Arrived for dinner and waiting some time to be seated even though it was less than half full. The restaurant is located in the back half of a store so it tries to have an Old World feel. Humble and cimfortable. The waiter was good about taking our beverage orders. He brought out bread which was excellent. We started with an antepasto and it looked like a confused chef's salad. Next up was the chicken parm. Good size piece of chicken cooked to perfection. The sauce was small pieces of tomato and well balanced. For dessert, order the lemoncello sorbet. Really tart and creamy. Absolutely amazing. I would come here just for the sorbet. I really enjoyed my meal. I'll stare away from the antepasto next time but for a great homemade Italian dinner, Vinny's hit the mark.

This place was the best place that we've ever eaten!! My wife got the salmon pasta (gluten free) and I got the rabbit. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and had great suggestions. Our food and beverages also came out very quickly. My wife also said she would fly into Massachusetts just to eat here 😁

Drove bye was starving so turned around glad I did ❤️❤️❤️ I got a large chicken Parm sub absolutely delicious can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu. ❤️❤️❤️

The food was decent enough though nothing to write home about. The chicken marsala sauce was flavorful but the chicken was tough. The pasta was ok and the bread was delicious. What irked me was they charged $3 extra for the "house pasta " but we were not told of the extra charge in advance. There was also an extra unannounced $4 "food increase charge." I felt scammed. Not going back for sure.

We were the last couple to be sat that evening but the waitress was patient and attentive, even though a little urgency would have been well understood. I got a limoncello martini because I wanted to be fancy, it was great. My wife didn't really like her cosmo it was too sweet but she raved about her salmon over homemade pasta. They didn't have the specific homemade pasta I wanted to try but the radiatore was so good it didn't matter. It was a little expensive, but hey that's life. We also got desserts to go, and boy were they good. I will be coming back to try more desserts and more homemade pasta. Also I got a perfect parking spot right out front that really set the mood for our date night, and afterwards I pulled an illegal U turn to show my wife I can still be the bad boy she fell in love with. I felt like Arthur Fonzerelli. Great time had by all. 5 stars.

We wanted to go back again but found out they don’t server tasting menus any longer. However lot of items seemed familiar and we went ahead. There’s nothing on the menu that I don’t like.

This is a great Italian Restaurant. Hanover St has nothing on Vinnies. The service is great and the food is even better. My favorites are the Seafood Extravaganza and the Veal Chop. The marinara is fantastic. The apps are great too! Little necks with garlic and oil with hot baguette.

Amazing food, classic Italian joint in Somerville! Must have the delicious fresh baked bread and their homemade pastas.

Yelp
One of our favorite places, conveniently located in my son's neighborhood. We started with Arancini always yummy. My son had Chicken Marsala with homemade pasta and raved how delicious it was. I had the Chicken Bracciola, which unfortunately was not great. The sauce and homemade pasta with the spinach and sun-dried tomatoes were amazing, but the chicken was very tough and the prosciutto was like leather. Probably just an off night for that dish. We've enjoyed many wonderful meals here and will definitely be back again.

Yelp
An absolute local favorite Vinny's is a must try! Located on Broadway in Somerville it is your neighborhood go to Italian. Serving Sicilian style staples, you will always leave here full and satisfied. When you walk in you will see their deli where you can order sandwiches to go, but to the right is where you are able to sit down for dinner. Small and intimate seating. The bread is always fresh accompanied with butter or olive oil and grated cheese. My go to is the lamb osso bucco. This dish is considerable in size and so delicious. It is such a homey meal and makes me feel like I am eating my grandma's Italian food. The lamb literally falls off the bone and the vegetables are cooked to perfection. It is covered in this flavorful broth and is also served with garlicy risotto. Do not sleep on the arancini. They are made simple with peas and rice and yet so tasty and the marinara hits just right. Do yourself a favor and stop in when your craving Italian you wont be disappointed.

Yelp
It was to reclaim and redo a past visit because it's been a few years. I think we've definitely before the pandemic. I think it was 2018 was the first and last time I went to this restaurant so there is some memory bear.

