I love coming to shop at Violet Grey! The shop is beautiful and feels very old Hollywood, but you’ll find all the best products. I like knowing that everything has been tested and vouched for. I love shopping with Sima and Brandon. Always a treat getting to go in person to shop.

I’ve been a customer here since 2014, and I’m thrilled it’s back in the hands of the creator. Their products are and always have been the ones you will always go back for. Their shipping services are outstanding, and when you need a gift sent - let them handle everything! They have 20% off sales too! This shop itself is beautiful and much smaller than I had anticipated. I rarely write reviews but the service I received as a paying customer was absolutely shocking. I was looking for a specific eyeliner and the salesperson was so unhelpful, and could not be bothered to see if they had it in stock. She was rude and I felt like I was being judged the entire time. Maybe I was not decked out in designer clothing, but I did purchase two items and left there thinking why did I even bother buying from this store as I could have given my business to a store that had people working in it who care about their customers and their experience. Given that you can find anything these days online or even in other specialty shops, I will not purchase from here again. Customer service and being kind matter!

They have great products, unfortunately every time I’ve gone the staff have been very rude and snide.

This is the worst service I've ever had at a retail shop. I've been there two times and both times the sales associates were rude and looked like they don't want to be bothered. The second time - I went in and stood there for 5 minutes until someone was able to help me. During the 5 minutes the staff just talked to each other or looked at their phones. I was trying a product and the sales associate walked away to chat with other associates. Basically I was helping myself with the staff in the room displaying attitude, very uncomfortable. When I asked the sales associate which color looked better on me, she just said "well you have a lot of pigmentation". It sounds like she couldn't give advice to color people???

I love coming into this shop! The associates are so nice and helpful, Brandon is super friendly and knowledgeable about all the products they carry. I love that the shop feels intimate, not at all like the overwhelming experience of a Sephora store with a hundred employees hounding you. Staff are helpful and I feel like I’m shopping in someone’s chic Parisian apartment!

I came here simply because they were the only shop that carried VB-Victoria Beckham-Beauty (I know, please don't make fun of me). I wanted to try out the products before purchasing, and I have to say I had a positive experience with Brandon! Greeted immediately upon entering, I walked into the small store where there were about two associates and a few customers. There was plenty of seating for those who weren't shopping, and I made my way around until I found the area I was searching for. When he had a moment, I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and then had full reign of the VB eye liners. I played to my hearts content while staying out of the way of other customers. Due to the small space, they have a highly coveted line of products; some of course you will find at Sephora, Neiman's, etc. but others are specific to here, this VB line being one of them. Her Satin Kajal Liners are some of the best I have ever used, and I appreciate the smudger on the other end for convenience. This formula did not leave me with raccoon eyes, and I hope this holds up for their other shades and finishes (matte, shimmer and jewel). A complimentary sharpener is normally included which was forgotten understandably due to how busy the shop became, but one was held for me to pick up the following day. I liked the fact I was greeted, then left alone until I needed assistance; I didn't feel as though I was intruding and there was zero pressure to purchase. Thanks to Brandon, my first experience here was a great one, and I look forward to returning!

Horrible customer service!! Made multiple attempts to contact the company to return an online order and now the return window has closed and I never got a response. Don't order from them!!

I didn't understand this store. How is this different from a department store beauty section or Sephora? They sell all the same brands. Super small space; it feels like someone's living room. The only good thing was that the workers were nice to me.

Staff were cold and unfriendly. I went to the store for the first time to ask about a product and how to use it. I apparently needed help but the lady basically just told me to try it on myself and stepped away.

Love the products and the store is so cute... but unfortunately the staff is really not welcoming and not helpful. The last two times I went I felt like I was bothering them... much rather go to Saks or Chanel.

Brandon was fabulous in helping me with an error that I made with my order. Their products are amazing and I am thrilled with everything!

Do your shopping online if you'd rather not have a negative experience. I came in with a friend from out of town, and while one of the saleswomen was polite, the other was walking around using the store's $2,695 Lyma laser on herself and rolling her eyes at us when my friend asked for a product that they carry online but not in store. Then asked "is there anything else?" when we continued looking around instead of leaving right away. Sadly, it's not the first time an employee has been rude while I've brought a visiting guest here, and it's embarrassing.

For years, I've loved going into Violet Grey because of how beautiful the store is and the highly curated offerings. I usually buy a few items each time I go. But the past few times I've gone in the people working there have been so unwelcoming and unfriendly. It is such a turn off! There are too many other options out there for buying beauty products-- there's no reason to feel uncomfortable when making a purchase. Not sure if I'll be back.

