Before coming to Vinos on las Olas, I sent them an email asking to see if I could reserve a table since we were going to celebrate 2 birthdays. In no time I got a reply, saying they would love to have us, and would expect us there on the Friday I selected at 7pm.
I arrived early and asked for my table at the bar and immediately was told they did not take reservations. When I showed the email, the girl said, well, I see a table opened up outside so I suggest you take it quick as this is a first come first sever place. As you can imagine, this made my first impression drop. It was not so much what she said but the way she said it.
I had been seated for 15 minutes when she comes back to my table and asks what would I like to drink, but first mentioning I had just missed happy hour. Ummm, second strike girl! But, for information purpose, HH includes wines by the glass at $6, beers at $2, and the cheese plates at $6.
I kept reminding myself I was there for a happy occasion so did not let her attitude bother me. My friends came, the place started getting busier and we got another server. From here on out the experience changed for the better. This server was friendly, attentive, and was on top of everything we ordered. Drinks came out fast, made recommendations, and even encouraged us to order some few plates first and then others depending on how hungry/ full we were as this is all served tapas style.
The patio area is beautiful. Casual, cozy, with pretty lights and trees. Excellent for a date or night out with friends, and the noise level is not terrible so you still can have a conversation comfortably. Inside is more dark, intimate, and they also have the bar area for more casual nights.
To start, we checked the wine bottle prices are not that marked up. Their prices are pretty reasonable, great for trying different wines on one same night.
We started with the Trio Cheese board - this had Blue Cheese, Goat Cheese, and a Brittany Cow cheese. This last one we had never had before and loved it. The Board also came with figs, green apples, almonds, toasted baguette, and honey. They have about four other cheese plates to order from, some including meats too. Good luck choosing, they all sound amazing but we were happy with the one we got.
Then came the Prosciutto Bruschetta. Delicious burrata cheese topped with tomato, prosciutto, basil and drizzled balsamic glaze on top. In my opinion this is a must!!
Spinach and Fig Flatbread was another favorite. Sweet and salty combination, which I love, and they add walnuts for a bit of crunch - perfect! They also ordered an Iberian Flatbread, which I took a picture of but was not able to try because I was just too full.
Thankfully the bitter taste that first person left on me was gone. The food was amazing, the wine too, and as mentioned, the new server saved the day. Plus the atmosphere there makes it impossible to be sour or mad at this place.
