Violet’s Vietnamese Shoppe Review - Forest Hills - New York - The Infatuation

"This is a counter-service Vietnamese spot in Forest Hills with a couple of tables and some very good banh mi sandwiches. We really like their house special, which comes with pork, Vietnamese salami, and ham - but other options range from one with flounder to a vegan version. If you’re not interested in bahn mi, you can get some pho or a rice or noodle bowl." - Hannah Albertine

Love the trip to France 🇫🇷 right here in Clarksdale! The pastries and croque monsieur were very well done! Great outdoor patio at the centre of everything!

We come here every time we come through Clarkdale!! Charming people, delicious foods and amazing prices for the level and quality of what they have to offer. We loveeeeeeeee it

Google
This is a fun place to grab a bite of breakfast or brunch, or just a pastry or other food item because you want something freshly made and delicious. It is set up in the cutest little caboose car, and I live all the bistro tables set up outside. We ordered a caramel pecan cinnamon roll and a strawberry danish. And we sat outside at one of the tables and enjoyed the weather and the friendly people.

Last March, my beau and I went to Violette's via rec from a boutique store in Old Town Cottonwood, and we had a cookie butter brioche cinnamon roll. 10 out of 10, so good, we came back the following day for another! Very good memory for us, and hope to return soon!

Super friendly staff serving really delicious food! Love the quiche, the pumpkin waffle (oh my goodness! what a taste sensation!!) and the amazingly tasty fruit tart! Great little place for a yummy meal. You can stay there to enjoy your meal seated at one of their outdoor tables or even consider walking to nearby benches situated to look out over the valley towards Jerome. Very lovely! UPDATE: +JMJ. Wednesday, 13 July 2022 Arrived this morning after 9 am and found them to be very busy with many of the tables (outdoor) full and a line of customers. This is such a blessing for the owner, Amber. She prepares phenomenal pastries and offers French cuisine (Croque Monsuier and Madame) which I have yet to try but am hopeful to do in the future. This morning's yummy pastries ordered were 2 scones and one chocolate croissant. The pecan and brown sugar scone is the yummiest pastry I have ever eaten (even better than what I have eaten during a visit to the UK!) Buttery sweetness is melt in your mouth wonderful! Also, during this visit, I could hear what sounded like 1920s or 1930s music. Love it! Though I am not a crowd person, I will have to subdue my fears for another visit. If ever in old town Clarkdale, stop in for an amazing culinary experience. Blessings and Bon Appétit! UPDATE: Wednesday 6 November 2024 Stopped to purchase pastries and a sandwich. Great service by ladies, very friendly. And, my sandwich was DELICIOUS! Lastly, the almond croissant was amazing! Surely, these will be served in the Heavenly Banquet!

Google
Croissants are the best I've ever had! Croque monsiuer, was good too. It took me back to a Rue Cler cafe - c'est bon. The staff isn't wrong: it's called "Paun Perdu", not "Pain Per-don't". Looking forward to trying their sandwiches next time.

So delicious!! It's a perfect corner spot to grab a bite before heading to the Verde Valley Train ride. Loved the spied chai as well.

Google
This cute little bakery is located in a refurbished train car. You step inside and order at a glass counter, so there is no seating inside, but they have set up an area outside to sit. I had the best cinnamon roll of my life here (no picture because I ate it too fast), and the other options are delicious as well. I will definitely be returning everytime I’m in town.

Yelp
Wonderful pastry's, friendly service, adorable ambiance. Some friends told us how great this place was and when we tried it we agree! Loved it!

Yelp
If you like day old pastries made somewhere else (we watched them being delivered) and lukewarm microwave reheated sandwiches then this is the place for you. Almond croissant had icky gummy filling with an overly strong alcohol aftertaste. Kinda unpleasant really. Location was quaint... But line to place the order was slow. The codger mens club chatting up any female in line was kinda creepy.

Yelp
Wow! What a hidden gem!! So glad we found Violettes Bakery Cafe when we were on our way to the station for our train ride. This place doesn't look like much but we were so pleasantly surprised and impressed, even tho we only had enough time to get pastries. We went with the Pumpkin Pie Praline, Kouign Amman, and Strawberry Danish. All of the pastries were so perfectly buttery and flaky and delicious! It's hard to find a really good Kouign Amman but this one was lovely, not too sweet. I cannot wait to back specifically for this and try out a croissant sandwich or crepe (or both) too!

Yelp
Great coffee & croque monsieur. Order at the window & outside seating in a charming little town. Don't forget a visit to the Copper museum across the street.

Yelp
I've had this bakery on my list for so long and I am super happy that I finally was able to check it out! First of all, the entire set up is adorable. All the baked goods are beautifully displayed and the ladies behind the counter are more than willing to help you. Our family was up in the Cottonwood area for the day and decided to try a bunch or items; from savory to dessert and I can honestly say that every was made with love-you can totally taste the love. I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area!

