a red and green sauce. The white sauce is good - like a mix between ranch and tzitzaki. The green sauce is minty, and the red one is spicy. I was really happy with the lamb. It was very tender and flavorful. It also came hot out of the grill. It didn't have a "strong" lamb flavor and was slightly smoky. The rice was super fragrant. I think it had a lot of butter or oil so it felt moist, and the carrots/raisons inside were a nice touch. The food went really well with the three sauces. There was also a good cardamom flavor inside. The food came with a ciabatta-like fried bread. I recommend this restaurant

Yelp
I have no words but to say zooo weee maaamaa. If I may speak a bit in genz-z, this would was not ohio, striaght up bussin from every aspect. The owner and employees were nice and friendly. The chai there had just the right amount of sugar and milk with a memorable aroma. I was filled and sad I couldn't eat even more.

Yelp
I came here for lunch on a weekday and it was not too busy. I was immediately greeted by the worker who sat my wife and I, the proceeded to bring us a menu on their iPad. They did have a QR menu to scan in case you wanted to look on your own devices. We ordered the Combination Villakebab and Munto Dumplings (Beef) to share. After a short wait, the owner brought out a salad for us. I believe this was included with the Combination Villakebab that we ordered. The vegetables tasted fresh and the sauce was flavorful. Shortly, the chef himself brought out the Munto Dumplings. We got the beef. I had Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dumplings before but never Afghan dumplings. They tasted different but nonetheless delicious. They have a sauce put on top that resembles some form of chickpeas. The Combination Villakebab plate that came later was amazing! Very juicy kebab meats! They brought some sauces for us. I really enjoyed the spicy sauce, but all were very pleasant. I felt very welcomed at this restaurant as the owner was very attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
What a hidden secret. These are the best kebabs in the city. How is this spot not more well known?! Go go go before more folks find out
google avatar

Esmahan A.

Yelp
The chicken and rice was really flavorful here. I love the atmosphere it's spacious and clean. The service was really good and I was happy. They did have french fries for a little kids. My kids are very picky with their rice but they truly enjoyed it.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was so tasty!! The food was warm, delicious and reasonable. The owner was informative and friendly, with quick service. I got the beef dumplings at his suggestion: the dumplings were tender, the meat was a mix of beef with herbs, and served with lentils and a lentil sauce (I think) over a white sauce base. The chicken was red from spices, cooked prior to serving on kebabs, served on a bed of long grain rice with raisins & carrots, and served with three sauces: 1) white is yogurt?/mayo/sour cream with herbs, 2) green is cilantro/jalapeno & 3) the red is a habanero. They are all very tasty! Afghan (I assume) music is playing and it is generally an open room for dining. This is a convenient quick walk from the Hotel Palomar. I also got a chai to go. I paid $47.93 including a 20+% tip - reasonably priced!

Yelp
When arriving at this restaurant, you are quickly seated. We sat at a table of four in the center of the establishment which was nice because we could see the chef cooking meals in the back. We did notice not many people working, so the food and service was a bit on the slower end. The food was amazing; my friends and I each got a mixed plate and this dumpling-like dish to share. The flavors of the plate were amazing and paired well together. The portion is quite large, so it will definitely fill you up or you'll have a second meal saved for another day. It reminded me of halal guys to some extent but the flavors were more refined. The sauces elevated the overall dish; they are not immediately found at your table, so you will need to request it from the server. Dumpling-like dish was tasty. The filling was a beef filling and was juicy. The chickpea curry was a great touch to round out the saltiness of the filling. Would recommend trying this appetizer if you are willing to spend a couple extra dollars.
google avatar

Sophie W.

Yelp
Excellent portion sizes for the price! I was stuffed after half of my mixed platter and the rest was enough for a full lunch the next day. I love how flavorful the rice is (though it is pretty oily).

Yelp
I've been here several times and I always enjoy the food. It's so fragrant delicious and welcoming. The ambience was phenomenal for my birthday lunch. The staff took good care of me and my spouse will definitely be coming back for more.