Placed an online order. Package was not delivered. They're saying they have proof of delivery. I still do not have products. Horrible company. I wouldn't purchase from them again. I'm disputing my order with my credit card company.

There is no beauty place like Violet Grey. It's such a gorgeous space, and includes a private makeup studio. The curation is so current and good! The overall vibe is cool... good music...lighting is right (if you know you know). The girls working there were so friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me when I had questions and weren't annoying in any way. I was able to shop in peace. It just feels so private there. I wish there were more special places like this, I would shop online less. I look forward to my next visit there!!

The brands they carry are very high end. But there is no sign outside and the door was half closed. Not super inviting. And when I walked in, both the women working there sat in chairs on their phones. Did not seem to want to interact with me. Strange sales strategy. It is a beautiful location but many of these exclusive brands lack warmth and genuine community. They have an arrogant and off-putting air sometimes. They are not in my experience very curious about their customers.

I have never actually been to the store, as I have always placed orders online with this company, but I have to say that the customer service I received was OUTSTANDING! I received a $145 jar of Clarifying Mask and when I opened it, it smelled rather off, possibly rancid. I emailed Violet Grey customer support and sent them photos of the box, jar and batch numbers. They immediate sent me a replacement jar with 2-day shipping! No questions asked! I will absolutely continue to shop with Violet Grey!

I have made online purchases since VG started. I recently ordered toothbrushes that fell apart in about a week. I sent a picture of the product to customer support and the response I got was they would inform the vendor. that was it - no offer to replace or refund. Not spending any more money here.

I am always stunned by how rude the sales people are in this store. They hardly make eye contact and have no interest in being nice, helpful and friendly. Such a turn off especially with such a niche store....will definitely be ordering the items I went in store to purchase today online from somewhere else!

I saw an ad for what looked like an incredible single mini facial and I placed an order for it, amount several other items, on August 4th. By August 14th I still had not received my order. This is from a company that is less than 10 miles from my home. Shipping 2 days MAX! After emailing them on the 14th, 10 days later, I find out my order had never even been processed. The only reason I even placed an order was for the facial and it is now out of stock. Had my order been processed when placed, I would have received my order in its entirety. Wow, once they finally read my order, shockingly, they shipped on the 15th and I just received it today. Exactly 2 days later (of course without the facial and no mention of it whatsoever. I have tried to contact them numerous times and I have yet to receive any kind of response and/or customer service. This company will not stay in business long if this is how they treat their customers, especially for a beauty store that sells extremely pricey products. I couldn't be more disappointed, regardless how well the products are, which I haven't even tried or even taken out of the box because I am considering returning the entire order on principal alone. I would definitely think twice about ordering from this company. There are plenty of amazing beauty companies that ship when an order is placed and actually have customer service.

In-store service is wonderful, but beware of ordering anything via their website. Twice my products have not been delivered. Once, my neighbor found the FedEx box left on the street by garbage cans. The second time UPS delivered the box to the wrong address. Any other company would immediately initiate a refund or an exchange. Not Violet Grey. They wanted to wait until they sorted out their claim with UPS, even though I had documentation from UPS admitting the error. The products are too expensive to keep customers in that kind of limbo. I've been a regular customer for 7 years. Shame on Cassandra Grey.

I came to the store today and had an event with a super great NY plastic surgeon. They offered free plastic surgery consult, who can resist one of these? They have great selection, pretty much all the products I have at home that took me years to find, all in 1 place so amazing. I guess the girls running this store know their stuff. I had only great experience with all the staff there I think there were about 5 or 6 people staffed including a makeup artist. I ended up buying the plastic surgeons lip kit and her eye lash kit both are supposed to be excellent and of course I could not help to buy a few more things, like this amazing Byredo perfume oil stick, it's so fab! Run don't delay going there its so worth it, I feel like my own personal closet of cool things and I really don't want to share with with all of you, as you will steal my secret stash...:) well be smart shop here, and get your self a latte next door at Alfred's so worth it. I ordered several products on line. Several weeks later the incorrect products arrived. I mean, not even my order. Nothing close to what I ordered. I immediately called the customer service number and left a message as no one answered. That happened every time I called. I texted the number they listed to initiate a chat. I was told I had to email. So, I emailed the details of the fiasco. A week later I heard back. I was told I would be given a complimentary replacement order. What??? I never received what I paid over $300 for- including a Bride Box for my daughter who got married. But didn't get her Bride Box. Oh well. I was also told to mail back the incorrect items, which were some cheap footbath and liquid make up remover. Ridiculous. Fast forward, or slow forward some weeks later, I received a partial order from my original order. Is the rest coming? Did I pay for something I will never get? Do I have to keep sending emails to find out about my missing products? I guess so. In this day and age, with everything available on Amazon, its just isn't worth it. Non existent customer service does not go hand in hand with these prices or products. I'll update if my original order should arrive or if I hear of it's whereabouts.