Yelp
The four of us stopped for a quick lunch at Violette's on our way from Sedona to Jerome. What a tasty, wonderful experience. Shared a chicken salad croissant sandwich, which paired well with the Butterfly matcha latte. We all took home a pastry - all fantastic, especially my berry pastry and the pain au chocolat!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
The pastry is always to die for!! Worth the trip from Sedona anyway. Try to get here at least once a month.

Bridgette S.

Yelp
We have had a number of menu items, Every one of them has been delightful. Service is excellent a great combination of attentive, friendly, and helpful. We look forward to each encounter at Violette's!

Yelp
Wow. Great French Bakery in the middle of Clarkdale. Excellent location with the most beautiful people works in this Cafe. You really need to visit this place to appreciate what they offer.

Yelp
Cute place, great coffee, breakfast items and pastries! There isn't a menu to order off, the items are made fresh daily and put in the case to choose from. I prefer to see prices of items prior to purchase, and they are not marked, only the price on coffee is posted.

Yelp
This is a cafe where you need to understand the details. If you are looking for a French breakfast experience and don't mind eating primarily sweets, hey it's a 5-star place. Cute as a button, lovely owner and staff, very French. All high quality. However, if you are looking for eggs, or a full breakfast, then I will refer you to the Red Rooster or Crema Cafe, in OldTown Cottonwood. I myself am rather unwilling to eat much sugar, so I would not try to eat a breakfast here again. Fabulous cappuccino, but remember this is European style, 5 oz, not some Starbucks Grande. There are a few savory items, but they mostly have ham or turkey, so those of us who don't eat meat will pass them by. But still, even if you're fine with a Croque monsieur or some such, note that there are no sides. No potatoes. So for those who believe "breakfast for kings,..." you will not find what you need here. I think they have adopted to American life a bit too much by being a bit heavy with the sugar shaker. My standard of reference is still Paris Baguette. Yes, I know they are a Korean chain, but heck, their outlets are the best even in Manhattan, NY, according to my tastes, when I was living there. Very sparing of pouring sugar on. We have one outlet in North Scottsdale here, which I prefer over Violette's, but of course you're not going to drive 2 hours to grab some baked goods. (Do not go to their Tempe outlet, though). A wider selection at Paris Baguette and very light with the sugar shaker. Be aware that, like most bakeries, if you show up late, you may not have much of a selection. Ms. Godina: If you are looking at this, please consider cutting back on sugar. Merci beaucoup! But I thank you very much for bringing such a unique establishment to Clarkdale.

Yelp
A local gem. Beautiful and tasty French style handmade pastry served by a small friendly staff. Seating is outdoors with shade available and French mood music. Highly recommended. Bring cash.

Yelp
Fantastic little hidden gem! Pick your pastry and your beverage. Sit back and enjoy! Delicious pastries. Friendly staff and the ambiance. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Amazing little bakery in Clarkdale AZ We discovered in our airbnb manual and got there right as it was opening. Line of at least 10 people. Everyone was friendly. I got the almond cherry crumble cake which was amazing! I also shared a couple other baked goods that were so good!!! We will definitely come back! Made freah every day!
google avatar

Johanna A.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were really great! Long line to order and some of the pictures posted on Yelp are no longer accurate. They only offer pastries and other items ready-made. They do heat them up and the coffee / chai is done really well. Only reason giving a 4 and not a 5 is because of the time to wait in like and if you want anything else there's no way I would stand in line again. So be prepared to order!

Kelley F.

Yelp
This little spot is magical. Violette's is an authentic European breakfast. Everything is made fresh daily with care and expertise. Amber makes authentic croissant, and sweet and savory pastries every morning and delivers them to her quaint train car that has a lovely outdoor patio filled with locals and tourists with old style French Cafe music playing in the background. Like in France at a small boulangerie, you can purchase specialty sandwiches and quiche made fresh that morning. I love to stop and grab coffee and a bite to eat whenever I can, and often have to stop myself from indulging in multiple pastry because everything is sooo delicious! The staff is very welcoming too. They are proud and rightfully so. Everything about Violette's is exquisite and quality.

Yelp
Best kept secret for croissant sandwiches! The Monte Clarkdale was so delicious. It had a great balance between sweet and savory on a perfectly crisp croissant. The L'imposteur was equally yummy. Coffee also hit the spot. We stopped by here on our girls trip to Sedona for brunch and it was exactly what we needed. Quick, walk up to the window and seat yourself kind of vibe. Recommended to stop by for a quick bite on your way in or out of Sedona.

Yelp
Had an absolutely delicious Pecan Praline Scone and a local Plum Chousson with a cup of wonderful black coffee. Ladies working there are great.P
google avatar

Stacey W.