Yelp
This place is amazing, it's clean, food delicious and fresh and great service. Been here twice and had the lamb shank special. Both times out of this world. Fresh and perfectly cooked. Seriously my work takes me all over Philly. This has to be one of the best places I've been to.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
We had two lamb shanks and one combo platter (chicken + lamb) and they were both amazing! The lamb shank with the rice with sweet potato is delicious and the meat simply falls off the bone. Delicious! The combo platter is a cheaper option and it has lamb (think gyro slices of meat) and chicken. You can also add on sauce onto your plate. It's a sit down restaurant and may take a little time for your order, but it's worth it! Giving this place five stars!

Yelp
First time trying Afghanistan food! The flavoring is so unique, not like anything I've tasted before. We ordered the - Munto dumplings: amazing, highly recommend - Borani Banjan: amazing but very little for the $$ - Lamb Kabob: delicious, meat was so juicy Everything was so flavorful I enjoyed every dish. We ordered take out but the interior design of this place is pretty classy. I was surprised since my first impression was this is a fast casual kebab place. Afghanistan kebab is so different. The rice platter came with pickled carrots and raisins which adds a nice hint of sweetness to the savory dish. He provided a green sauce and a white sauce which paired really well with the food. I would definitely come back again to try different items and get the munto dumplings again! I'm also obsessed with their seasoning for the kebabs. The reason for 4 star is this place is a bit overpriced for the quantity you're getting. Also I was supposed to get a side salad with my lamb kebab platter but they forgot. (Oh well) However the owner is so friendly I would love to continue to come support his business. Tip: don't forget to ask for their special sauce! The white sauce he gave me was delicious
google avatar

Moo L.

Yelp
Omfg the chicken and lamb were so tender fr fr 10/10. The sauce was great but not spicey enough so I asked for more hot sauce and they quickly brought me an assortment! The greatest part of dinner however was the app. The hummus was so fresh and the olive were AMAZINGGGGG. Also idk what they put in their yogurt dip but u get this numbing sensation immediately that reminded me of Szechuan spice ??? SO COOL !!!!! Falafel will haunt my dreams in the best way possible. Well deserving of their 5/5 rating. Atmosphere wise, very clean. Only a few tables for larger parties but the host was very accommodating. Alsooooooo Some of the best bang for your buck I've found in philly for quality food. *chefs kiss*

Yelp
I came to Rittenhouse Sq recently. I happened to park across the street from here. One of my favorite foods to eat is kebab. So this tempted me in a big way. I had to try it for lunch. One thing that surprised me was the decor. Outside it looks very basic which I actually like. But inside it looks a little more trendy and flashy. It's the best of both worlds. The service was very friendly and attentive. I have to give them props there. I like the family atmosphere and they have that going for them. But what matters in the end is the food. And everything from flavor to freshness to presentation to portion size was absolutely top notch. I've had a couple of other Afghan places in the city and this is as good as any of them.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Excellent food and very friendly service. We were staying at a nearby hotel for the weekend and just wanted a healthy take out meal. Very friendly staff. We ordered borani banjan, chicken gyro sandwich and falafel platter. Everything was tasty, fresh and well seasoned. HIGHLY recommend for takeout!
google avatar

Julian U.

Yelp
Gave Villekebabs a try for takeout and found it to be a quality meal. Had the chicken kebab platter. Chicken was delectable, super moist and flavorful, really enjoyed every piece. Would have liked there to be a bit more chicken relative to rice in the platter - felt the meal was a bit too heavy on the rice. I like the afghan rice as well, with its flavorful accompaniments and sauces. Salad was very simple, could have also been a bit larger. Overall really quality food / takeout option, but could have gotten a bit more value-wise for the chicken platter.