I ordered a product that never arrived. Customer service took forever to get back to me. They finally sent a replacement, but again, I didn't receive it. I think it required a delivery signature, so am not sure if Violet Grey didn't send it or FedEx screwed it up. At this point, I'm going to file a dispute with my credit card company.

I am obsessed. I order about two items a week and every single item I've ordered exceeded my expectations. I am a huge fan of LaMer , Molton Brown and the usual luxury skin care, but as my skin changes with age I haven't been in love with what I've been using for many years. I gave the face products a try on Violet Grey and me who is prone to INTENSE breakouts has not broke out once. I really believe that the owner/staff really care about the items they list on their website. I don't know why people are not receiving their orders (hope that does not happen to me lol) , but I've had nothing but amazing experiences .... I do wish though after spending over 1000$ that they offered me some type of promo code off my next order at least to cover the shipping. Whatever I am happy.

Cute store with good products and friendly customer service! This place is a good alternative to Sephora. You will have a much greater selection at Sephora but it gets overwhelming for me. I like coming to this store because all of their products have been selected and recommended by makeup artists as top products. There are also fewer people inside the store so it's easy to get help from the associates. Street parking wasn't too difficult for me.

I've shopped online twice. They have a nice curation of items, including items that aren't sold anywhere else in the US. If anything is sold out the notifications do work. Don't expect any samples. Don't expect much customer service. I purchased virtual gift cards Friday morning. Their virtual gift card description says "Please allow 2-4 hours for processing". I saw somewhere else they don't process after 4pm PST. Well, when 8 hours had passed, I emailed and never got a response and got the gift cards the following Monday mid-day.

Worst customer service ever! FedEx supposedly delivered my order but failed to obtain a signature. Unbeknownst to me, FedEX released the signature requirement on my parcel without my consent! Now I'm out of $600 & Violet Grey refuses to accept any responsibility on their end.

Fed Ex screwed up the delivery to me. I was home, but they claim it was delivered (no signature, no proof it was). Violet Grey is so far refusing to cancel or replace. And they seem to think I should have multiple homes so that they can deliver to another one instead. Don't shop here.

This store has some great products and the staff can be very helpful but it very pretentious in the way it operates. It's best to discover what you need and but the products directly from the manufacture.

I just want to start with that the customer service was amazing . I called them as I was confused about which product is right for my skin and hair so after mentioning my issues about my skin and hair they suggested me the right products . I am going to order it today and yes definitely it's on the pricier side but then it's about your skin and hair .

Best staff. Great recommendations and I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of. Great sales and always rotating products. Skin care heaven with a very chic inside. Check it out! Especially the make up room

I strongly urge you to NEVER order from this place. I want to preface with saying I am not someone who leaves reviews all of the time, so I am writing this in hope this never happens to you. I bought around $180 worth of products from the Violet Grey website and waited over two weeks from them to come in. Finally we they did NOT, I emailed violet grey where they told me the packages had been delivered the day before. They did not answer. I emailed again and contacted Fedex, who had NO proof of delivery and I proceeded to emailed Violet Grey again. Heard nothing again. So I reached out again, and heard absolutely nothing. Their customer service is unacceptable and they do not care about customers at all. I am now owes $180 worth of products and have not been able to reach anyone at their office in days.

I hate giving bad reviews. But I have to. I have never felt so belittled during a shopping experience in my life. My friend and I are both professional (read: gainfully employed) makeup artists, and came in planning to almost fully restock our kits here. We were prepared to drop some serious bank. I guess we didn't look cool (or rich?) enough for the shop girls. White tshirt and jean shorts on my friend, black dress and Birkenstocks on me. Should we have been carrying LV monogram and have Gucci emblazoned on our chests, and every brandable nook of our clothes, or what? Do I need to aggressively and without context, name drop all of my clients? Gross. The girls behind the counter had *one* client in, who had already been rung up, chatting at the front desk. And they ignored us completely- this place is seriously tiny. So this was super intentional. One of them was pretty desperately pushing her Instagram account, trying to bag new followers. Then we were just served a cold side eye once the client left. One very bored dude finally emerged from the back to ring us in disinterestedly. In hindsight we're mad we bought anything, but we were feeling pretty shaken up. The testers were pretty haggard. More than a few fingers had clearly found their way into some of them, so I wouldn't recommend putting any of their stuff on your face, because bacteria. Trust me on this. Don't do it. Someone in a previous review said she felt like Pretty Woman, and that is super accurate. Is this really the kind of vibe you guys are hoping to have? Do you think it's cool to be rude to people? Because it's really not. The kindest people I have worked with in this business are usually the most successful. On the positive side, we found Frends beauty, where we stocked up on Koh Gen Do, Aucoin, and Jouer- and the service was LOVELY and attentive, not overbearing. It was a treat, and I honestly could have spent all day there.