Yelp
So good. I don't even love Italian food. So good. I can't see how this place is less than five stars. The homemade pasta is to die for. Even when I was full I couldn't stop eating it. As were the meatballs. Honestly, the bread was the highlight. If I just had bread and butter here it would have been five stars! Amazing amazing bread. And let's talk cannolis. People at my table who don't care for them couldn't say enough good things. These were the best I've had anywhere. As for the place itself, it's pretty small and very local. We had a coworker who grew up here and told us to come. The best recommendation I've gotten in a long time and one I won't forget for a long time.

Yelp
What a gem. A surprisingly serious Italian restaurant in the back and downstairs area of a sub shop / deli. The hand made pasta was served al dente, and the sauces were flavorful and fresh tasting. Nice Italian wine choices, with multiple bottles under $30. Felt comfortable and welcoming as a family of 4 - kids enjoy this place, we saw multiple families. Portions are generous, we took about half of our food home. Service was nice despite apologizing for being understaffed that night. Felt lucky to randomly find this place!

Yelp
There's few words that can describe the vibes here. The place serves rustic Italian-American comfort food with *fine dining level* saucework and cookery, in a setting so casual that it's literally a sub shop. Better than anything in the North End. Prices are reasonable, portioning is generous. I have some leftovers. We came in on a busy Saturday night, and although we didn't make a reservation - there was one table open. In the future, I recommend reservations. Service was friendly and attentive. Place is underrated and deserves to be recognized with the legendary neighborhood spots like Rino's in Eastie or Nappi's in Medford. I'm so looking forward to coming back here. Place is perfection.

Yelp
I love this place. It feels so family centered and local even with all the hype they've been getting. Small spot in the back of an unassuming store front The food is always to die for. The lemon chicken is always my go to but I have branched out with the lasagna and the salmon pasta recently and both were also incredible. Service always makes you feel like you're part of the family.

Yelp
Vinnies has been my favorite restaurant for many years and it has always been amazing I recently had a graduation dinner n my waiter marcellus was very efficient n friendly im aunti donna to the servers n all of thrm are eonderful

Yelp
This place is so great, such an unrated family spot in East Somerville right on the Charlestown line. Services (especially Maria!) is excellent and the portions are huge and they let you take wine to go if you don't finish. Head over to Casey's after for some keno, great Saturday night would do again 10/10

Yelp
i wanted for find a family owned Italian place for supper. I found GOLD ! This place is great, small maybe 8-10 tables. Staff was very friendly. Food was some of the best Italian I've ever had. Bread was actually warm, drinks were large and strong. Food goes with saying, it was Great ... Best cannoli I've ever had ..... Hands Down ..... I've eaten at several place in the North End, never again. If your looking for a good Italian food, drive on through the North End a couple of more miles to Viinny's. You won't be disappointed. Better Food, Better Service, Better Value. Vinny's is my go to place in Boston. I'll visit the place on every trip to Boston for here on.. Wish I could take it back to Alabama with me.

Daniel P.

Yelp
I was there 12/10 with 8 gentlemen the food was excellent but the service was terrible. The restaurant was not very busy and we had to wait for service or request it the 2 waiters never came to table they were busy talking and had to call them. We ordered several bottles of wine and they just opened it and put them on the table. Very disappointed but will return because of the food!

Yelp
We went to Vinnie's again last night. It's been way too long since we were there last. We had the lasagna and the chicken bracciola. The lasagna was superb, better than we had remembered it. Vinnie's lasagna is different than most; it's creamy, meatless, and with the perfect ratio of pasta-to-fillings. Their red sauce is unique; lightly spiced, and very fresh. The chicken bracciola was a bit dry, but tasty. Imho, they should either marinate the chicken longer or tenderize it more. In any case, we ordered it with the freshly made fusilli and it was delicious. The portion sizes at Vinnie's are friggin enormous. Two entrees is enough for 4 people, or for dinner the second night. (We're on a 'plastic diet' and brought our own leftover containers.)
google avatar

Bill D.

