Our first day in Asheville and we're driving around trying to get the lay of the land. Traffic is crazy, something I really didn't expect, but it was rush hour.
My wife was the first to point out Vinnie's, and I said we should try it for dinner figuring we'd be nowhere near the place at that time.
Well, it appears that our hotel was less than three miles from there, so dinnertime had as at their doorstep.
The ambience is crazy! It's just like a loud Italian house, but the decibels were manageable.
We were seated at a cozy table in back, and I splurged on an Old Fashioned. It was perfect, so my expectations for the meal were set.
I am a linguine and clams in white sauce fanatic, so when I saw it listed on the menu I was set.
The server notified me that they were out of fresh clams, and that told me a lot about the place. No, not that they were out of something, but that they used real clams.
But she told me that the special of the evening was lobster ravioli hand made in house. And it was topped with claw meat.
I had to apologize that I drooled on the tablecloth. That was going to be my dish.
I had to cool it on the bread service, which was almost impossible to do, but it paid off.
The lobster lived up to the build up. It was absolutely delicious.
We were so stuffed we took the tiramisu to go. It was the perfect midnight snack.
We were in Asheville for three nights, and each remaining night we thought of returning to Vinnie's. Alas, we wanted to experience more of the city's offerings, so Vinnie's will have to wait until our next visit.