Yelp
Praise Jesus these beautiful friends moved to America and bought their INCREDIBLE cuisine with them . I'm not even kidding when I say this was by FAR above and beyond ANY middle eastern food I've ever had before in my life . Hell this is some of the best food I've had anywhere in the world and definitely my favorite simple fare . Best meal in a very long time . For starters , though I've had my fair share of "middle eastern " (it's such a pity to kobble this into that catch all phrase . AFGHANI food ....is totally different flavor profile than I'm used to . It's like a celebration in your mouth . The SAUCES! The succulent meats like nothing I've ever tasted before , the rice with carrots --CARROTS and raisins ( I don't even like either ) Oh my GAWD . Seriously , why aren't you here NOW? Please please please , patronize these beautiful people so they stay open as a small business . Such a pleasant surprise atmosphere too ! Service is excellent and please remember perfection takes TIME and can't be rushed . They are doing EVERYTHING themselves ...waiting tables , cooking ...be patient and you won't regret it . Had dumplings --again so unique and like nothing I've ever tasted . Grilled platter. Lamb not gamey at all like some lamb . Chicken clean breast cut , kefta superb . 20 out of 10!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is ONLY a review of the falafel sandwiches, because that's all we ordered for delivery. They were dry and bland even after adding salt. The pita was falling apart and bland. The sauce was bland. The chopped dill pickles overpowered what little other flavor there was. Maybe they had an off night, maybe the other dishes are good, but I wouldn't try it again.
google avatar

Miles A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food here and a very good price as well. Friendly people and a nice setting inside. Gyro and kebab are delicious and good size. Platters very tasty with big portion. Nice for BYOB as well. Thanks

Yelp
Sooo good!! Got hummus- it was yummy and chicken platter the first bite made me go mmmm. Husband liked his lamb gyro. "It was good." (He's a man of few words.) We got a lamb and chicken platter and a combo gyro for two teens that stayed home and they ate it all.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
An excellent gyro. Loaded with juicy and tender lamb and fresh vegetable toppings. I really like that you can order from phone. I think more places should do this.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
We went in around 6:30 on a Friday evening. We were the only people there which had us wondering what was going on. The server was attentive but couldn't seem to keep our order straight which he corrected with no fuss. We got our drinks at different times and then our food as well which was a bit awkward. They said they were out of falafel so I got a chicken gyro and my husband got a lamb gyro. Both were excellent. I would definitely get food there again.

Yelp
A casual, yet nice restaurant for Afghan food. Came in around noon on a Sunday, and was so impressed with the portion sizes, flavor, and speed of service! Highly recommend this spot! Atmosphere: Well lit and clean, with indoor seating on the first floor for about 15-20 people. They seemed to have an upstairs level too. Food came out in total 15 minutes, though we were the only customers in the store at the time. Cashier / cook was very friendly and attentive! Food: The yogurt appetizer we got was delicious - the spices paired very well with the yogurt, and tasted great with the pita they offered. We ordered their lamb platter, which came with a lot of meat, salad, sauce and rice. We kept talking about how we would love to learn how to make this combination on our own because we could've eaten this all week! All the food was very flavorful and filling! Overall: 5/5 - Honestly surprised I never stopped by here before, and will certainly be back. Such an easy place to grab takeout or a quick, delicious meal.

Yelp
The fact that I cannot pronounce their name "villekebabs" properly, their food is next level and service is fantastic. Felt a part of their family and will definitely go back. Chicken Villekebab platter....muah!

Lisa J.