Yelp
My wife and I had been hearing about Vinny's for a while. Tonight, we decided to give it a try. We both are very glad we did. It's definitely a different set up. There's a small sub shop in front, and a bunch of tables for dining towards the back. My wife, who is very picky, loved the chicken piccata. I had the chicken parm, which was also delicious. The only slight negative is the parking can be a bit of an issue. I highly recommend Vinny's.
google avatar

Y O.

Yelp
I lived in the north end and Charlestown for over 10 years. This is by far the best Italian restaurant in Boston. Make sure you get the homemade Fusilli or Marfalde pasta.
google avatar

Pete J.

Yelp
Well tonight was not the best night at Vinny's. The service was really poor. The waiter never came back to our table and we were there for almost 2 hours. The food was great as usual except the waiter never brought our salad. It just seemed like the waiter did not care. I think the owners need to check with him to see if he cares enough to work for them.

Kali D.

Yelp
5/5 top notch service. The ambiance, the food, the culture the vibe all top notch. Everytime we go the food is always on point.

Dave S.

Yelp
A recent Sunday eve dinner reservation for our large group of 12 was confirmed on short notice, and the group was grateful! Food, service, drinks all topnotch. Desserts, for those who had a little room left, were also amazing! Serving portions vs price were reasonable too. Highly recommend, our server/waitress, who appeared to be managing the dining room service singlehandedly, was awesome! Thank you for a great/satisfying meal and experience!

Yelp
We had to stop here while in town. My husbands name is vinnie, so he got super excited when he saw this place. The bread the came to the table was amazing! Super warm, and I love when places serve you butter that's not ice cold, the butter was chilled but melted perfectly on the bread! We started with the pork sausage as our appetizer which we got for free thanks to checking with the yelp app. The sausage itself was delicious the greens around them not so much, they honestly had a sour taste to them. My husband had the lamb osso meal, the lamb was literally falling off the bone delicious. The risotto seemed very plain, like it was missing something. My swordfish was okay, it wasn't the best fish I've had in my life. It was definitely not cooked the same way the whole way through half of the swordfish was over cooked and dry and the other half was less cooked and very fish ( yes I know it's fish.) but a very good cooked swordfish literally will melt in your mouth. This did not. I got the pasta as my side, which I don't know if I over looked it. But they asked me what side I wanted, I didn't realize it would be an up-charge. However the best part of the meal and the reason why I'm giving 4 stars in the cannoli, literally the best one I've ever had in my entire life. Service was mediocre. Place looked nice and open. Everyone was friendly staff wise. 3 stars for the food. 5 stars for the cannoli.

Anna L.

Yelp
Food was wonderful! I had the lasagna and my husband had the fussilla pasta with sausage. Service was great-friendly & recommended great choices. The restaurant was quaint and so friendly.

Thomas S.

Yelp
Food: the best red sauce I have had much like my wife's family makes Service they could use more help but the wait staff they had were excellent Ambiance well I go for the food not where I'm sitting
google avatar

Danny K.

Yelp
Everything is good. Service was very nice. Also I like the atmosphere of the dining area.
google avatar

Troy E.

Yelp
I want to give stars really bad but you have to earn them. Service was good but not great. Some food was loved, some food was mediocre. Small joint that gets a bonus for its hours and limited seating. It can be loud bc of neighbors lol. I was underwhelmed and would eat here again if no other options were available and convenient. The eggplant parm was good- zero complaints. Veal dish was apparently delicious bc it was devoured. Chicken parm- eh, hard to mess up but chicken was a bit undercooked and very thick...should have been pounded and flattened for even cooking and would have been more enjoyable.
google avatar

Eliza N.

Yelp
The quest for a swordfish steak wasn't easy. They had it so we went for our guest. I tried it, was good about 25.00. Person who ordered Shrimp scampi like hers. Meatballs and pasta and sauce so-so, metza-metza, meatballs a little rubbery and commercial, sauce bland, lacked flavor and texture. Maybe try again. Fresh bread, full bar. Front of business sub/pizza business. Short staffed this visit but waitstaff was adequate considering this.
google avatar

Jess C.