Yelp
One of the cutest places with the most amazing baked goods! Another reason I love Clarkdale
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
The pastries are excellent and the setting is adorable. If the weather is good, there's hardly a nicer spot. Be advised the menu is greatly reduced from the photos you see here. It's only pre-prepared sandwiches and pastries, no made to order breakfast sandwiches which we didn't find out until we got there. The service was pleasant though a little slow, so be prepared for a bit of a wait.

Yelp
Super cute and unique stop! Had coffee and one of the best croissants EVER! My guy had a pistachio eclair that was very tasty. Tiny little train car with plenty of outside seating. We and the doggo had a nice break on our to the Grand Canyon. Wanted to hit up the virgin cheese shop across the street, but vender was closed, I guess for lunch.

Yelp
My friend and I found this lovely place after visiting Jerome. Wonderful chicken pot pie and spinach pesto quiche. Crust was great! Also Carmel pecan cinnamon rolls to die for!! Service friendly and outdoor area cute and wonderful on a day with lots of sun! We will be back!

Yelp
I changed the rating on my review because the owner was apologetic and refunded us. Long story short. After waiting in line 20 minutes to order the man at the window told us 10 minutes for our order. He should have told us 20-30 minutes so we'd know what to expect. We waited 30 minutes and left without our order after paying and tipping. The owner was very nice and was apologetic, made things right with us and refunded our money. 3 stars is positive on Yelp and translates to A-OK. To me 3 stars also means that I have some reservations. After driving around 90 minutes to get there. Waiting in the hot sun 20 minutes to order and being told 10 minutes, then waiting another 30 minutes.....anyone would have reservations. The food they serve is obviously high quality just know that you have to wait maybe 30 minutes for it after being told 10 minutes.

Yelp
It's conveniently located in a railroad car in the Town Center .The parking was easy but it is a busy place. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. The staff were attended and professional. It's a traditional French style bakery so you're gonna get what you pay for, the owners are using good quality ingredients in their pastries so it's more expensive than people are used to paying. Of course at first I always get a plain croissant to begin my judgment on the quality of the French bakery and their plain croissant was wonderful buttery, flaky and crisp and soft on the inside. Went well with my black dark roast coffee. The other days I went there I had their breakfast sandwiches with the croissant and they were great. They continually make different kinds of pastries. I enjoyed their cinnamon gooey roll one morning as well. Sometimes they run out and good for them because that means business is going well. On several days I was there I was lucky to get tables there is a local clientele that eats there because they know what good food is. She makes all kinds of yummy treats you can tell it's a labor of love. I talked to her companion a really nice man and he shared with me some of her history and love of baking. It's well worth the drive. Just be realistic if it's busy you may wait. I look forward to coming back again this winter. I kind of stalk the restaurant over the months that I'm not there and she just produces some wonderful stuff. It's locally owned and it's really great to support a locally owned business, especially one that's such a high quality as hers.

Yelp
Some of the best breakfast pastries we've ever had in the USA. Amazing owners and amazing food. Make sure you get here.

Lisa D. A.

Yelp
For my first time eating French pastries I was blown away with the perfect balance of sweet flaky fluffy deliciousness! The waffle was unlike any I have ever ate! The avocado toast with a perfectly cooked egg was heavenly too! I bought 4 Kouign-Amann's to bring back to California for my MIL. Ummmmm they never made it to her! Now I am on the hunt for anything comparable! This is the best thing about Clarkdale AZ!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a wonderful place-- specialty sandwich es, beyond beautiful pastries and baked goods, coffees and other tempting culinary items. All made by an accomplished chef and a lot of love

Yelp
Violettes has made some updates, new menu, desserts, and days/hours!!! You can now walk inside the caboose to order on their new menu which is à la cart, something new every day! Open now Wednesday thur Saturday from 8am-2pm. Loved my choices for a late breakfast, sweet and savory!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by Sunday before kayaking. Avocado Toast with egg/bacon was delicious and my husband had the croissant club. Enjoyed our almond milk latte with hazelnut and vanilla. The butterfly lemonade was good. To top it off, we shared a fruit creme crepe. Nice sunny, breezy day. Chef and owner was very nice. So glad we stopped by. Gotta stop by.

Yelp
Best coffee, best pastry! Short hours but that's ok. Pleasant staff. Try the avocado salad, madam croque

Yelp
What is amazing about Violette's is that they serve up some of the best pastries I have ever had anywhere in the world. Whether it's an amazing brioche cinnamon roll, a danish from their rotating selection, pan au chocolat, or some other surprise confection up Amber's sleeve, you will be blown away. If you're in the mood for something savory, they offer up some delicious breakfast and lunch sandwiches and awesome avocado toast. Finally, they serve up some stellar crepes (sweet and savory) and Belgian waffles. I feel so lucky to live in the Verde Valley and be able to pick up some legit European fare so closeby. Who needs to go to Paris, Brussels or Vienna when you can just head on over the Violette's?

