Sample Craft Spirits at These 13 Portland-Area Distilleries

"It’s a trek from Portland proper, but visiting this Wilsonville-based, family-owned distillery is worth the miles. The Ly family possess quite the lineage when it comes to distilling alcohol. With ties to both Vietnam and China, they’ve been producing spirits from family recipes for over seven generations, responsible for the first rice vodka and rice whiskey produced and bottled in the U.S. But Vinn is perhaps best known for its baijiu, a high-proof rice-based clear spirit with subtle toasty cereal notes. As a small family-run business, Vinn has no set hours but is typically open most afternoons — call to set up a tour or tasting." - Adam Sawyer, Nathan Williams

I was in the area visiting a few distilleries off of my Distillery Row passport and decided we should also visit Vinn. At this point, we were all feeling our previous tastings and were a little rowdy. This however made it very fun, and Greg made it even more fun by cracking jokes and laughing with us. The tasting was amazing! I have never really had good rice-based spirits and this was a great way to be introduced to very good ones. My favorite by far was their seasonal Honey Baijiu. it was very warming and perfect for this cold weather. It was also the first time I've had a bloody mary and Vinn did not disappoint, so much so that I bought a bottle of their mix. I will definitely go back and bring more people with me. It was an amazing, fun experience with amazing tasting spirits.

It's not your typical vodka or sake but something new to try if you never had rice based spirits. I think my favorite was the honey flavor. Their cocktails are excellent. Fun place to take out of town guests.

Vicky and Michelle were the best hosts. They were kind enough to allow us to do a private tasting at the distillery. All of their spirits are top-notch. Honored to be able to purchase a rice based whisky to share with others.

I've been to the Vinn tasting room in Portland as part of the Distillery Row tour with a Passport three times now. I love going back and sharing the experience with people who haven't done it before. My favorite to share is Vinn, because it's so unique. I love their story - how this distillery is a Chinese family business and started so small, and the father enlisted his whole family to help him. They still make rice in regular sized rice cookers, en masse! So much work! Everything they make is interesting, tasty and unique. I really like the cocktails they make, which really bring the liquors to a new level.

It was great to hear the history of the family and business. The spirits were top notch as well as our service. I purchased the Bloody Mary kit to take back to Illinois. If I’m able, I will go back. I will recommend vinn to my friends. Thanks!

First of all, while most of their facilities are located in Wilsonville, their tasting room is at 833 SE Main St. Ste 125 Portland, OR 97214 in a little storage unit. It is nicely setup, and actually has bar stools if you want to take a load off during the Distillery row tour. Their products are variants of Baijius, even the Vodka produced with rice. The taste is slightly sweeter than the typical vodka, which helps smooth out the flavor. I prefer most of their stuff neat, but I would recommend anything they produce to help mellow out a traditional cocktail. Last note, the Bloody Mary mix they stock is many kinds of amazing.

Cool concept and experience in Portland. While the spirits were not our favorite the atmosphere is nice, drinks interesting, and people friendly - definitely worth checking out especially if visiting other distilleries in the area!

So, we always try to find new things via Groupon and then establish a supportive customer relationship. It has led us to a number of wonderful places and products. This particular place (Vinn) was an offer we got excited about. Until they pulled out and left us with nothing but a refund. Considering it was an employee appreciation gift...that did very little for us. We WILL NOT be trying them, nor becoming a loyal customer.

Yelp
I've had the pleasure of visiting this distillery for a private tour. Walking in you see rows of baijiu fermenting, each being taking care of by their master distiller to ensure the quality of their product is the best you can get. Coming in here the distillery looks very simple, but then if you've been to enough distilleries they aren't about the frills and it's all about knocking out the best product they know how. i love their product and what they're doing and i look forward in seeing them grow as the popularity of this liquor grows.

Yelp
If you're reading a review, you are considering going. Do! Staff extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Products are fantastic. this is the only company in America that makes and Bottles their own by Baiju (Bye-Joe). I have never had anything like it. It is a gold medal-winning whiskey. All their Liquors are gluten free , vodka whiskey baiju all fantastic! Look for their Groupon.

Yelp
We went to the tasting room as part of the distillery row passport experience, and it was definitely the highlight of the tour. All of the spirits are distilled and fermented from rice - I could never have imagined that the single ingredient Mijiu (Rice Wine) could have so much complexity in flavor. This is a family owned business, and if you get to talk to one of the siblings behind the bar they will tell you the fascinating story behind their parent's drink recipes and the story of how the distillery started in Wilsonville. And hey, Portlanders - the best part is these beverages are all 100% gluten-free for your food-allergy convenience!

Yelp
Stopped in the tasting room after a day of beer tastings. Needed to change it up a bit :) I loved the atmosphere, the ladies were really nice and knowledgable of their stuff. I love the white rice wine--it was sweet and would be really good after dinner with dessert. The vodka was pretty potent and I'm not usually one to drink liquor straight. The second vodka or as she called it "white whiskey" was even stronger. They did make us a nice refreshing mixed drink with the first vodka, which was delicious. It'll be fun to see this vodka in stores and remember the story behind it.