Yelp
Delicious Afghani food from an unassuming restaurant on Sansom St. Had the chicken & beef kofta kebabs, Afghani salad, pita bread & hummus, & baklava for a birthday dinner. The pita bread was warm, & the hummus flavorful with olives & chickpea oil. Spooning the salad, which was amply moist from the cucumber juices, with hummus onto the pita, would have made for a light meal in & of itself. The chicken kebabs & rice was the best I'd had in a long time. The raisins & (sweetened?) carrots in the rice was a welcome flavor alongside the tender & savory boneless chicken chunks. Two sauces - a red & a green, gave even more kick. The red, especially, had a pickled taste. The beef kofta was also as top notch as the chicken. For dessert - 3 squares of baklava with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream moistened the baklava in addition to its usual syrup. Best baklava that I've had in awhile, & definitely not the dense/heavy kind from some of the local pizza places. Black tea & pomegranate nectar juice - refreshing. John, who waited on us, was professional, & appreciated that we'd come to Villekababs for dinner. We'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
So good! Friendly staff and excellent food. It is cozy and bright, casual but would be fun for a special event. Will be coming back.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem and the best new food I've tried in Philly in 2021! Seriously, if you don't try it you're making a terrible life choice. This is amongst THE best tasting food you'll come across, period. For those not familiar, Afghan kebabs are like Persian, Turkish, or Greek kebabs on crack. The flavor profile blows all of them outta the water. Get the chicken and thank me later. The meat is also way more tender than other types of kebabs bc of the marinade they use. Couple it with the accompanying mildly spicy green sauce and the amazing garlic yogurt sauce and you will find yourself in heaven. I'm fortunate to have lived all over and the flavors here rival those of the very best Afghan kebabs I've had in the Bay Area. 10/10 you don't love yourself and your tastebuds if this spot doesn't join the monthly food rotation. The guy running it does everything, so cut him some slack as he shuttles between the kitchen and service. It's a little hidden, tucked in nextdoor to a new Chinese spot so keep your eyes open. Brand new spot so leave this guy reviews so we can keep enjoying this new gem
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
Saw this place on Yelp and I love chicken and rice and hummus so I wanted to give it a try. It's easy to miss when walking down the block. I had to come back down the block and check the building numbers, but I'm glad I made it here. I got the chicken and rice platter and the hummus appetizer. The chicken and rice was really flavorful and had sautéed onions in the chicken that elevated the dish. The hummus was delish with a little spicy kick and good olive oil drizzled over top. It came with two pita pieces (making a whole circle pita total). It was just enough to finish the hummus with. The guy working there was also really nice. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try other dishes.
google avatar

Ted T.

Yelp
Great food service by John and Marina. The food was amazing and certainly worth a trip if you are seeking some good Afghan food. We had the Munto (dumplings), Borani Banjan (eggplant) and Dahl (so good, we ordered a second order). The pita bread, and side spice trio, was very tasty and fresh as well.
google avatar

Madeline H.

Yelp
Food here is delicious and reliable, the perfect combination! Definitely a go-to spot in Rittenhouse for lunch & dinner.
google avatar

Amer H.

Yelp
Awesome food. We had a bunch of appetisers. They were all on the money except the yogurt dip was just yogurt out of a container decorate by sliced cucumbers. Main dishes including grilled meat were delicious, My wife thought her meat was a bit spicy but I didn't have any issue with mine. Service was fine. Place is very casual. All in all we enjoyed the food, the workers including the sever were so friendly and attentive. We'll definitely go back.

Tabish T.

Yelp
Excellent Food, excellent service! Great family owned restaurant. Nice clean neat place.

Yelp
Best halal in Philadelphia staff is very welcoming and really nice when you do adjustments on food

Yelp
A new favorite in center city Philadelphia. Looking for a place near an evening engagement, my husband found this place through Groupon. It was only a small discount but he cross referenced with Yelp and found these great reviews. Per the owner, this place opened five months ago which is brave in these pandemic times. It's a nice looking restaurant with modern decor and candles on the tables. It's set up to be a fusion of sit down and takeout. I don't know why it wasn't busier bc this is real deal family owned and operated BYOB Afgani cuisine . We share two apps (a flaky potato something and a well seasoned meat dumpling which I'll dream about) and the mixed kebob dinner of lamb, chicken and ground beef and which came with rice with shredded carrots and raisins. The owner was friendly. Food portions were plentiful and service was prompt. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Hasan A.