Yelp
This place rocks! Had a drink, ordered takeout, and watched Sopranos at the bar. The service and vibes were cozy and comfortable, could definitely see myself being a regular. North end has nothing on Vinny's!
google avatar

Joanne S.

Yelp
Antipasto was underwelming, but tasty enough. (Didn't like the few little rolls of meat/cheese that looked like they came from grocery store deli tray.) Pasta sauce/gravy was watery and tasteless. Pasta was a bit overcooked (i.e. not 'al dente'). We were never served any bread which is odd for any Italian restaurant. (Even if is was, I see that it's served with butter! It's my red flag to leave any Italian restaurant that serves their bread with butter instead of olive oil.) I had the Chicken Bracciole and it was more like a lightly stuffed chicken breast than a real Sicilian bracciole (flattened meat). My husband's Chicken Marsala looked/tasted exactly the same only with mushrooms. Atmosphere and decor is nice, people and staff are friendly ... hence the extra star rating. I/We don't need to go back there.
google avatar

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Solid Sicilian-style food in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. The server we had was working alone handling all tables plus take out orders. She was very kind and accommodating. The portions are really large. We ended up having leftovers for 2 more meals. The prices are very reasonable, especially given the amount of food you get. I would come back for sure to try other menu items. My nephew had the chicken parm and I had the beef braciole. The bread was nice and warm and comforting.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
I was in Boston a few years back, and had this great meal at a few places... chicken and broccoli with ziti. It was good, each time. Went home to Seattle, couldn't find it at restaurants; couldn't find a decent recipe. Ended up in Boston for one night, and I wanted this dish. We went to Vinny's. Cutest restaurant, fabulous service. The dish was better than any memory! My kid liked their pasta (excellent marinara), and the lemon sorbet served in a lemon was good and a fun presentation. Go and enjoy!
google avatar

Witt C.

Yelp
this place is the real deal. Simple, traditional Sicilian cooking executed perfectly. their marinara sauce is phenomenal, as is their homemade fusili. Giant portions at a relatively low price. I've been coming here for about 10 years, and they are CONSISTENT. Many of my favorite restaurants, even, do not always execute perfectly; Vinny's has managed to. The back room (where you sit down to eat) is cozy, but a bit crowded and cramped. I really only am here to enjoy the food though, so not a big deal!
google avatar

Chase S.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall option in Somerville. Don't judge a book by it's cover! Really great place for high quality food at inexpensive prices and unpretentious settings. Atmosphere/Ambience is part lo-fi Italian deli and part mini-mart with back area for pizza-joint like sitting. It's not a fancy restaurant theme! Lots of Italian regalia abounds. Dress in jeans and a hoodie or come fancy. They talk all-comers. Service was really good. I know some reviews said it could be quite bad, but we found it attentive and easy to grab passersby if we needed something. Servers had a good sense of humor. Food came quick. Drinks had one reminder but were out shortly thereafter. Yelp check-in appetizer deal accepted without any problems. And this all on a Saturday night prime time. Food was really great all around. The arancini was delicious. We loved the specials and between a few of us had the beef bracciola, chicken parm, chicken marsala, and lobster fra diavolo. Everything was great but the beef bracciola particularly so. Portions were huge, too. Drinks included some very good finds for inexpensive but high quality italian reds and whites. The cocktails were very strong and quite large. Liked the lemoncello cocktail a lot. Prices were the most refreshing part of it all. Very reasonable and inexpensive dinner that would have been at least twice the price at a white tablet cloth restaurant. We'll be back when we're in the neighborhood -- especially good option if someone's going to Encore right after.

A H.

Yelp
I love Vinny's! My last meal there was not great though! I often get the Calamari salad and it was different, not as good. My friend got the homemade fusilli with sausage, it had NO SAUCE or oil (ordered olive oil) and was flavorless. I'll probably not return but am sad because this used to be the best place. The service was excellent.