I absolutely love this place! I was greeted with a friendly smile & a "good morning" the first time I arrived on a rainy day. i got there as soon as it opened. It's pretty & smaller than i thought. The makeup was displayed well & organized. After a few min they asked if I was looking for something special. She was knowledgeable on all products. The boutique is a beautiful, old hollywood vibe boudoir .. i found unique perfumes and candles you don't find at other stores. There's always a candle burning in entry that I end up buying .. or if i didn't i wished i had later when I got home. I don't live near by but I've have been 3xs since & each time a great experience..from a facial, to meeting Melanie Simon! I'll be back

Meh. They have a great selection of stuff but that store is meant for mostly kissing the butts of the nouveau riche. I'm disappointed because I too, subscribe to their email blasts and have been a big fan of their blog but the horrible customer service is not worth the trip to find those hard to find beauty products you want. so. bad. and can't wait for the delivery time for Net-A-Porter. Just wait for freakin' Net-A-Porter. If you're gonna even go, at least use their bathroom, because they have a matte black toilet, black toilet paper, black paper towels and la mer hand cream (make sure to use a lot of it...) The extra star is for the black toilet paper.

I purchased 2 bottles of the vitamin c serum. 200 dollars a bottle. Within 3 days both my daughter and I had severe allergic reactions. We had hives, pustules, rashes and my daughter got a swollen eyelid even though the product never touched her eye. I have contacted them and filed a claim with PayPal. I have pictures. We both spent 3 hours at urgent care and have been put on oral steroids and prescription strength cortisone cream. I have pictures of the allergic reactions and of the medicine prescribed. This company will not refund your money if the product has been opened????? They have completely ignored all my correspondence. Do not buy the vitamin C serum and do not do business with this company. I researched the ingredients and all of the ingredients have these potential side effects. Why doesn't the company post that??? Horrible customer service, and dishonest advertising with no warnings. I will probably take them to Small Claims Court.

Extremely over prized and I broke out into a severe reaction that took almost two weeks to clear. Stay clear from this over prized toxic garbage.

After making several attempts to speak with Allison I was very disappointed that I had to write this review. I called at 10:00 am & then again at 4:30pm & she still had not returned my call or come up with suggested products I thought the customer service was lacking & her attention was unprofessional. I have no interest in reaching out again & would suggest to others to shop at Neiman Marcus, Barney's or SFA where customers are treated better. Sorry, Allison you fell very short

Terrible, pretentious customer service. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman despite the fact that I look nothing like a hooker. I stopped in the other day during my lunch break, and the two employees in the shop did not even look up for a good 2 minutes while I awkwardly stood waiting for someone to acknowledge me. Finally a man entered and asked if I needed something. I told him what I was looking for (which was sold out in every Sephora in LA and online), and when he said they had it I did a little cheer, which he was not impressed by. He did not seem thrilled to have to sell me the product and had a very condescending tone during our transaction. This place gets 1 star A. because you have to give at least 1 and B. because they did have what I was looking for, but I will never give this place my business again.

3.5 I've been a subscriber to the VG blog for some time. It was fun to step into their headquarters/boutique today. They stock a finely tuned, well-edited selection of beauty products. There was a lovely sales person that helped us and knew the products very well. Pretty boutique. A tiny bit imitidating so please ask for help. They warm up rather quick.

Got dragged here by my friend but I'm pretty glad that I gave it a chance cause I was skeptical. Great time with Ashley who was super attentive and nice. Answered all my questions and recommended a variety of items for me to pick from. She accomplished everything I asked for so five star.

I received a gift from Violet Grey in April and returned it with all the paperwork and order numbers they requested. When I emailed to inquire where my credit was they told me they had no idea what order I was talking about. I emailed the paperwork again and they told me they were processing the credit. It has been almost 2 months and I still have no credit. I call and they don't return calls and when I email it I get a response they are processing my credit. I would NEVER buy anything from this company!