Yelp
We have had food here twice . On the outside is unreflective of the inside. The interior is beautifully designed over 2 floors with ample space. Now for the food, the bolani banjan is a must in the appetizers. All the kebabs are great but the Chapli Kebabs are a must, very authentic taste. We also ordered a pot of tea for the table (4 of us) All in all worth the time and money Thank you and we will visit again Hasan

T K.

Yelp
Combo lamb and chicken gyro, pita was excellent. Beef burger with Afghani seasoning fries, coke both meals for $26. And it was delicious! Restaurant is directly across the street from Sofitel's restaurant, who wanted $30.00 for burger, fries and coke, plus 29% service fee, plus 5.00 delivery fee ... so 44.00 per person? 88.00 for burgers for 2, when an elevator ride is $26. And a damn good burger too. We will be back.
google avatar

Gaz H.

Yelp
Not a foot wrong. Its a bit new and the service is a bit awkward, but these guys do the business, food wise. The interior space is new and tries to be funky. Roasted eggplant thing was memorable and everything was vwry good. Give it a try. A worthy addition to the food landscape.
google avatar

Harman A.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. We've ordered takeout and sat down for a meal at the restaurant and each time the food was so good. The best tasting Gyro in the neighborhood for sure. And the falafel is great. The munto and the kebab platters were also other highlights from our multiple orders.
google avatar

Ahmed E.

Yelp
A great unassuming place to eat. We got combo kebabs and combo platter. Both were great. The kebabs are not only delicious, but also very succulent and melts in your mouth. The platter with the sauces were also delicious.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. Had the hummus, chicken gyro platter, and the lamb gyro sandwich. All were absolutely amazing. The servers were all very nice. Highly recommend

Anna K.

Yelp
I live near here, but wouldn't have noticed it because the outside is very subtle! My boss was going here often and ordering for us, and several times I had the chickpeas and their mixed appetizer platter! So very good! I have moved on from jobs since, but still only live several blocks away, and was just craving their food today and decided to look at their yelp listing. I had NO idea how cute the inside of their restaurant was. I was assuming it was a takeout restaurant, based solely on the the takeout menu and website. In conclusion, they have lovely food and a great location and a very cute interior! I think they could benefit from a chalkboard outside, and perhaps a website (optimize your mobile website) update! A little modernization? Great interior and food, but I think some advertising and branding could really help! :)
google avatar

Chanel N.

Yelp
No Sunday scaries here! Talk about beautifully spiced Afghani food. Great portions and the flavors pair perfectly with each course. I ordered the Bolani for an app which is a must at every Afghan spot. It normally comes out on the soft/soggy side at other restaurants, but here it was very crispy, nothing like I've had in the past. I also ordered the chicken kabab platter, which I smothered with their trio of sauces. I could write a review alone on their homemade dips. Literally mouthwatering. Only regret is not asking if they sell the sauces for taking home; it is truly like icing on a cake! Happy to see they were also on Grubhub because this spot will definitely be devoured weekly.

David H.

Yelp
Phenomenal gyro and hummus. Very nice staff. Will not hesitate to return whenever I am in Philadelphia.
google avatar

Jianbo N.

Yelp
The food quality is superb and the service is wonderful. Price is reasonable, actually pretty cheap, considering the location and what we got. Definitely going back
google avatar

Emily Z.

Yelp
We were craving Afghani food this week and read about this place on reddit, and they did not disappoint! We got the lamb kebabs and combo platter which were both delicious. The kebabs were tender and juicy and the rice was the best I've had in a long time. On top of that, the folks there are welcoming and kind and provided great service. Another plus side is that you don't have to break the bank for a hearty meal, and the atmosphere is warm and brightly lit. More people need to know about this place!

Yelp
Oregonians visiting. This place in in the center city . We had lamb kebab , munto dumplings, lamb gyro and freshly made baklava with ice cream. Everything tasted good. Add your choice of the good tasting sauces they bring to your table. Overall review on this place deserves 5 stars... its worth going back and I would like to try the other dishes on the menu.