Dee D.

Yelp
if your American you are going to love vinny's, Italians....NO WAY. the tripe was good, my friend had stuffed calamari, extremely salty. the waitress destroyed the entire experience. she was rude and rude.....there is no need to ever visit Vinny's again, why pay for rudeness, and they should close for a few days and sanitize the entire restaurant

Ralph C.

Yelp
Vinny's is a sub shop by day (great) and an Italian restaurant by night (amazing). I am reviewing the night restaurant part,. The restaurant is small and somewhat casual. The service is efficient, kind and knowledgeable. Well, the service could distinguish the restaurant by itself, it is the food that is most distinguished. I've been coming to this restaurant for many years and have never had a bad experience, but if it's possible, it's actually gotten better. You are starting off with beverage order and basket of wonderful bread that can be either buttered or dipped in a wonderful EVOO. I chose table chef, taking the EVOO with Parmesan, hot pepper and salt. As for the menu, there is so many options, both appetizers, and entrées. Something to consider is the portions are beyond generous. The only problem that causes is the food is so good you just don't wanna stop eating. I started with the pasta Alforno. You can almost call it a vegetarian lasagna. It is a huge pasta and vegetables formed into a square and covered with their extraordinary marinara. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My Wife had the ravioli which were large and stuffed with cheese. She was only able to leave one and a half raviolis because she couldn't stop eating. She truly enjoyed that more than just about anything I've seen her eat, my daughter had the homemade gnocchi. She liked it to her grandmother's and said it was the best she had had in a restaurant. My stealing a bite confirmed that. The prices are very reasonable and the experience is unforgettable. Vinny's is the best Italian restaurant in Boston area. Period
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
Holy crap this place was amazing I had the VEAL OSSO BUCO it was the best meal I have had all year the meat was so tender and the rice was so flavorful CANT say enough about it
google avatar

Cathy N.

Yelp
Bathroom is not handicapped accessible. Need to climb stairs. The antipasto is really a deconstructed chef's salad. Not bad, but not what I think of when I think of antipasto. Pasta al Forno was pretty good. Too salty for my taste and it had little to no garlic. The garlic made my last meal there a 5 star meal. I love garlic.

Jane D.

Yelp
Another great time! Vinny's never disappoints! The drinks, food and friendly service are impeccable! We love it here!
google avatar

Jason Y.

Yelp
Vinny's is the ultimate hidden gem Italian restaurant of Boston. Been around forever, stuff of legend. It still retains the old school vibe. This place is basically a national treasure.

Brandi E.

Yelp
Never lets me down! A small, unassuming little place but with super delicious, authentic Italian classics. Their chicken parm and homemade mafalde are especially fabulous.
google avatar

Albie E.

Yelp
This Italian restaurant is really, really good! But be warned, if you go, you better be hungry! Good Italian restaurant with lots of traditional Italian dishes! I got the scallop, shrimp and lobster pasta dish! Omg, the amount of seafood they loaded the pasta with was unreal! I have not seen a restaurant serve such a generous amount, which I love! Also I opted for the hand made pasta, which is a +++++! My friend ordered the braciola pasta and also was very generous with portions, my friend couldn't finish it! We started with the fried calamari, which was good and again, large portions. We were able to share it amongst three of us. We had a good red wine and selection was good! I recommend reservations since it's very popular!

Ethan S.

Yelp
Nice sit down restaurant, came here for dinner with my girlfriend, good food and service
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Love it We're so glad to get back here. Ordered the gnocchi and also get some homemade fusilli; and my wife got a special dish she's been looking for for a while. From a safety standpoint, They space the tables out for plenty of social distancing and staff is very courteous and pays attention to cleanliness. I'm Just glad the taste is the same awesome taste I remember. it was nice to be back here after a long absence. I would highly recommend you go here if you're looking for some homestyle Italian cooking and want to go to a relaxed place with nice service and a good atmosphere.

D K.