Went to the store today to check out the westman atelier foundation. As soon as I walked in my mother and I were barely given a hello. The employee was sitting on a chair in her computer and seemed to be too busy to bother to even get up. I asked about the westman atelier products and they showed me where it was but didnt offer to help color match or tell me anything about it. Honestly, they were unhelpful and belittling in their attitude. Btw, spent a decent amount of money there and regret it- Im not feeling good about going, it showed the bad side of LA. The side that doesnt care about brown patrons. Wont be visiting again.

This is absolutely one of my favorite makeup stores and a hidden little gem on Melrose Place. This place is perfectly curated with the best of the best makeup, skincare, perfume/candles and hair products. I believe if you purchase $250 worth of products they will do your makeup for you. Every time I come here I have a lovely experience and everyone is very friendly. This place carries all of my favorites from Bioderma to Vintner's Daughter. It's my one-stop-shop. There is metered parking available on Melrose Place.

`Good lord their customer service is horrendous. I placed an order late on 3/27 at 6pm. When I placed the order, I paid for overnight shipping for arrival on 3/29 before 3pm. My order was shipped by Violet Grey on 3/28 and it was confirmed for arrival by 3 pm today, 3/29. It never arrived. I requested a credit for overnight shipping. I keep getting messages from their customer service, latest one from Sophia, stating that I placed the order too late on the 27th for overnight shipping. I KNOW THIS. I wasn't expecting it to arrive yesterday. I was expecting it today per the shipping confirmation emails from Violet Grey. This is a simple concept...don't know why it's so difficult for them. Do not buy from them online. Horrible service.

I absolutely LOVE this place. I started off following their blog and occasionally checking their site for new posts. A good friend of mine got me a giftcard to this place and I was in heaven. Their selection is very curated which is a good thing because they know about the product well and aren't just promoting the brand because it's there. Everything there has been hand picked and tried by them. The boutique is very chic and elegant and makes you feel like anything you purchase is an investment. Their associates are there to help you learn to use something, try something new and have GREAT product recommendations. Recently I visited again during their spend $250 get $50 off and I was helped by Lori. She helped me with almost everything, didn't rush me or push product on me which I liked, I ended up loving all of my purchases, not to mention the Koh Gen Do spa water makeup remover she recommended me try. I make it a POINT to only get my beauty purchases here. I love the store, the ambiance and the people. My only issue is the parking, it can be a huge pain, but since the stores right on Melrose, I don't mind a little scenic stroll before I reach my destination.

How do I not know about this little gem until Lisa Eldridge did her book signing here?! Such a cute shop with very selective collection of makeup! The owners and the team really knows how to pick and choose the best items to carry. I would definitely come back even if it's an hour and a half drive for me. The experience here is so different from your regular everyday make up boutique or store. You go in chit chat with a celebrity make up artist, they give you champagne, water, and you basically talk make up and try on things! If you need to get your make up done they have complimentary service, but you'll just have to purchase $250 worth of make up. It's worth it.. trust me!

Violet Grey is highly curated & VERY selective with their luxury skin care products. They have the best experts to give beauty advice. Almost impossible to walk out without a purchase.

Great curated selection. The store is well put together but the customer service is horrible. This is my third trip and I shan't be going again. They sales girls are aloof, uneducated and more interested in networking themselves than helping customers. Obviously actresses who should hone their skills in acting like sales girls. Had I not done my research beforehand on a brand I would have had zero information on what I was asking about. The store relies on instagram famous brands to drive the business instead of offering great products curated with proven research. Agree with the reviewer who commented about not looking rich enough. Service will depend on the handbag your carrying.

Heaven for the beauty-obsessed connoisseur. This store will delight your senses to a whole new level with their fine selection of skin, body, hair and nail products. Not a store for those on a budget but worth a visit for those who want to treat themselves and experience the best for your face and body.

Their curated selection is spectacular. You walk into this adorable store and you feel transported to a little storefront in France. They have great people helping you and such a chic place to be picking up some amazing beauty products. I got a Japanese eyelash curler from them that I live by!

Well, Bita S., I second your unbridled enthusiasm for this little Melrose Place gem, stocked with curated beauty-addict favorites from Sisley, SKII, Le Labo, Tom Ford, T3, et al. It's the enormous bathroom counter I've always wanted. The place itself is small and intimate - it reminds me of Agent Provocateur, though I can't pinpoint why - maybe the colors? There are a few brands I'd still love to see here - that haven't made it to LA or the US at all - but Violet Grey is otherwise perfection for my fellow ITG and Coveteur readers.