Joe S.

Yelp
we saw a review on AZ Highways chanel 10 loved the small pastry shop sorry to see they no longer do waffles but other pastry and coffee are without a question the best in the area.

Teresa D.

Yelp
Pastries were very good. Cute little place with super nice employees. Great find in Clarkdale.

Bill S.

Yelp
Yes. Just yes. Everything was amazing! Friendly faces, delicious pastries and sandwiches, and the BEST iced latte I've ever had! We took ours Togo on our way out of town but there is plenty of seating on a cute little corner. Get there early!
google avatar

Luis D.

Yelp
Excellent french cafe, outstanding food, fresh and delicate. The atmosphere also makes this place very special, it is a caboose located in historic Clarkdale, the tables are around the caboose with beautiful french music.

Tom G.

Yelp
Great food at good price . Seating is limited to outside tables and dogs are welcome.

Samantha D.

Yelp
Looove the food and customer service! They always have a good selection of French bakes and drinks, and the workers are always very happy and chatty. Food always tastes amazing too, and we usually eat outside where there is some chill French music music playing. 10/10 recommend :)
google avatar

Shelly M.

Yelp
After the amazing experience nearby on Main Street Cafe/Diner, I had to try this we'll respected French Bakery in a Caboose. I arrived nearer lunch than breakfast so, my options were minimal for pastries which was what I was seeking from a French Bakery ! They were near out, so I passed. I didn't try any of the menu items, there were options for a breakfast/lunch and the descriptions read inviting! Give it a try, it looked ADORABLE! Yet... go early for bakery goods or, go for food.

Mike W.

Yelp
First time here and we had a great experience, thanks to the service we received. Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and explanation of ordering and food selections. We had a couple sandwiches and a chocolate almond croissant that was soooo good. We definitely recommend this little sandwich and pastry shop.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for a sweet or savory brunch... Or wanna treat yourself to a decadent pastry this is absolutely the place! Flour Sugar Butter Love What more could you really ask for? Treat yourself!
google avatar

Yelp
Quality brunch spot. Hidden gem for sure! Great food & friendly service. I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Still a fan! Arrived before AM opening and watched the line grow. There's a steady stream of loyal patrons, seems everyone enjoys Violettes. Even treats for the dogs! Slow down and take a moment to be In the moment. Relax and savor the buttery goodness in the fresh air. This one you will remember and smile.

Marge21 R.

Yelp
This is a good place to stop for breakfast on your way to jerome. Really cute outdoor patio. The food is really good too. Definitely check it out. just make sure to check their hours first. Also friendly service
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
This place is so cute! And DELICIOUS! You walk up to this cute train car in a parking lot with all this outside seating. The menu is small but they have really perfected their items. Everything we got was so tasty. And this blue matcha latte! Wow! So good and it so rich in antioxidants which has so many health benefits.

Daniel T.

Yelp
No waffles and stuffy French want a-bees with "no menu". They want you to like whatever they choose to cook on any given day. How dare you expect that we would have what you heard about others enjoying here.
google avatar

Edwin W.

Yelp
The big royale Sandwich and nutella crepe. Nice busy little shop that fits with the tempo of the town. Employees are very nice. Enjoyed the food a lot.
google avatar

Andres M.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience. From the owner to her family run business, and the art that they create. This is a one of a kind experience only matched by the natural beauties of the town and the region. Violettes's makes the kind of food, coffee and pastries rarely seen outside it's native region. This lil' restaurant vastly outperforms anything i have experienced in a while. Like they kindly say, "we make this food for the local community, it fuels us all as a community to work together and for one another". Although its a matter of short time before they get discovered, please be kind, patient and respectful when visiting a destination created for a small community.

Yelp
Great food without the astronomical prices. This place is a staple brunch place for my out of town visitors!

Joe B.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting the City of Clarkdale AZ (a quaint little town with beautiful people and big hearts) and we were recommended to eat at Violettes Bakery Cafe. Located at the northwest corner of Main Street and N 9th Street, the Caboose is a wonderful site to see and greet incoming visitors to the cafe. We ordered the Avocado and Croissant sandwich and both were tasty and delicious superb! The matcha tea was hot and a perfect match with the Earl Gray Cake for breakfast. Everything was great and perfect. I salute my fellow veterans (i.e., Jeffrey, Tommy, Bob, Lee, Tom, etc. just to name a few) who I met and had a great time. Because of them, we were able to met Amber - the wonderful chef and owner of the establishment. In summary, my wife and I had a great time eating at Violettes Bakery Cafe. I highly recommend this establishment when visiting and passing-by this beautiful city. You will never regret it!