Yelp
Service was so-so. Bread was burnt. Took a long time to get bread. Nice touch with olive oil. Large portions- ordered home made pasta so meal prep took a long time. Food tasted nice. More expensive than we expected overall.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This is my favorite Italian restaurant outside of the North End. The homemade pasta is amazing. The gravy reminds me of my nanas. The chicken Marsala with my homemade fusili was the best. On top of the delicious food, the service was five stars. Lori was our server and she was pleasant, responsive polite and attentive. I'd give this place six stars if I could.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
My husband and I ate in the deli section since they had stopped serving lunch and weren't yet serving dinner in the restaurant section. The young woman working the deli was very friendly and helpful. I had the eggplant Parmesan sandwich which was fantastic. My husband had the sausage sandwich which he said was as good as any he has ever had. This isn't a fancy place, but the food is great.
google avatar

Augusto T.

Yelp
Old-school Italian American goodness. Restaurants like Vinny's seem to be declining in Boston. Nowadays Italian restaurants are expensive, trying (but failing) to be fancy, and you might even leave the restaurant hungry. Italian grandma's everywhere just shake their heads in disappointment. Enter Vinny's: super casual, giant portions, and not overly pricey. You can order a lot of Italian American classics here, but they also have their own unique specialties. Definitely try some of their homemade mafalde or fusilli pasta. Their arancini weren't the super crispy on the outside, but they had good flavor and the sauce was nice. We also tried some of their specialties, the tripe. It was not my favorite version of the dish, but it was tender, a large portion, and super tripe-y, so if you like tripe, you will definitely be happy. The haddock fra diavolo was a nice dish. Tons of freshly cooked fish with olives and a very tasty sauce. The size of the dish surprised me, so I definitely recommend sharing. I definitely want to come back so I can try more dishes. Great for a casual and comforting dinner.
google avatar

Sandy K.

Yelp
This restaurant has been in business for the longest time and I just got to try it. The food was absolutely delicious, we ordered the arancini with homemade sauce, spinach with garlic and oil. For dinner both pasta dishes were so delicious. The services was top notch by Andrew, he was really nice and friendly. We will definitely come back! Support your local restaurants.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
They started carrying the large seeded rolls which "EVERYONE" wants but for some reason they just stopped out of the blue. I think they had them for a week. And they would sell them out every day. I have no idea why they stopped carrying them. Seems like a stupid decision
google avatar

Janelle H.

Yelp
I am obsessed with this place! I'm never going to the North end again (maybe for cafe Vittoria still) chicken marsala is my go to, but so is the ravioli and the arrancini , and so is the chicken parmesan and chicken picatta , but so is the tiramisu , and I'm sure the more I taste through the menu , the more I'm going to add to this list! Great friendly staff , patient waiters (dealing with me after me having too many espresso martinis, ha!) Oh and don't forget the hot fresh bread and perfect olive oil , even their parmesan is so so good !
google avatar

Osh K.

Yelp
After all these years and changes in my old neighborhood so glad to see that vinnys is still here! This place is so old school and I don't think they give one crap about a yelp review LOL. People that come here know what vinnys is all about so any outsiders that are new in the area don't expect 5 star service, not going to happen. Located in east Somerville and yes parking is tuff but be patient as always someone will be leaving, this place is so worth it.. I usually come here get take out, or dine in. The set up is different than any other restaurant. One part is take out you can order subs, pizza and calzones. The other is the dining area. The menu has a little bit of everything from fresh pasta, lasagna, chicken parm, calamari salad, seafood, veal, steaks and alot more. The portions are huge and the prices are fare. You will be leaving here happy. Cash or credit cards for payment. Oh make sure you order the arancini so bomb!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great lii place for authentic italiano food! We had the veal marsala with homemade fusili, and eggplant parm. Fresh sauteed spinach as the side. Bread on table fresh and yummy! Great service too! Pricing a wee bit high but thats the reality... highly recommend you try it out at Vinnys! They even have a deli area for u to take home food/meats! Mmmmmmm!
